Lynsor, Balmorra
I don’t see the point of doing this, but I promised Adele I would give it a try.
I have no idea how to go about this – I guess an introduction would be a good start.
My name is Xanin – well my full name is Xanin Tiras Namara Kintara. Currently, I am on Winter Fete holiday at my family’s home.
Technically, I guess it would be my home now since my father died last year and left it to me, but I don’t really live here.
Before you ask, no my mother does not live here either. She died when I was seven.
I guess I should introduce Adele too. She is my – well some people would call her my nanny I suppose, but she has been more like a surrogate mother.
She has been a good friend and confidant as well. Sometimes she seems to know what I am thinking and feeling better than I do myself.
And that is why she wants me to keep this journal, so that I can get my thoughts down and express what I am feeling.
I feel as if I could write pages and pages about Adele or my parents or just about anything else, but I cannot put my own thoughts in words.
Well I suppose I am doing that now, but not really. I am certainly not expressing my deepest thoughts.
I am not sure if I should.
Later
After some thought, I have decided to really give this a try.
After all, if something were to happen to me, there are certain people I would like to see my view on everything.
I may have lost any chance with the only girl I have ever cared for.
Even worse, I have put the only people I can really consider family in great danger.
How, you might ask? I trusted a stranger far too much.
But I guess it would be best to explain why I came to met the stranger in the first place.
Nearly four years ago, my childhood friend and betrothed – Katha Sagara – ran away from her family here on Balmorra.
She did not intend to leave for so long, but she was caught up with the wrong people and ended up being a prisoner of sorts.
I am digressing though.
Meanwhile back here on Balmorra I never could accept that Katha left of her own accord, and tried to follow every lead I could find.
This led me to accept the help of Tyker, who agreed to locate Katha and bring her home for a small payment.
He located Katha rather quickly, and before I knew it she was back here on Balmorra.
Sounds like a good thing, right?
Wrong.
Tyker had taken Katha forcefully from Coruscant and I soon found out that he had no intention of letting Katha go without compensation.
Tyker found out Katha’s father was a rather wealthy factory owner and wanted some of the land on in exchange for Katha’s safe return.
Luckily, I had friends among the staff Tyker had hired and my friend Zevon and I were able to secretly allow Katha to escape.
Unfortunately for me, Tyker had made sure Katha thought I was the one trying to make money by using her.
I am thankful of course that Katha was able to escape safely, but Oridin (one of the friends we had on Tyker’s staff) lost Katha when
she suggested they met up with some smuggler friends she knew of in Etna.
That was nearly a year ago, and Zevon has not been able to pick up any more information other than she is alive and not on Balmorra.
I wish that I could just speak to her and tell her what happened, and that I’m sorry.
At the same time though, perhaps it would be best if she stays hidden.
As for the family I put in danger:
After my father died, Katha’s parents seemed determined to make sure I finished my studies and Mr. Sagara took me on as a business apprentice.
I think they were worried I might leave Balmorra like Katha.
There was a point after Katha disappeared that they thought she had snuck on a transport to Epona to visit me.
I think part of them wanted to believe that keeping me around would be like some sort of beacon to guide Katha home.
Sometime after I met Tyker they began insisting that I come live with them and not be cooped up in my father’s house alone.
At first, I argued that Adele was good company and I did not want to intrude.
But after finding Katha and her escape from Tyker, part of me wanted to be close to anything that reminded me of her,
so I agreed to go live with the Sagaras.
That has been my year in summary: One dead father, one lost love, and one dangerous enemy.
I am returning to the Sagaras' home when Winter Fete is over in a couple of days.
Sometime before then Zevon is supposed to contact me with any new information about Katha or Tyker.
I cannot stand to write anymore right now, so I am going to bed.

