A brief silence was broken by a familiar voice with a slightly mocking tone. “Well, after a request like that, how could I say no?”
She grimaced. “Kyp?”
“Who else? Welcome back to Republic space.”
“Gee thanks. If I’d known it was you waiting for me, I would have stayed gone.”
LOL - enjoyed that bit.
Poor old Jaina having to juggle three guys' egos!! Eeeesh. One is bad enough.
In a moment of honesty with herself, though, she had to admit that he was an exceptional flier. Even with her Force enhanced abilities she had a tough job of keeping pace with him, and the list of pilots that she could say that about was very short indeed.
Not that she had any intention of telling Jag that any time soon.
Yep, you got it, sister. Got to keep him in line. I like the way she dealt with each of the guys differently. 
She grimaced. Certainly Tekli was certain it was Anakin they had, despite the blank spot he now represented in the Force, but if Jaina had learnt anything from her time with the Rogues, it was to never take anything at face value, however familiar the face might be.
She's right. But I worry about Anakin.
Enjoyed the post, bro'. What's the weather doing up there? We're having black ice and nasty stuff like that.

Hey peoples, just a quick heads up. The last chapter I posted was the last one I had pre-written, so there may be delays before the next part is ready. Rest assured though, I'll be working on it as best I can. Now, where were we...? 
Jade_eyes: You have the Jaina/Kyp/Jag dynamic perfectly. Totally in character and quite snarky which I adore!!! Is this gonna feature the loveship of J/J?
To be honest, I'm not too sure yet. I'm a fan of them myself, but I'll have to talk to them about it and see what they say. 
Kidan: I especially like that she's not sure what to make of the returned Anakin.
Yeah, it's an interesting balance. She certainly wants to believe it, but it remains to be seen if she'll allow herself to take the final steps.
Jag4Me: Hmm..I think Anakin could be a Vong imposter wearing a cloaker?
It would certainly explain things wouldn't it? 
Jag4Me: I love the tension between Jag and Jaina, we know what that leads to.
Late nights, smoking ciggaretes and raiding the fridge at three in the morning?

Great two chapters! I love how all the characters are in character. The story line is really great and I hope that Anakin isn't a Vong imposter and is just Anakin, but without the Force. Maybe the no Force thing has to do with Future Tahiri interfering with things. Hmmm.... Well, this story is going along great and I hope you'll update with more soon. :-)

Thanks mate, glad you're enjoying it. I've struggled a bit with this next chapter but finally got it finished, so here y'all go. Hopefully it won't be too long for the next one.

