HAPPY BIRTHDAY SAB!!!!
*passes Sab an e-magarita* There's plenty more, so drink up!
Kick....this post breaks my heart and gives me hope. *sigh* The loss of a child, at any stage, is awful. And it can drive the most loving people apart.
But Jag and Jaina don't break, they're battered but they're whole and together.
That's true love.
Brava, love.

Jag, darnit, be nice!
VERY nicely done...this flows quite conceivably in to making Jag the new Pellaeon/benevolent Emperor. And I *love* when Jag and Han talk. Those two are more alike than they want to admit!!

Lovely post! The chapter title seems particularly appropriate.
"I knew what your reaction would be...what you would say.."
Jag stood quickly and threw the chair he had been sitting in across the room, smashing several vases of beautiful exotic Hapan flowers. Jaina didn't need her Force senses to see and feel the anger, heartbreak, and feeling's of utter betrayal that were radiating off of him in wave after wave of raw emotion.
One of the few times I can think of where it isn't a good idea to act first and get permission later (if my comment makes any sense)
"Sorry, old habits die hard." A ghost of smile creased the boy's face. Jag drew himself up wiping tears from his eyes. "Han, if this is about Jaina being pregnant, I'll remind you that we are thirty-three and thirty-one respectfully and are capable of making such decisions. If you want to kill me, fine, I really wouldn't mind too much at the moment. But please, let me go get her something to eat first. "
If Han had really been out to get him, though, I doubt that would have helped.
And Soontir Fel had deemed that Han Solo, hero of the Rebellion and New Republic, could be trusted.
It seems like desperate times call for desperate measures.
"Make no mistake about who will win, I'd bet the Falcon on it. The Ruling Famlies have met their match, I'll assure you." Solo grinned, "They've never dealt with my wife's political strong-arming. You're exile will 'officially' be lifted after she 'speaks' with them, guaranteed. And don't worry about the crap-hold of GA politics, I'll handle that myself."
Of course.
Very nice! Looking forward to your next post.

¯Jagged Fel to Shawnkyr Nuruodo
Yes. Jag Fel Rules! Ok. That's all of that for now.
Chapter III - The Price of A New Hope
Jag sat there motionless, he didn't react to anything; sight or sound. His only movements were to rub her hand in his and to breathe. This time it was him that would wait by the sick bed, forever if need be, until she woke up. Fett and his granddaugther had stabilized her aboard their ship, keeping Jaina alive until they were able to reach Hapes.
After they had arrived those first few weeks had been horrific. Jiana had had to undergo five surgeries; two had been reconstructive on her face, one to repair her clavicle and both broken femur bones, one to repair her internal damage and one to deal with what had been their son. Uh oh.
To speed the healing process, the medics had kept her sedated for the first couple of weeks, because the amount of pain that she was in had been too much for even a Jedi to deal with.
Then infection had started to set in, so Clighal had put her into the healing trance that she was still in now, four weeks later. Clighal had advised that it was the type of trance Jaina could wake herself from when her body was ready.
He had not moved from her side for more than a half-hour at a time over the last six weeks, and even those brief breaks were only when absolutely necessary. Her parents also took vigils, but they would leave twice a day. Solo just couldn't take it, and Leia knew she could do him more good right now than she could Jaina. So they had taken the less painful path of following the constant news coverage of Jacen Solo's death and the immediate aftermath of the war.
For Jagged there were no words in any of the many languages that he knew that would adequetly describe what he was feeling. He wasn't even sure that he felt anymore. Yeah, I can totally see that.
Everything that he had ever wanted, everything that he had ever needed had almost been his. But once again it had slipped away from him. He wondered how often that could happen to one person in one lifetime. He wondered why the universe thought it was fair for two people to suffer through everything that he and Jaina had suffered through.
He didn't know. He didn't have those answers. All he could do was sit and wait. He closed his eyes and continued to hold her hand.
Then, almost as if she could hear his troubled thoughts, his willingness for her to live and to be alright reached through the layers of unconsciousness that she was in, and Jaina began to wake-up.
At first Jag thought he had imagined her voice but he hadn't. Her voice, faint from pain and disuse, "Jag."
"I'm here, Jaina."
And now...the fun begins...
She gripped his hand in response and opened her eyes, instantly trying to focus them on the young man by her bedside. "You're safe, Jag. Thats whats important."
Fel said nothing more just continued to sit and hold her hand.
