Thanks. This was one of the main ideas I had going into the story.

Yeah. I was dropping hints throughout the scene, but I didn't want to say it was Lehon until Bastilla showed up. The next scene there confirms it.

I didn't know about her mentions in KorOR 2 until after I'd planned out the backstory, so part of the AU aspect is that KotOR 2 never happened. More details about what did happen will be in the next chapter.

Chapter 5
Temple of the Ancients, Lehon
"Lady Bastilla, it is an honor," Caedus said. "I came seeking knowledge of battle meditation. I found information that indicated this was the tomb of a master of the technique."

"During my life, I was considered the most skilled user of battle meditation techniques. Much of my skill was inborn, but I will teach you what I can," she told him. Now that his life was not at risk, Caedus took a closer look at Bastilla. Though the Force energy surrounding her blurred her features slightly, he could recognize that she had dark hair streaked with grey. If he had to guess, he would have estimated that she had been in her sixties at the time of her death. "Between my battle meditation skills and the production capabilities of the Star Forge, Darth Revan and I all but destroyed the Jedi and the Republic."

"Star Forge?" Caedus asked. Whatever it is, if it still exists, it might help turn the tide of the war back in our favor.

"It was an ancient factory near this system's star. We recaptured it from Revan's former apprentice and used it to create our empire's fleet."

"When did this happen? The history I know does not mention either you or Revan."

"Of course it doesn't. Do you really think that the Jedi would let history show that they were almost destroyed by two of their own? We defeated them forty years after the death of Exar Kun."

"Almost four thousand years ago," Jacen muttered. "Who was Revan? It sounds like you cared for him a great deal."

"He was my master and my husband," she replied. "We ruled a Sith empire for forty years."

If he was able to convince her to turn away from the Jedi, perhaps Tenel Ka and I can be together in the end.

"We died after being poisoned by ambitious members of our Sith Order. Revan was able to slow down the poison in his body, but it was too late for me," Bastilla said, a hint of sadness creeping into her voice. "I felt his death after he reached the Star Forge, and a month later, I felt it self-destruct."

"How did you know about things that happened after your death?" Caedus asked.

"I was so closely attuned to Revan that even dead, I felt the disturbance his death created."

That sounds like a Force bond, Caedus thought.

"As for the Star Forge, the power it contained was so substantial that this close, I could tell that it was destroyed."

"That is a shame. From how you described it, it could have been very useful."

"I assume that means that you are in a war against the Jedi," Bastilla commented.

"Not exactly. They are a threat, but the government I have taken control of is in a war that needs to be ended first," Caedus explained.

"When you leave, you may also take HK-47," Bastilla said, gesturing towards the droid. "He has served me well, but I will no longer need his protection once I have passed on my knowledge."

"What are his functions?" Caedus asked. He seems untouched by the four thousand years he has been here.

"Irritated Statement: You could have directed the question to me, meatbag. My primary functions are assassination, sabotage, protection, and translation," the droid answered.

Caedus couldn't help but chuckle at HK-47's irreverence. So unlike C-3PO, and more useful for it.

"I apologize, HK-47. I will not make that mistake again. How have you survived all this time?"

"Explanation: Before his death, my master modified me with Rakata technology. If I had known they would cause me to spend four thousand years standing here with nothing to kill, I would have refused the modifications."

"The first Rakata war droid Revan and I encountered had been active for twenty thousand years," Bastilla explained. "And it was still extremely dangerous. Even before those modifications, HK-47 had killed both Jedi and Sith."

"Thank you, Lady Bastilla. I accept your gift," Jacen decided with a slight bow. A droid capable of killing Jedi? Yes, he will be very useful.

"You are welcome, Darth Caedus. Now I will teach you what I can of battle meditation."

Imperial Capitol, Bastion
"Princess, Captain Solo, Jedi Solo, it’s good to see you again," Gilad Pellaeon greeted as he stood up from pruning a bush in his garden. "Jagged, I see that the information I gave you helped."

