RE: Memories - Anakin, Tahiri, Jaina, Tenel Ka, Sannah, Nelani, Mara Jade -- Chapter 4-3 03/26/2008
Anakin walked through the town. He stopped at the small foot path that led to the open field where the larger freighters came in to land. He noticed some new construction happening in that direction - a more complete and functional spaceport for the Jedi Temple. Shrugging his shoulders he turned away and headed towards the shopping district. A few more minutes of walking and he had entered the district. The bustle of people around him reminded him of home, of Coruscant.
He grinned and continued walking, happy to be able to lose himself in the flow of beings as they went about their various errands and tasks.
As he walked, he heard a soft voice. "Anakin?"
He turned to find Mara Jade sitting on a bench, working on a datapad, Ben cradled in a sling as usual. Anakin smiled at her, and crossed through the pedestrians to stand in front of her. "Hey, Aunt Mara."
"Do you think you could give me a hand with picking up some odds an ends?"
He quickly nodded his head, before replying, "Sure thing."
She smiled for him, and then stood up, and quickly made her way to the grocery store. He fell into step behind her. Ten minutes later, they stepped back out of the store, with Anakin now carrying a 15 kilogram bag of rice perched on one shoulder and a smaller bag filled with foodstuffs in his other hand. Mara stopped on the sidewalk and smiled at him once again. "Sorry for making you help me with this stuff on your day off."
Anakin gave her his father's famous grin, and said, "I don't mind-it beats unpacking."
Mara laughed and then turned away and started walking towards the apartment building. They got about ten paces, when someone started yelling, "Anakin!"
Anakin turned around and noticed that Mara had as well.
Tahiri was running at them, a bag held tightly in one hand, a wide grin on her face. "It is Anakin!"
She got within five paces of them and then tripped, falling flat on her face. Anakin winced as she landed. She leveraged herself up, kneeling there on the ground and Anakin noticed that her cheek and forehead were abraded from the fall and that tears of pain lined her face.
"I guess I fell down again." she managed.
"It wasn't my fault that time."
Tahiri merely sighed. Then Mara Jade stepped closer to her. "Are you all right?"
Tahiri looked up at her, surprised etched onto her face for a split second and then she quickly nodded her head. "Yeah, I'm all right. It happens every now and then to me."
"Good," Mara replied as she held out her hand to help Tahiri up.
Tahiri looked at it for a moment, as if she was uncertain she should trust the hand, and then grasped it, and allowed herself to be pulled back to her feet. As Tahiri gained her feet, Mara looked to Anakin. "Is she a friend of yours?"
Anakin slowly shook his head. "Nope, just some girl I don't know."
Hurt flashed in her eyes as they darted from Anakin to Mara and then back. "Could it be that Anakin really hates me?"
Mara looked at Anakin, one eyebrow arched. "That wasn't nice, Anakin."
Anakin grinned mischievously. "I do like you, Tahiri. She's one of the people I've met since I've arrived." Anakin focused solely on Tahiri and noticed the brown paper bag clutched in one of her hands. "Eating and running again?"
She shook her head. "No! The baker gave me these canapés. They're not the fresh ones, and he would normally just throw them out."
"The baker is a good man," Anakin began. "Even after all the trouble you caused him, he's still so kind to you."
She frowned at him, her eyes narrowing in anger.
Mara coughed, drawing Anakin's attention away from Tahiri.
"Aren't you going to introduce me, Anakin?" Mara asked.
He quickly blushed, and gestured towards Mara, while saying, "Tahiri, this is my aunt Mara. Jedi Master and the person who is apparently paying my rent."
Mara smirked at him. "No, I'm just not charging you rent. There's a difference."
He nodded his head once, before continuing. "Aunt Mara, this is my friend, Tahiri Veila."
Mara frowned, as if she was trying to remember something. "Tahiri… Veila?"
"Huh?" Anakin stuttered out.
Tahiri bobbed her head once quickly though. "Yeah."
Mara continued as if she had not heard them. "I... how..." Her expression seemed to darken, giving her face a haunted cast to it.
"Aunt Mara? What is it?"
Mara quickly shook her head, her eyes flickering from Anakin to Tahiri. "It's... It's nothing. It couldn't be anything."
