<Jaina's POV on her parents and Jag. love PG 28>

Leia, who sat on a stool at the end of the table--very much her own woman, but still with Han, as always. It was astark contrast with Fett's fifty years of loneliness, and Jaina found herslef glancing at Jagged Fel's square jaw drooling and squarer shoulders drooling drooling hoping she would survive long enough to someday have what her parents did.

Then Jag caught her looking at him, and his grim frown was replaced by a passably warm smile. Jaina glanced away without returning the gesture, telling herslef that she had only been looking in Jag's direction because Zekk wasn't present, that she wasnt ready to think about choosing anyone until she had finished with Jacen.

Denial is not pretty sweetheart! shame_on_you

Zekk and the two Hapan woman....hilaro!! Major Hilaro!!! Notice Jaina wasted no time in letting them know he wasn't her boyfriend.

Trista: "He's yours?

Jaya: "Uh, no, we don't....?. whistling ....." raised_brow laugh

Jag was so freaking cracking up.

And the Mando who had a crush on Jaya was so....cute. Of course ten minutes after he tells her he ends up on the wrong end of Caedus's lightsaber. sad

Chapter V: Jagged's Song

"Love is the answer to the darkness."

-M.W. Stover RotS Novelization

You say you want
Diamonds on a ring of gold
Your story to remain untold
Your love not to grow cold

All the promises we break
From the cradle to the grave
When all I want is you

Jaina Solo sat in her bed staring out the window of her med-ward room.

She had received many visitors that afternoon and they all had lifted her spirits. She had seen her parents of course, Tenel Ka and under very heavy guard, her niece.

Jaina had sat and drawn pictures with Allana and tied bows in her hair.

Her niece was pure and perfect. Jaina decided that she represented everything that was good in the universe. However she had still not seen Jag. He had not come back after their fight.

Her parents had assured her that he had not left the planet but that his parents had arrived and he had been in meeting after meeting with his father and many others. Or maybe, she thought he just didn't want to see her. Maybe, he didn't care anymore, she had cost him a son, and she could understand that.

She began to cry. Tears were not that unusual for her these days.

Clighal had told her that morning that due to the amount of damage her insides had taken when she hemorrhaged and miscarried, she would be left with horrific scar tissue, that even Jedi healing techniques could not completely eliminate. Her and Jag's chances of conceiving naturally were now greatly reduced.

She was just as destructive to the people that loved her as her grandfather and brother, only in a different way. She angrily swiped the tears from her eyes. Maybe it was for the best, she'd probably be just as rotten of a mother as she was a lover.

"I don't think that would be the case at all. Don't you even think that, Jaina."

Jaina jumped slightly in her bed and looked up to see her Uncle Luke standing there with flowers. He grinned, "I heard yours weren't very fresh anymore, so here are some fresh ones, Mara's favorite."

Luke was rewarded with a smile as she recognized the beautiful red velvet looking flowers that her aunt had loved so much and always kept about.

"Thank you Uncle Luke," she said taking them and then holding them up to her nose and inhaling deeply. "Lovely, just what I needed."

"I'm glad," he said and took the chair beside her bed. He was thoughtful for a moment as if not quite sure how to say what he wanted to. Jaina knew what was coming and sat quietly for it. Softly Luke said, "Sweetheart why didn't you tell anyone you were pregnant?"

"It wouldn't have changed anything Uncle Luke. I still had to go, I was the only one who could." She nearly began to cry again but somehow managed to choke back the tears and continued. "It was the most horrific choice I ever had to make, but I know it was the only one I really had, and I'll live with the consequences for the rest of my life. I'm afraid it may have cost me Jag for good this time."

"I doubt that, Jaina. I think he just needs some time and that’s understandable. He sat by your bedside nearly unmoving for over a month, if that’s not love and devotion I've never seen it."

"He was waiting for me to wake up so he could give me a piece of his mind."

Luke frowned at his niece, "No, that wasn't it. I saw the look on his face and in his eyes. He loves you...I know."

She smiled at him and then turned thoughtful herself, "Uncle Luke can I ask you something?"