Sagara Residence
Lynsor, Balmorra
So, it is back to the normal routine today.
- wake up early for meditation
- read the morning news with some tea
- check in with Colin in security
- breakfast with Mr. Sagara and Lady Sagara
- off to do whatever Mr. Sagara wants me to do today
- short afternoon break
- back to work
- dinner with Mr. Sagara and Lady Sagara (usually rather late)
- work on my correspondence courses until I go to bed
I used to hate these kinds of days, but now I find them so much easier to deal with. Sure, I was grateful to have a week off
from work, but I was more than ready to return to my normal routine.
I spent the rest of the holiday enduring Adele's motherly affection. I tried for her sake to enjoy myself as much as I could.
Gods help her; she does try so hard to make me happy. She sent me back to the Sagaras with a box full of sweets and other food.
You would think Lady Sagara lets me starve seeing all the food Adele put in there. I knew I'd never eat it all before it spoiled so I
offered about half the box to the girl who brings me fresh towels – Tala I think her name is – to share with her friends. I don't think
I've ever seen someone turn so red before, but she seemed appreciative anyway.
I had better get moving or it will have been pointless to wake up early.
Later - Afternoon Break
Mr. Sagara has put me in charge of overseeing inventory for the technologies division. This is a great responsibility, because the outcome
of the inventory will determine what funds we receive from the Balmorran government in the coming year. Mr. Sagara also wants me to
accompany him to Sobrik next week. He is looking to acquire a holobook making company there.
I don't think I could ever thank the Sagaras for all they have done for me in the past year.
It makes me regret all the more the danger I may have placed them in.
I better return to work. I need to finish quickly today if I'm going to have time to begin writing the paper I have due later this week in my history course.

Thanks for reading
Myriad_Daydreams
. I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Betrayal From the Past
is posted here, though you'll see a completely different side of Xanin in it than here.
I plan on completely redoing that story and finishing it's sequel (more like starting it) soon. The first entry of this diary basically gives a brief outline of how the revised version of Betrayal will go.
I hope to post more in the upcoming week

Sagara Residence
Lynsor, Balmorra
Work was fairly slow today.
I finished early and spent most of the afternoon in Mr. Sagara’s study researching my history paper.
41:1:6
Sagara Residence
Lynsor, Balmorra
Turned in my history paper today. I stayed up rather late last night reviewing and revising it.
I am feeling fairly good about the result though. I think I will get at least a satisfactory grade on it.
41:1:10
On Route to Sobrik, Balmorra
A huge winter storm blew in three nights ago. Of course it was only rain, wind and thunder, no snow like on Epona.
The wind uprooted a couple of Lady Sagara's Eponian trees and the rain battered a lot of the plants. Some of the more
delicate plants may be too battered to bloom come spring, but I'm sure Mr. Sagara will probably see to it that there
are replacements.
Thankfully it let up early this morning before Mr. Sagara and I had to leave for Sobrik.
I really hate traveling in bad weather.
Since Sobrik is so far from Lynsor and Mr. Sagara has several things to attend to, we'll be staying there two nights there.
I hope that I will have a chance to browse around the holobook sellers and Musician's Quarter. Adele brought out some old music
recordings my mother used to listen to, and I have taken a liking to the traditional instruments played in them. I want to see
if there have been any new groups bringing back that kind of sound. If not at least I should be able to find some old recordings
to add to my collection.
Later
Hotel
Sobrik, Balmorra
My room here is huge! There is even a little kitchen; not that I know how to use it very well.
On the way here, Mr. Sagara noticed me putting my last entry into my datapad and confided that he keeps a journal of all the new places
and people he comes across in his travels. He asked me if there was anything I was planning on doing during our free time in Sobrik,
so I told him about wanting to go to the Musician's Quarter and look for some music recordings. He got an odd smile on his face and
told me that my father had also liked the traditional instruments my mother liked and that my father had first met her when she was
studying music.
"He used to sit and listen to your mother play for hours when they first married," Mr. Sagara said.
I wondered for a moment why Adele had never mentioned my father liking the music too, but then I realized she probably hadn't known either,
since she had only come to work for my parents a short time before my mother died.
After we checked into the hotel, I came up to my room to put my bag away and clean up a little for dinner. While I was getting ready,
Zevon sent me a report. He says Tyker continues to stay as quiet as he has been the last couple of months. He also noted there was still
no lead on where Katha went. There was a rumor of someone fitting her description being seen on Epona, but further investigation came up
with nothing else.
I better hurry down to dinner before the Mr. Sagara thinks I got lost.