Anakin frowned as Mara turned away and resumed walking towards the apartment. Anakin fell into step beside her and Tahiri fell into step beside him as she began a stream-of-consciousness diatribe about the nature of canapés, and how though warm or cool ones do taste good, they are not nearly as good as hot, fresh ones.
For a moment, Anakin wondered if she ever actually breathed.
They arrived at the apartment, and the view out the transparisteel window of the lift was enough to silence her. They reached the top with a small ding sound, and the doors slid open. Tahiri stayed in the lift, her nose pressed against the transparisteel. Anakin paused in the doors, frowning at her. "Hey, come on."
She glanced over her shoulder at him. "But... it's so beautiful. I've never see the town spread out like this."
Anakin sighed. "There're windows in my apartment. I'm about to get out of the way of the doors which means the lift will take you all the way back to the ground floor."
She looked out the window one last time and then darted out of the lift and into the hallway. Her eyes wide as she looked around.
"Stay here," Anakin said. "I'll be right back; I just have to go drop this off in Aunt Mara's apartment."
"Okay," she said happily.
Anakin took the bags he was holding into his aunt's apartment. He quickly went into the kitchen and put the groceries on the counter and then stepped away. He paused and looked into the living room, to find Mara sitting on the couch, staring off into space; the haunted look once more on her face.
"Aunt Mara?"
She blinked hard twice and then looked at him. "Thanks for your help, Anakin."
"Are you okay?" He asked as he had started to get worried over her.
She nodded her head once, quickly. "Yes. Just flickers of the past is all. I... I'll see you later, all right?"
Anakin frowned at that, but nodded his head. "Okay, Aunt Mara."
He walked out of the room, casting once last look behind him, and noticing that she had once more taken on that far away, haunted look. He sighed, wondering what that was about, but as he stepped out into the hallway pushed it from his mind. He opened the door to his apartment and stepped in, Tahiri trailing right behind him.

Hmmm. Wonder what's got Mara all distracted?
Anakin sure likes to tease Tahiri--she seems ultrasensitive about it though

RE: Memories - Anakin, Tahiri, Jaina, Tenel Ka, Sannah, Nelani, Mara Jade -- Chapter 4-4 04/02/08
Anakin closed the door behind Tahiri, and looked down at the pile of boxes still sitting there. He let out a small groan.
"What's wrong?" she asked.
He gestured towards the boxes, and said, "I just have to unpack these things today."
She grinned up at him. "I'll help you!"
Then she turned slightly, and looked down the hallway, towards the bedrooms. Her head tilted to the side slightly. "Who's that?"
Anakin looked that way, and saw Sannah peering around one corner.
"Hey, Sannah." he called out. "Come here, I have someone I want you to meet."
Sannah slowly crept forward, looking as if she might bolt into her room at any second. When she got closer, Anakin gestured towards Tahiri, "Sannah, this is a friend of mine, Tahiri. Tahiri, this is Sannah, someone who's staying with us for a bit."
A wide grin appeared on Tahiri's face. "It's nice to meet you Sannah!"
Anakin grinned at the yellow-eyed girl. "And you can help me unpack too."
Sannah's face grew clouded, but Tahiri started bouncing up and down. "Yes, please help us, Sannah. We can have lots of fun!"
Anakin bent down and picked up a couple of boxes, and started carrying them towards his bedroom. Out of the corner of his eye, he noticed Tahiri and Sannah both pick up a box and follow after him. He pushed open his door and put the boxes he was carrying down on the floor. A few moments later, Tahiri walked in, her eyes wide as she looked around the room.
"So, this is Anakin's room." She quietly said.
Behind her, Sannah came into the room. She was hunched over the box she was carrying and as soon as she got into the room, dropped to the floor alongside the box. She looked up at Anakin. "That was heavy. I'm tired now."
Anakin shook his head slightly. "You only carried that one box."
She lifted her eyes at him, and Anakin sighed. Then he said, "Fine, the two of you start unpacking, and I'll bring the rest of the boxes over."
He walked out of the room and back down the hall to retrieve the next box. As he was returning, he could hear the girls' voices as they talked to one another. He grimaced, wondering just what sort of trouble those two were getting themselves into. As he stepped into the room, he saw the girls sitting on the floor in the middle of the room, each with a canapé in hand and happily chewing. The brown bag that Tahiri had been holding was a few paces away from them, discarded and forgotten.