"Of course Jaina you can ask me anything."

She took a deep breath, "How was he in the end? Darth Caedus, I mean...what was he like? I'm sorry, normally I wouldn't ask you to relive that, but I must know."

Luke Skywalker took a deep breath, "He died in my arms Jaina, he said to tell you that he was sorry. At that point it was complete insanity, and a void that just overtook his soul."

She blurted out, "Yeah sure he was sorry." She felt her anger and hatred rise. Blowing a breath out, she purged the emotions from her mind. "Do you think he found redemption?"

"I hope so, Jaina...Force, I hope so." The Jedi Grand Master then took a deep breath and took his nieces hands.

“It wasn’t you was it Uncle Luke?”

She didn’t wait for an answer, “it was me who gave the final blow wasn’t it?” But Jaina didn't need to hear him say anything because she knew.

Luke Skywalker looked at his niece, his emotions showing nothing in the Force, “Jaina I want you to promise me something. I want you to let it go…all of it. I want you to go with Jag and build your own life and leave the tragedies and pain behind you and serve the Force well. You have a destiny Jaina, and it will take you away from the Jedi Order. Don’t fight it…accept it.

“Uncle Luke...”

He tightened his grip on her hands, “Promise me. Promise me that you’ll go and not look back Jaina. Don’t look back.”

Jaina knew that she would never forget the look on her Uncles face. The acceptance, the pain and the finality of it all was written in the lines on his face.

“Yes, Uncle Luke, I will.”

Leia was in a light sleep , which was all she could accomplish these days. She awoke easily when the door opened. The young man who walked through looked tired but resolved. She gave him an uneasy smile and said, “She’s resting.”

“I know. I won’t wake her. ”

Leia observed him for a moment. She had been impressed with him from the moment she had first seen him fourteen years earlier. And through it all, that initial impression had never left her regardless of everything that had happened since. She fondly remembered the evening approximately a year earlier when she and Mara had joked about Jaina marrying her childhood friend, Zekk. She smiled to herself, that evening seemed like a lifetime ago.

Even then Leia had known it was nothing more than a joke. There had only been one man who had ever held the heart of Jaina Solo.

She had felt her daughter’s knees go weak and her pulse rate rise the first time she had laid eyes on him all those years ago on the Tafanda Bay. All Jaina had spoken about for days is how she wanted to meet the Chiss leader who kept shooting her down in the sims.

That night, he had walked through the door like he owned the universe leading the Chiss pilot’s up to the dais. He had bypassed Borsk Fey’lya, walking straight over to Jaina without flinching and introducing himself. His green eyes had burned with passion and intelligence that night as he stared Jaina down to the core of her soul, causing her cheeks to flush. His eyes still burned like that, even if the tragedies that he had endured had slightly aged his handsome face.

In spite of his privileged upbringing and education, he was somehow completely unspoiled and level headed. Some said he was arrogant and standoffish, Leia didn’t think so. She saw it more as a quiet subtle strength that wasn’t overly trusting of anyone. He couldn’t afford to be and that would only become more so in the years to come.

Jaina had been moved from the direct care medical wing to an observation room that was like a personal bedroom and was much more comfortable for family to stay with her. There was a fold-out couch which Leia had been resting on for hours. The paint on the walls was a soft yellow hue and the floor was done in a beautiful light brown tile.

“She's been asking for you for days now.” Leia said, as she gave the young man a reproving look.

“I came soon as I could.”

She gave him another look of reproach and said, “The conferences must have been busy. I’ll leave you alone, goodnight.”

“Thank you, Leia.”

She bent and kissed her daughter’s sleeping form one more time and turned to leave.

“Leia,” the young man called after her as she reached the door.

“Yes,” she turned and said.

“I’m truly sorry.”

The Princess smiled gently at him, “I know.” And with that she was gone.

The young man then looked at Jaina Solo sleeping peacefully in the bed. He was glad they had moved her to the observation unit that wasn't part of the medical facility but was only affiliated with it. The bed was a double so he could stay with her without crowding her. She hated that. He smiled, her face was now almost completely healed, one couldn’t see the scars her brother had left on her; not the external ones anyway.

