	Title: Fire Author: ginchy Timeline: Very AU, post TTT Rating: PG Challenge: SJRS Challenge-Take a song you think applies to L/M and write a short story incorporating themes from that song. Must include reference to Luke's X-Wing. Note: I'm majorly rusty and afraid it shows! This is the 5th draft of this story. eeek! In any case, I love this song in all its incarnations--Bruce Springsteen wrote and performed it, but it's usually known as a song by the Pointer Sisters (the inspiration for this fic was that version). For a great laugh, on You Tube there's a version of Robin Williams as Elmer Fudd singing this... That just ruined the whole mood of the story, didn't it? ** I'm ridin' in your car, you turn on the radio You're pullin' me close, I just say no I say I don't like it, but you know I'm a liar 'Cause when we kiss, ooh, fire Late at night, you're takin' me home You say you wanna stay, I say I wanna be alone I say I don't love you, but you know I'm a liar 'Cause when we kiss, ooh, fire “Well?” Luke asked, as he queued into traffic. Squinting against the too-bright lights on the front of a passing speeder, Mara turned to look at him. “Well, what?” “Well,” he began again, “did you have a good time?” He reached across the seat and brushed her fingers with his. She rebuffed his action, not allowing him to take her hand. “Dinner was… nice.” In the play of shadows and light from the passing speeders, Mara watched a broad smile cross his face. “You’re satisfied with nice?” she asked. Luke turned towards her and gave her a penetrating look, trailing his eyes over her face and body. “Are you?” She shook her head and gave a half-laugh of exasperation. “Don’t try to play the scoundrel, Farmboy,” she chided. He merely kept smiling, and she looked away from his face, turning critical eyes to the speeder they rode in. “Nice vehicle, Skywalker. I think we’d have more room in your X-Wing.” Expertly navigating around a slow-moving skybus, Luke reached out to her once more as she stopped speaking. His hand cupped her shoulder and softly tugged, pulling her close across the short seat. “Nothing wrong with being cozy, Mara,” he replied in a low voice. She shivered against his touch and pulled back, unhappy with his ability to gain a reaction from her. “I don‘t like when you touch me like that,” she whispered without much conviction. Luke gripped the wheel in front of him, but his eyes slid to hers again. “Like that,” he repeated. She didn’t answer him, and after a moment he flipped on the entertainment frequency. A slow, sultry song played, and Mara shifted to look out the window. His lips at her throat, her fingers digging into his shoulders, and that song… She shut her eyes to the memory and sat forward, flipping the frequency off. She didn’t look at him, and didn’t have to, his Force barriers were up tight, but even still she had felt his jolt of recognition. Another swift turn of the speeder and her building loomed from his side, the window to her suite dark, and inviting. “I’ve just gotten back, and have hardly seen you,” he said, dropping two levels to her parking deck. “Did you miss me?” “No,” she said, her hand on the release to the crash restraint. “Should I have?” His lips pulled back up in a small smile. “Just a question, Mara,” he said quietly. “I missed you.” “Come on, Skywalker, you were only on Yavin for, what? Two weeks?” “Try two months,” he replied dryly. “I didn't count the days.” “Obviously,” he said, pulling the speeder into her garage and parking. She unfastened her restraint and shifted towards the door before his touch once more at her shoulder stopped her. She turned. “Skywalker--” He slid across the seat and suddenly his hand was entwined in the hair at her neck. “Why did you come out with me tonight, Mara?” “I--” she looked into his eyes, but couldn’t answer, her gaze dropping to his lips even as she strengthened her mental shields against him. “What if I said I wanted to stay with you again tonight?” he asked, thumb slowly rubbing the sensitive skin at her hairline. Mara shook her head, backing as far away as she could in the tiny vehicle, his warm scent too familiar and intoxicating. “I want to be alone.” She expected disappointment in his eyes and his Force sense, but only saw a glimmer of amusement and a knowing look. His hand let go his grasp of her hair, and slid slowly down her neck to her exposed arm, pleasurable chill bumps rising in his wake. “Okay,” he breathed, “I’ll leave you alone.” “Good,” she said, taking her chance and making a quick exit of the vehicle. He exited too and lounged against the rear of the speeder as she started to walk off, the heels of her shoes clicking loudly and quickly against the duracrete. “I think you forgot something,” his voice called after her as she pressed the button on the garage lift. She stopped, but didn’t turn, knowing what would happen if she answered him. The silence was broken only by the lift doors opening. “What did I forget?” she asked as the lift doors snicked closed when she didn't get on. “This,” he answered, and she listened to him stride across the distance she had covered. Over-sensitized at the thought of what he would do when he reached her, she gasped when he spun her around to face him. He grasped her upper arms and pulled her against him, until she could feel every inch of his body nestled against hers and his warm breath against her cheek. “You wouldn’t still be here if you didn’t want me too,” he whispered, voice husky with emotion and need. “Shut-up--” She didn’t finish her words as his lips came down on hers, soft, testing. She broke his grip on one arm and lifted her hand to his neck and clung, pulling him even closer as her lips firmed with pressure against his. He pushed back momentarily to look at her with a smile before leaning back in and delicately kissing her upper lip, seeking entry at the seam of her lips, wrapping her in his arms, and Force sense, his taste and subtle movements against her body sparking a fire that spiraled down and through her body. Luke pulled back first, with a small moan of pleasure, before giving her another kiss that lingered. He took a step back, catching his breath, and she followed his step and leaned into him, closing her eyes. “No matter what I say or do, you keep coming back…” “I think you know why,” he said, his barriers down completely now, and she could feel his love and want and need wash over her. “But I don’t….” His finger on her lips stopped her, and she shivered when that finger traced over her lips softly. “Oh, but I think you do,” he whispered. “Because, Mara, when we kiss…” He looked at her and groaned, his head dipping towards her again, and in his kiss she felt what he did not say. Fire. You had a hold on me right from the start A grip so tight I couldn't tear it apart My nerves all jumpin', actin' like a fool Well, your kisses they burn, but my heart stays cool… -----signature----- Positivity. 	Love it! Yay! a Ginchy vig to savor! Girl, I could picture that so well in my mind. You have such a knack for creating vivid imagery, and your pacing is perfect. I love how the vig is slow and sultry, just like that song.