Anakin sighed and set the boxes down. He then turned around and went to retrieve the remaining ones.
A few hours later, everything was unpacked and Anakin stood in the doorway, looking at his room, nodding his head in approval.
From behind him, he heard Mara Jade speak, "The room looks nice. I brought over a snack if anyone wants it."
Tahiri spun around, grinning happily. "Please!"
Mara turned away and walked down the hall, Tahiri happily skipping after her. Anakin began walking that way, and noticed that Sannah was still standing in the middle of his room, an odd expression on her face.
He turned to face her. "What's wrong Sannah?"
At the sound of his voice, the girl jumped. She focused her attention on Anakin and began shaking her head quickly. "Nothing. I'm just tired. I... I think I'm going to go lay down right now."
Anakin watched her as she slipped past him and padded softly down the hall to her room. She went in and closed the door with a soft snickt sound. For a moment, he watched her closed door, wondering if everything was all right. Then he gave a slow shake of his head and went into the kitchen to find Tahiri and Mara happily chatting.
As he entered, Tahiri grinned up at him, but it quickly faltered. "Where's Sannah?"
Anakin shook his head. "She was tired and went to take a nap."
Mara set a plate of small cakes and a pot of caf on the table. Tahiri's grin reappeared as she looked towards Mara. "Thank you!"
Mara Jade nodded her head and smiled at the girl as she helped herself to some. Anakin took a piece as well, and in between bites, asked Tahiri, "So, did you ever find your missing item?"
Tahiri's head dipped a bit as she slowly shook it. "No, I've not found it yet. But I will, I know it."
"Missing item?" Mara asked.
"Yeah," Anakin replied, while nodding his head. "She lost something. I'm not certain what it is, but she says it's something important to her."
Tahiri quickly nodded her head as well. "Yeah, and Anakin helped me look for it yesterday, so that's why I'm helping him today." She focused on Anakin. "So, was I helpful today?"
Anakin grinned at her. "Yeah, you were helpful."
She smiled happily at him. "Good. I wanted to make sure I was helpful, after all, if I said I would and then I wasn't helpful I would be a liar wouldn't I?"
Before anyone could answer her, she switched subjects and began talking about the stuff that Anakin had in his room. As Tahiri talked, Anakin glanced towards Mara, and noticed that she once more had a slightly haunted look on her face as she occasionally glanced towards Tahiri. As if there was something that she was trying to figure out or remember.
Anakin gave an internal shrug and put it from his mind. After the snack was finished, Tahiri helped clear the table and then glanced at the chrono on the wall. "Oh! I've got to get home."
Mara stepped out from behind the kitchen counter. "Thank you for visiting with us today. Come by anytime."
Tahiri waved and then walked towards the door, Anakin following behind her. She paused at the door and looked down the hallway. "I wanted to tell Sannah goodbye."
Anakin looked down the hall as well, and slowly shook his head. "I guess she's still taking a nap. I'll tell her for you."
"Thanks," she said, grinning at him and then she slipped out the door and into the hallway.
Later that night, Anakin dropped onto his bed, his muscles aching slightly from carrying the boxes around earlier. He sighed and twinned his hands together beneath his head, and stared up at the ceiling. A soft knock drew his attention and he grunted as he slipped off the bed. He went over to the door and opened it, smiling as he saw Jaina standing there.
"So, you made it back," he said.
"Yes," she replied.
"Are you here to give me a massage?"
Confusion flickered on her face for a moment. "No..."
"Ah, well then, good night," he said as he started to close the door.
"Anakin, wait," Jaina responded pushing the door back open.
He tried again. "Bye."
She pushed open the door. "Don't say 'bye.'"
He swung the door close again, this time saying, "See you."
She pushed open the door once more. "And don't say 'see you' either. I need my notes back."
This time it was Anakin's turn to be confused. "Notes?"
"Yes," she responded. "The notes that I let you borrow so you could understand what Master Horn was talking about during class? I need them back because I've got an assignment to finish."
Anakin thought for a moment, trying to remember where he had left those notes. Finally, he remembered. "They're at the academy. I'll give them to you tomorrow."
"Tomorrow is too late. My assignment is due tomorrow."
Anakin rubbed at his face with his hands. "Can we figure this out tomorrow then?"
She frowned at him. "No!"
