I'm back! Now to get caught up again...
Post IV
Great post.
"Stop being a negative nova, Princess," her husband whispered as he stood beside her, "Everything is going to be okay, trust me."
Doesn't that usually mean it's not?
The party then all turned to leave except for Jagged and Soontir. "Well Father I guess we're waiting for the Beauty Extraordinare."
Jaina?
Soontir shook his head and chuckled, "We could be here a while Jagged, she's primping. But I wasn't going to hold everyone else up waiting on her."
...or not.
Just then squeals of laughter sounded as Wynssa Fel bounded down the boarding ramp with tears in her eyes. She went straight into her brothers arms. Jag caught her without missing a beat and buried his face in her hair.
After a moment he pulled away and looked at her giving her a kiss on the forehead. As always she looked nearly identical to their mother. He embraced her again and whispered a joke to her in Chiss. That stopped the tears long enough for her to punch him. She enveloped him again.
Lovely moment.
Masters Katarn and Durron also stood with them watching the Imperial's land, and the seemingly never ending parade of pomp and circumstance unfold before them. The six of them stood off to the side from the offical delegation. In theory they were honorary attendee's from the Jedi Order. In reality they were back-up in case any malcontent or lunatic got any ideas with all the big brass around. That did not need to happen under any circumstances.
I couldn't help but laugh because, at least in Kyp's case, he would have been classified as the "malcontent or lunatic" a few decades back.
At that point Master Katarn had had enough and turned around with a scolding look on his face, "Will you two ever grow up? Because I've listened to you for far too many years. I swear Horn, your kids are more mature than you and Durron."
Corran looked offended, "But Kyle, we love you. Sat by your sick bed, day and night while you recovered from the hole of all holes in the chest.
"Thats right," Kyp added, "and we even brought you pretty flowers and sang to you while you were unconscious."
Katarn grunted and rolled his eyes, "I would have prefered death."
It was then that Valin Horn finally spoke, "I'm going to marry her."
Awww...
Corran was completely flabergasted by Valin's unusual behavior. He shook his head and wondered what the next few moments would hold, what destiny they would shape. He could feel it in the Force, they all could. Something big was fixing to happen.
Ooohhh...is that a premonition?
Post V
Awesome!
Jaina jumped slightly in her bed and looked up to see her Uncle Luke standing there with flowers. He grinned, "I heard yours weren't very fresh anymore, so here are some fresh ones, Mara's favorite."
But no kick in the behind for being self pitying?
He tightened his grip on her hands, “Promise me. Promise me that you’ll go and not look back Jaina. Don’t look back.”
Jaina knew that she would never forget the look on her Uncles face. The acceptance, the pain and the finality of it all was written in the lines on his face.
“Yes, Uncle Luke, I will.”
I loved the way you wrote this scene.
However, fate had twisted and the Jedi and Moff's had asked him to serve before his father had even arrived. To refuse would bring dishonor on his family, and he could not do that. He would not do that.
Poor Jag. He never gets any choice whatsoever.
I'm wondering about the dream...does it have anything to do with the Legacy comics (I haven't read them, so I wouldn't know)
"Will you marry me?"
She looked into his eyes. This time she allowed love to govern her answer not duty. "Yes," she said, "I will."
YAYYYYYYY!!!
Looking forward to more!

Thank you, I worked hard on it. It was very important to me to capture Jaina's vulnerbility and Luke's resolve. How that will play out in canon when Jaina leaves the Order for the Empire, I'm not quite sure...but I sincerely hope that there is an understanding of love and appreciation between Luke and The Sword. Given the man that Luke Skywalker is, I can't see how it could really be otherwise.

*nods* Very good Nightsword...and no he doesn't. Jag is Obi-Wan without Force power. He takes everything that life hands him in stride.
He doesn't falter he just moves forward. Whether it be Jay dumping him, the Killik fiasco, or his fate in Invincible
He serves and he moves forward.
Jag is steady and strong; not alot of fuss or carrying-on and he's the type of guy who is true to a promise that you can ride in a storm...the fortitude doesn't crack. Even though you seldom seldom see whats behind it. That's why I wrote his and Jaina's first scene together the way I did...his reaction to the miscarriage. For once I wanted glimpse of what lurks underneath. And there will be more of that.
Jagged Fel is simply...BADASS! He's simply the best.

Thanks for the wonderful replies everyone! Chapter VI is still in the works, not even finished yet...much less to Beta. However, I have sent an Exile missing scene to Beta.

Patience, Young One.
No
Oh, yeah, that would be alot of Corellian Crashing.
