RE: The Lands of the Dead (Post-NJO AU: Anakin Solo, Jacen, Jaina, L/M, H/L, many more) Updated 7/4/
Congrats on the noms, old buddy - well deserved.
The Chief of State saw his face on one of the thousands of tiny vid screens arrayed around the dais and in each Senate box, receiving feeds from the traveling hovercams, and he almost didn't recognize himself. In just seven months in office, his silver hair was turning as snowy as Admiral Kre'fey and his ashen flesh was lined with deep creases and Yuuzhan Vong-like purple bags beneath his eyes. The once handsome face of a starfighter pilot, of a war hero and prominent politician, was sunken and grave and totally alien to the Commenor native.
Someone needs botox.
(Where's an ooglith masquer when you need one?)
Personally I'm glad he looks like death warmed up. Serves the blighter right.
I hope he gets an ulcer, too.
I enjoyed the backstory on Rodan.
Afterwards, the Jedi fled into the Unknown Regions where the Chiss Ascendancy was actively aiding them and thwarting all of the Alliance's attempts to bring the cult to justice, while Rodan was left to pick up the broken pieces they'd left behind.
Yeah - life sucks eh?
I can understand why he blames his brother - but he still had free will, and he made bad choices.
Great confrontation scene in the Senate, and good on Bel Iblis for coming to Wedge's aid.
"The honorable Triebakk of Kashyyyk wishes to suspend this hearing and utilize the opportunity we have with a full Senate and the Chief of State present to confer over the root of these problems rather than arguing endlessly over one of the branches."
Hee hee - love that arborial tinge to his speech.
The Chief of State found himself wishing Jacen Solo was still on Denon, as the one good thing that had come about from his appointment was the space it provided Rodan from such criticisms.
Aha - so Jacen is useful for something still.
"Predictable," Rodan muttered, not realizing his mic was on and drawing a chorus of laughter from hundreds of Senators.
At least that would help him on the evening HoloNet broadcasts.
Aie. My hate is strong for that one.
omehow, Fyor Rodan felt even more dead.
Well, to quote Nelson from The Simpsons - Ha ha.
I like the "dead" motif you have running through that post - and the others, too, with Anakin also being "dead" inside emotionally. Very cool.
Great chapter full of manipulation and counter-manipulation.

Rodan... ... ... How can you
not
want to kill yourself? Oh well, maybe next time.
I can just see it now: Malig or one of his interrogators killing Rodan, thus ending the reign of stupidity in the Senate.

Karen?
Okay, that was mean, sorry I just couldn't resist.
If I was Karen, I would be going on and on about the Mandos.
Yeah, I recognized it. I still have nightmares over that book.
Curiously, my younger brother can't wait to read Revelations.
Perhaps The quote is from Rebirth. It does seem appropriate in light of the little Jedi Council planning session in Invincible.
It does indeed.
The roaring chorus of displeasure echoed within the Senate Rotunda as the galaxy's most revered beings were reduced to the snarls and bickering of children and the frenzy drowned out those loudest on the floor. It was a clamor like no other in the galaxy. A thousand different species from a thousand different worlds screamed, clapped, whistled, stomped, clacked mandibles, whipped tendrils, fluttered wings, and trumpeted from their snouts in a cacophonous rumble that Fyor Rodan could feel in his bones.
So....everthing is normal, yes?
"You insult us with this charade!"
"Trust me, that's not the way I insult you. There was nothing peculiar about what was transpiring at Centerpoint that day except the threat of Alliance involvement."
Trust me pal, if Wedge wanted to insult you, he would. Too bad you're not worth the effort.
"Enough already!"
Rodan's gaze shifted to the gruff voice only to see Alliance General Garm Bel Iblis grab the hovercam above Antilles in one hand and slam it down on the table in front of him so its mic would amplify his voice.
"General Bel Iblis—"
"Yeah, yeah, I know, it's not my turn to talk," the elderly general mocked Kogg. "Don't worry; this will only take a minute."
Garm Bel Iblis!
I think I have a picture of him....ah
"As soon as this hearing is over today, I plan to submit my resignation from the Galactic Alliance Military," Bel Iblis began, his squinting eyes a maze of wrinkles and his mane of white hair brushed straight back from his face. "I worked too hard in my life to defeat an empire to watch the government I helped establish in its wake become the very thing so many good beings died to remove."
Ok, maybe that one isn't quite right for this
. But this one is...
"Thirdly, the Great Triebakk implores you to give the Jedi prisoners a fair trial rather than holding them without end. Certainly, the Chief of State's executive powers, even in a time of war, do not extend that far."
Yeah, didn't the Supreme Court rule on that a few weeks ago...oh wait wrong Galaxy. My bad.
"I second Senator Triebakk's requests," she declared in her small voice, her floppy snout twitching with earnestness.
"Predictable," Rodan muttered, not realizing his mic was on and drawing a chorus of laughter from hundreds of Senators.
At least that would help him on the evening HoloNet broadcasts.
Oh how we love to take pleasure in your misery, Mr Rodan.
"Just relax, sir," the soldier replied. "There's someone who wants to see you."
When his security droids did not spring into action, Rodan knew that they had been reprogrammed at some point, and like everything else, they now served a new master.
It was the Way of the Sith.
Somehow, Fyor Rodan felt even more dead.
Oh don't worry about it. Malig can make you feel more alive, just ask that one nerf from the prologue.