Chapter Four
The ship’s handling improved as they settled into the lower atmosphere, and the radio crackled to life as an incoming X-Wing grew larger in the forward viewport.
“Starsprite, this is Durron. Jaina, you still with us?”
“Right here, Kyp. What’s the situation?”
“They’re all ready for you down there.” his voice came back as he made a slow loop around her flight and settled in next to her vessel. “Prince Isolder heard of your encounter with some of the locals, so he’s secured a landing pad in the palace grounds for all of us. His personal guard are holding it for us, along with the… welcoming committee you requested.”
“Roger that. You take point, and we’ll follow your lead in.” <Just don’t get used to the idea.> Jaina thought to herself with a smirk, as she settled back into the pilot’s chair. It must have been quite a sight from the ground, she mused. The Hapan vessel she was on, still joined to the Vong craft they had used to escape from the worldship, being led by an X-Wing and flanked by Chiss fighters. <The way it needs to be if we want to beat the Vong.>
She followed his craft on a slow looping turn that took them over the outer grounds before coming back to settle on a landing pad to the west of the main residence, surrounded by a large group in the livery of the royal guards. The landing was gentle considering their circumstances, and she was quite happy to deactivate the main drive and open the cargo bay doors to allow the Hapan technicians access to the fighters on board before rising from the controls and making her way through the tunnel to the Trickster, where Tekli and Tahiri waited for her. She nodded as she approached.
“How’s our… patient?”
“Fully fit and ready to go, as near as I can tell.” Tekli replied. “Although given the blank space in the Force he now represents, what I can tell isn’t as much as I’d like.”
Jaina nodded. “I want you two to stay with him and keep an eye open until we’re ready to take him off the ship. I’ll get the others and bring them to him.” Turning, she made her way to the exit ramp where the other young Jedi Knights were disembarking from the vessel, and stopped when she found Zekk waiting for her. He placed a comforting hand on her shoulder and jerked his head towards the rear of the ship.
“Do you need some help with… things?”
She bit on her lip, not entirely sure she could trust her voice, when she saw an approaching group providing her with an easy path out. “You could say I’ve called ahead.”
Zekk turned to see Luke, Mara and Han heading towards them at a fast trot, with Leia a few steps ahead of them, and took a step back to provide her some space. “I’ll leave you to it, then. But if you do need someone…”
“You’ll be the first one I comm.” Jaina confirmed. “And Zekk… thank you.” He smiled back at her before leaving, and she turned to face her mother, only a handful of paces away with her arms spread wide. Her first reaction was to pull away, but she quickly realised after the events of the last couple of weeks the closeness was not only something she wanted but needed, even craved, and she gladly surrendered to her mother’s embrace. The two of them were quickly surrounded as Han, Luke and Mara joined them and Jaina luxuriated in each presence like a favoured comforting blanket. After a moment she stepped back to catch her breath and looked at each of the faces in turn, finally settling on her father who looked as if he’d aged a year or two in the short time since she’d seen him last. He smiled bravely and placed a hand on her shoulder.
“Welcome home, honey.”
“Thanks Dad, but we aren’t quite done yet.”
He nodded. “It isn’t much, but the freshers on the Falcon are all yours, and we should be able to find something that’ll fit you.”
“Later. Right now we need to talk. All of us, and I really mean need to.” The group exchanged quick glances between them before following Jaina’s lead back on board the Trickster and up to the control deck. Jaina spread her arms wide as she entered.
“It isn’t much, but we made do. I guess the Vong didn’t have comfort in mind when they designed her.” Jaina turned and leaned back against the main console, folding her arms across her chest as she gathered her thoughts.
“You made it back. That’s the main thing.” Leia nodded as if in response to a voice only she could hear. “And Jacen will as well. We just need to be strong for each other, and for him, and he’ll find his way back to us.”
Jaina swallowed hard. “Mom, I’d like to believe that too, but what we all felt…”
“He’s alive, Jaina.” Leia responded firmly. “I can’t say how I know, I just do. He’s still out there, and he’s going to need all of us together to bring him home, where he belongs.”
Jaina glanced at Luke for support and caught the slight, almost imperceptible shake of his head, his thoughts clear as if he’d spoken aloud. <Not now.> “What was it you needed to talk about?”
She took a deep breath. “After Anakin… fell, we split into two teams. Jacen went after the voxyn queen, that was how he got separated from the rest of us and cut off. The second team went with me to get Anakin’s body back, and we succeeded.”
Han’s face grew pale as her words suck in. <Anakin’s body. My baby boy. Just a body.> “You got him back?”
Jaina shrugged. “I thought we had. Now I’m not so sure. I want to be, but…”
Luke could sense the turmoil pouring off his niece. “What would cause you to have your doubts?”
“Because, twelve hours ago, Anakin… woke up.” She shifted her gaze across the faces in front of her as they came to realise just what she had said. “He walks, talks, looks and acts just like he used to, but he can’t be sensed through the Force. When we try to reach him, it’s like there’s nothing there, it‘s just a blank spot.”
“A blank spot.” Mara said. “Like the sort of blank spot you might get from a Vong hiding behind a masquer, you mean?”
“It could be. Have you ever heard of anything like this happening to a Jedi before?”
“It isn’t unheard of.” Luke mused, rubbing his hand across his chin. “You might not remember, but my… friend, Callista. She had been a Jedi and ended up being cut off from the Force when she switched her consciousness to another body. It could be something similar has happened to Anakin.”
“It’s easy enough to find out.” Han said, rising to his feet. “Where is he, down in the crew quarters somewhere?” Jaina nodded, and he turned towards the door as Luke stood to join him.
“Han, where are you going?”
“To get my son back, where do you think?”
“And what if Jaina’s right, and it is a Yuuzhan Vong in disguise?”
Han looked back over his shoulder with a look in his eye that caused the hairs on the back of even Mara’s neck to rise. “Then we’re going to find out just how much pain one of these kriffing scarheads can take.”

ah, another great post here Klimt! It's amusing how all the Force sensitives just want to talk things over, while Han is going to go solve the problem. Very wonderful characterization in that. Great job and thanks for the PM!

That was fantabulous!!!!! Jaina's voice is so real and true and Han's is totally him.  Leia's "denial"? about Jacen is in character also-- eagerly awaiting the next update.  !!!!

This is really an interesting change from the NJO. I wouldn't want to be on Han's bad side, that's for sure! Even Mara's danger sense rose.