Jaina tried to reach through the Force but she was obviously too weak, so she asked him, "Jag, is my uncle...."
"He's fine Jaina. He was only in med-bay for a couple of days, and a few bacca treatments. You were in the tank for weeks."
She nodded and then tried to move, but thought better of it and just continued to grip his hand. Again she asked, "And Darth Caedus?"
"He's dead Jaina. He's dead. Your uncle put his lightsaber through his chest. They cremated his body two days later."
"Oh," was all she said. Jaina didn't know how she felt about that. She didn't know whether or not she would ever forgive her twin for becoming a Sith, and forcing the burden on her that he had.
She didn't know if she would ever be able to distingish between Jacen Solo and Darth Caedus. He had caused her and everyone else who had ever loved him untold pain and tragedy.
"The medical team said you shouldn't exert yourself too much at first, so maybe we should talk later."
"No," she said and then she really looked at him. Her vision was improving rapidly and she could make out the details of his face. The bandages over her forehead came almost to her eyelids but she could see him clearly. She noted that his eyes were bloodshot and his clothes obviously hadn't been changed in days. His beard, which he normally kept perfectly trimed, was long and unkept, and somehow he looked older.
She smiled at him and put her hand on her stomach desperately trying to feel the tiny life that would bring her peace. I starting cringing at this point.
Thats when Jag spoke once again.
"My son is gone, Jaina. Your mother and Fett's granddaugther were unable to save him, and by the time we reached Hapes it was too late. Jag decided against telling her that the chances of more children were significantly low due to the damage her body had taken. Yeah, I'm thinking that will have to come up later though dear.
Horror flooded Jaina at his words. The pain they caused her far exceeded the loss of both her brothers, Mara, Chewie and countless other friends. She knew then that a part of her had died in that instant, and that she would never be the same. But what scared Jaina the most was the complete lack of emotion that had been in Jag's voice when he said them. Be very afraid sister.
She began to cry uncontrolably. Years of buried heartache and pain reaching a boiling point that she was no longer able to control, and she didn't even try.
Jag let her hand go.
She reached for his hand again but he didn't respond; he just sat there stoic and unmoving.
"Oh, Jag...I'm sorry..I'm so sorry."
"You're always sorry, Jaina, but that doesn't change the consequences of your actions does it? When were you going to tell me? When you thought I had a right to know? And, don't you dare lie to me and tell me you didn't know you were pregnant. Don't you dare." He does kinda have a point. She did tend to do that quite a bit. Do something, then say I'm sorry. As I tell Jake, if you're really sorry, then you won't do it again.
Hello. Didn't expect that. Somebody needs a time out.
He was shouting now, "When does it stop, Jaina!? This.....this destructive behavior of yours, it has broken my heart and nearly cost me my life, but - Corellian Hells help me - I still loved you. But now it has cost my son his life, and he was defenseless! How could you....how could you do this?! Answer me that, damn it! Answer me that!"
"I had no choice, Jag. What was the alternative? For him to grow-up in a galaxy with Darth Caedus hunting him, trying to kill him."
Fel took two steps towards her then and she actually recoiled at the look in his eyes, "I would have protected my son, Jaina, don't insult me. You say you love me but your actions have never showed that. You have always put everything and everyone else above me. It's always been about your duty and what you wanted and I'm..."
"What I wanted, Jag?" Now it was Jaina's voice that trembled with anger. "What I wanted? I never wanted any of it. I never wanted anything but you." She paused then, gathering herself. Now she has a point. She's always denied herself what she wanted to do what she thought she should do instead.
"You think I wanted to see my little brother being hacked to death? You think I wanted to loose Aunt Mara and everyone else that I've lost along the way? Do you think I wanted to face down my twin until one of us was dead? Do you think I wanted to see my family torn apart, and my parents hearts broken beyond repair?" She was crying harder now.
"And how could you think that I didn't want our baby, and did this to harm him?" I never wanted any of it, but it was what was put on me by forces out of my control!" She looked at him then and said, "And I will do what I must to protect those who depend on me."
"Except for my son of course." Fel's reply was cold, but not filled with anger as before. Anger is of the darkside!!!!
She buried her face in her hands despite the discomfort it caused her neck and wept, "Our son, Jag..our son."
Crying himself Fel asked, "why did you leave us and go on alone? If you had waited for back-up maybe this wouldn't have happened."
She shook her head, "I couldn't stand the thought of you dying, Jag. That was a sacrifice I was unwilling to make, I'm sorry."