Oh, *finally*. ^^ At last, at least part of the senate is noticing what is happening. And a big hooray for Garm Bel Iblis, who expressed very exactly what I was hoping to hear from the old guard leadership.
Great chapter.
Also, I´m anxiously checking my PM box, but it still is empty.
I´ve got a viewing tip for a very good series as soon as I get something from you.

I love political intrigue! I found myself laughing out loud severel times during the Senate meetings.
Glad to hear you liked it. There's a lot of absurdity there, I guess.
I have to say, I think Rodan is probably your most complex character. I pited him and hated him in this chapter, sometimes at the same time.
Thanks. I like Rodan. He was a good man, a starfigher pilot and even though he disliked the Jedi, he was never for appeasing the Yuuzhan Vong during the war by surrendering the Jedi to them. But he was wrong by Luke and robbed of an office that probably should have been his and that made it easier for him to do the wrong thing when Faybol was holding his brother's life in the balance.
I still think at his core he's a good person who made a mistake when he wanted revenge and is now in way,
way
over his head.
When are we going to be seeing the posible insurrecion in the Senate led by Triebekk, Releqy A'kla, and Lorra Klorne? I've been wondering about that for awhile now and think they could have allies with Corellia.
We will find out what's going on with Triebakk, A'Kla and Kloren (if anything) in this story. I can't say when.
I just realized we have yet to see Malig in person yet. When will we be seeing Ben Linus anyway?
Very soon. And as this chapter implies, I doubt it will come as a surprise that the first time we see him will be from the PoV of Fyor Rodan
Thanks for reading and replying

Seems like Rodan is finally realizing just how much of a mistake he made. siding with the Sith is generally a very very bad idea. been a sith puppet is even worse.
Yeah, it was sinking in in Exodus but now he realizes he's even more boxed in. Seeing what happened to Habbas makes him realize there really is no turning back.

Nothing seems to age a person like coming into power. I know the phenomenon is pretty striking when looking at our presidents
Rodan has a lot of stress at the moment
I enjoyed the backstory on Rodan.
Thanks. It was mostly a rehash from stuff in Exodus but there's so much time between the last time that came up I do that kind of thing a lot.
Yeah - life sucks eh?
Yeah, poor him
I can understand why he blames his brother - but he still had free will, and he made bad choices.
Yeah, no personal responsibility, it's always someone else's fault...
He's a politician
Great confrontation scene in the Senate, and good on Bel Iblis for coming to Wedge's aid.
Thanks. I figured Bel Iblis wouldn't stand for this very long. He's still a rebel at heart.
Hee hee - love that arborial tinge to his speech.
It seemed appropriate

