Entry #12

Only one hundred days till my due date. It seems so far away, but I know it will go by so quickly. And, if you can, if you're going to come late, can you not wait too long?

The family got back from the trip to Csilla a few days ago. They tried to make it sound boring and give me all sorts of reasons of why I wouldn't want to come, but they weren't successful. I know they were looking out for the two of us, but it's still frustrating to feel locked up here on Ossus.

Your father's mission went well, but what happened on the way home is another story. Airen isn't the most peaceful sleeper in the universe. Most of the time it's just restricted to tossing and turning a number of times during the night. I guess on the shuttle ride home, he was trying to get some sleep but got a little too restless for the bunk. He ended rolling out, falling the nearly two meters to the floor earning himself a concussion and a nasty gash across the forehead. Thankfully, they were only about an hour away from being home when it happened.

Very few things in life scare me, but getting a comm from one of Airen's supervisors who has that look on his face is certainly on the list. He filled me in on what happened and let me know which medical center they would be taking him to as soon as the shuttle landed. Knowing better than to drive myself over, I had one of the new Jedi knights take me over. I wanted someone young to take me because they wouldn't ask a million questions of someone ranked higher than them.

Once I finally got to him, he told me as soon as I entered the room, "I'm sorry, but you don't need to beat me up over it. Already took care of that for you." I know he was just trying to make me relax, but it didn't work. We sat in mostly silence for the next couple of hours as the medics ran tests to make sure his head injury wasn't too serious, but they decided to keep him overnight just to make sure everything was okay. Airen told me to go home, but I've started having trouble sleeping enough that it didn't matter if I did it at home or in his room at the medcenter. And it was a possible way I could make him feel guilty for scaring me.

Since he was at the same place you're going to be born (if everything goes as planned), he decided we should give it a test run: see what food is good, which nurses are good, and find any escape routes that would be needed if the family gets too overbearing. It wasn't until then that I was finally able to relax, and for my current emotional state, that meant to start crying. Airen asked me what was wrong, which may have been a dangerous move to make. I unloaded on him: he got to go away on missions, I didn't get to go to Csilla, Uncle Jacen wasn't assigning me missions, he was hurt, and the diner messed up my lunch order today. I then explained that the last one shouldn't rank with the others, but I really wanted my sandwich a certain way that I'd be craving all morning, and they messed it up. Without saying a word, he simply opened his arms and invited me to join him. I have no idea how the three of us fit into that tiny thing, but even more, I have no idea how your father puts up with me.

That last paragraph really had me going there. It's really a mess of emotions, isn't it? Loved the idea of checking out escape routes if the family gets overbearing!

Great updates! Sorry I missed the last one.

I have great news...I'm 16 weeks pregnant! Things have been going well and we are both healthy. I can't wait until the heartburn ends, though. Acid reflux is evil. skull

What does he tell me this afternoon? Nik needs to go for some totally made up reason. I told my father that today was not the day to lie to me and that if there was a real reason as to why I'm not on the invite list anymore then he'd better fess up. He actually looked a little scared. I don't think he was frightened of me, probably more like he was having flashbacks of when Mom was pregnant. It almost made me feel sorry for him.

The mental image of Jag scared was so laugh !

Airen is never going to be able to live down sustaining a concussion by falling out of his bunk. Poor guy.

I loved the last bit about "relaxing." That kind of relaxing is just beginning to kick in for me. A couple of days ago I watched this YouTube video called "Free Hugs" and about 15 seconds into it I was crying my eyes out. cry What a mess...

Catching up: I remember those days - terrible, emotional rollercoasters which are the epitomy of Eve's punishment for her hand in the Garden Fiasco. Pain in childbearing? Ha! Trying losing your mind. You forget little words like "chair" and "piano." You can't do what you want, switch between can't eat enough and can't eat at all and all you want to do is sleep, though you are completely unable to do so comfortably.

I do not miss pregnancy. beatup

My poor sister-in-law, nearing her second trimester, recently threw a party and completely forgot to bake the cake. Just spaced it. *shakes head* You never get those brain cells back, I swear.

Great update, my dear! You seem to have perfectly captured the wonderful/terrible state of affairs!!

Entry #13

I had my first party for you a few days ago. It was mostly family and close friends, all still trying to find out if you’re a boy or a girl. Mom was responsible for putting everything together, and seeing her in Grandma Mode has been quite interesting. Honestly, I think it’s scaring my brothers (and me, a little) to see her all excited and nearly giddy over a baby. She loves kids, obviously, but she usually reserves this level of joy for things like new X-wing models. Dad told me she would’ve been this happy when my brothers and I were on the way if he had been responsible for the childbirth portion of the process.

It was a nice and quiet affair; the kind of parties my family likes but doesn’t always get to have. We have plenty of new things to put in your room now, which is almost finished. Dad and Mom helped bring everything back to our place and somewhat unload. Mom made me sit in the new glider and tell everyone where things go while my parents and husband did all the heavy lifting. I gave a smug smile that said “I could get used to this” to Airen during the process; he rolled his eyes. But before some things were put in their place in anticipation of your arrival, your father had to inspect them. He had to read the datapads containing stories for you, and even practiced saying some of them out loud. He had to feel all the blankets and clothes to make sure they wouldn’t be too rough on your skin. (For the record, I made the point that they were made for babies, and who in their right mind would use uncomfortable material for those kinds of products. He ignored me.) Dad gave him lessons on the little machine that takes care of diaper disposal. Airen was a little sad to find out that the thing doesn’t also change the diapers for you, but only takes care of them once they’ve been used. It was an amusing process to say the least.

