Title: Jagged Fel Strikes Back!
Author: Kick O'Shannessey
Timeframe: LOTF: Fury This story takes place between chapters nine and twelve of Aaron Allston's novel, Fury; Between pages 66 and 105 of the book.
Characters: Jagged Fel, Jaina Solo, Zekk and Sundance Wes
Genre: While I wouldn't consider this a romance story, there is an emotionally powerful scene between Jag and Jaina at the end.
Summary: Jag, Jaina and Zekk attend a party in Coronet while in pursuit of Alama Rar
Disclaimer: Star Wars belongs to Mr. George Lucas. This is just one fan playing in the sandbox that has always brought her immense joy. happy

<Kick Notes> This story was hatched last weekend while Sean had us twently thousand feet in the air, somewhere over Georgia. It's the first of three Fury Jag/Jaina missing moments that I have on the writing board at the moment. I enjoyed writing this so much; and I hope that comes through in these two characters that I dearly love. This story will be two post in length, which is a first for me; I guess I've graduated a step up. laugh

As always a special shout out to my Master; Queen Bbbaaaddd Mamma Tahi, for the Beta, friendship and guidance; all of which I would be lost without. My writing is always so much better after your thoughtful, maticulous eye graces over it. You Rule!

To Jade_Eyes and CanadianJediMama: *pats hand against heart* My Sisters; carry on the fight...Always

To My Sean for being the Jag to my Jaina, and giving me plenty of writing ammunition, the last scene hits home pretty hard. love

A thank you to Mr. Aaron Allston for such an awesome novel, that has quickly become my second favorite Del Rey book; behind Conquest, of course. blush

I'd also like to thank Mr. John Ostrander and the rest of the Legacy writing team at Dark Horse Comics. On the beautiful, slender, elegant shoulders of Princess Marasiah Fel they have restored the hope in Star Wars that was lost in Star by Star. Great Work, Guys!

Dedication: This one is going out solely to the DADDY of ALL Fanfiction..His Royal Wes-Ness...YodaKenobi. Wes, I've always appreciated the kindness you've showed me from the day I joined these boards. You've always answered every question I had graciously and have helped with whatever I asked. Your quidance and help with my writing has been invaluable, and I'm sure I owe you a very nice red pen. laugh And, thanks so much for permission to use your name with the creation of my first original character..Sundance Wes. Your simply the bes' Wes.

"Jagged Fel Strikes Back"

Looking into the mirror Jag decided that his appearance was acceptable for the coming events of the night, but he had never been one for a lot of vanity. His strict upbringing had not allowed that; it wasn’t the Chiss way. Vanity was considered a weakness and a distraction, both of which could get you killed - quickly!

The only times he had received compliments on his remarkable looks had been from his mother. Syal Fel would have never admitted it but Jag had been her favorite, probably because he was named for her father Jagged Antilles. Her expression had always lit up whenever she laid eyes on him, adoration pouring out of them. She would place her hands on his cheeks and rise up on her tiptoes to kiss his brow, and, much to his dismay at the time she really hadn’t cared who saw it.

Jag had long ago decided that she was what he missed the most: she was the greatest cost of his exile. The loss of a promising military career, that would have almost certainly landed him the rank of Supreme Commander of Imperial Forces, didn’t compare to the loss of being able to see his mother’s dazzling smile and face in person, to be able to watch her grow old gracefully.

He spoke with his parents via the hypernet, but it wasn’t the same as being able to sit at the table with them and his sister and have true family time again. Family had always been of the utmost importance to Jag, and he had always wanted one of his own.

His own family.

Willingly or not, that landed his thoughts dead center on Jaina Solo, who along with Zekk was currently under his command on the Alema Rar strike team. He had loved Jaina from the moment she exploded into his life like a supernova during the Yuuzhan Vong War. Through the years he had lost her the way he had lost his mother; he was able to see, hear and talk to her, but somehow completely unable to touch her. At least not yet, he thought. Jagged Fel had never been one to give up on anything. It was that steely determination that had gotten him off Tenupe alive.