Sobrik, Balmorra
Yesterday, after spending all day meeting with several holobook makers, Mr. Sagara and I went to the Musician's Quarter.
I bought some recordings I found from a couple of new groups and several older recordings too.
When I finished looking through the recordings, Mr. Sagara said he knew of a place nearby where we could have a drink or two
and hear some local talent.
Though it did not glitter as brightly as the other clubs around it, the Golden Star seemed to be quite popular.
The inside looked far better and seemed to blend old and new trends together.
"I have not been here in a long time," Mr. Sagara commented as we went in. "Your father and I used to come here.
He insisted we visit every time we were in Sobrik."
We found a table where we could see the musicians but not be too close to the dancing area, and Mr. Sagara ordered us Corellian ale.
It was much better tasting than Balmorra's local variety.
We didn't talk much because Mr. Sagara insisted that we leave all business discussion for the next day.
"You have to remember to take the time to relax on occasion Xanin. A person who doesn't ever relax will drive himself mad."
I have to admit the evening was quite relaxing. I managed to just sit and enjoy the music without worrying about anything else for a while.
Of course, I think the ale may have helped somewhat.
Mr. Sagara had a chuckle at my expense when a tipsy woman tried to convince me to buy her another drink.
I could swear I heard him say something about me being just like my father when I managed to ward her off.
We'll be making the trip back to Lynsor in half an hour, so I should go check that I got everything in my bag.
41:1:13
Sagara Residence
Lynsor, Balmorra
The results for my history paper arrived this morning. I surprisingly received top marks.
The professor commented that he found it refreshing to read about something other than more recent time periods.
41:1:17
Sagara Residence
Lynsor, Balmorra
We had a warmer and drier weekend so Mr. Sagara and I got out in the gardens and assessed what needed replacing.
There were not as many of the flowers damaged as Mr. Sagara originally thought, but an additional tree fell to the stress the strong winds caused.
It will take a week or two for the order to make its way from Epona, with all the approvals required to import live plants.