Turning away from her, Fels shoulders shook with stifled sobs. Now this, was scary. I teared up a little.
Jaina was afraid that she had finally pushed him too far, hurt him one too many times, that there was now too much damage and baggage to their bond for them to ever be together. She was afraid that this would be too much for him to forgive and she would loose him forever. Nah. He loves you too damn much woman. He's just gonna take a little while to get over this.
Terror welled in her. Now that the Sword of the Jedi had fulfilled it's destiny, Jaina Solo was ready to have hers. The only one she had ever wanted. She called out in desperation, "Jag! Please don't leave. I love you and I need you."
Without facing her, Jag shook his head. "We both need to calm down. Clighal said that you could take food when you woke up. I'll inform her that you're awake and get you something to eat. And I need some time."
She nodded numbly. "I am hungry, thank you. Please don't stay away too long."
He walked away from her and didn't look back; the tears still flowing from his eyes.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`
Jag closed the door behind him quietly and when he looked up he was face to face with Jaina's parents. They had no doubt over heard the way he had just spoken to their daughter. Leia shot him an inscrutable look, before moving past him into Jaina's room.
Jag looked away as she passed unable to meet her eyes. Shame welled up in his heart. He should not have shouted at Jaina like that, given her physical and emotional state.
After she shut the door behind her Jag stood looking Han Solo dead in the eye, "I'm sorry, I was upset. I could have handled that much better."
"I'm not the one you should be apologizing to," Solo said. No ****
"Agreed."
"Jag, don't make the mistake of hurting people that love you like I did after Chewie's death. Because while they may forgive you for it, you can never take it back." [color=crimson]Voice of reason everyone!
The younger man nodded, "So noted Captain Solo. Thank you."
"Walk with me, Jag," Solo said turning away. After about five steps he realised that Jag wasn't following him, "Didn't you hear me?"
"Captain So-"
"It's Han, Jag, you can call me Han."
"Sorry, old habits die hard." A ghost of smile creased the boy's face. Jag drew himself up wiping tears from his eyes. "Han, if this is about Jaina being pregnant, I'll remind you that we are thirty-three and thirty-one respectfully and are capable of making such decisions. If you want to kill me, fine, I really wouldn't mind too much at the moment. But please, let me go get her something to eat first. " PMSL! I so didn't expect this. Too funny.
Solo's eyes narrowed and Jag instantly regretted bringing up the subject, "No, thats not what this is about Mr. Smarty Armor. However, I would like an answer to what happened to Leia's Alderaanean dishes." Mr. Smarty Armor?! LMAO!
"Yeah, well, for someone who is suppossedley a 'non-person' you sure seem to have alot of contact with your father, Jag," Solo said, his typical sarcasam dripping from his mouth.
"I never said I had no contact with my father." No he didn't. Everyone inferred that.
"No, you didn't, but you sure as hell alluded to it." Solo then wiped his brow with his hand, "Soontir and I have had some very ineresting conversations these last few days, he wouldn't say much over the channel but I get the gist," he grinned. "I'm much brighter than I look, you know." Solo continued, "He said to tell you that 'all is well that ends well and the fist is ready'." I would have loved to have been a fly on that wall.
Jag closed his eyes, that was the phrase that he and his father had set up. Anyone who recited it could be trusted as an ally. And Soontir Fel had deemed that Han Solo, hero of the Rebellion and New Republic, could be trusted.
Fel nodded, it was a relief in a way, finally someone he could confide in. He opened his eyes and said, "What would you like to know Han? But we can't go into alot of detail here, or anywhere else until we have an absolutely secure location."
"Oh hell, Jag, what do I want to know? Well for starters when did this start? What are your plans exactly? How do you plan to do it? Was Pellaeon involved? Hell, was Thrawn involved?" He paused for only a second before his next statement, "But mostly, how do I help?" Han Solo 's eyes were deadly serious.
Fel shook his head in disbelief, he leaned in close to the other mans face and whispered, "To be clear, Han Solo is offering to promote an Imperial Resurgency?"
The older man's face became deathly still. It was then that Jag saw the 'other' Han Solo that he had often heard about. This Han Solo had the expression of a hardened, ruthless mercenary on his face.
"You lost a son Fel. Now imagine losing two sons that you loved, raised and actually held in your arms, before they even reached the prime of their lives; one of them just a seventeen year-old kid. Having to watch two sons burn on a damn funeral prye. Imagine knowing that your sole surviving child is scarred for life because of it. And imagine knowing that it could have all been prevented if we had just taken another path." That's one way to put it in perspective that he'll understand.
