Legacy Of Love - An NJO AU w/ all favourites. Ch. 05 02/08/08 - A/N 11/10

This is a story that's been playing in the back of my mind for quite some time, so I decided to let it out to play. Normally I would have a lot more written before I start posting it, but if I wait I don't think I'll EVER get it on the boards. So for all the waiting I will no doubt be putting you through, you have my apologies up front. I'm hopeful that posting will kick my muse into gear.
That, and I'm a total feedback ho. 
Oh, and a PM list will be kept, so anyone who wants in, just let me know.

<0:04> We see the Myrkr strike team, battling with Yuuzhan Vong.

<0:13> Close up of Tahiri and Anakin. As she pulls away from him, we hear her voice: “No. For that you have to come back.”
<0:22> We know their legacy
<0:26> Slow motion footage of Anakin’s funeral. Many faces are seen through the smoke.
<0:37> But what if what we thought we knew…
<0:43> …never happened?
<0:47> We see Jacen spin and drop down on one knee, his arms out parallel to the floor. In his right hand is a lit lightsaber.
“I should have known it would be you. I should have at least suspected it!”
The camera pulls back and we see the edge of a black floor length cloak. The camera moves up until we see a black gloved hand emerging from the sleeve, and a voice speaks.
“Yes. You should have.”
A button is pressed, the lightsaber springs to life. The black robed figure moves toward him.
<1:03> Would different choices make things better…
<1:10> … or worse?
<1:13> Corran is shown standing next to a funeral bier, a lit torch in his hand.
“We are here today to mourn the passing of a person who has meant so much to so many.”
We see Wedge shaking hands with Jag.
“A leader.”
We see Han embracing Jaina.
“A father.”
We see Luke looking across a fire at Mara and smiling softly.
“A husband.”
We see Lando behind the controls of his ship, a grim look on his face.
“A friend.”
<1:40> It is said if you cannot recognise the person in the mirror, it is time to step back and see when you stopped being yourself.
<1:53> Music ends, replaced by sound of heavy breathing. We see a close up of the right side of Tahiri‘s face.
But what if going back…
Tahiri’s eye slowly closes, and the screen goes black. Breathing stops.
… means going too far?

An AU New Jedi Order story

Prologue
Tahiri shook her head as she sat there, contemplating what Jacen - what Caedus - said he wanted from her. Rising to her feet, she caught her reflection in the mirror out of the corner of her eye, and as she turned to face it she felt like she was looking into the eyes of a stranger. Gilad Pellaeon was an enemy leader and legitimate target, but this felt less like a military operation and more like a murder.
<Was this all it was about?> she asked herself. <Was this all we had fought the Yuuzhan Vong for? All that Anakin had died for? So that a decade later the galaxy could be tearing itself apart in another war, this time one that Anakin’s own brother had some responsibility for?> The fact that she couldn’t easily answer that question bothered her far more than she cared to admit to anyone except herself.
That was one reason she had come up with her own plans.
She couldn’t be sure what the result of her actions would be. At best, it was likely no one would ever know what she had done. At worst, well… she felt like the best part of her had died years ago anyway. Ten years ago, on a rock above the world she and Jacen now orbited in their shuttle, as their course was corrected to match the one they had followed so long ago. The vibrations from the engine reduced and after a few minutes ended completely as their craft landed on what was left of the Baanu Rass, and the comm in her quarters crackled to life.
“We’ve arrived.”
“Acknowledged.” She took one last look at the mirror, closing her eyes and letting out a sigh before turning and leaving the room.
<The time has most certainly arrived.>

Yay - you've started posting. No worries about being slow; you're speaking to the slowest of the slow.