"You were the one who helped him find us?" Han blurted. "I suppose I shouldn't be surprised, but I am."

"Yes, he was," Jag answered. "The Empire was the closest part of 'known space,' so it seemed like a good place to start."

"Have you had a chance to consider my offer?" Pellaeon asked.

"As I told you before, admiral, I can’t possibly accept a commission before I ensure that Alema is dead." Taking in the surprised reactions of Han, Leia, and Jaina, Jag decided to explain. "When I talked to Admiral Pellaeon, he offered me a commission in the Imperial Navy."

"Yeah, from what you said, I kind of figured that," Han said. "So, after you take care of Alema will you be accepting it?"

"I haven't decided yet, but I most likely will," Jag replied. "I miss the sense of purpose that being in the military provides."

"I'm glad that you will have something to do once Alema is out of the picture," Jaina said.

Pellaeon set his pruning shears down on a nearby tray and wiped his hands. "I heard about what happened at Kashyyyk. I'm assuming that Luke sent you to talk to me."

"Yes, he did. The Jedi, Hapans, and Wookies have decided that we need to work together to remove Jacen from power so that he can no longer threaten the lives of innocents," Leia told him. "He and Niathal have said that there will be elections once the war is over, so we are trying to keep it from expanding and eventually end it."

"And when they decide not to have elections, we want to be in a position to force the issue," Han said with his typical lack of tact.

"Han," Leia scolded him, though without any real frustration.

"Just calling it the way I see it, princess," Han said, holding out his hands. "With the way Jacen's been acting these past few months, I wouldn't put it past him."

Until about five years ago, I knew him better than anyone. I wouldn't put anything past him at this point, Jaina thought.

"You may be right," Pellaeon replied. "I had no idea things would get this bad when I resigned as Supreme Commander of the Galactic Alliance. For what it's worth, you have my support. The Moff Council is deadlocked right now, but both sides have told us that they're sending delegations to try to convince us to support them."

"So, if the Empire isn't supporting either side, how did Turr Phennir become the commander of the Confederation?" Jaina asked.

"At least one Moff has been providing personnel and materials to the Confederation. I have investigators building a case against him, but we don't have anything conclusive enough yet. Right now, he and three other Moffs are saying that we should side with the Confederation. Four others say that we should support the Alliance, and Moff Saretti thinks that we should stay out of the war."

"Let me guess. Most of the old guard Moffs want to fight back against the Galactic Alliance because it grew out of the Rebellion," Han commented, sarcastically.

"Some of them do. Surprisingly, Moff Flennic switched his position to support the Galactic Alliance," Pellaeon said.

"Flennic?" Leia asked, shocked that Flennic of all people would support the Alliance. He, much like Pellaeon was an older man. He was the only surviving Moff to have been appointed to his position by Palpatine himself.

"You aren't going to like this," Pellaeon said, bracing for a strong reaction from Han. "He approves of the measures the Alliance is taking to restore order."

"Restore order? You've got to be kidding me," Han exploded. "Why haven't you removed him from office?"

"Moff is a lifetime appointment unless a major crime has been committed. As much as I disagree with his positions, he is as stubborn as I am when it comes to staying alive," Pellaeon said. "He has been careful not to give me any excuses to depose him since the end of the Vong War."

"What do you think our chances are?" Leia asked.

"I am sure that Ephin will be receptive to your comments. Flennic will vote against whatever you suggest, and the others are difficult to say. You should be able to persuade several of them, but it may depend on what the delegations from the Alliance and Confederation have to say."

Remember, Caedus already has someone going after Fett, and honestly, at this point I think he considers Fett more of a nuisance than a genuine threat. As for Revan, I don't have any plans involving him now, but I might have Caedus talk to HK-47 about him at some point.

Yeah, I know how busy things can get. I hope you enjoyed spring break.

HK-47 has a decent sized role and probably would have made the Dramatis Personae if I hadn't wanted him to be a surprise.

Chapter 6
Calamari Cruiser Blue Diver, Kuat System
"Lieutenant Syal Antilles, reporting as ordered," Syal said, snapping to attention as the shuttle door hissed shut behind her.