The med-droid had reported to him that she was now off of all IV’s and able to walk without too much assistance. He of all people knew how stubborn she could be, and how much she refused to take help or assistance from anyone.

He went into the fresher to remove his clothes and prepare for bed. A wise young Chiss had once told him that Thrawn would have been impressed with him. He snorted at the irony of that and wondered what it even meant anymore. Somehow he thought Thrawn would be amused at Jag’s lifelong obsession with him, and the path that it had now ultimately set him on.

The changes his life had taken and the speed at which it had happened had been unnerving for even him. He would have never thought this to be his destiny. After Davin's death all he had wanted to do was fly claw-craft for the rest of his life…forever on the horizon, burning faceless enemies from the cockpit.

That dream was now dead like so many others.

He had not asked for any of it. He had been prepared to allow his father and younger brother to carry forward with the plans. He would have been happy to remain in a supportive role bringing about justice in the military as he had promised to do the night Jaina lay dying on the Milleniumm Falcon.

However, fate had twisted and the Jedi and Moff's had asked him to serve before his father had even arrived. To refuse would bring dishonor on his family, and he could not do that. He would not do that.

He removed his clothing and stepped under the sani-stream, allowing the boiling hot water that was his preference to wash over him. He sponged off with Corellian Spring and continued to stand, allowing the water to run over his face.

He emerged towelling off and put his sleep shorts on. He then smeared shave foam over the beard adorning his face and reached back into his flight bag and pulled out his razor bringing it to the high side of his skin under his left ear. He stopped and continued to stare at himself. After a long moment he put the razor down and wiped the foam from his face.

He would leave the beard. He knew that the clean shaven young man from his youth was gone and would remain hidden for the rest of his life, just like his face. He might as well be honest about it; he had had enough pretending for a lifetime.

Maybe Solo was right maybe he would end up losing his soul. However, people would get what they saw from him. That he had decided that horrific night on board the Millennium Falcon. And they only saw what they wanted to anyway.

It wasn’t plain strategy like the Chiss Military Academy where the best and the brightest were taught. No, life wasn’t like that at all, and that was one thing he had not been prepared for. He had not been prepared to allow himself to feel…because that had never been allowed.

You only react to aggression, not feelings or passion. Those were only to be appreciated. That’s why he had failed Jaina for so many years because she was nothing but passion. That’s why she had chosen to leave his bed all of those years ago after the Yuuzhan Vong war. She had just hid it behind the excuse of duty.

It was because he had been inadequate in dealing with her emotions and feelings and her utter devastation after the Myrkr mission, even though he had desperately tried to understand and be supportive of her.

It was different now.

His child that she lost had taught him that.

Now he got it.

He finally understood her.

And on that horrific night on board the Falcon as she lay near death in his arms, for the first time he had really felt her. Felt her on every level imaginable, every level that one could be felt or known. Jaina was different now as well. She was different than she had been before she left for Mandalore. She was now an assassin who had been aimed at her own brother because duty had required it. He was in love with a woman who was as deadly as she was beautiful. And who could kill him with little more than a thought and it didn't even phase him.

He continued to stare.

When he looked in the mirror he didn’t see the man he had planned to be. Somewhere along the line he had slipped off track. He had lost his focus and his purpose, but he would have them back. He would find another way and destiny had given him another calling even if he sometimes didn’t think he could bare it.

He cut the light and walked back into the bedroom. Gently he lifted the covers and slid underneath pulling himself up against Jaina. He ran his index finger down her arm and picked up her hand. As he listened to her breathe, part of him wanted to be selfish and kiss her awake.

But in the end he just kissed her forehead, somehow unable to wake her from her peaceful and hard earned slumber. He couldn’t really remember the last time he had slept peacefully, or horizontally, for that matter. He had attempted to sleep for weeks day in and day out in the chair beside Jaina’s bed to very little avail, and he certainly hadn’t rested since he had quarreled with her. He thought he might never find true rest again, but then he looked at her and he knew that he would.