"What do you want me to do?" he shot back.
"That's what I want you to tell me," she said.
Anakin sighed and started to pace. He stopped and looked at her. "Do you want me to go and get them form the Temple?"
She frowned for a moment, and then dropped her head, slowly shaking it from side to side. Anakin watched that happened and then remembered Kiori's words to him.
"Fine," he said. "I'll go and get them."
Her head snapped up and she grinned at him. "Really?"
He nodded. "Yeah, really. Kiori was on my case about being nice to you, so I guess I had better."
She threw her arms around his neck, wrapping him in a tight hug. "Thanks Anakin," she whispered into his ear.
He nodded his head as she dropped back to the flats of her feet, then walked around her and left the apartment.
In silence, he walked the path towards the Jedi Temple, allowing his feet to lead him on their own. Suddenly he found himself by one of the rivers which run by the Temple, with no real recollection of how found his way there. He frowned as he watched the dark water rush past, the babble of the river an oddly soothing counterpoint to the speed and urgency with which the water flowed.
A half memory flashed through his mind, paddling down a river while rain pelted him from above. He shivered as fear clutched at him. Shaking his head to clear his thoughts, he turned away and hiked up the bank and continued on his way to the Temple.
He arrived and stared at the stone edifice, noting how lonely it looked at night when there was no one there. The clouds parted and a shaft of silver moonlight highlighted the temple, giving it a bluish glow. Anakin shrugged and continued on into the Temple, quickly making his way to his classroom. He retrieved Jaina's notes and then made to leave.
As he walked through the halls, heading towards the exit, he heard a soft shuffle sound. As if someone was trying to move as quietly as possible. He frowned and looked down the hallway to his right, noticing an outline of a person standing by the windows that lined one side of that hall. The deep shadows of the night hid who it was, and Anakin stepped forward.
Then the clouds parted, and a beam of silver moonlight broke into the window, starting at the one nearest him, and moving towards the shadow.
The light reached her, and Anakin inhaled sharply. She was standing tall and straight and was dressed in some type of leather armor which left her arms and legs bare. A belt was strapped around her waist, and a long tooth was attached to it. In one hand, she held an ornate sword. The steel of the sword's blade gleamed in the moonlight and her red hair was braided into a single, long strand which hung down her back.
She turned towards him and her gray eyes flashed in the moonlight as she lifted the sword.

Super update. Wow, Anakin just keeps meeting up with strangers/old friends LOL Mystifed by Sannah's tiredness.
So Mara's distractedness is somehow tied up with Tahiri.
And Tahiri still hasn't found whatever she's looking for.

RE: Memories - Anakin, Tahiri, Jaina, Tenel Ka, Sannah, Nelani, Mara Jade -- Chapter 5-1 04/04/08
A dream...
I'm watching a dream.
A dream where I'm waiting for someone.
Sitting on a bench in the midst of a crowd... all by myself. Waiting for someone who I knew wouldn't come.
Waiting for someone who wouldn't come, no matter how long I wait….
No matter how many hours, days, or years...
---------------------------------
Anakin looked down the hallway and saw her. She was tall, thin and had a warrior's physique that was displayed prominently by the red and green leather armor she wore. One hand grasped a long, ornate sword. Her gray eyes flashed as the moonlight passed over her but her face remained impassive and calm. She appeared almost devoid of emotion and feeling, looking more like a marble statue than a real person.
She stared at him with those cold, gray eyes and Anakin could feel his stomach do a flip. He advanced slowly, cautiously.
"I'm Anakin."
She did not respond.
He stopped a few paces away from her, and continued. "We saw each other a few days ago. My sister, Jaina, ran into you."
He frowned for a moment as she still did not respond.
Gesturing towards the sword she held, he said, "So, what are you doing with that? Are you practicing for some sort of play or a pageant?"
She turned her head away from him and looked out the window.
He felt a flicker across his Force awareness and turned around, looking down the hallway from which he had come. It was empty. He frowned, knowing he felt something that way. Then came that flicker again, it almost felt familiar, but still he saw nothing. Clouds covered the moon, plunging the hallway into shadows. Anakin started to turn back towards Tenel Ka, and from the corner of his eye saw movement.