"At ease, Syal," General Tycho Celchu replied with a smile. "I didn’t ask you here as a superior officer."

Syal relaxed, then tensed up again as she thought of why he might have come to see her. "Did something happen to Dad?"

"No Syal, he’s fine. In fact, I talked to him just a couple days ago."

"How is he doing?" Syal asked, relaxing as Tycho led her deeper into the shuttle.

"He, your mother, and your sister are all doing fine. They’ve been helping Booster on the Errant Venture."

I suppose that's as good of a place as any.

"Don’t worry, Winter and I swept the shuttle for bugs."

"Are you sure that you should be telling me that you talked to him?" Syal asked. Dad is still technically considered an enemy of the Alliance even though he resigned from the Corellian Defense Force.

"Trust me, Syal, if you’re going to report me for this conversation, the fact that I got a message from your father will be the least of my problems," Tycho laughed. "I trust you, but if you decide to report me, I’d understand."

Tycho paused for a few seconds, but Syal didn’t say anything.

"I’m going to be leaving," he said.

Syal couldn’t keep the surprise from her face as she sank into a chair. "They’re letting you retire again in the middle of the war?"

"Not retiring," he replied. "Just leaving. This has all happened before, and last time I didn’t make the right decision until my home planet was destroyed. I don’t want to be a part of anyone else having to go through that pain." An uncustomary flash of emotion passed over his usually taciturn features.

"Then why did you come here?" Syal asked. "Why didn’t you go straight to the Errant Venture?"

"You can come with us if you want. I can write up some orders saying that you’re on 'detached duty.'"

Syal considered that for a few seconds. "I was horrified when I heard about what happened at Kashyyyk, but is this the right way to handle it, just running away?"

"I can't give you any details of what I have in mind unless you come with me, but we'll be doing more than just running away. The best way to prevent something like that from happening again is to end the war and force Jacen and Niathal to give up their emergency powers."

"Could you give me a few minutes to decide?" Syal asked, her voice completely drained of emotion after the series of surprises.

"You can sleep on it if you want," Tycho said. "I convinced Admiral Niathal that I should be sent out here to check on the status of the Third Fleet's starfighter forces. I'm going to stay a day or two to make it seem legitimate."

Oyu'baat Tapcaf
Keldabe, Mandalore
Despite having visited the tapcaf the day before, Alema was still surprised by its odor. As opposed to the smell of t'bac that typically permeated such establishments, it had the sharp smell of armor lubricant. Even Alema was wearing mostly black Mandalorian armor, having taken it from a Mandalorian woman she had killed at the spaceport.

While it pressed down uncomfortably on her crippled shoulder, the armor meant that she did not have to use the Force to avoid standing out. Even her limp and amputated lekku didn't make her stand out, as not everyone in the tapcaf was human and many of them showed scars they had likely picked up in one battle or another. A commotion at the Cheg table drew Alema's attention as a dark-skinned man shoulder-tackled his opponent. When she returned her attention to the door and caught sight of the men who had just entered. Here he is again, she thought. Just as we expected.

Fett, unlike the rest of the bar's patrons, did not take his helmet off when he entered. Alema noticed one that, unlike yesterday, he was holding a large metal case in his right arm. He sat at the same table he had the day before, right next to hers. We were right, Alema thought. Now we need to determine the best way to kill him and survive.

After a couple of minutes, a man wearing black and purple armor with a blue tattoo on his neck sat down at the table with Fett. "What do you want me to do, Mandalore?" the man asked, his loud voice cutting through the short distance between their tables.

"I would like you to deliver this case to Han Solo," Fett said, matter of fact.

That caught Alema's attention, but she didn't allow her interest to show on her face. Fett is working with the Solos.

"According to my sources, the Millenium Falcon was last seen on the Braxtant Run, most likely going to Bastion," Fett said.

Our mission is to kill Fett, but killing Han would serve the Balance well, especially if Leia is with him.

