Title: Potential For Disaster
Author: DaenaBenjen42
Genre: AU (very, very AU)
Continuity: this is set a while after Accidentally In Love
Notes: Thank you to Kevin_Solo for the plot bunny, and thank you to Jade_eyes for the encouragement.

Tarma smiled to herself as she stood in the doorway of the living room and watched as her husband and her mother made fools of themselves and made faces for the baby. She hadn't wanted to put them anywhere near each other so soon, but she supposed things worked out for the best. That, or her mother had truly decided to put the issues to rest...

Considering that possibility, Tarma slowly shook her head. No. If she knew her mother, it was only a matter of time.

"Ptarmaia?" her father's inquisitive voice came from behind her in the hallway.

Tarma whipped around and put a finder to her lips. "Shh!"

Lando frowned and looked over her shoulder to see his wife and... son-in-law... acting all cutesey with his grandson. Then he smiled. "Think we should join them?"

"No, father. I think we should go into the kitchen, have some caf, and let them have their moment where mom forgets that she should be glaring at him and trying to kill him with her words."

Lando chuckled at that. "True. Lead on, fair one."

Tarma rolled her eyes and led him to the kitchen. She'd keep an ear and a sense out, just in case.

~*~*~*~

"You still haven't told me why you wouldn't let us help you with names for the baby," Lando said blandly as Tarma handed him a cup. "Aren't grand parents supposed to have a little say in stuff like that?"

Tarma resisted the urge to snort and sat down across from him. "Honestly? I was afraid of naming him something complicated."

"Like what?"

Tarma stared at him as she took a careful sip, then set the cup down. He honestly didn't realize that, to a child, a name like "Ptarmaia" was complicated? "Like Schulyer, for one. And... Danfren?"

Lando took that in calmly. "As opposed to Tate?"

"It's simple. And I always wanted to be named that as a kid. And it was better than Luke's first choice."

"Which was?"

"Ackbar."

Lando blinked, surprised. "As in Admiral Ackbar?"

"The very same." Tarma shrugged. "He liked it, said it was nice and manly, and we agreed to disagree."

"Your mother wanted to name you Roganda, you know. Said it reminded her of someone, even if she wasn't certain who."

Somehow, given what she knew about her mother's past, that one didn't really surprise her. Plus, she'd heard stories from Leia about running into a woman named Roganda. "Really?" The part about a giant ship with a killer computer and a former Jedi along for the ride, though... that one, she'd never really understood.

"Really."

"I must remember to tease her about that later."

"I wouldn't, if I were you."

"Why not?"

"Brings up bad memories and her having to rescue your husband, some very drunk sand people, a former storm trooper, and some Gamorreans... who ended up working for some imperials as stormtroopers and guards." Lando shrugged as she stared at him. "At least, that's the way she told it when she got back."

"Wait... was this the thing where he managed to get himself injured multiple times and there was a ghost that pulled a body switch with a student whose boyfriend was an android?"

"Probably."

"Oh... You're right. Best to leave that one forgotten." Any story where there was evidence that her husband had dated before they'd met, well... she perferred to think that he'd been pretending to be a monk that entire time. And she hated the very thought of Callista with a passion, no matter how much Luke thought she was nice person underneath. Tarma had only ever seen one side of her: the jealous side.

~*~*~*~*~

Out in the living room, Luke looked up with a frown. "Odd."

Mara stopped making silly faces for the baby and looked at him. "What?"

"You didn't happen to pick up Callista on the way here, did you?"

Mara stared at him. "Callista?"

"Usually, when Tarma is that tense, Callista's either around, or someone was talking about her," Luke noted absently.

"Well, we didn't... Luke?"

"Yes?"

"Can we please dote on the baby some more? I didn't come here to fight with you."

Luke smiled. "Absolutely."

"And if anyone asks, I'm going to tell them that I wanted to bite your head off the entire time I was here."

"You always want to bite my head off. Not that there's anything wrong with that. I've come to expect it."

Mara smirked. "Good." As well he should. She'd become his mother-in-law, after all...

The baby cooed and they returned their attention to him like a good father and grandparent.

