Fist off, that was very depressing and I need to go read something light. Second, that was amazing. Your writing carries so much emotion with every detail. The first scene had the words that anyone in a hospital waiting room dreads, "There's nothing more we can do." And that only came after we saw Leia in as bad a condition as we have ever seen her. This is understandable considering she is on the verge of losing yet another one of her children, even Han is barely keeping it together.
I think the scene with Luke's quiet contemplation was something that very well could appear in profic. It is so like Luke to pull the blame for everything onto his shoulders, he has done it so often that I think it is habit. Maybe some of it is his fault, such as the whole Sword of the Jedi fiasco. That one moment basically set Jaina up to have a hard life. Would she have put just as much dedication into trying to stop her brother, I think so. However, maybe the part about her never knowing peace took away all the chances she had for happiness. You seemed to capture it all very well with Luke's thoughts.
Ben was perfect in this post. So much like his father, trying to take some of the blame on himself and at the same time offering comfort to others. If Ben actually turns out like his parents after the LotF series, he will end up a great Jedi indeed. I thought that you did a good job with him in this post.
The last little bit with Han was cool as well. I'm glad he is going to go knock some sense into Fel, Jaina needs him now more than ever. I find the condition that Jaina is in perplexing, is she blocked off so she can't feel the pain through the twin bond or is she just so despaired that she can't handle being in her right mind at the moment? It's like her survival depends entirely on herself right now and whether or not she can get past the blocking in her own mind. I really hope Jag can help her find her way back home.
I am really enjoying this fic right now. It has so much raw emotion and sadness, yet there is still hope and that is something that never dies.

Well it's good to know she is at least alive.
And Han is off to get Jag. I can't wait to see what you have planned next.

Loved the update Aleria. The after math is disturbing but perfect. Not, the after math of RotF for sure.
The reference to the Myrkr Strike Team was ver appropriate since thats when all this mess started anyway.
And your doing a fantastic job building the suspense with Jaina.

canadianjedimama posted: Okay, I said it before and I'll say it again, the way that you've captured the absolute emotional desolation that would have to ensue after an event like this is FANTASTIC!
You reduced me to tears a couple of times: for Leia, for Luke, for Jaina, for Han and for Jag.
Simply wonderful... Everytime I read something you send me, it gets so much better. As always, the honour is mine to beta this.
Cyn
Thank you SO much! This is starting to reach the point where I don't know what to say... I'm happy you like betaing this, since I'm getting new ideas...
And thank you for your thoughts on the sketches! I do my best.
jadesabre75 posted: Wow.
Ok, LOL I think I've sufficiently recovered. Awesome job with Leia's feelings. Awesome!!!!! I was getting teary eyed just reading it. I like strong reactions...
Loved the look into Luke's psyche. This is the second Solo child he's sent into danger that might not make it out and then there's Jacen whom he feels so powerless to help and is like a son to him. Loved how Ben is taking care of his father now and the part where Ben came in and sat by Luke...priceless. I think those two are very much alike, especially now that Ben's growing up and not being too much of a stubborn teenager.
I think I said it in my own fic, but how much can one man take, no matter how great or how strong. Han has always been the glue that held his family together and the loss of Jaina may well be the one thing he can't withstand. That's true. Everyone has a limit somewhere. Some losses are too big to comprehend and some reasons for them even more cruel.
Loved it! I'm interested to see what kind of shape Jag is in. Is he going to revert to his stoic Chiss persona or is he going to be a basketcase.
Awesome job!!!! Can't wait for the next part! More Jaggie!
I'm glad you enjoyed it. And the next chapter will have just what you're waiting for... a lot!
JediMaster_Horn posted: GREAT job continuing the intensity that you started with. I'm so very worried for the Solo twins right now.
Thank you! I've just been plotting what will happen to the twins. It will probably be pretty hard on them... But hopefully interesting.
Jaina_and_Jag posted: Finally got to see the drawings. And they were awesome! I really envy people with your talent. I couldn't draw for the life of me. Thank you so much! I'm still kind of trying to find the best style for me. It just takes practice...
Awesome post! But everythings so messed up! Jaina and Jacen's live are both just hanging in the balance. I can only imagine what it must be like on the people that care about them. And Han going to find Jag? That sounds like a fight waiting to happen... But I'm sure Jag has a good reason for not being the first at Jaina's side, right? Right?! If not, I'll beat Han to the punch!
Jaina and Jacen have to go through some stuff right now... And waiting in ignorance can't ever be pleasant, especially to people close to you.
Two full-blooded Corellians with something that intense bothering them... the results can be explosive!
melino posted: I am speachless after reading this new post.....amazing is the only word that comes to mind please keep up the good work!! and thanks for the PM!
You're very welcome. I'm so glad I can get a reaction like that... Thank you! I'll do my best to keep the standard high!
Solo_and_Fel posted: Definitely continued the intensity in this next post. For a moment there, I thought you were going to totally keep us hanging as to whether Jaina was alive or not. Well.. since she technically is, there's still hope!
Thank you. I actually did shortly play with the idea of leaving Jaina's condition stay a mystery for a little while longer, but it would have been a bit too cruel I guess. And of course, while J/J are alive, there's always hope...
I'll be back later with responses to the rest of your thoughts. Thank you so much for reading and giving such amazing reviews!