Many of those around, aren’t there
“ ”
I'm sorry Maggy, is that just in Austria? Does Darkhorse not have outlets there?
There are comic shops somewhere in Vienna ... though I am not that often there anymore, and I not really know where to find them all
I was not yet that tempted .. though the Legacy ones look pretty cool
And like Han he has multiple blasters.
I just love those two together. I think Aaron Allston summed it up best.
Did he?
“ ”
*nods* Han never understood Jacen.
Who did?
Yes, Niathal. There is someone else I would have really liked to add, but I think it would have crossed the spoiler guideline, so I'll have to leave it there for now.
a certain lady who was talking with Gilad before he met Tahiri?
As always...good catch, my friend.
Another 1000 points for Mags.
I'm sorry Mags, did you mean Leia or Jaina?
Leia
Sure she can worry as a mother though she can’t change the path of her daughter
Yeah, Wedge is a happy man these days and that always makes me
You have a soft spot for the old man?
Always listen to your Aunt! That's what I tell my niece and nephew.
sure they shall listen to you
It is kinda a bummer when you say it like that. But, yeah...
That’s exactly what has happened
And Jag was dancing before her nose all the time
Awe, and you would have been right.
Though I would have picked Chak
*nods* Definately. Definately. I believe in stayin in ones own age bracket.
Kyp is a old lad compare to her ... though ... Jaina is just a tad older
You think so?
Corran might pay him back for that later
For setting his son up
And, man, I love that actress.
Something else ya love
Aye, yes, he did well. He didn't get shot down anyway. Or, maybe, Wynessa is just being nice.
And she has some brothers
Thanks Mags, I like to mix it up.
I think it's just alot for her at once. Or, maybe, it's Jacen's death... Or a combination of just alot of tragedy. But she's Leia...she's armor. She'll be fine. Thank you so much For reading Maggy, and for the awesome reply!
Yeah true, she is gone through a lot, but so have her family generally.
Yep she is …
You are very welcome
Chapter V: Jagged's Song
"Love is the answer to the darkness."
-M.W. Stover RotS Novelization
well chosen
Jaina Solo sat in her bed staring out the window of her med-ward room.
She had received many visitors that afternoon and they all had lifted her spirits. She had seen her parents of course, Tenel Ka and under very heavy guard, her niece.
Jaina had sat and drawn pictures with Allana and tied bows in her hair.
Cute
And good to see she is up to that already
Her niece was pure and perfect. Jaina decided that she represented everything that was good in the universe. However she had still not seen Jag. He had not come back after their fight.
She must be very sad about that
And it certainly gives her bangs that her brother has a kid and thanks to him she lost hers
Her parents had assured her that he had not left the planet but that his parents had arrived and he had been in meeting after meeting with his father and many others. Or maybe, she thought he just didn't want to see her. Maybe, he didn't care anymore, she had cost him a son, and she could understand that.
She began to cry. Tears were not that unusual for her these days.
Heart touching
Poor Jaina
Clighal had told her that morning that due to the amount of damage her insides had taken when she hemorrhaged and miscarried, she would be left with horrific scar tissue, that even Jedi healing techniques could not completely eliminate. Her and Jag's chances of conceiving naturally were now greatly reduced.
She was just as destructive to the people that loved her as her grandfather and brother, only in a different way. She angrily swiped the tears from her eyes. Maybe it was for the best, she'd probably be just as rotten of a mother as she was a lover.
She has a high opinion of herself right now
"I don't think that would be the case at all. Don't you even think that, Jaina."
Jaina jumped slightly in her bed and looked up to see her Uncle Luke standing there with flowers. He grinned, "I heard yours weren't very fresh anymore, so here are some fresh ones, Mara's favorite."
Luke is right .. she shall not think such things at all!
Luke was rewarded with a smile as she recognized the beautiful red velvet looking flowers that her aunt had loved so much and always kept about.
"Thank you Uncle Luke," she said taking them and then holding them up to her nose and inhaling deeply. "Lovely, just what I needed."
"I'm glad," he said and took the chair beside her bed. He was thoughtful for a moment as if not quite sure how to say what he wanted to. Jaina knew what was coming and sat quietly for it. Softly Luke said, "Sweetheart why didn't you tell anyone you were pregnant?"
"It wouldn't have changed anything Uncle Luke. I still had to go, I was the only one who could." She nearly began to cry again but somehow managed to choke back the tears and continued. "It was the most horrific choice I ever had to make, but I know it was the only one I really had, and I'll live with the consequences for the rest of my life. I'm afraid it may have cost me Jag for good this time."