"Is it his life day or something?" the other Mandalorian asked with a laugh.

Fett's armor obviously betrayed no emotion, but from what Alema knew of him, his face was most likely similarly expressionless as he answered. "No, Carid. Solo did me a favor a few months ago, and I am returning it. That is all there is to it."

"Whatever you say, Mandalore," Carid replied, taking the case. "What should I do with this if Solo isn't on Bastion?"

"The last known location of the Jedi is on Kashyyyk. Solo will most likely be returning at some point."

We could follow Carid, kill the Solos, then come back and kill Fett. That would serve the Balance between us and Leia while still serving Jacen.

Carid stood up and tossed a credit chip to the bartender before walking out of the tapcaf. After a few seconds, Alema followed him out of the tapcaf.

"Hey, Twi'lek, you forgot to pay for your drink," the bartender yelled at her.

Alema applied pressure with the Force. "Put it on our tab," she said.

"Whatever you say," he gruffly replied.

Alema limped out into the sunlight and saw Carid, case in hand, walking to the landing field. She carefully followed, and after he boarded a battered-looking but clearly well-maintained Conqueror-class assault ship, snuck aboard, using the Force to prevent him from noticing her.

Chapter 7
Star Destroyer Errant Venture, Elshandruu Pica System
Luke carefully used the Force to move a stack of datacards off the spare chair in Booster’s office. As he set them down on the floor, the stack collapsed into a messy pile. Luke started to kneel down to organize them, but was stopped by Booster.

"Don’t bother with them, Luke. I’ve been meaning to have someone take them to Data Storage for a while," Booster said over his cluttered desk. "So, I hear that you’ve been having some legal troubles."

"You could say that," Luke admitted. "Of course, you know a thing or two about ‘legal troubles’ yourself."

"That I do," Booster replied with a smile. "Let me guess. With what happened on Ossus, you want to move your students to the Venture again until this all gets worked out."

"Are you sure you aren't Force sensitive?" Luke joked. "That was the idea."

"Only one problem: it wouldn’t work. As soon as I close up operations, Jacen will find out about it and put two and two together. Remember, he was the one who found me and convinced me to take in your students during the Vong War."

"True. Do you have any other ideas?"

"Boss, this is Janok. The Wild Karrde is inbound and Captain Karrde wants to speak with you as soon as he arrives."

"Thank you, Janok," Booster replied, closing the channel. "I suppose that we had better go meet the annoying barve."

Luke laughed. "That didn't take long."

"What do you mean by that, Luke?" Booster asked.

"He's probably here to get in contact with me," Luke suggested. As he and Booster left the office, Luke pulled out his commlink. "Ben, meet me at docking slot…" He trailed off, not knowing where the Wild Karrde was going to land.

"1127," Booster prompted.

"1127."

"Why, Dad?" Ben asked.

"Talon Karrde is here to see us."

"Grandpa Talon?" Ben asked, the enthusiasm clear in his voice. "I'll be there as soon as I can."

The trip to the docking slot only took a couple minutes, and Luke and Booster got there as the Wild Karrde dropped to the deck. As the boarding ramp lowered, Ben rushed to where Luke and Booster were waiting.

Karrde walked down the ramp and embraced Ben, then shook hands with Luke and Booster. "I'm sorry I couldn't make it to the funeral."

"Mara would have understood, Talon. It's good to see you," Luke said.

Karrde turned back to Ben. "Ben, Shada has your birthday present on the ship. Could you go help her with it?"

Not needing to be asked twice, Ben walked up the ramp into the freighter.

"He's grown a lot since the last time I saw him," Karrde said once Ben had left.

"A little too fast if you ask me," Luke admitted. "With everything that has happened recently, he's had to. So, what did you get him?"

"A portable flight simulator. It's small enough to be moved easily, but fairly realistic. When you have him build his permanent lightsaber, let me know, and I'll get him some crystals to use," Karrde offered.

"Actually, I'm thinking of giving him my father's lightsaber. Mara and I have both used it, so I thought I should pass it down to him when he's ready."