This is understandable considering she is on the verge of losing yet another one of her children, even Han is barely keeping it together. Thank you so much! Han and Leia can both gather an extraordinary amount of strength even at the worst of times, but even they have a limit somewhere. They've come close with the deaths of Chewbacca and Anakin, but I think this is the situation that could be too much for them to handle on their own.
I think the scene with Luke's quiet contemplation was something that very well could appear in profic. It is so like Luke to pull the blame for everything onto his shoulders, he has done it so often that I think it is habit. Maybe some of it is his fault, such as the whole Sword of the Jedi fiasco. However, maybe the part about her never knowing peace took away all the chances she had for happiness. You seemed to capture it all very well with Luke's thoughts. Luke might be the Grand Master of the New Jedi Order and in his late-sixties, but there still has to be some of that naïve and innocent farmboy in there. And I'm with you in thinking that Jaina certainly would have taken it upon herself to face down Jacen, even if there had been no prophesy. But like you said, she has shut herself off to everything else but her destiny because of it.
Ben was perfect in this post. So much like his father, trying to take some of the blame on himself and at the same time offering comfort to others. If Ben actually turns out like his parents after the LotF series, he will end up a great Jedi indeed. I thought that you did a good job with him in this post. Thank you. That scene was actually the first I wrote of this chapter, it felt somehow natural. Ben certainly has all the makings of becoming an honourable Jedi and a great leader.
Jaina's condition is quite complex and she needs to find something worth fighting for. This part actually inspired me to plan an interlude into the story...
I am really enjoying this fic right now. It has so much raw emotion and sadness, yet there is still hope and that is something that never dies.
I don't know if I can write anything without any hope, it always has to be waiting somewhere. I'm very glad you like this so far.

Geez... What the heck, !!
Poor Jag, I know how hard that can be. You feel like if you are there then the whole thing is far too real. Jaina's family's heartbreak was very realistic. Fantastic job.
Please pm me if you have a list.
Oh, and excellent artwork!

Author's Note:
Okay, I've been having some trouble with a bad writer's block considering this particular story, and now Invincible is scrambling my mind. Hence the long wait for the next chapter. But I have parts of the third post done and hopefully will get the rest written this beggining week, so the gap between chapters wouldn't get insanely long.
As for the illustrations for the 2nd chapter, I have some ideas, but unfortunately creating the actual pictures has also been delayed.
Thank you everyone for reading and I hope you have the will to wait and see this through!