He took a deep breath then, "Rest assurred I'll do whatever I have to to secure my daughter's future. My ultimate loyality is to Leia and Jaina; not a government and not to the Jedi Order. If securing Jaina's future means backing your 'operation', then so be it. I'd back a Hutt if I had to." That's why he's such a cool father.
Jag snorted.
"No offense intended. I have faith in you Jag, and I have faith that you'll do the right thing by my daughter."
After evaluating the older man for a long moment Fel nodded. "Very well then. Are Fett, Lando, Karrde and the Queen Mother all still here?"
Jag's eyebrow arched slightly, "That will be a battle of the wills, no doubt."
"Make no mistake about who will win, I'd bet the Falcon on it. The Ruling Famlies have met their match, I'll assure you." Solo grinned, "They've never dealt with my wife's political strong-arming. You're exile will 'officially' be lifted after she 'speaks' with them, guaranteed. And don't worry about the crap-hold of GA politics, I'll handle that myself." Again, a fly on the wall. Hell, you could sell tickets to this!
"By doing what, may I ask?"
Han noted the change in Jagged since the start of their conversation. It was as if another man had emerged; a man that had been hidden for years right under their noses. The man that stood before him would reshape the galaxy and reshape his families destiny. This young man was the new hope. I loved this paragraph! It's so true.
Thoughtfulness then showed on Solo features, "Jag, this could get ugly, real ugly. The sort of world your stepping into can rob men of their souls. It's not safe and warm like being shot at in a clawcraft or X-wing; it's much uglier than that. You don't seem like the type, are you sure you can handle this?" He's Jag Fel. He can handle anything honey.
Fel looked him hard in the eye and said, "I think I can make a difference. Maybe I could help stop these continuous destructive conflicts, find a peaceful way to have order without bloodshed. I feel this is right and why I feel that it's my duty."
After along moment Solo put his hand on Jags shoulder and said, "Alright then, let's see what we can do. Just remember to treat my daughter right and you'll have no problem with me."
"Always," Jag said and turned to head back to the lift.
Behind him he heard Han Solo say the words that he had said so many years ago in the Yuuzhan Vong war.
"Fly Well."
He turned around with a new sense of purpose, of destiny and repeated his words from the past, "I always do."
Beautiful dear! Simply marvelous! I loved it! I would read a little, then scroll down to make sure there was a bunch left. LOL Didn't want it to end.
Thank you for the birthday wishes too. You're so sweet.
Defineately. Jag doesn't really have a problem with pride, that is something that isn't accepted in Chiss society, really...at least not in an arrogant way. What Jag has a problem with is his temper at times. Certainly not to the extend that Jaina does, but when he is pushed to his limits like in TSW..you'll see him lose it...if only for an instant. That's how its done! Let 'em think what you want without backing yourself into a corner. Sly, Jag, real sly.
Fel is brilliant. I think that often gets overlooked...just how brilliant he is. I'm almost ready to put him on a level with Thrawn himself.
Yeah, he's pretty smart to. I think somewhere deep inside him Solo knew that becoming Jedi would destroy his family. And that - I think - will play out in the future storyline...bigtime.
Nice!
Wow, they all have been brutalized through these last couple wars, haven't they? Its like the sympathy I feel isn't even worth mentioning...
Jag sat there motionless, he didn't react to anything; sight or sound. His only movements were to rub her hand in his and to breathe. This time it was him that would wait by the sick bed, forever if need be, until she woke up. Fett and his granddaugther had stabilized her aboard their ship, keeping Jaina alive until they were able to reach Hapes.
After they had arrived those first few weeks had been horrific. Jiana had had to undergo five surgeries; two had been reconstructive on her face, one to repair her clavicle and both broken femur bones, one to repair her internal damage and one to deal with what had been their son.
To speed the healing process, the medics had kept her sedated for the first couple of weeks, because the amount of pain that she was in had been too much for even a Jedi to deal with.
I had a bad feeling about that.
*nods*
Jag4Me posted: She smiled at him and put her hand on her stomach desperately trying to feel the tiny life that would bring her peace.
Thats when Jag spoke once again.
"My son is gone, Jaina. Your mother and Fett's granddaugther were unable to save him, and by the time we reached Hapes it was too late. Jag decided against telling her that the chances of more children were significantly low due to the damage her body had taken.