He finished combing his hair, which he had taken to wearing longer in recent years. It had grown into dark waves of ringlets in the back and over his ears, the dominant white streak now covering the top of his scar. And there were the first signs of gray coming in ever so slightly around his temples. Jag didn’t mind the gray hair; he considered it a gift - one he wished that his two brothers could have lived to achieve.

He straightened his black silk cape over his shoulders, and secured it directly under his chin with a clip made of gold that was engraved with the symbol of the Empire. His father had given each of his sons one of these, along with a matching ring that Jag now slipped onto his right ring finger. The gold in the clip brought out the jade green in his eyes, and he looked a near replica of Soontir Fel.

The shirt and pants he wore were also black - of Corellian cut and made of the finest materials that the planet had to offer. He had picked them up in the capital city shortly after their arrival, and ordered Jaina and Zekk to also find formal attire for tonight’s mission. He was sure their purchases would cost a small fortune like his own had; the wartime embargo against Corellia had assured that. Wedge Antilles had had to pull a lot of strings just to assure them a false landing code that would assure their anonymity. But, right now cost was unimportant to Jag, for he had a mission to complete tonight - a purpose. And besides, that’s what Jedi expense accounts were for.

Jag sat down on the elaborate bed in his room. It was a luxury compared to the meager existence he had known in recent years, and once again it took him back in his mind to his father’s household. He took out his new black leather boots, and pulled them onto his feet - a perfect fit. They felt great, which they should considering their quality, and they slid right up to his knee, which was his preference.

He then fixed his blaster on his belt and slipped a smaller hold-out blaster under his right pants leg. Nothing like a little backup, he thought as he grabbed his access card, and cutting the lights he headed out into the hallway.

They were staying at one of the finest hotels in Coronet. The hallways were lined with elegant hanging lanterns that suffused the fine carpets and artwork with a soft romantic light.

Jaina’s room was a few doors down from his own, and Zekk’s was two floors below. He had seen to that. He smiled to himself; rank did matter. All he had had to do was smile at the girl working the check-in counter, and she had made sure that he and Jaina received the last two rooms on the same floor. He then had bent so close to her that her knees went weak, and whispered rather seductively into her ear, “Make sure the tall guy is a couple of floors removed.”

She had gasped, “Yes, Colonel Fel.”

Jag had always been ambivalent to his fame and that of his parents. He found it more of a distraction than anything else; but occasionally it had its benefits, as it had with the pretty young redhead at the check-in counter. Of course the disadvantages were the oppressive photographers that he had sometimes wanted to kill, and the gossip columns that had landed him the nickname “The Hunk” among his squad mates; he hadn’t appreciated that one bit.

Suddenly his thoughts were shaken out of the past as he realized with a jolt that he was already at Jaina’s door knocking, willing her to answer; and after a very long moment, she did.

He walked in and then stopped. His eyes had not quite been prepared for the sight before them, of Jaina in a silken gown with silver lights shining down on her beautiful dark hair, which tumbled down her back, unrestrained – like her. The dress was Imperial Red, his favorite color. He doubted that had been an accident. It was floor length, sleeveless and half backless, and the simple crisscross strap in the front wrapped around and fastened on the back of her neck.

Jaina stood looking back at him. She made a slight movement forward, but suddenly seemed to change her mind and put her hands on her hips, shooting him the familiar look of annoyance that had become her custom in recent months.

Maybe tonight would be good for her, for there was no doubt that she needed to get out and relax, and hopefully escape from thinking about Mara’s death, Alema or her power-crazed duplicitous twin. He had spoken to her parents about this before they had left Kashyyyk for their mission here in Coronet. He had told them how concerned he was for her, that if she didn’t lighten up she would become weak, and break or lose her soul as Jacen had. That’s when he had made his final decision to come here tonight and force her into a short change of pace.

All of this went through Jag’s mind as she watched him; but at last he found his voice and heard himself saying, “Goddess.”

Her eyes narrowed as she shot back. “Can it.” Then she appeared to wilt, “What are we doing, Fel? My aunt is dead and we’re supposed to be hunting Alema Rar, and you’ve got us dressed up like politicians out for a Coruscant night. We’re supposed to be working.”