Before he could react, she was rushing past him and had thrust him against the far wall. He slammed into it with a grunt, and then rolled around to see her running down the hallway, the sword held low. She jumped forward, and sliced down at the empty air, landing in a crouch.
Anakin frowned, wondering what was happening. Carefully, he walked towards her. As he neared, he could see that she was breathing heavily, her chest heaving with each inhale and exhale.
"What's happening?" he asked.
She stood up and still did not respond. Anakin noted that she had gotten her breathing back under control. She stood there, with her back to him and then began to walk away. He reached out and grabbed her shoulder.
"What is it? What are you doing here?"
She slowly turned towards him. Her face an impassive mask as she spoke her first words to him, "Go away."
Anakin frowned at her. "Not until you tell me what you're doing here."
She sighed and then speared him with her gaze. " Because I am the one who hunts demons."
-----------------------
Anakin pushed open the door, and called out, "I'm home."
Jaina came walking out from the living room to stand before him. "Welcome back, did you bring my notes home?"
Pulling the datapad out from a pocket, he said, "The spoils of war."
She grinned happily and took it from him, replying, "Thank you!"
Anakin stepped further into the apartment. "You know, the security at the Academy isn't that great. I think I might steal Uncle Luke's desk next time."
She frowned. "I don't want that."
Anakin chuckled. "I think I'll go get a bath now."
He walked to his room, as Jaina went into hers. As he entered, movement caught the corner of his eye and he turned towards it to find himself looking at his reflection in his mirror. He stared at himself for a moment and then said, "What was that?"
Sighing, he stripped and then wrapped a towel around his waist. He then left his room and walked down the hallway to the 'fresher. Without bothering to knock, he opened the door and stepped into the room. A blast of warm, humid air struck him, and he looked down at the tub to find Sannah in it, a mound of bubbles surrounding her. A soapy cloth held in one hand and was raised to her opposite shoulder.
Shock registered on her face, and she stared at Anakin while he stared back.
"Hey... Hey!" He finally managed. Then he lifted his hand to scratch at the back of his head. "Sorry, I wasn't paying attention and didn't notice you in here."
She just continued to stare at him. He frowned for a moment and wondered just what he should do. Before he could figure it out, he realized that he was speaking, "Well, to meet in a place like this, it must be fate." He took a step further into the 'fresher. "So, let's take a bath tog-"
She finally reacted, her scream cut him off in mid sentence and he stepped backwards out of the room quickly, holding up his hands.
"Hey, I was just joking."
A wave of water slammed into him, and he sputtered in shock. Then a bottle of some type of cleanser slammed into his nose. Finally, she pushed past him and darted out into the hall. Anakin rubbed at his nose, glanced around him and then continued on into the 'fresher to take his bath.
Around a half hour later, he stepped out of the bath, and looked to the left to find Sannah standing a short distance down the hallway, a towel wrapped around her chest, her dark brown hair hanging limp against her head and her arms crossed beneath her breasts. Shivers wracked her body as she stood there, staring at Anakin.
"What's wrong? That puzzled face," he said.
"I'm not puzzled! I'm so cold, I could cry."
He shrugged his shoulders. "I guess you were always puzzled like that."
Her lips compressed to a thin line for a moment. "It's not that I'm puzzled, it's that I'm living with someone dangerous like you."
"It would have been just fine for us to bathe together," He replied. "After all, since we live together, something like this has to be okay, right?"
"Like that would hachoo." Her body bent slightly with her sneeze.
"Making up words?"
Anger flickered on her face. "'Like that would happen' and my sneeze just got mixed together."
"It's because you jumped out without drying off." Anakin replied, a knowing smirk on his face.
She stared at him for a moment more and then walked closer and tried to push past him to go into the 'fresher.
He stopped her. "Sannah, can you say 'One who hunts demons' ten times real fast?"
Sannah looked at him, and blinked her eyes a few times. Finally she nodded. "One who hunts demons... One who hunts demons... One who hunts de-"
She stopped suddenly in mid-sentence, a hand flying to cover her mouth. After a moment, she lowered it, and looked up at Anakin again, this time with pain in her eyes. "I bit my tongue."
Anakin laughed and said, "I thought you would."
She pushed him out of the way. "Remember this," she warned and then she stormed into the 'fresher, slamming the door behind her.