Horror flooded Jaina at his words. The pain they caused her far exceeded the loss of both her brothers, Mara, Chewie and countless other friends. She knew then that a part of her had died in that instant, and that she would never be the same. But what scared Jaina the most was the complete lack of emotion that had been in Jag's voice when he said them.
She began to cry uncontrolably. Years of buried heartache and pain reaching a boiling point that she was no longer able to control, and she didn't even try.
Oh no NO NO!
I know, I know. I thought that these two needed a final blow that would either make them or break them. The lose of the child was the only way to do that, unfortunately.
Jag4Me posted:
Perfect J/J, they have to torture each other to show how powerful their love is...but how long
I know, me to. I can't stand to see my sweetheart cry. And you make a very good point about J/J and their relationship. Very valid.
Jag4Me posted: "Jag, don't make the mistake of hurting people that love you like I did after Chewie's death. Because while they may forgive you for it, you can never take it back."
The younger man nodded, "So noted Captain Solo. Thank you."
"Walk with me, Jag," Solo said turning away. After about five steps he realised that Jag wasn't following him, "Didn't you hear me?"
"Captain So-"
"It's Han, Jag, you can call me Han."
Oh yeah, Leia's years of training Han is finally taking hold.
Leia is the Master. I defend her at all cost at all times.
Jag4Me posted: Solo's eyes narrowed and Jag instantly regretted bringing up the subject, "No, thats not what this is about Mr. Smarty Armor. However, I would like an answer to what happened to Leia's Alderaanean dishes."
Solo grinned as the blood drained from Jag's face and smirked, "Yeah, that's what I figured."
YES! I knew he would notice the dishes!! Thank you for following up the pain and anguish
with something to smile about. whew!
Yeah, that was a nice break and I enjoyed writing that line. And I knew you'd catch it.
Jag4Me posted: He took a deep breath then, "Rest assurred I'll do whatever I have to to secure my daughter's future. Jag snorted.
"No offense intended. I have faith in you Jag, and I have faith that you'll do the right thing by my daughter."
Jag4Me posted: After evaluating the older man for a long moment Fel nodded. "Very well then. Are Fett, Lando, Karrde and the Queen Mother all still here?"
oooo! I love Lando and Karrde! There has not been enough of those guys lately! I am so pleased you
are going to bring them in?? Hoping?
We'll see, I haven't written the second half to this 'fic yet. But totally agreed that the more Talon and Lando..the better.
LMAO! The Margarita's were last night. I went out last night with my aunt, uncle, cousin and some friends. We went through a couple of pitchers, but I had to drive home, so not a lot. Plus I had Jake. My rents took me out tonight. I'll probably drink Friday night when I go out with my friends from college. Believe me, St. Louis is safe from me. I'm crazy enough sober. LOL
Jag was kind of mean to Jaina there, but he needed it.
I think that it's a bit surprising that Han agreed to help Jag so easily, but with how skeptical of the GA and the Jedi he's been in LotF, I can see it.
THE_PIED_PIPER posted: Defineately. Jag doesn't really have a problem with pride, that is something that isn't accepted in Chiss society, really...at least not in an arrogant way. What Jag has a problem with is his temper at times. Certainly not to the extend that Jaina does, but when he is pushed to his limits like in TSW..you'll see him lose it...if only for an instant. Then it's back to business..back to the control that is the essence of Jagged Fel.
Well, I didn't mean pride as in an egocentric arrogance...I guess it was a bad choice of words...but I just meant the whole "MY son" thing and seemingly not even realizing that Jaina has got to be distraught, too. More along the lines of the whole temper thing..like you said...but its hard to apologize when you are angry, or are still reeling from the adrenaline your anger caused. So I guess pride was the wrong word...though I still can't think of a better one
What an awesome chapter! The different sides of Jag are so amazingly written. There's the side that's all about Jaina and then there's the business side. And the one that's all about Jaina is having some conflicting emotions. He loves her, but he's angry because she tried to protect him and in doing so lost their child. (Which BTW ) (And he could have handled that better!! Yes, he was angry and hurt, but Jaina WAS the one who was carrying the baby after all! A little sensitivity is all I ask for!) (And more for both of them [but especially Jaina]! Possibly not being able to have any kids at all??? The galaxy is just not fair! )
The Jag/Han interaction was lovely. Han is definitely someone Jag can trust.
(Hope that wasn't too jumbled, it is after 2 AM where I am. )
