Title: "In A Different Light"
Author: Kick O'Shannessey
Timeframe: 137 aby
Characters: Roan and Marasiah Fel, Antares Draco, Ganner Krieg, Sigel Dare and...Cade Skywalker
Genre: Drama, Romance
Disclaimer: Star Wars belongs to Mr. George Lucas. This is just one fan playing in the sandbox that has always brought her immense joy.
</Kick Notes> This 'fic is Canon compliant with the Legacy comics. There are heavy spoilers for Legacy 6 - 25 detailed here. So for those who have not read them and want to remain unspoiled you probably don't want to continue. But for those who may not be familar with this timeframe or characters, but do want to read, I will post a prelude to each chapter with text taken directly from the comics themselves to introduce the chapter. Savvy? If you have any questions please just feel free to ask. It will probably be five chapters in length, maybe six.
Special thanks to Queen bbbaaaddd Mama Tahi for the Beta. You only make me better.
Also thanks to Lex and Jedi Trace for the encouragement.
For Sean... Happy 35th, My Love...
Prelude Chapter I: TAKEN FROM LEGACY VI & VII, BY JOHN OSTRANDER
Bastion, 137 aby
EMPEROR ROAN FEL: IT'S ME KRAYT WANTS. THIS IS A TRAP AND SIA IS BAIT. THERE WILL BE NO RESCUE MISSION, DRACO.
MASTER ANTARES DRACO: BUT...MASTER?! THIS IS YOUR DAUGHTER!
EMPEROR FEL: I KNOW WHO SHE IS! I LOVE MY DAUGHTER, BUT THE FATE OF THE EMPIRE---OF THE GALAXY---IS AT STAKE! NOT ALL OF THE TROOPS LOYAL TO US HAVE MADE THEIR WAY HERE YET. KRAYT CANNOT BE ALLOWED TO KNOW WE HAVE TAKEN BASTION--NOT YET!
ANTARES: YOU KNOW THAT I WOULD DIE BEFORE GIVING THE SITH YOUR LOCATION--
EMPEROR FEL: NO RESUCE! MY WORD IS FINAL!
MASTER GANNER KRIEG: ANTARES...I'M SORRY. I'M WITH YOU, BUT WE HAVE SWORN AN OATH OF LOYALTY -- AND THE EMPEROR HAS SPOKEN.
ANTARES: I KNOW, GANNER, BUT...IS LOYALTY ALWAYS THE SAME AS OBEDIENCE?
Shortly thereafter: Antares Draco has disobeyed orders and went after Marasiah Fel on the jungle planet of Vendexa.
PRINCESS MARASIAH FEL: ANTARES, YOU'RE AN IDIOT! YOU COMING HERE HAS JUST GOTTEN US BOTH KILLED!
ANTARES: NOT BY THESE THREE.
MARASIAH: I KNOW MY FATHER, HE DIDN'T SEND YOU ON THIS MISSION.
GANNER: ACTUALLY, HE FORBADE IT.
SIA: WONDERFUL. YOU'D BETTER HOPE THESE SITH KILL YOU, ANTARES, SO YOU WON'T HAVE TO FACE MY FATHER'S ANGER. WHAT WERE YOU THINKING.
ANTARES: THAT THE PERSON I CARE ABOUT MORE THAN MY VOWS AS A KNIGHT, THAN MY FEALTY TO YOUR FATHER, THAN MY LOYALTY TO THE EMPIRE, WAS IN DANGER. I WAS THINKING OF YOU. I LOVE YOU, SIA.
SIA: I KNOW.
Shortly thereafter:Cade Skywalkers ship the Mynock in route to Bastion. Marasiah Fel lays dying from an injury otained in battle against the Sith while saving the life of Cade Skywalker.
CADE SKYWALKER: WEREN'T YOU LISTENING, WOLF? DON'T YOU GET IT? SIA IS THE ONE YOU'VE BEEN LOOKING FOR, NOT ME! SHE'S THE SYMBOL TO RALLY BOTH JEDI AND KNIGHTS! SHE'S THE ONE WITH THE VISION TO UNITE EVERYONE AGAINST THE SITH. WHO ARE THEY ALL MORE LIKELY TO FOLLOW--SOMEONE LIKE HER OR SOMEONE LIKE ME?
JEDI MASTER WOLF SAZEN: CADE, YOUR HEALING DOESN'T HAVE TO TOUCH THE DARK SIDE! YOU CAN BE TRAINED...
CADE: AND SIA WILL BE DEAD!! HOW DO YOU KNOW I'M NOT MEANT TO TAKE LIFE BACK FROM DEATH BY TOUCHING THE DARK SADE? DO YOU THINK THAT MAKES ME A MONSTER? WILL YOU AND SHADO STRIKE ME DOWN FOR SAVING A LIFE?! THEN DO IT BECAUSE I'M GOING AHEAD!
WOLF: I WILL NOT STOP YOU, CADE. I CANNOT. PERHAPS THIS IS YOUR DESTINY. BUT DOING IT BECAUSE YOU CAN IS NOT ENOUGH REASON.
CADE: THEN LET'S JUST SAY I'M DOING IT BECAUSE SHE SAVED MY LIFE. NO ONE DIES FOR ME! NEVER AGAIN!
"That's not it." Jag's eyes focused past the floor, to some distant place and time. "Years ago, I thought I could see my future in her eyes. My future, maybe even the future of my line, my name.