RE: Memories - Anakin, Tahiri, Jaina, Tenel Ka, Sannah, Nelani, Mara Jade -- Chapter 5-2 04/07/08
Anakin lay awake in his bed once more. He stared at the ceiling and the odd shaped shadows cast there by the moon. In his mind's eye all he could see was Tenel Ka as she stared at him and calmly told him, "Because I am the one who hunts demons."
He shook his head, tossing it from side to side in an attempt to drive the thoughts from his mind.
No,
he thought.
I won't get it, even if I think about it.
He closed his eyes, ready to force himself to sleep, when he heard a noise: a soft, gentle footstep. His eyes snapped open and he strained to hear. A few seconds later, the sound came again, closer this time.
Then it was followed by a small, nearly silent sneeze.
Anakin closed his eyes and sighed.
He heard another small, silent sneeze, this time coming from the other side of his door. As quietly as possible, Anakin slipped out of bed and pressed himself against the wall by the door. The door slid opened and he was greeted by another small sneeze.
Sannah snuck into his room, creeping stealthily, holding two large clips in her hand. A mischievous smile was painted on her face. As soon as she was fully past Anakin, he stepped out from his hiding place and stood behind her. Then he wrapped his arms around her, causing her to scream. He picked her up and tucked her under one of his arms and walked out of his room and down the hall to hers.
As he entered, he slapped the lights on, and then walked over to her bed. He held her out over it for a moment, and then let her go, dropping her into her bed.
"That's as far as it goes," he said.
She flipped over onto her back fast, anger painted on her face. "What are you doing?"
Anakin closed his eyes and sighed. Opening them again, he said, "You caught a cold. Lie down and get some sleep."
She frowned at him. "That hurt you know. I was thinking of beating you up just now."
"What are you going to do if your cold gets worse?" He said, kneeling down by her beside. He then pulled the covers up on top of her. "I'll play with you once your better. Are you cold?"
Embarrassment flushed her face red. "No, I'm fine."
She settled back against her pillows, watching Anakin as he stood up and walked towards the door.
"Anakin!"
He turned around to look at her. "What?"
"About today, I'll thank you, but..." She paused, her eyes sliding away from his face. "Well....thankhcoo."
Anakin smirked. "Making up words again?"
Anger flashed in her eyes. "'Thank you' and my sneezed just got mixed!"
"Don't sleep with your shoulders uncovered." Anakin replied. He snapped off the light and stepped out of the room. As he closed the door, he glanced in one last time, to find her yellow eyes staring at him, seeming to glow slightly in the dim moonlight coming in through her windows. He finished closing the door and then returned to his room, finally ready to sleep.
The next morning, he quickly dressed and walked down the hall to find Mara and Tahiri sitting across from one another at the kitchen table eating breakfast.
"Good morning," they both chimed as he walked in.
He grunted in response and slid into the seat next to Mara. She calmly stuck a plate in front of him, and he looked down at the plate of eggs, vegetables and nerf sausage. He inhaled deeply, savoring the smell of the food.
"Thanks, Aunt Mara." he mumbled sleepily.
He started eating mechanically, trying to focus his thoughts on what was bothering him. On what seemed out of place.
"More eggs please," Tahiri chimed, holding out her plate. Mara Jade happily served more food to the young, blonde girl.
Anakin looked around. "Where's Jaina?"
"She was up late last night," Mara Jade replied. "Said something about an assignment due for class, and someone keeping her notes from her. I was thinking I'd be nice and let her sleep in a little this morning."
"Ah, and Sannah?"
"She caught a little cold, so I let her sleep in."
Anakin grunted once again, and ate some more of the nerf sausage.
"These vegetables are great." Tahiri said between bites.
"Eat as much as you'd like then, Tahiri." Mara Jade replied happily, spooning another helping onto the girl's plate.
Wait a second,
Anakin thought. Then he blurted out in Tahiri's direction, "Why are you here?"
She looked at him, and blinked twice, confusion evident on her face. "Breakfast?"
Anakin shook his head. "No! What are you doing here?"
The confusion was still on her face. "Eating breakfast?"
"Why aren't you eating breakfast at your own house?"
Before she could respond, Mara answered. "I had to run an errand early this morning, and ran into her on the way back. So I invited her in for breakfast."
Anakin sighed, and shook his head as Mara gathered up her dishes and took them into the kitchen.