Chapter One
Tahiri joined Jacen at the top of the boarding ramp and she placed her breather mask over her face as he spoke.
“Remember, I have to maintain concentration and contact if we’re to make it back to ‘now’, so don’t for any reason distract me or let go. Anything could result if you do. You could even find yourself stranded there and you wouldn‘t want that to happen, would you?” He reached out his hand to her with a grin that was part smug self assurance, part pitying condescension, and she had to fight the urge to Force-shove his face through a bulkhead or two.
“Now why would I want that?” she replied, smiling sweetly up at him as she curled her fingers around his and holding back the queasy sensations she felt from doing so. “It’s like I said to you, one last look back to prove I’ve finally put it behind me. Then I can take my rightful place in the galaxy you’re working to build.”
He nodded and led her out to the rocky surface of the world ship they had landed on, walking a short distance from their ship before stopping. He closed his eyes and began drawing on the Force, twisting it to his purposes, and Tahiri could feel it surge and crash around her like the stormy oceans of Chandrilla as Jacen flow-walked the pair back to the events a decade past. The spinning sensation passed as the fog around them lifted, and the pair of them looked down from the rise they stood on to survey the scene of the battle a short distance away. The emotions of the strike team roiled around them as they fought on with the Vong warriors around them, and there was a brief flash overhead as the Tachyon Flier leapt to hyperspace.
Jacen smirked. “Just in time.”
He took the lead and they made their way down the hill under cover of a shallow trough, emerging from behind a small pile of rocks near to where Anakin stood, telling Tahiri to aid Tekli in getting Tesar away to safety. Tahiri watched as her younger self reached up to Anakin’s face before turning away, and she silently mouthed the words in remembrance of the last words she had ever said to him.
“No - for that you have to come back.”
Waiting until the young Jedi went their separate ways before emerging from cover, Tahiri stood there watching in the direction Anakin had travelled alone, and Jacen regarded her with a contemptuous expression.
“So, any regrets?”
Tahiri took a deep breath and exhaled slowly, as if considering how best to respond. Without warning she lashed out with a vicious kick, catching Jacen’s left knee and pushing it sideways. At the same time she twisted her grip, forcing his left arm behind his back and feeling the bones in two of his fingers shatter. With a surge of power she propelled him away and his howl of pain faded as quickly as his physical form, carried away to whatever fate the Force had in store for him. She paused briefly as she looked at the spot where he had been standing.
“No, Jacen. No regrets at all.”
She made her way along Anakin’s trail and finally caught sight of him, his arm raised to hurl the last of his thermal detonators at his enemies. She could feel his presence beginning to flicker and fade, an almost musical sound building to a crescendo, and she all but flew to cover the remaining distance between them. Reaching out with every last bit of her strength in the Force and her love for him, she wrapped her presence around him and fought to hold his essence intact, to keep him safe.
<Not again. This time you get to come back for what you missed!>
“Tahiri?”
She realised in a heartbeat that somehow he was able to hear her voice, and she scrambled desperately to tell him what he needed to know as the galaxy’s song reached a peak and everything that existed seemed to turn pure white. Then, with a sudden snap, there was silence… and nothing…..

Days pass…

“I need some time alone.“
Without another word Jaina stalked from the bridge of the Vong vessel they had escaped in, leaving Zekk standing with the piloting hood in his hands, as she fought down the urge she had to impose her will on the others in her group and force them to join her in going after Jacen. As much as she may have wanted to bring him back, she could only make that decision for herself, not everyone else. Her sense of calm and clarity returned, and with it the realisation that she was in the rear of the ship, near to where Anakin’s body had been laid out, and she decided to go and see him one last time, while the time was available. She couldn’t be sure when, or even if, she’d get a better opportunity to say her goodbyes in private, with no one else around. As she made her way to the store room they had used though, she felt a surge of fear and panic ahead of her and heard someone scream. Feeling a burst of adrenaline burn away her fatigue, however briefly, she quickly turned the corner and found Tahiri sitting on the floor scrabbling backwards, sobbing and gasping for breath. She dropped to her knees on the floor beside her young friend.
“Tahiri, what is it? What’s going on? Answer me. Tahiri!” She gripped both sides of her face and forcibly turned Tahiri’s head to meet her gaze. “Tahiri, answer me!”
No response came from the small blonde girl, her only reaction gasping for breath as she shakily raised an arm and pointed at something behind Jaina. A shadow fell over the pair of them and as Jaina turned, her mouth fell open silently at the sight of what was in the doorway.
“So what’s going on?” Anakin said sleepily, rubbing a hand across his face. “Are we back at Coruscant already?”