Chapter I: Roan Fels Badassery Knows No Bounds
Bastion, 137 aby
Roan Fel looked at his only child sleeping peacefully in her bed. She was finally safe and secure back on Bastion where he could protect her. Her rescue had not come without a price for sure. Roan closed his eyes remembering all too well the events of the last several days.
He had been willing to sacrifice her life to maintain his strategic position of surprise here on Bastion. However Antares Draco blinded by his burning unashamed love for Marasiah had defied his orders and gone after her on Vendexa.
He frowned; the decision to allow Sia to die had been much easier when he hadn’t been looking at her. That was the way it had always been in Roans bloodline, you sacrifice your loved ones and everything you hold dear in the name of the greater good…in the name of duty. Roan had not thought himself any different than his ancestors and had been prepared to allow the Sith to have Sia.
He was furious with Draco over the rescue mission because now Krayt would undoubtedly trace them back here to Bastion, but somehow he knew that Antares had done the right thing. It’s what a younger Roan Fel would have done back when he didn’t have the burdens and responsibilities on him that he did now.
He continued to frown as he ran his hands through his daughter’s hair. He would deal with Draco and Krieg later after his daughter woke up and he spoke with her.
Then he actually smiled as he ran his hand over her forehead and long dark hair. Roan wasn’t much for smiling these days and hadn’t been in a long time. He thought back to when he had been Sia’s age and raced his claw craft though space. When he was a very small child he would sit on his grandfather’s lap while they flew for hours with Roan listening intently to his every instruction.
He could have given a kriff less what his own father thought of him, but his grandfather had been different. Roan had lived for his approval and strived to please him in every way possible.
He had lived with his grandparents most of his childhood because his parents had been unable to cope with the screaming fits that would come when Roan was taken from his grandfather for long periods of time. And that was the burden and heartbreak that drove Roan Fel. The fact that he had lost everything that his grandfather had fought and ultimately died for.
And that made Roan…angry.
Just the thought of it made his blood pressure rise and the hate swell within him. He stopped those thoughts and exhaled. He would not follow in the footsteps of Vader or Caedus because if there was anything that Roan Fel hated it was Sith. And the thought of him becoming one would have driven his grandmother to tears, and he would not be a complete disappointment to both his grandparents.
Roan produced a lopsided grin on his face. No, he would not fall to the dark side but there would be no mistake, he was going back to Coruscant and he was going to bring hell with him; if it was the last thing he did. He would make Darth Krayt pay for every atrocity he had committed against his throne and the galaxy as a whole.
His grandfather had brought peace and prosperity to the Empire and the galaxy as a whole. Most people would say that his victory without war campaign and his Imperial Mission were his greatest contribution to history but Roan knew better. His grandparent’s greatest legacy was the young woman who slept peacefully in front of his eyes.
Marasiah Fel was the picture of everything perfect and pure. She had integrity, beauty and a limitless selflessness that rivaled Amadala herself.
Roan would find it hard to believe that he could have ever produced anything so pure but she was undoubtedly his. She was a lot like him, she was driven, hopeful and duty bound. But she was so much better than him.
He was often amazed at her willingness to put everyone and everything else above herself and her desire to right every wrong in the galaxy, alone if necessary, actually scared Roan. She was foolishly idealistic and that tended to lead to an early death especially in their bloodline.
Finally he had enough of her sleeping and became impatient. Closing his eyes and picturing her awake in his mind, he gently nudged Sia through their Force bond. And then the beautiful electric brandy-brown eyes of Marasiah Fel fluttered open. She just laid there for a moment without moving her head and observing her every surrounding. Finally she turned and looked at her father, “Hello.”
“Hello yourself,” Roan said and then grinned the family’s famous grin, “I thought I’d lost you kid, but you look as fit as a gun-dark. I was afraid I might have to go out and get a girlfriend so I’d have someone to give your mothers jewelry to.”
Sia snorted, “No one would have you, you’re too cantankerous and always have to have the last word.”
The Emperor rubbed his chin, “I can see that yes.” He winked at her, “how you feeling?” You look pretty good to have had a lightsaber rammed through your gut. Not that I’m surprised at your resiliency, you are a Fel after all. I guess it’s safe to go ahead and plan the celebration of your twentieth life day next week.” Roan said it jokingly but he knew that given the wound she had sustained, Sia should be dead. In fact if it wasn’t for Cade Skywalker’s immortal healing powers she would be.