The End... For Now...

Ooh, a Luke/OC pairing! You're one of my tribe! dancing

This is a very homey and unique look into a Skywalker home life. The idea of Tarma getting jealous about Callista is pretty cute. grin

Thanks for telling me about this, DaenaBenjen42! applause It's nice to know that I was responsible! laugh

First, we see Luke and Mara making 'fools of themselves' and making 'faces for the baby'. laugh I really laughed at the idea of Mara being the grandmother of Luke's child! laugh laugh If only they knew what happened in the original time line! grin

Tarma's right about her mother here:

She hadn't wanted to put them anywhere near each other so soon, but she supposed things worked out for the best. That, or her mother had truly decided to put the issues to rest...

Considering that possibility, Tarma slowly shook her head. No. If she knew her mother, it was only a matter of time.

happy

I liked this father-daughter moment between Lando and Tarma:

"Ptarmaia?" her father's inquisitive voice came from behind her in the hallway.

Tarma whipped around and put a finder to her lips. "Shh!"

Lando frowned and looked over her shoulder to see his wife and... son-in-law... acting all cutesey with his grandson. Then he smiled. "Think we should join them?"

"No, father. I think we should go into the kitchen, have some caf, and let them have their moment where mom forgets that she should be glaring at him and trying to kill him with her words."

Tarma rolled her eyes and led him to the kitchen. She'd keep an ear and a sense out, just in case.

Things could have been worse! raised_brow Her mother could have married Luke.

Another good father-daughter moment about naming the baby:

Tarma resisted the urge to snort and sat down across from him. "Honestly? I was afraid of naming him something complicated."

"Like what?"

Tarma stared at him as she took a careful sip, then set the cup down. He honestly didn't realize that, to a child, a name like "Ptarmaia" was complicated? "Like Schulyer, for one. And... Danfren?"

"Which was?"

"Ackbar."

Lando blinked, surprised. "As in Admiral Ackbar?"

"The very same." Tarma shrugged. "He liked it, said it was nice and manly, and we agreed to disagree."

Well, I think Ackbar's a nice name! peace What made me sit up was the discussion about what Mara thought of calling Tarma. Why in the galaxy's name would she have wanted to call her Roganda, considering what that person did? confused confused I liked Tarma's thoughts on Callista here:

Any story where there was evidence that her husband had dated before they'd met, well... she perferred to think that he'd been pretending to be a monk that entire time. happy Why does she dislike Callista so much? confused I'm very sure Luke has given her no cause to doubt his love for and loyalty to her.

We end with Luke and Mara:

Out in the living room, Luke looked up with a frown. "Odd."

Mara stopped making silly faces for the baby and looked at him. "What?"

"You didn't happen to pick up Callista on the way here, did you?"

Mara stared at him. "Callista?"

Mara smirked. "Good." As well he should. She'd become his mother-in-law, after all...

The baby cooed and they returned their attention to him like a good father and grandparent.

As before, if only they knew what happened... grin

Just one last thing. What is the baby's name? confused

Leiamoody: Thank you! happy And I’m glad you thought it was an interesting look.

Kevin_Solo: Why in the galaxy's name would she have wanted to call her Roganda, considering what that person did?

Lando did say that Mara didn’t quite know what the significance was, just that it reminded her of someone. (And that is all I’m saying on that.) Also... Tarma was born a bit before Mara had to go save Luke’s butt...

Why does she dislike Callista so much? I'm very sure Luke has given her no cause to doubt his love for and loyalty to her.

That… is a loaded question. Can I get back to you on that one?

Just one last thing. What is the baby's name?

Tate. Tarma got the last say. (And I like Ackbar, too!)

Thank you for both the runaway idea that hit me in the file room and the review. happy

This was different. Luke and Mara not being a couple was honestly refreshing.
Tarma...poor girl has a horrible name.

And I loved reading Lando again. There should be more Lando fics on the board, seriously. And I bet Lando and Mara would be great together when romantically involved.

And plus, you brought in Callista! I liked Callista.

Great little story here.
I enjoyed it.
applause