Okay guys. Writing the next chapter has proven to be a lot more difficult than I had supposed. First there was writers block and now DRL is messing me up... But it should get better in the next couple of weeks.
And now... Because it's already been a whole month since the last update, I thought you deserve a treat in the form of something new to read. This was originally supposed to be the first scene of Chapter 3, but it has now been renamed and has a new purpose - Interlude I.
(See the "I" in the name? Yep, there will be others... )
So here you go. I hope you enjoy!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Interlude I
The amazement that a seasoned and talented pilot felt at the sight of a vast fighter hangar filled with diverse vessels was seldom outdone. The thrill of seeing spacecraft lined in orderly rows throughout the hangar would have made everyone with any flight-experience dizzy, and to anyone who knew the slightest bit of recent developments in the business of starship design and manufacturing, to stand in that particular hangar would have been nothing short of a dream.
The space was filled with vessels painted with the MandalMotors logo on their sides. There were a half dozen huge slabs of beskar shaped into something that resembled a tank, Tra’kad assault ships, and a few dozen Bes’uliik fighters that mesmerized every pilot in the galaxy. It was the first time such a number of the widely desired vessels had ever been seen in one place outside Mandalorian space.
But this whole spectacle was just a distant and emotionless observation to Jagged Fel. Out of all the ships around him, there was only one that could catch his attention. Only one he was drawn to.
The matte black surfaced Bes’uliik fighter had a flaming sword painted on its starboard flank. It was no lightsaber but a beskad, a Mandalorian sword. The edge of its hilt shone like a morning star sending up brilliant blue and violet flames that engulfed the blade itself. The sheer power and beauty of the sight could have stopped anyone in their tracks, but the image held deeper meanings to those who knew of the prophesy that had led to this unbearable situation.
Jag circled the fighter, a blank gaze masking his face and his shields reinforced by habit. He was still wearing the same black flightsuit he’d had on during the battle. The very same attire he wore at the moment his universe had collapsed on itself. He couldn’t change what had happened, and moving on wasn’t an option. It just wasn’t.
Letting his green eyes roam the surface of the fighter, the pilot was restlessly trying to find something he could fix, something he could put back together.
Something he knew how to make right again.
But there was nothing left for him to do. The Mandalorians had already executed their maintenance rounds on all the Bes’uliik fighters, including Jaina’s Blade. No doubt it was some kind of weird form of showing appreciation, a way of saying thank you that only a man like Boba Fett could master without gathering contemptuous glances.
Jag let his hand caress the sleek surface of the hull as he rounded his way back to the starboard side of the fighter. He froze by the painted sword and leaned his forehead against the beaming hilt. His eyes squeezing shut, he pulled his fingers into a tight fist. His boiling feelings screamed for release but he’d been so well trained to maintain the cold and emotionless façade that restraining his reactions was instinctive. He had to keep his shell as intact as it still could be, he had to stay in control. He couldn’t lose focus and crumble down. It wasn’t acceptable.
He needed to be with Jaina. He’d waited too long, uselessly fighting against his overwhelming feelings for her that just wouldn’t die. Stubbornly and with false pride he had let his anger blind him, refused to hear her pleas on Tenupe. He had rid himself of five years with her, and now he might not get another chance.
A low despaired groan escaped Jag’s lips as he pounded his fist against the cold metal of his beloved’s fighter. It was as close to her as he could dare to be, but it wasn’t enough.
His mind drifted in the whirlpool of memories. Brief flashes of happiness in a storm of dread, loss and confusion. They had been thrown into corroding tempests throughout their relationship. Even as teenagers they had been forced to fear of being deprived of one another, made to wait for news that took forever to arrive.
Jag couldn’t push back the churning emotions inside of him and he seriously doubted if he could stand obliviously sitting by her side again. Once had been hard enough and even then he’d had to let his guard down. This was worse and the pressure he felt in his chest gnawed on the last ripples of resolve he could muster. He needed to maintain his shields, to keep his feelings in check. His building desperation wouldn’t help Jaina, but his strength was rapidly slipping through his grip.
He was torn apart. His trained instincts and driving emotions raged in an endless battle in his mind, leaving him vulnerable and helpless in the crossfire.
Ok Jag you obviously need ccp's three step cure for frustration and anger.
Step 1: find a 3/4 inch piece of pipe about 4 feet in length
Step 2: find an empty cargo crate wood is best but plastic will do, metal will work in a pinch.
Step 3: proceed to beat the hell out of crate with pipe.
Does this actually help any problem, no, but it always makes me feel better to get it all out. If you completely demolish crate and still don't feel better repeat steps 2 & 3. Wood crates work better because they splinter and the destruction is more satisfing.
Great update!
This was fantastic. Totally shows Jag wrestling to maintain some semblance of control, but still being scared out of his mind for Jaina. Excellent interlude! I'm definitely looking forward to more!