“How do I look Dad - and be honest.”
He gently cupped her chin and turned her face to look at him, “you look beautiful Sia and I’m so glad you’re okay. You have no idea how worried I was.”
“I know,” she said as she squeezed her father’s hand. “How are Antares, Cade and the other’s?”
That was Sia Roan thought to himself, thinking of everyone else when she had nearly met death just hours before hand. He grunted, “Draco is on my shavit list for the foreseeable future and I haven’t completely ruled out beheading him with my lightsaber, the Jedi refuse to make an alliance with me because of Ossus… and Skywalker…Skywalker is a nuisance and I’m going to have him detained.”
“You’re what!?” Sia shouted. Despite her incredibly sore abdomen Marasiah shot straight up in bed and turned a pain filled face towards her father, “why are you going to detain Cade Skywalker after he saved your daughter’s life may I ask. I mean I must have heard you wrong because that would not be a very nice thing to do Dad.”
“Whoever said I was a nice guy.”
“Certainly not me for sure,” Sia said sharply her eyes blazing with disappointment and annoyance. “You have no legal grounds to hold him. He hasn’t done anything illegal that you can prove.”
“I’m the Emperor and I can do what I want.”
“Dad!”
“He’s a loose power house of an ion-canon Sia. If Krayt were to learn of his power and turn him he could cripple us I have no doubt. I knew Kol had a son but I thought he had died at Ossus along with his father. ”
Sia’s mouth dropped open, “What might be is not grounds to arrest someone and you know it. And let’s not talk about Cade; we all come from the same place way back you know.” I can’t believe you’d do this to family.”
Roan raised his eyebrow and shot a questioning look at his daughter.
“Oh, alright I can believe that you would do this to family, but that still doesn’t make it right.”
“Sia he’s a drug addict, I’ll get him help here on Bastion, I’d be doing him a favor.” He grinned, "and family does for family after all."
Sia shook her head she knew her father’s methods of operations all too well, “No, what you really want to do is recruit him to help you kill Krayt because Cade has unimaginable Force power and we both know it.”
“Now Marasiah I’m surprised that you would think such a thing of me.”
“No you’re not and you know that I’m right.”
“Either way,” the Emperor continued, Skywalker is entirely too dangerous to himself and every other poor galactic sentiment to just roam the galaxy unsupervised. It will be better for everyone if he is safe here on Bastion.”
"Dad you can’t just impose your will. Cade isn’t so bad off that he can’t make his own decisions.”
“Irrelevant," Roan said coolly.
Marasiah took a deep breath and prepared to play her final card if this would not change her father’s mind she knew that she’d be forced to bust Cade out of detention in the middle of the night. She paused and then spoke softly, “If you do this you’ll be no better than Krayt and you will dishonor your Grandfather…he would not have approved.”
The expression on Roans face went from half-amused to half-angry in about a second flat, “Don’t you tell me what the Emperor would have wanted. He would have wanted me and you to survive and live and produce what he fought for. And besides he was never in my place, he didn’t have a damn legion of Sith hunting and trying to kill him.”
Roan’s voice was rising now, “A legion of Sith who have destroyed and degraded everything in their kriffing path and I was unable to stop them before they took everything that he lived for. So don’t say my grandfather would have disapproved of me Marasiah…because don’t you think that I don’t already know it!”
Sia smiled gently to defuse the situation as she always did when she knew her victory was imminent. “I know Dad,” she said, “that’s why we have to be better than them. You have to let Cade go and trust the will of the Force.”
The Emperor inhaled and then exhaled, resolution coming over his face. This was always the case when Marasiah won an argument with him which was becoming more and more frequently. “I have a feeling that I’m going to regret this. You’re as difficult as your mother Sia.”
“Maybe so Dad, but you’re doing the right thing,” Sia said as she once again squeezed her father’s hand. “On another note, the Mission on Socorro was lost. The Sith set it on fire, and I was powerless to stop it, as I’m sure you know Knight Vetter sacrificed her life for mine. I will compose a personal note to her family and would like you to do the same. I am so sorry for the loss of your Mission Your Majesty.” The words felt raw as they left her mouth.
Elke had been her friend and her teacher. When they were younger Sia had sometimes felt envious of Elke because she had captured Antares' attention back then, however the two women had become as sisters as Sia made steps towards completely her training as an Imperial Knight.
Roan shook his head. He knew how devoted Sia was to the mission. Like his great-grandmother it had become his daughter’s life work. For all practical purposes the Princess was a missionary.