"I doubt that, Jaina. I think he just needs some time and that’s understandable. He sat by your bedside nearly unmoving for over a month, if that’s not love and devotion I've never seen it."
Luke does know better than her
And yep it is a sign of love
Over a month ... it must have taken a toll on him too!
"He was waiting for me to wake up so he could give me a piece of his mind."
Silly girl!
Luke frowned at his niece, "No, that wasn't it. I saw the look on his face and in his eyes. He loves you...I know."
She smiled at him and then turned thoughtful herself, "Uncle Luke can I ask you something?"
"Of course Jaina you can ask me anything."
She took a deep breath, "How was he in the end? Darth Caedus, I mean...what was he like? I'm sorry, normally I wouldn't ask you to relive that, but I must know."
Luke Skywalker took a deep breath, "He died in my arms Jaina, he said to tell you that he was sorry. At that point it was complete insanity, and a void that just overtook his soul."
She blurted out, "Yeah sure he was sorry." She felt her anger and hatred rise. Blowing a breath out, she purged the emotions from her mind. "Do you think he found redemption?"
"I hope so, Jaina...Force, I hope so." The Jedi Grand Master then took a deep breath and took his nieces hands.
“It wasn’t you was it Uncle Luke?”
She didn’t wait for an answer, “it was me who gave the final blow wasn’t it?” But Jaina didn't need to hear him say anything because she knew.
So he lied?! cause of her? Or cause of the Solos?
Luke Skywalker looked at his niece, his emotions showing nothing in the Force, “Jaina I want you to promise me something. I want you to let it go…all of it. I want you to go with Jag and build your own life and leave the tragedies and pain behind you and serve the Force well. You have a destiny Jaina, and it will take you away from the Jedi Order. Don’t fight it…accept it.
Very good advice
“Uncle Luke...”
Mhh... we will see about that
Leia was in a light sleep , which was all she could accomplish these days. She awoke easily when the door opened. The young man who walked through looked tired but resolved. She gave him an uneasy smile and said, “She’s resting.”
“I know. I won’t wake her. ”
Leia observed him for a moment. She had been impressed with him from the moment she had first seen him fourteen years earlier. And through it all, that initial impression had never left her regardless of everything that had happened since. She fondly remembered the evening approximately a year earlier when she and Mara had joked about Jaina marrying her childhood friend, Zekk. She smiled to herself, that evening seemed like a lifetime ago.
And the joke was probably wrong
Though after she shot down Jag not so wrong for a time .. at least it looked like that
Even then Leia had known it was nothing more than a joke. There had only been one man who had ever held the heart of Jaina Solo.
Some might say differently
She had felt her daughter’s knees go weak and her pulse rate rise the first time she had laid eyes on him all those years ago on the Tafanda Bay. All Jaina had spoken about for days is how she wanted to meet the Chiss leader who kept shooting her down in the sims.
That night, he had walked through the door like he owned the universe leading the Chiss pilot’s up to the dais. He had bypassed Borsk Fey’lya, walking straight over to Jaina without flinching and introducing himself. His green eyes had burned with passion and intelligence that night as he stared Jaina down to the core of her soul, causing her cheeks to flush. His eyes still burned like that, even if the tragedies that he had endured had slightly aged his handsome face.
In spite of his privileged upbringing and education, he was somehow completely unspoiled and level headed. Some said he was arrogant and standoffish, Leia didn’t think so. She saw it more as a quiet subtle strength that wasn’t overly trusting of anyone. He couldn’t afford to be and that would only become more so in the years to come.
Jaina had been moved from the direct care medical wing to an observation room that was like a personal bedroom and was much more comfortable for family to stay with her. There was a fold-out couch which Leia had been resting on for hours. The paint on the walls was a soft yellow hue and the floor was done in a beautiful light brown tile.
“She's been asking for you for days now.” Leia said, as she gave the young man a reproving look.
“I came soon as I could.”
Yeah sure ... if he would have wanted to come earlier he would have managed – he did before
Or he feared her fury?
She gave him another look of reproach and said, “The conferences must have been busy. I’ll leave you alone, goodnight.”
“Thank you, Leia.”
She bent and kissed her daughter’s sleeping form one more time and turned to leave.
“Leia,” the young man called after her as she reached the door.
“Yes,” she turned and said.
“I’m truly sorry.”
He has to tell Jaina, not Leia
The Princess smiled gently at him, “I know.” And with that she was gone.
The young man then looked at Jaina Solo sleeping peacefully in | |