Yeah, to the villains he's quite useful

Yeah, what it means to be "dead" is going to be a big theme running throughout the story. It's all leading to something huge in the climax of the forth story, actually. The chapter 37 discussion between Jacen and Malig is loaded with important foreshadowing on that front...
Great chapter full of manipulation and counter-manipulation.
Thank you so much, I'm glad you liked it. And thanks for reading and replying

OK, so I finally got rid of my post-work headache enough to read the update now.
Enjoying the in-depth look at a bit more of the political process of the Galactic Alliance. I'm sure the civil war I've been predicting for years now will erupt soon, given the atmosphere and actions of the Corellian, Wookiee and Camaasi delegations. And good to see more of Bel Iblis. Doesn't that guy
ever
retire?
Rodan is obviously off to take a trip to see Malig (or maybe not, isn't Malig back in Raithian space? Just who
is
in charge while he's away?)
Is he in trouble, or perhaps in for a reward that he may not even like? Perhaps forced to arrest senators/military people that are dissenting? Certainly something for us to ponder over the next week (or more most likely 'cos you're an evil writer and will surely take us back to another scene
)
Anyway, great update. Look forward to Friday's

Yeah, with so much time passing between posts I sometimes need to summerize things as a reminder.
I was really worried for Wedge there! I still am! I could see his ulimate death coming.
It's possible he could be tried for treason and killed, but they seem a long way from that as they're still holding hearings about the events 6 months ago.

A good question if something were to happen to Rodan. Jacen seems a bit too obvious, especially after LotF.

Snake is voiced by
David Hayter
who's actually got quite an impressive body of work, and is a writer. He wrote the screenplays for the first two X-Men movies and is writing the Metal Gear movie. Plus he kind of looks a lot like Snake

That is a really great point. He really is a hypocrite.
As far as a nasty death... can't say. But I think Rodan has one of my favorite storylines in the series.
I think Wedge and the more... intelligent... senators do lead an insurrection.
Wedge isn't actually a senator. He was retired from military service until about a day before this business at Corellia. He joined the Corellian military and is testifying at the senate hearing.
I doubt even the Raithians could handle a war on two fronts, especially when its Thrawn and the Chiss on one side and Wedge and the Corellians on the other.
But that means the Jedi and their allies will have to fight a war on two fronts as well... and what shape will the galaxy be in when it's all over? Could be potentially disasterous...
Can't wait for more.
Thanks and thanks for reading and your reply

OK, so I finally got rid of my post-work headache enough to read the update now.
Glad you're feeling better
Enjoying the in-depth look at a bit more of the political process of the Galactic Alliance. I'm sure the civil war I've been predicting for years now will erupt soon, given the atmosphere and actions of the Corellian, Wookiee and Camaasi delegations.
You have been saying that since nearly the beginning, haven't you?
And good to see more of Bel Iblis. Doesn't that guy ever retire?
Nah, he just changes uniforms
How old is he, anyway?
Rodan is obviously off to take a trip to see Malig (or maybe not, isn't Malig back in Raithian space? Just who is in charge while he's away?)
Faybol is gone, we're not sure where Malig is yet, but my money's on Denon.
Is he in trouble, or perhaps in for a reward that he may not even like? Perhaps forced to arrest senators/military people that are dissenting?
We'll talk about this in a few weeks, but this is a very good guess
Certainly something for us to ponder over the next week (or more most likely 'cos you're an evil writer and will surely take us back to another scene )
Yeah, you got me
Will be 2 or 3 posts before we check back in with Fyor.
Anyway, great update. Look forward to Friday's
Thanks, and thanks for reading and replying
New post on Friday with lots of stuff. We'll see Jag curising around in his new starfighter, check in with Han again and see how he and Lando are doing, and get the POV of a character we have not had all seriees, but will be getting throughout this fic. Also, we'll see Thrawn

Ah, we finally see the blue man himself!
I'm guessing the character we haven't seen a POV from yet would be
Callista