Sia had always devoted herself to her Force spirituality, her studies and the mission from the time she was a small child. She had never been distracted by the glare of her fame and power and had always lived a quiet simple life totally devoted to her work and Roan knew that his daughter was the finest spirits he would ever have the privilege of knowing.
“The Mission is not your fault Sia; it’s just another thing that I will make Krayt pay for.” He got up and kissed his daughters forehead. “Get some rest, you and I will have dinner tonight. Tomorrow after I finish with Krieg and Draco there will be an medal ceremony.”
“Speaking of which, Daddy if you behead or in any other way cause Antares bodily harm I will never speak to you again.”
Roan smirked and tapped the hilt of his lightsaber, “Is that a promise?”
The Princess narrowed her eyes, “I’ll usurp you and start a civil war. I’m sure at least half of the 501st would follow me.”
The Emperor nodded, “that’s my girl. Just like trained you, now rest easy before dinner tonight. And tomorrow I will expect you on my arm in formal white attire and in the grand ball room for the ceremony at 19:00 sharp."
"Yes Your Majesty."
Roan turned taking a few steps towards the door and then stopped. “Oh yes, before I forget, speaking of Master Draco what is this I hear about a profession of love Your Highness?”
It was everything Sia could do to keep her mouth from dropping and she knew that her father must have felt her emotional reaction of uncertainty, excitement and awe roll off of her in the Force.
Master Antares Draco was the leader of her father’s Imperial Knights. He was an incredibly powerful Force user and devoted his life to the Fel family and the Empire. The two of them had grown up together and Sia would admit that she had had a crush on him since she had been old enough to feel such things.
But while growing up and even into young adulthood, Antares had always looked on her as a child and seen her in the light of the nothing more or less than the Emperor’s daughter.
He had always kept a lot of girlfriends and never seemed to notice Sia, so she had devoted her life to the Mission and her other charity work and studies. She had never returned the interest of any of the young hopeful men that looked her way, she figured she’d just compare them all to Antares and that wouldn’t be fair to them.
And as a result the beautiful Marasiah Fel had never even had a real boyfriend…much less a lover until recently when Antares Draco had finally seen her in a different light and they had become lovers for one night before Sia's ill-fated trip to Socorro.
Sia looked down at her hands which rested gently in her lap and softly spoke, “It was heavily exaggerated Your Majesty. I’m sure Master Draco was just caught up in the moment. Everyone knows that he’s always looked on me as a child. I’m sure he has much more interesting options than a half-trained Missionary that he is forced to disobey Your Majesty's orders over and risk his life to save.”
The Emperor turned back around and once again started towards the door, "make sure your on time for dinner. I'll see you then."
"I love you dad."
"I love you to Sia, more than you know."
After her father closed the door and Sia was sure he wasn't listening to her thoughts through their bond she allowed herself to think of Antares and everything that had happened between them. She closed her eyes and meditated for a moment. Finally she called for one of her handmaidens who quickly rushed into the room.
"Yes Your Highness."
"Olivia how many times must I ask for you to call me Sia?" The young girl smiled and blushed at the Princess. "Yes Ma'am."
"Well, you can prepare my formal white attire, I believe there is to be a ceremony for Antares and Ganner tomorrow."
"Yes Sia I'll prepare it."
"Thank you."
Sia got out of bed and began to prepare for the evening. She sat in front of her golden mirror and for the first time really thought about how close she had been to death when Antares had carried her in his arms to the Mynock.
She would never understand what Cade had done to save her life. She only knew that it was beyond any power she had ever seen even from her father. And she knew that she had been right to insist that her father allow him to go free.
And she also knew the consequences Antares would face from her father for coming after her and once again really wished that he hadn't.
Marasiah did not fear death and she would have rather faced it than cause Antares' relationship with her father permanent damage.
And she of all people knew how Roan could be.
The Imperial Knights and the Empire needed Draco where he was and she didn't want that jeopardized. She thought of the day to come tomorrow and shook her head. She pushed thoughts of Antares away because she would only start to miss him and she knew there was no way he could visit her now. He was undoubtedly still being debriefed and in meetings.
She took a deep breath and cleared her mind.
I love you Sia, she heard Antares' voice say to her through the Force as his presence filled her heart.
She smiled and reached back through their bond and spoke with her mind and heart, I know.