“I love you…I always will,” he said as he buried his face in her long dark hair and closed his eyes finally finding rest.

Jaina Solo was dreaming and as always she was dreaming of Jagged Fel. She was surrounded by his love and lost in his passion as they lay together in an infinite night of fantasy. In her dream she inhaled deeply as she looked into his eyes and stroked his brow.

She had peace in her heart. It was as though she had never faced down her twin and she had not lost their child. Even in the dream, the thought of that made her cry. She had wanted that child since she was twenty-one years old and had tried to explain to Jag that she wanted a family with him, but that she just wasn’t ready. In the dream she cried at how foolish she had been and she cried as she heard a baby's cry and saw the look of pain on Jag’s face.

Then the dream changed and Jaina’s heart began to race in her chest. Death was at hand. And that was a feeling she certainly wasn’t a stranger to. She saw an old man lying wounded and bleeding profusely. He turned his head towards her and with horror she realized that it was Jag.

He was old, probably as old as Pellaeon was when he had been murdered by Tahiri Veila. His hair was now completely white and matched the shock that had been forged by a head injury when he was young teenager. His face was lined and weathered from age but it was still undeniably Jag. And he was dying.

As the vision played out before her eyes. Jaina began to call out to him but he couldn't hear her. She was powerless to defend him against the unseen assassins that had shot him at the base of his neck. But somehow even with the injury, he was still able to speak.

Just then a young man appeared and knelt by Jag's side. His back was turned towards Jaina so all she could see is that he had dark hair and wore brilliant red armor.

She knew that Jag spoke the young man’s name, but the Force wouldn’t allow her to hear it. However, she could hear the young man as he spoke, "I'll not leave you grandfather. I'll not leave you." And with that he wiped the blood from Jag's face and turned around.

Jaina's heart stopped. The young man that stood in the vision was the mere image of her father in his youth and his ice-blue eyes burned with the same blue fire that Anakin's once had.

His hair was the same black as Jag's had been and he even had a white shock in the exact same place in his hair line. The young man had a cold rage on his face and he ignited a light saber that burned true white light. He screamed to the unseen assassins, "Die in the name of the Emperor!"

And with that Jaina flew upright in bed disoriented and sweating. She gasped for air and reached through the Force for her bearings. She continued to heave as she returned to the present and her surroundings. She felt his presence then...it was warm and alive.

She looked to her right and he was there sleeping soundly, peacefully and he was young again. He was on his back with his arms spread out at full length taking up way more than his half of the bed.

It was only a dream Jaina, she told herself as she lay back down.

She turned to face him and as always ran her finger over his scar. She smiled, remembering how she used to use that to wake him. But he had become immune to it and now it was no threat to his slumber.

So she would resort to the second phase. Gently she began to tickle him directly under his arms and around his navel. Jag was very ticklish and she was probably the only person in the galaxy who knew that. She didn't have to wait long for the results.

"Stop it Jay."

"Awe, you're awake."

"I am now...thanks a lot." He said sleepily as he started to rub his eyes and he gently yawned. He laid there staring at the ceiling and then after a long moment he looked out the window, "Day break, I love it." He then got out of the bed, and as had always been his custom, walked over to the window to watch the horizon.

Jaina turned in the bed and just watched him standing there with his legs spread apart and his hands fastened behind his back. He was, of course, shirtless and his sleep shorts stopped just before his knees. She grinned, not a bad morning view at all.

He turned, smiled at her, winked and then turned back around. She started to giggle at him as he turned around again. This time he held out his hand "Watch the dawn with me?"

She pulled her half of the blanket back and got up, putting her hand in his. He took her under his arm and brought her to stand in front of him, bending down and placing his chin on the top of her head.

"I heard you call out earlier," he said.

Jaina tensed wondering what all she had said in her sleep. "Oh, what did I say?"

"It was all mumbled, I couldn't tell."

Relief flooded over her as she thanked the Force, "I'm sure it wasn't anything important Jag. Jedi have intense dreams sometimes. I think the deep connection to the Force I've been using for the last couple of days just has an after burn or something."