"I'm sure he'll appreciate it. I was hoping to get in contact with you, but I didn't realize that you were here."

Booster smiled at the admission that there was something Karrde hadn't known.

"Oh? What was it you wanted to tell me?" Luke asked, genuinely curious.

"My contacts have told me that Jacen has reached out to the fringe and is offering a reward for any information about the location and status of any Jedi."

"I doubt many smugglers will take him up on that after how he treated the smugglers he captured during the blockade of Corellia," Booster offered. "And he may not be able to follow up on all the information he gets."

"It's still a cause for concern. Thanks for bringing this to my attention, Talon." Luke felt a surge of excitement from Ben through the Force and smiled. "I think Ben likes his present."

Interdiction Destroyer Watchman, Bandomeer System

Tahiri looked in the mirror, still trying to get used to the uniform she was wearing. Her eyes were drawn to the rank insignia identifying her as a Major. Master Skywalker said that wars don't make one great, but he used to recognize that some wars are necessary. After straightening her uniform, Tahiri turned from the mirror and walked out of her quarters.

Though she couldn't tell from the corridor she walked into, Tahiri knew that, like herself, the Watchman was partially Yuuzhan Vong. Its interdiction generators and tractor beams were augmented by a pair of dovin basals, making it more easily able to detain its targets. Still caught up in her thoughts, Tahiri made her way to the interdictor's bridge.

"Good morning, Major Velia," Captain Biron, the Shistavanen commander of the Watchman greeted. "Did you sleep well?"

"Not really," Tahiri admitted. I had a nightmare about Anakin again, but that's not really any of your business. "What's our status?"

"According to the timetable provided by Intelligence, our target should be dropping out of hyperspace in about fifteen minutes," he replied. "Of course, there's no way of knowing how accurate they were until it gets here."

"Remember, we want to take the ship intact," Tahiri ordered. "As soon as their shields start to drop, switch to ion cannons."

"I know my, job, Major," the captain replied, seeming somewhat offended.

"Sorry, just wanted to make sure. I'll be with the boarding party," she replied before walking back off the bridge.

That was a mistake, Tahiri chastised herself. I need to prove myself to them. On the journey from Coruscant to Bandomeer, Tahiri had overheard several officers discussing her position as Jacen's agent. Despite the fact that she had more combat experience than any of them, they had assumed that she had been given the commission because she and Jacen were lovers.

When she reached the boarding compartment, Tahiri saw the soldiers of the special forces company Jacen had put under her command for this mission snap to attention. "At ease," she told them. "According to the captain, we're expecting our target to arrive in approximately ten minutes. You all know your responsibilities, but remember, anyone not in uniform is to be taken alive. I will be leading the way with the 967."

"Are you sure about that, Major? We're going in first, and any casualties we take will probably be during that phase of the mission," Sergeant Duvil, one of the senior members of the 967 squad reminded her.

He wants to keep me alive. The question is whether it's out of fear of Jacen or because he respects me. "Thanks, Duvil, but I can handle myself. I've been involved in ground combat since the Vong War. This isn't ego, I just think that it's where I can do the most good."

Tahiri's sincerity seemed to win over some of the soldiers. "You all know your jobs and I trust you to do them."

Recognizing that as the end of the briefing, the soldiers resumed suiting up and checking their equipment. Making a concession to the fact that she'd be in the first wave, Tahiri put on some light body armor. Duvil offered her a helmet, but she waved it off. "It'll just distract me. Between the Force and my lightsaber, I should be able to avoid blaster shots aimed at me."

"Whatever you say, Major. We don't have the Force to communicate with you though," the thickset sergeant replied.

Phahg, I should have thought of that. "Good point." Tahiri thought for a moment before noticing a comm headset in one of the storage lockers near her. "This should work."

The intercom crackled loudly, breaking through the buzz of activity. "The Confederation ship has arrived in the system. Prepare for boarding operations."

Another great post! I love how you made Ben mature, but still with some childlike characteristics. I can't wait for the next post and thanks for the PM.