“We are working, Jaina,” Jag replied. “I have a lead…a source if you will, that may have tactical and historical data that will assist us in our hunt for Alema. However, my source is rather wealthy and insists on meeting us at this gathering tonight. Unfortunately, this party is not exactly the kind of gathering where yours and Zekk’s Jedi attire, and my flight suit, would really fit in, and we certainly can’t have that.”

Jaina shot him a you’re-a-dummy look, but finally she nodded and said, “You look nice.” It was a simple compliment, but Jag knew that even that was an effort for her these days.

His eyebrow arched slightly. “Thank you, Jedi Solo.”

She rolled her eyes and turned back around, placing her foot on the chair at the desk so she could hike her dress up above her knee and attach her lightsaber to the red lace garter belt that snugly hugged her thigh.

Jag just stood there; he had no words for the thoughts her actions provoked in his mind. However, it had been a good thing, because her movements drew attention to the fact that the zipper that ran up her half-backed dress was still undone.

He grinned. “Having problems reaching that?” he asked.

“No,” came her quick reply. “I’ll just Force zip it.”

“No need to exert yourself,” he said, and quickly crossed to her and placed his hands on the small of her back where the base of the zipper lay. He could feel her instant tension at his touch, but much to his pleasant surprise he didn’t find himself being Force thrown against a wall, or slapped. As slowly as possible, he zipped the dress all the way up to where it stopped just under her shoulder blades. He inhaled deeply and said, “Aw, you’re wearing my favorite."

“Yes,” she said. “It’s the last of the bottle you gave me all those years ago.”

Jag closed his eyes; he remembered that night well.

He then made a tactical decision to push her just a little further. He whispered in her ear, “Care to engage in some mutual evasive maneuvers for old time’s sake?”

He should have left it with the perfume, because Jaina rapidly twirled around and poked him angrily in the chest. “How many times do I have to say that I’m not interested, Jag? I can’t be, because such things are not meant for me. All I’ve ever done is hurt you anyway, and I can’t stand to do that anymore. It’s not right. Please, it’s not like you lost to another man - it’s just the way it is.”

For his part Jag remained impassive. “And what part of “for old time’s sakes” does any of that conflict with, Jaina?”

Jaina’s expression changed from anger to that of puzzlement and then amusement as she laughed at his words. “Fel, if I didn’t know you were brilliant, I’d swear you were stupid.”

“I’d vote for stupid,” came Zekk’s voice from the door as he strolled into Jaina’s room. “Fel, please tell me that there is going to be food at this party of yours. I’m famished.”

“Does he ever get full?” Jag asked Jaina.

“Non-short people eat more Jag - it’s simple math,” Zekk retorted.

Jag regarded him ever so briefly. “Your insults are the insults of an eight year-old, and now that we’re all here it’s time to leave.” And with that he turned a perfect ninety-degree angle and, in his typical posture and mannerisms, walked towards the door. He passed Zekk and beckoned for them to follow. Jaina was the last one out and hurriedly caught up with them after locking the door to her room.

She was annoyed because their strides were so much longer than hers and the shoes she was wearing didn’t exactly allow for fast walking. As usual her annoyance got the best of her and she lashed out, “Jag, are you sure you’ll know this contact of yours?”

“Oh, yes,” came his typical crisp voice, “I’m sure.”

“Well, find them quick”, she snapped. “We need to leave as soon as possible - it’s not exactly safe to be on Corellia these days, you know.”

“And that’s different from any other time, how?” Jag asked.

Before she could smart off to him, he had reached the lift and hit the access portal. The door slid open and he stepped in, Zekk, and then Jaina, quickly joining him.

In a matter of moments they were on the bottom floor of the hotel and heading towards the ballroom. This must be a high-roller type party, Zekk thought, because they were checking everyone at the door and it was obviously by invite only.

“Uh, Fel the line’s back there,” Zekk smartly pointed out.

Jag, however, continued on past the line and went straight to the door.

The man standing there nodded politely to him. “Colonel Fel, we’ve been expecting you,” he said.