Tahiri grinned at Anakin. "Mrs. Mara is a really good cook."
Anakin grinned back, and replied, "If you want something really good, you should try her special jam. These foods are tame in comparison."
Her grin turned into a full fledged smile. "Oh, I can't wait!"
A half hour later, breakfast was completed, and Tahiri stood up from the table, glancing around. "I've got to go now—school is probably starting soon. Thank you for breakfast."
Mara smiled at her. "Come again anytime."
"Sure," she replied.
"Bye, Tahiri," Anakin said around a mouth full of sausage.
"Bye Anakin," she said as she waved at him. Then she bounded out of the apartment.
Mara settled back into her seat, sipping at her cup of caf. She looked up at Anakin, and said, "She sure is energetic."
A shuffling sound came from behind them, and they both looked to find Jaina leaning against the door jamb, her eyes only half-open. "Good morning," she mumbled.
"Good morning," Anakin replied.
"Morning," Mara said. "Are you going to eat breakfast soon?"
"Uh-huh." Then her eyes closed the rest of the way, and a soft snore came from her.
"Hey! Don't sleep!" Anakin exclaimed.
-------------------
Anakin poked Jaina on the nose, causing her to stir slightly. Once she settled down again, he poked her harder.
"Jaina," he said. "Hey, Jaina!"
Her eyes cracked open, and she peered up at him. "Wha?"
"Class is over. Everyone's already left."
Her body snapped upright in her seat as she glanced around the empty room. She winced and said, "I slept through class again?"
"Yup," Anakin replied cheerfully.
Sighing, Jaina gathered her belongings and stood up, to slowly walk from the room. Anakin fell into step beside her. After a bit, he said, "You have practice today?"
She nodded her head. "Yeah, the tournament is coming up soon, so we're kind of busy with that."
They stopped at one of the stairwells, and Anakin glanced off down one of the hallways. "Well, do you best out there."
Jaina gave him a small grin. "I always do little brother."

RE: Memories - Anakin, Tahiri, Jaina, Tenel Ka, Sannah, Nelani, Mara Jade -- Chapter 5-3 04/10/08
Anakin watched as Jaina dashed down the stairs. Once she had disappeared, he turned to walk down the hall. He wandered a bit, until he arrived at the hallway where he had met with Tenel Ka the previous night. As he once more turned down that hall, he saw her standing there, staring out the same window as before. Today she was dressed in the more traditional Jedi robes rather than the leather armor, but her hair was still tied back into a single, long braid.
There she is
, he thought.
He walked up to her and leaned against the glass. "Hey, Tenel Ka."
She did not respond.
"We met about here last night."
She still did not respond.
He frowned for a moment, before continuing. "So, why were you here last night? And what was up with that sword?"
She still did not respond.
She talks less than I do
, he thought to himself as his frown deepened. "Uhm... are you part of a play? Or some club that uses real swords rather than lightsabers? And what is a demon?"
She still did not respond.
He sighed. "Oh come on, give me an answer. You can answer 'yes' or 'no' or anything at all would be okay."
She finally looked away from the window; amusement flashed through her gray eyes as she simply said, "Yes."
Anakin arched an eyebrow at her. "You didn't have to take that so literally."
She just turned back to look out the window, not bothering to respond to him verbally. He sighed again.
A call came from down the hallway, "Tenel Ka! Sorry!"
Anakin turned that way, to see Eryl walking towards them. She stopped a few paces away from them, a shocked expression on her face. She quickly schooled her features. "Huh, oh, uhh, hello, Anakin. Were you having a conversation with Tenel Ka?"
Anakin glanced at Tenel Ka, waiting to see if she would respond. After a few seconds, he realized that she wouldn't so he turned back towards Eryl. "Well, Tenel Ka just confessed to me her undying love."
Eyrl's grin grew even larger. "Oh! A love confession! How sweet." Then she glanced around the hallway. "Though, not the most romantic place to do it at."
Anakin snapped his head back to look at Tenel Ka, noticing that she was just calmly watching Eryl and himself. He sighed, and said to her, "You know that you're supposed to deny it, right? Now she believes me."
Confusion colored Eryl's features.
"It is not a fact." Tenel Ka said.
Anakin sighed. "It's too late now."
"So," Eryl said. "If it wasn't a confession, then what were you talking about?"