Dad took us out for dinner, and then the four of us went our separate ways: Mom and Dad back to their home, Airen to work to lead a training session, and I went back home. I went back into your room, turned on the lights, and saw everything in a whole new way. The little outfits were no longer just cute and tiny, but their small size screamed at me how small you would be. I took one and laid it across my arm to get a feel for your size, and immediately put the garment back. I saw all the pieces of furniture and contraptions not as things that would help us and make you more comfortable, but instead could only notice the boldly printed safety warnings on them all.

Airen came home a little later to find me standing in the center of the room with my eyes darting from one item to another. He cautiously asked what I was doing, and I responded with a litany of worst-case scenarios: what if the baby levitates itself using the Force up over the rail of the crib, but runs out of energy and drops to the floor or what if I get distracted and put the baby in the diaper disposal, leaving the dirty diaper on the changing table, etc. He looked down at the floor, put his hands in his pockets, grimaced and told me about the dream he had the night before where you didn’t like the way your father changed your diaper, so you pulled one of his sniper rifles off the wall and aimed it at your father’s head.

You have strange parents. I’m really sorry.

After swapping a few more worst-case scenarios, we agreed to worry about it some other time because we were both too tired to stress over things that won’t be happening for a little while longer.

My last pregnancy was awful; nausea all day and all night for the first half or so, and I couldn't eat much of anything. Then she started kicking all day and night, I couldn't get comfortable, so I "slept" in the rocker/recliner in what was going to be her room, maybe I got 2 hours of sleep. Still, I was thankful, the alternative to all that activity is very unpleasant. I know that one, too...

I was never so grateful, though, as when she finally made her appearance. I just felt so much better after she was out!

Wait. Did I just put into writing that I was willing to have at least three kids? Note to self: Add another three levels of security to this datapad so Airen can’t read that.

That just made me laugh so hard... laugh

I could have sworn I'd replied to this. doh! I just love the description of Jaina as giddy as she usually is for new X-wing models (beautifully characteristic touch grin ), and Airen's almost ridiculously cute in Daddy mode. love

Airen came home a little later to find me standing in the center of the room with my eyes darting from one item to another. That slays me. Airen's dream sounds like a very plausible one for an expectant parent. tongue Ah, well, every child born of the Skywalker line has had strange parents (save for possibly Anakin himself), and they all managed just fine. So will this one. tongue

Doing some replies now and hopefully an update tonight before I head out on vacation...

Jag4Me: Thank you very much. And I'm sure Grandma Jaina and Grandpa Jag are just as excited about the big day as you are.

dm1: Thank you so much for sharing. I'm always honored that people would do that in response to one of my stories. And congratulations on surviving what sounds like a very unfun pregnancy, but I'm sure she's worth it.

VaderLVR: Forget just parents, everyone is strange in their own special way. wink Thanks for reading, and congratulations on the soon-to-arrive grandbaby.

DaenaBenjen42: Thanks for playing catch up and of course you can be added to the PM list.

Padawan: Thank you happy

Gabri: Having someone say (or type) that I write someone in character is my favorite compliment to receive, thank you. And I'm sure Airen would be very happy to hear that he's getting some praise as well.

Jainasolo101: Welcome to the story! Of course you can be added to the PM list. happy

Like I said, I'll try and get an update in tonight so that it'll be done before I head to the beach, and so this diary will remain eligible in the Diary Challenge.

Entry #14

Airen came home today with the remains of some frozen treat down the front of his shirt and a bewildered look on his face. I asked him what happened and he told me that a child threw a temper tantrum in the middle of the public transport he was riding on his way back from a meeting, and not only did the small boy throw a fit, he threw the treat his father had purchased in hopes of placating him in the direction of my husband. If this had happened a year ago, your father would have either been annoyed at the situation or found it funny, but not now.

Now he is terrified that in a few years he will be that father and you will be that child. I told him not to worry about it, but he has it stuck in his head that you will have a terrible temper because you’re a Jedi. I disagreed with him on that despite what happened to my great-grandfather. Airen then countered that even if you were well behaved, you could use the Force to assist you in hurtling frozen sweets at strangers on the public transport. I told him that it was highly unlikely that a well-trained Jedi (which if you want to be a Jedi, that’s what you’ll be) would ever do such a thing, even at that young of an age. My husband then told me to look him in the eye and swear that I’d never even thought about doing something like that. I opened and closed my mouth a few times before asking if he wanted me to start a stain treatment on his shirt.

And, by the way, we’ve narrowed the list of possible names for you to down to four finalists. Hopefully when you read this you won’t wish that we had picked a different name than the one we eventually decide to give to you.

Baby Name List:

  • Dax

  • Rylan

  • Kael

  • Toren
