Subject: The death star is destroyed and the Emperor is dead. A moment of happiness and celebration for everybody in the galaxy. Well, almost everybody. Luke Skywalker stands alone in front of a large funeral pyre, watching the corpse of his father disappearing into the licking flames. He is lost in his thoughts and questions, trying to figure out his past. His father, Ben and Yoda are dead now. He never came to know his mother´s name, can not give her a face.

Disclaimer: SW is owned by George Lucas and Lucas Lt. !!!

Inspiration: I did a lot of painting since I came together with DarthUncle here on the JC boards. What started with a PM friendship at the WNU party in June 2005 did end in a very deep love relationship. I moved to the Netherlands on the 15th August 2007 and we did set a wedding date at the local city hall for the 13th october. Therefore I wanted to do something special with him.

The graphics of my novel already already do exist in my fanart thread, but last night words crawled into my mind, linking some of my art projects in a very astonishing way.

In the late morning hours I sat down, writting it all down.

My next step will be putting some money aside to get everything printed out in a nearby print shop.

I could not hide my activities from a very clever DU though, he always knows what his little bee is up to. Especially now in the summer holidays from school. So I deceided to put everything on-line. Have fun!

“Fragments of a childhood”
A graphic STAR WARS novel by AzureAngel2 in 2008
Inspired by George Lucas and the funeral scene on Endor
A wedding present for my husband-to-be Darth Uncle

Text: I do not know much of my early childhood. I just remember fragments of it.

There were of course my aunt Beru and my uncle Owen. They loved me and cared for me as if I was their own son. In their humble home stead lie the roots of my very being.

But when I try to remember my parents my mind draws up a blank.

Text: The only persons I could have asked about my parents became one with the Force.

One of them was the ancient Jedi master Yoda, whom I owe so much. He trained me on Dagobah even though I was considered to be too old to learn the ways of the Jedi.

Text: I can not put it in words, but I feel deep inside me that he could have told me more about the exact circumstances of my birth.

Text: The other person who seemed to know more was Obi-Wan-Kenobi, but he told me the truth from a different point of view. I still feel anger and regret about this.

Oh, Ben, why was your version so tainted? My father and you were so close once.

What happened between the two of you, when he turned to the dark side? Was it just his betrail of your trust or did he commit an unspeakable crime?

Text: And you, father, can not talk to me any longer. Our common time was too brief. The odds were against us.

While the flames of your funeral pyre devour you, I already miss you. I miss you… so much.

Text: The whole galaxy feared and hated you as Darth Vader, Dark Lord of the Sith and right hand to Emperor Palpatine.

I know almost nothing of the man you once were: Anakin Skywalker, jedi knight and son of my grand-mother Shmi.

The only things that I can say for sure are that you were not meant for moisture farming and you never were into trade flights.

Text: How did you become evil? What turned you to the dark side? Did you ever regret your choices? Which price did you pay for it apart from your ruined health?

Text: In the end you turned away from your dark master and all the power you held in the Empire. You sacrificed yourself for me.

I think that mother smiled somewhere in the force, being proud of you.

Text: My mother, who was she? I do not even know her name. Yoda and Ben never bothered to share that secret with me. And my twin sister Leia is as clueless as I am.

Strange images gather inside me when I try to focus on my mother. I see masquerades and beautiful costumes. And people who seem to guard a priceless treasure. But when I concentrate too much on those vague images, they slip through my fingers like sand.

Text: When I was a very small boy, barely able to walk without aunt Beru’s help, I always tried to imagine my mother as a beautiful angel. An angel, that watched over me night and day. With her large wings she kept me save from harm. And her lovely voice echoed in my dreams, though the memory of her exact words is lost to me.

There is one thing that I know for certain though: mother believed that there was good left in you, father.

Okay then lets go on en van harte bedankt voor kijken, beste bird!

Text: And so, despite Ben’s efforts, I believe in you. Even inside the Emperor’s throne room, when all was at stake and almost lost.

because my scanner is on strike

Text: I believe with all my heart that mother was with us when you died, father. It felt like the wings of an angel were touching your tears, when you lay in my arms back on the death star. She is with us here even now.

Text: Mother, I wish that I could remember you as much as Leia seems to.

Aunt Beru told me that she met you once in the company of father, when grand-father Clieg was still alive. Unfortunately, she said no more about it. I tried to find out more through the other farmers and the folks in Anchor Head. But all that they could tell me was the story of grand-mother’s sad death due to a Tusken Raider attack.

Text: I am aware that you and father must have married at some point during the Clone Wars. Where and how, I can not tell. Nor do I know who was present at the ceremony. It would be so nice to possess the knowledge of other family members out there, happy and alive.

Text: A nagging question bothers me: Ben was NOT married and Yoda was NOT either. This leads me to more questions running through my head. Are jedi knights allowed to love? Can they have a family and a normal life?

There is nobody left that I can ask. All the other jedi knights died in the Clone wars and with Palpatine the last Sith lord is wiped out.

Text: Was your marriage to mother a secret, father? If it was so, where you happy when she told that she was pregnant?

You did not seem to know about Leia’s existence for a very long time. How come? Where you already separated then? If you were, did you leave her in anger?

And is it bold to ask how mother died? Do you know, father?

Text: You were destined to die the very moment that the Emperor’s force lightening hit you. I wish we would have been granted more time together as parent and child. So many countless questions regarding my heritage and my true roots dwell inside me. Your knowledge, father, would have helped to put together the fragments of my childhood and give my mother a face.

So I remain simply Luke Skywalker, the last jedi knight in the galaxy, hero of the Rebel Alliance and brother to Princess Leia Organa.

The End

These are gorgeous, Azure! Graphic novels aren't something you see around here (I've only ever seen yours tongue ), so this is really unique. Your paintings are beautiful, as is the story. love The text fits perfectly!

I do like how this went and how it ended. My favorite pix was pregnant Padme. Her blank face almost looked like it held tears.

That was really great Azure. I really loved how well the text matched with the pictures. Very moving!

Text: In the end you turned away from your dark master and all the power you held in the Empire. You sacrificed yourself for me.

I think that mother smiled somewhere in the force, being proud of you.

The picture that went along with that is one of my favorites. It was so very well done!