Anakin shrugged his shoulders. "Just normal things."
An amazed expression appeared on Eryl's face as she looked away from Anakin and towards Tenel Ka. "You were talking to Tenel Ka about normal things?" She returned her attention to Anakin, a big grin appearing on her face. "So, do you want to eat lunch with us?"
Anakin thought about it for a moment, and then slowly nodded his head.
He fell into step behind Eryl as she led them all through the temple, up to the Grand Audience Chamber and then through a hidden door at the back of the stage until they came to a another stairwell which led to a small alcove overlooking the larger chamber. Anakin looked around, and then leaned over the edge to look down the winding staircase that led up here.
"This must be the highest point inside the Academy."
Eryl nodded her head as she spread out a blanket. After she had smoothed it out, the three of them sat down on it, Eryl and Tenel Ka across from one another with Anakin off to the side. Then Eryl pulled out a couple of bundles tied up in large napkins.
Setting the bundles down, she grinned as she said, "Here we go!"
She deftly untied them, revealing a number of trays of lunch foods. Eryl looked between Anakin and Tenel Ka. "Eating lunch like this makes it taste even better."
Anakin nodded his head, "Yeah. It's kind of like a picnic."
He then picked up the first bite and tossed it into his mouth, chewing happily. He grunted with pleasure as he swallowed.
Eryl glanced at him, her head tilted slightly to one side. "What's wrong?"
"Delicious..." he began, an awed expression appearing on his face. He looked up from the food and directly at Eryl. "So, you made this?"
"Yes..."
Anakin straightened slightly. "Then you pass."
"Pass what?"
"To become my wife."
Eryl giggled at him. "You must not have high standards if this is all that it takes to become your wife."
"No," Anakin replied, shaking his head slightly. "This is delicious, it's even better than my aunt's cooking."
"Thank you," she responded with a slight blush.
Anakin looked away from Eryl's blushing face and noticed that Tenel Ka had been steadily eating while he and Eryl had been talking. As he watched, she picked something else up and popped it into her mouth. Eryl caught Anakin's stare and turned to watch Tenel Ka as well.
With both of them watching her Tenel Ka stopped eating. Her eyebrows came together in a scowl as her eyes flicked back and forth between the two of them.
Anakin looked down at the food again, and then with a grin, asked, "Do you want something?"
Tenel Ka watched him for a moment, and then in a soft voice said, "Tempari."
Anakin calmly grabbed one of the plates and placed a piece of the tempari on it, and then passed it over to her, saying, "Here."
She ate the food and Anakin grinned. Then he grabbed all the trays and pulled them closer to himself.
"What are you doing, Anakin?" Eryl asked.
Anakin ignored her and thought to himself,
I feel like I win when I get her to talk.
He finally looked up at Tenel Ka and said, "If you want something, I'll get it for you. Ask for anything you want."
"Nerf sausage," she replied.
"Yes!" Anakin yelled. Then he looked down at the trays in front of him. "Nerf sausage is one of the big, gray ones."
He picked her plate back up and put some of the sausage on it and then passed it back to her. As she ate it, he asked, "Do you like nerf sausage?"
"I don't hate it," she responded.
"Do you like the nerf? Or the sausage?"
She chewed as she thought for a moment. "Nerf."
Eryl giggled again and then said, "You're definitely a very interesting person, Anakin."
Before long, the food was gone and the three cleaned up their mess. Tenel Ka and Eryl began to walk down the stairs. Then Eryl stopped and turned back to look at him. "If you want, you can eat with us again."
Anakin nodded his head, saying, "Well, you've already seduced me with your cooking."
Then Eryl turned to look at Tenel Ka, who had stopped when Eryl had. "Does it bother you to have him eat with us?"
Tenel Ka slowly turned to look at Eryl. Then she looked up at Anakin. A moment later she returned her attention to Eryl. "Not really."
Eryl clapped her hands happily. "Great! Then I'll cook enough for three from now on."
"I'll look forward to it," he said. The girls once more started down the stairs, and he then called out, "I'll see you later."
Once they had disappeared, Anakin started down the steps and walked back into the Grand Audience Chamber. He looked around for a moment and then walked over to one of the windows. He looked out, and saw a small figure standing in one of the gardens. From his vantage point, he could just make out the shawl she had wrapped around her shoulders.