First and beat the PM!
First off...
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO SEAN!!! 35???? WOULD NEVER HAVE KNOWN IT!
Now that that's out of the way...
That, my dearest Kick'ika, was totally and completely wicked gnarly awesome.
Loved the excerpts
Adored the father/daughter dynamic between Roan and Sia. I'm hoping we see more of this in Legacy at some point. I wonder how long has Roan been a single father...
Oh, and if Roan knew just what had happened between HIH and Draco, I'm pretty sure that Antares's immediate excution would be the event at 1900, not dinner.
And for Sia sticking up for Cade. Besides Roan, he may just be the closest family she's got.
Lovely all around and can't wait for more!

Awesome!

damn; beaten
I was just about to go to sleep when I clicked on this forum and what do I see? Another Kick post!
Awesome job! You really got the characters down pat. I loved Sia's loving snarkiness towards her father and her thoughts on her and Antares. I'm assuming her grandfather was Jag and her great grandmother Jaina. I really hope you continue this fic and loved Roan's thoughts about his original orders to not attempt a rescue mission for Marashiah, though what was his deal with his father?

Congrats on getting this started!
Also thanks to Lex and Jedi Trace for the encouragement.
Girl, you know you only had to mention a Legacy fic and the Ass O' Cade™ signal would appear in the sky.
Seriously, though, I think this is the first Fel-centric fic I've seen for the Legacy era. Or the first multi-poster. You're a pioneer!
The Princess narrowed her eyes, “I’ll usurp you and start a civil war. I’m sure at least half of the 501st would follow me.”
The Emperor nodded, “that’s my girl.
Nice exchange, there.
Looking forward to more! And don't forget to post the fic info in the Legacy fanfic Index.

Ah goody, you've posted it. I haven't read the Legacy comics, but I like the focus here. It's nice to see something a bit different.
Sia is a spirited wee thing, eh? Certainly she's like Amidala.
I enjoyed the male banter as usual. Good stuff. I also liked the echo of Han and Leia there at the end.
Happy birthday to Sean. Just a spring chicken.