Sagara Residence

I only have a moment to write before I will have to go.
Katha is here.
She has actually come back.
Colin called saying that she was at the gate about 5 minutes ago.
I did not believe that she could really be back and went down to the security room to see for myself. She was really there.
I could not be the first person she saw, so I told Colin to make sure she stayed in the front parlor and had him send someone
to tell Katha's parents.
I came back here to my room to wait for Colin to send someone to tell me that Katha was back.
There is someone at the door now.
Here's hoping --
Later - Early Afternoon
I could tell she was not expecting to see me from the look in her eyes when I walked into the room.
For the past year I have tried to imagine what she might say if we ever saw each other again.
I half expected her to attack me or warn her parents against me, but she stayed silent.
She endured her mother's inspection serenely, but seemed to be grateful when I suggested that she might want to be
able to rest from her journey. I was surprised when Mr. Sagara agreed and suggested I help Katha take her belongings to her room.
I expected Katha to protest, after all she had carried her own bags into the house and the last person she probably wanted to be
alone with was me. Yet, she did not protest.
Katha's room was in the wing on the opposite end of the house from my own, but I knew pretty well how to get there.
After opening the door I hesitated, not sure if I should go in without permission. I decided there was no polite way to put
Katha's bag down without going inside, so I stepped into the room and Katha followed.
I couldn't tell if she noticed my hesitation or not.
I set her bag down in one of the chairs, and stood there awkwardly, not knowing what to say or do.
"The bedroom is through there," I said dumbly, aware that she should know her way around her own room, even if it had been some time
since she had lived here. She nodded without comment and we stood there in silence.
I thought I might as well beat her to the punch.
"Katha, I --" I started, but the words just were not there. "Listen, you and your family are in danger," I blurted out.
I knew instantly it was not what I should have said.
She had heard this all before when Tyker was setting me up. "From who Xanin? Some rival of my father's, a distant cousin? You?" she asked angrily.
"No never me, Katha," I replied, my voice threatening to fail me. Though I was not surprised that she had said it, the words still cut deep.
Something about my reply seemed to make her regret her anger.
"Xanin . . .," she started, but did not say anything else.
I decided it was best for me to wait and try to talk to her again once she was better settled.
"I'll let you get some rest. We can talk later," I said, leaving the room rather quickly.
Needless to say things did not go as I would have liked, and yet a little better than I originally imagined.
Adele will be sure to scold me when I tell her what happened.
There is no going back to fix things though, so I will just have to pray that Katha will give me a chance to regain her trust.
Later - After Dinner
When she came down for dinner, Katha appeared refreshed. She had changed into a silky green dress which complimented her eyes.
She politely let me seat her next to me, but was discreetly attempting to pretend I was not there afterwards.
I tried to act normal but could not help looking over at Katha.
Lady Sagara had personally prepared a special meal to celebrate Katha's return home, and happily watched Katha enjoy the meal.
She was very happy to have Katha back and this helped cut through the tension somewhat.
The conversation attempted to stay light, with Katha's long absence avoided entirely.
Lady Sagara explained to Katha briefly that her sister Corinna, who had married after Katha left, was tied up at her own home
entertaining guests of her husband. Mr. Sagara was quick to move the topic on to something else, and we soon focused on broader topics,
such as what Sagara Industries was up to.
I must admit I was flattered more than once by Mr. Sagara's kind words regarding my assistance in remodeling the estate and
running Sagara Industries. Katha seemed to take everything in stride, though I noticed a hint of surprise when she found out how
involved I was in her father's company. After we finished dinner, Lady Sagara noted how nice it was outside and suggested that Katha
and I take a stroll. When Katha attempted to decline, saying she didn't want to impose on my time, I found myself insisting that it was no problem.
She finally accepted though reluctantly.
It was quickly growing dark outside, but lanterns kept the garden path bright enough to walk. Katha walked next to me, making no attempt
to start a conversation. I was hesitant to start one myself.
We stopped at the end of one of the paths that looked out on the water. I was deep in thought watching Katha as she gazed out at the sea,
when she suddenly turned and looked at me. It took me a few moments to realize she was looking at me because I had spoken.
In my thoughts I had been apologizing to her and inadvertently said "I'm sorry" out loud.
"What do you mean?" she asked.
"I know you did not want to come out here with me, but I was hoping we could talk." It was the truth at least, even if it wasn't what
I had meant by saying sorry.
She leaned against the partition wall waiting for me to continue.
"I know you are angry with me and that you have been told that I was planning to use you to get the land you would inherit from your father,"
I said. "I swear that was never true. I only wanted to find you and see for myself that you were alive and well."
"Then why did you kidnap me?" Katha asked. Her voice was quite even with no indication of what she thought.
"I thought you were being forced to work for the Empire. I did not realize you were working undercover," I replied.
I knew what she would ask next so I continued. "Once we reached Balmorra, the man I had hired to help find you demanded a higher price.
He had discovered somehow that you would inherit even more valuable land than what I had offered him and would not let you go until he had it.
He threatened to kill you if I did not cooperate."
She stayed silent. Unable to tell whether she believed me or not I went on, "I could not let him hurt you, but I knew giving in to his demands
would not help either of us. While I pretended to go along with his plot, I planned your escape. The men who helped you were supposed
to keep track of you so that I could find you and explain everything."
She looked at me. "I should have known it was you who helped me escape. I convinced Oridin and Perin to take me to Etna and lost them from there," she explained.
After a moment she added, "Oridin did not tell me you helped."
"I should have come to rescue you myself. I was a coward," I said. "I hope you will forgive me."
"Xanin, I already have, but you must understand I cannot just forget. I need to know that I can trust you," she replied.
With those words she gave me the chance I had been hoping for.

Nothing I tell Adele will convince her I’m not trying to avoid Katha.
I’ve told her a dozen times I just want to let Katha and her parent’s have some time together without me interfering.
Adele insists there’s more to it.
I think Mr. Sagara has noticed I keep slipping away when Katha is around though, because he wants to meet with me this afternoon.
In other news, I don’t think the contacts Zevon has been using are as useful as he and I thought.
They didn’t catch wind of Katha being back on Balmorra until a couple of days after she showed up at her parent’s door.
Zevon and I are hoping Tyker’s contacts were just as slow.
The look on Zevon’s face when I told him Katha was not only on Balmorra but at the Sagara residence was priceless.
Later
Well Mr. Sagara did notice me slipping away. He didn’t ask me about it directly though.
He noted that Katha and Lady Sagara seemed to be enjoying themselves the last few days.
He wants to prepare Katha to eventually take over control of Sagara Industries, but doesn’t want to pressure her.
“I wanted to ask for your help in teaching Katha about the business. After all it’s the two of you that will be working together in the end,”
Mr. Sagara said. “We’ll give Katha some time to get settled first of course. I think her mother would kill me if I tried to lay the burden
of the business on Katha this soon.”
Mr. Sagara also mentioned that the family, Adele and I included, will be going to Epona in a little more than a month for the festival of lights.
I am already excited, because I haven’t been to Epona in a couple of years.
I wonder if Katha will be excited to celebrate the festival. Perhaps I’ll manage to ask her sometime between now and then.