He was silent and questioned her no more about it and she was glad. Hopefully he would conclude that it had something to do with Jacen and let it lie. She couldn't tell Jag about the vision. But she didn't want to lie to him either, so she sincerely hoped that he would let it go with that explanation. He probably suspected that there was more to it because that was the way his mind worked. He would just have to decide if it was worth pursuing.

"Jaina, I'm sorry about the other day," he said as he turned her to face him.

He paused then ever so slightly but Jaina knew he was fixing to say something profound. "I was never taught...it was expected that you would not show emotion, or at least only when it was beneficial to the cause… to the whole. You put the Ascendancy first, above all else including family. You don't allow yourself to feel pain or despair you send it away... you kill it...you control it, not the other way around.

Very different from the Yuuzhan Vong who embrace it or your own Jedi upbringing where your taught to accept it and have no reaction to it. I...somewhere along the way I put you above it all Jaina. I allowed the pain you've caused me to create a rage in me. I'm trying to learn to control it. Do you understand?"

She looked at him then, noticing the sorrow on his face and she knew that she was responsible for much of it. But she was also responsible for the joy that she saw in his eyes when he looked at her. Maybe that’s what her uncle had meant by people who love each other hurting each other.

"Yes, I understand Jag. You had a right to those feelings but you need to know that you hurt no worse than I do. You're my rock Jag, my harbor in the tempest you always have been and you always will be. I'm truly sorry for the pain I've caused you. It was never my intent, even if that doesn't change anything."

He placed his forehead against hers, "It's forgotten. We shall start new Jaina...a new life of our own even if it can never be completely our own."

She rubbed her nose against his and said, "It sounds perfect."

"Will you marry me?"

She looked into his eyes. This time she allowed love to govern her answer not duty. "Yes," she said, "I will."

See, nagging gets results! Kick, I can only imagine the racket in your basement right now....Tell those boys to pipe down, cause you have one mother-wicked book to be reading!

INVINCIBLE RULES!!!!!!

Ahem... blush sorry about that. I'm still composing my review for Lit...but I just re-read it, so I'm on fire right now.

Anyways...hey looky...a post!

Love the introspection from both Jaina and Jag here. Very authentic.

Brava, Kick'ika.

I loved how she did the normal things with Allana. That was so sweet and probably just what she needed.

Ah. The voice of reason. Enter, Luke Skywalker!

"I doubt that, Jaina. I think he just needs some time and that’s understandable. He sat by your bedside nearly unmoving for over a month, if that’s not love and devotion I've never seen it."

Amen! Can I get a witness!?

She didn’t wait for an answer, “it was me who gave the final blow wasn’t it?” But Jaina didn't need an answer she knew.

Luke Skywalker looked at his niece, his emotions showing nothing in the Force, “Jaina I want you to promise me something. I want you to let it go…all of it. I want you to go with Jag and build your own life and leave the tragedies and pain behind you and serve the Force well. You have a destiny Jaina, and it will take you away from the Jedi Orderj.

OMG I was practically bawling! Thank God Jake was asleep, he would have been freaking out.

Loved Leia's gentle castising of Jag. love

Now he got it.

He finally understood her.

Hallelujah! angel

“I love you…I always will,” he said as he buried his face in her long dark hair and closed his eyes finally finding rest.

Welcome to reality Captain Obvious.

Bad dream! Bad! shame_on_you

So she would resort to the second phase. Gently she began to tickle him directly under his arms and around his navel. Jag was very ticklish and she was probably the only person in the galaxy who knew that. She didn't have to wait long for the results.

"Stop it Jay."

"Awe, you're awake."

Love it! So sweet!

He turned, smiled at her, winked and then turned back around. She started to giggle at him as he turned around again. This time he held out his hand "Watch the dawn with me?"

love love

"Will you marry me?"

She looked into his eyes. This time she allowed love to govern her answer not duty. "Yes," she said, "I will."

Yeah baby!

Awesome Job Piper! I so wish this was canon!