*nods* John is awesome.
canadianjedimama posted: Adored the father/daughter dynamic between Roan and Sia. I'm hoping we see more of this in Legacy at some point. I wonder how long has Roan been a single father...
Yeah I hope to get a scene with Ro and Sia together in canon soon. . So far we haven't seen that.
On Roan being a single dad? I don't know, the Legacy team has said nothing about it. But I sense that there's a story there. Maybe it was like some great life altering romance and she died or he lost her for whatever reason... I bet Ro was hawt, hawt, hawt when he was young. No he's like one of those middle aged men that are just hawt...you know Robert Redford or........Harrison Ford. He pretty much looks like Harrison with darker hair and a little Jag Fel thrown into the mix.
canadianjedimama posted: Oh, and if Roan knew just what had happened between HIH and Draco, I'm pretty sure that Antares's immediate excution would be the event at 1900, not dinner.
For sure. Let's hope Sia and 'Tares are good at shielding their thoughts.
We always get to see Cade and Blue shackin' up...I want some Sia and 'Tares darn it!
But Sia is a completely different 'type' woman than Blue, which might be why John hasn't gone there. Not that I don't adore Blue...but you know what I mean.
Not to mention the differences between Antares and Cade.
But, the indication is pretty clear that Antares and Sia have been intimate, and that Draco is conflicted over it because of the Roan situation. But he is obviously very in love with Marasiah.
And isn't Antares just a freaking sweet name. That name is automatic...'yeah, I'll at least go out with you.'
canadianjedimama posted: And for Sia sticking up for Cade. Besides Roan, he may just be the closest family she's got.
Maybe...maybe not. Do you want me to send you a PM on that subject?
And, yeah, Sia is a jewel. I don't really see how any reasonable person could say otherwise.
canadianjedimama posted: Lovely all around and can't wait for more!
Thanks Cyn. I'll post tomorrow night or Saturday.

I'm a major Sia/Antares 'shipper. Second only to Jaina and Jag. I really like the dynamic between those two. I think it has the potential to be a very, very powerful love story. The Knight and the Princess? Come on...
And I love the Legacy comics more than I can say, however, I'd really like to see novels set in this era and soon.
But DR better not freaking kill Sia or 'Tares..
PointGiven posted:
I'm assuming her grandfather was Jag and her great grandmother Jaina.
Sia? If things go as all indications dictate that they will, Jag and Jaina are Marasiah Fels great-grandparents and Roans grandparents. When I mentioned great-grandmother in the chapter I was referring to Leia.
PointGiven posted: I really hope you continue this fic
There's more. It's twenty pages in MS Word right now. And I still have a chapter or two yet to write. I'll pprroobbaabbllyy end it with Cade. But all other chapters are the Fels, Antares and Ganner.
PointGiven posted: and loved Roan's thoughts about his original orders to not attempt a rescue mission for Marashiah,
*nods* It's a tough thing, but he made the only decision that he could make. And we've seen that decision time and again in that family.
PointGiven posted: though what was his deal with his father?
Hhhhmmm. That was just my imagination as a writer, I suppose. The main thing I was trying to show was Roans closeness with Jag. I always try to feel out why a character thinks and acts the way they do. But nothing has been said in canon on the subject, that was just my expressions.
Thank you for reading PG.

You know she would have helped Cade escape too! She is Jaina all over again. I love how she played the grandfather (we know
she means Grandpa Jag ) card here!!
Yes, I have no doubt Marasiah would have busted Cade out if she thought it was the right thing to do.
And, yes, Jag is Roans grandfather.

You know I want to switch to that icon so, so, so badly. But I jjjuusstt can't quite make myself leave Sia...I just can't.
We need to be able to have two icons.
I'd switch for "Cade Day," though. We need a Cade Day.

Woohoo! We definitely need more Legacy stories on the boards.
Roan's internal monologue was interesting, particularly the differences he sees between himself and Sia. I almost get the sense he thinks Sia is a better person than he is. But he's still the Emperor so it's still his call.
Interesting speculation on the relationships between Roan and his father and grandfather. We can certainly see a lot of Jag's influence on Roan.
The concept of Roan looking for a girlfriend is hilarious. Imagine the pickup lines he could use! "Hey, baby, I'm not just the Emperor, I'm an Imperial Knight, too!"
Yikes!
and I haven’t completely ruled out beheading him with my lightsaber