Without breaking his stride Jagged acknowledged him with his own nod and the man opened the door and allowed them to enter without delay

“Wow!” was Zekk’s only response as they entered the room. In his first twenty strides he observed at least ten famous holo-stars and singers, not to mention the children of Corellia’s rich and famous. No wonder Jag entered so easily, he thought. Zekk wondered how such a joyous gathering could take place under Corellia’s current circumstances, but decided not to question a good thing.

Ahead of him he could see that Jag was having some problems moving through the crowd. And the problem he was having was women. Every five steps another one would stop him and shove paper into his hand, Zekk guessed with their comm codes written on them. They were removing somewhat marginal articles of clothing and trying to put them in his hands

Zekk was amazed; he hadn’t seen anything like it since Anakin Solo had come of age. But, unlike Anakin, Jag wasn’t seventeen and completely oblivious to the effect that he had on women. For his part Fel would just smile, graciously shake his head as he stopped their hands before they reached his belt, and doggedly move on.

Finally, Zekk and Jaina caught up with him, and Zekk detected jealousy in her voice as she said, “Gee Jag, I guess you need a fan club.”

“Huh?” Jag asked. Then it dawned on him what she meant. “Oh, that’s just normal for me,” he replied.

Jaina’s eyes slightly widened but she said nothing.

“Even I’m smart enough to stay away from groupies,” he continued. “The last thing I need is a paternity suit. Exiled or not, that would definitely get back to my father.”

Zekk grinned at that. If Fel was anything other than an irritant he was practical; always thinking ahead, always calculating every possible outcome for his every possible action.

The event was a perfect combination of a formal affair and a young people’s party. Fel had been correct that the attire was formal, but there was also loud music that was somewhat less so and was definitely set for people under forty. The band was playing a current top ten hit, and the bar in the corner was packed with people laughing and having entirely too much Corellian ale, which flowed freely from a fountain in the center of the bar.

But suddenly all of this was lost to Zekk’s attention because coming across the room, with her eyes set solely on Jagged Fel, was the bombshell of every sentient male’s dreams. She was tall for a woman - several inches taller than Jaina - and she had blonde hair that rolled in loose waves halfway down her back. Her eyes burned with an amber hue that was rare for humans, and, in her black low cut dress, she could have rivaled the slender loveliness of Mara Jade Skywalker. Her face was as beautiful as any Hapan Queen’s, and overall she looked a lot like the long departed Danni Quee, only more beautiful, and like Jag she was full blooded Corellian. She was the most talented actress and singer on the Coruscant scene. Her contracts were rumored to be in the millions per holofilm or album deal, and she was constantly being pursued by the most powerful men in the galaxy.

“Sundance Wes,” Zekk muttered to himself. Then he grinned. When Valin Horn found out that he had attended a party on Corellia with her in his mere presence, he would turn as green as his father’s X-Wing. Not to mention what Ben Skywalker’s reaction would be.

Zekk couldn’t take his eyes off her. He had met and known the galaxy’s most famous people, but he had never been struck like this before; this young woman had something that he had never quite come across. Zekk, remembering his celebrity lessons, believed her to be around 28 standard years of age.

She and Jag were still walking toward each other, eyes locked together with predatory expressions on their faces. Finally, they stood face to face, silently appraising each other for about three seconds, and then without even so much as muttering a word to him, Sundance grabbed the hair on the back of Jag’s head hard, and crushed his mouth to hers in a kiss filled with the energy of a supernova. It went on for what seemed like an eternity; every head in the room was on them as Sundance’s hands found their way all through Jag’s hair and then continued their odyssey up and down his back, and beyond.

Yes, the dialogue between the three is great, [b]PP/b]. I like the way you write Zekk a lot, as you write him with a lot of empathy. happy It's also get to get both Jag's and Zekk's points of view on what's happening.

Missing scenes are fun, eh? I think it was definitely a good move to post this as two sections; this first bit really provokes some good questions as to what old Jag is up to. happy

Poor old Jag - so many women, so little time. wink Ah, the price of celebrity.

Now will Jaina shoot him, or just strangle him with her bare hands? Dunh-dunh-dunh-dunnnnnnn
