Loved her description of Nik smiling there. He doesn't smile enough, does he?
Well done.

These are experiences a lot of people can relate to!
Airen’s been showing you off to all his coworkers and regaling them with stories. I reminded him of when one of his fellow intelligence officers went on and on about his newborn and your father came home complaining, “I’m happy for him and all, but it’s a baby. All it does is eat, sleep, and poop. How can someone talk so much about that?” Airen told me that you are a far superior baby than the other guy’s, so apparently that lets your father off the hook.

Great observation about how a home changes once there's a baby living there. My hubby felt just like that when our friends started having babies.
Fabulous update!

Not all chemicals are bad. Without chemicals such as hydrogen and oxygen, for example, there would be no way to make water, a vital ingredient in beer.

Jade_eyes
: Thank you
DaenaBenjen
: Nik is very much like his father. He only smiles when there's a really good reason to do so.
VaderLVR
: It's always nice to hear that my writing is easy to relate to, thank you.
Blue_Milkshake
: Thanks
Padawan
: Haha, glad you liked that bit.

RE: A Mother's Journal--Diary Challenge (AU Fels, Skywalkers, Solos)--Updated 10/27
Sorry it's short. My time writing this family has been focused on my Nano project for the last eleven days...
Entry #21
We had our first family vacation together. Airen had to go to Intelligence Headquarters on Denon for meetings that stretched out over three days, but we swung it so that we could spend five days on planet. While there we got to see your Uncle Nik again, as well as your Great Aunt Wyn and Great Uncle Wes. Not only was the trip exciting because it was our first family vacation, but it’s the first time in nearly a year I’ve been able to fly without getting sick. I know you probably don’t care about that very much, but it makes me very happy.
The only bad part about the trip was Airen found out he has to leave in two days for a weeklong mission of sorts. He knew he would have to leave you, if only for a short time, but he was trying to put it off as long as he could.
I’ve never been so selfishly grateful to have a maternity leave in my life. I know it’s my duty to go out into the galaxy in order to help guard peace as a Jedi, but it’s going to be so much harder now.
But back to the vacation, because my still slightly erratic hormones need to focus on good things.
The unfortunate difference between Ossus and Denon is that the local times are nearly opposite of each other. You were finally able to (mostly) sleep through the night, and we take you to a place that completely throws a hydrospanner in your schedule. Your father and I are so very sorry. Seriously, we are since all our friends and family got to see you when you were all asleep and cute during the day, and we got to stay up with you during the night. As did whoever drew the unlucky lot of staying in the rooms on either side of us. Airen and I considered sending them room service at our expense.
Next time we’re able to take a vacation, I promise we’ll do a better job of working around your sleep schedule. While it would be great to say we’d be doing that out of love and kindness, it’s more so that your father and I can keep our sanity.

You know what they say, "Insanity is hereditary. Parents get it from their children."
And so, the reality of parenthood presents itself. It's so hard to leave them to go back to work. After my third, we just all decided it wasn't worth it. It's hard work, and the most challenging thing I've done, but I'm glad to have been home for my youngest, and the older ones reaped the benefits, too. Of course, it depends on personalities, but even when you love your occupation, it still is one of the most difficult decisions to have to make....

Live and learn...Vacations are a whole lot more enjoyable when they're restful, aren't they?

Nah... chocolate works so much better.

Jade_eyes
: Thank you
VaderLVR
: Oh the things you have to experience before you learn them first hand...
dm1
: A friend of mine is having a really hard time with that right now. I feel really bad for her, but it helps in giving me material and a good understanding of the situation.
Blue_Milkshake
: Yes, yes they are.
DaenaBenjen
: Chocolate would certainly work with me.
The next post will be up as soon as I get it edited.

Entry #22
It’s been a difficult last couple of weeks for our family. First, your father left for his mission. Thankfully all went well for him while he was gone, and you and I mostly managed to get by while he was away for six days. But he got home just in time for Dad to call and tell us that your Great-Grandpa Soontir passed away. We all trekked out to Corellia for the funeral where you caught your first illness. It was just a little cough, but it was enough for your father and I to go a little crazy.
Like I said, not a fun couple of weeks.
The good news you’re all better. I’m glad someone is in the family. Grandpa’s death was unexpected. Yes he was ninety-eight years old, but all signs showed a healthy man. Dad took things really hard, as he always does when he loses someone close to him.
Even though the funeral was held on Corellia, Grandpa received a traditional Chiss funeral. In their culture, the body is cremated and the ashes are compressed into an artificial diamond which is then laid to rest among other diamonds from your family line in the glaciers on Csilla. Grandma decided when she was sick that while it was nice to spend the latter part of her life back in living near the Core, she wanted to be buried in the Unknown Regions next to my late aunt and uncle that I never got the chance to meet. And Grandpa had spent enough time separated from his wife—eighteen years now—and told Dad in his will that he wanted to receive the same burial treatment as Grandma Syal.
Part of me is sad to no longer have any living grandparents, but I’m glad at least one of them got to meet you. Grandpa ‘Tir was head over heels for you. It had been a long time since I saw him smile as big, which for him would still be considered small compared to others, as he did when he first met you. He was the third member of the family to hold you the day you were born, after your father and I.
When you are older, I’m sure everyone in the family will be happy to share their tales and stories about Grandpa Soontir. I just selfishly hoped that you would grow up to have some stories of your own.
Adding to the stress: this is my last week of maternity leave. I really don’t want to go back to work. I never pictured myself as a stay at home mom, but now I’m mulling over the idea. I love being part of the Jedi Order, but I also love getting to spend time with you. Maybe I can talk to Uncle Jacen and see if I can work out a system where I can work from home a couple days of the week, but knowing how much interaction I have to do with padawans and masters, that idea is unlikely. Besides, I know Mom is very excited to get her hands on you every day during the work week. And who knows, spending time with your grandfather just may be the therapy he needs in dealing with the loss of his father.

It's always sad to see one generation passing away, even as you feel joy in the new generation being born.
A lovely update.
