Jaina’s Lightsaber plunged into Jacen’s chest. In that moment, the world stop. Time, everything stopped. Except for Jacen. Jacen starred at the purple blade that had killed him. He knew that the moment he let time resume it would be over, The light saber had burned a perfect tunnel through his chest and burrowing through all four chambers of his heart. There would be a huge arterial spray as the blood pressure of his final heartbeat ended its course in his chest. Blood flow would stop, and exactly fifteen seconds after he would lose consciousness, and four minutes later, his brain would start to die, and after ten minutes there would be no chance of preserving his life in any state. Jacen was truly surprised though, to find that he was not afraid. He did not fear his imminent demise, but before he could consider what it meant, his life, literally flashed before his eyes. His birth, his childhood, his time in the Academy, his life. When it was over, Jacen was troubled. He did not want to die, who would, and he had equally valid selfless and selfish reasons, most important of them Allana, If he died now, Allana would never know him, would scarcely remember him . . . And might live in shame of him. Jacen frowned thinking over his life. 31 years, years of trial, and pain. His childhood had been okay, but as all things must end, it ended abruptly for him, with Anakin’s death and his long torture among the Yuuzhan Vong.
“I wish I could go back.” Jacen muttered to himself. For a long time he was silent with a forlorn expression. He blinked.
“I can go back.” Jacen realized. “If I flow walk to the Myker mission to find myself and my body here in this timeline dies . . .” Jacen pondered out loud. Jacen’s mind worked furiously. logically a person who dies simply ceases to exist, but . . . Jacen knew that Jedi who have died, have reappeared to other Jedi, so he had concrete proof of the concept of a soul. So on one count Jacen was set, but there was still the paradox problem. By going back in time, he would be irreversibly changing time, so in theory once he arrived, he could simply cease to exist, simply because his past self could end up dying before he did in this time line, or became someone completely different. But the most sobering problem in Jacen’s mind was heart wrenching. He could go back, influence time, and everything he ever wanted in life could happen, Anakin could survive, he could live a life with Tenel Ka, and yet Allana, would never exist. Not his Allana, even if by miracle of the force, they exact same conditions occurred it would not be her. But it would be a form of Allana perhaps. Jacen most painful realization was that there were no sure facts, he wasn’t even sure he could do it.
Jacen had been still for eternity, and for no time at all, thinking. He closed his eyes and nodded. He would change one thing, and one thing only, he would influence his former self to affect one event, he would not transfer his memory or his spirit. Anything he did would not affect what happened in his past beyond the point the flow walks to, because every event after the point the influence s the past, will be different, an alternate timeline, parallel to his own. It wouldn’t change anything for him, in ten minutes he would be permanently dead, nothing could change that. But he would die knowing, that in another Universe, and alternate to his own, that there was a chance it would not turn out this way. In another Universe, Anakin, would survive the Myker mission.
Thirteen years ago Jacen appeared in the Voxyn garhsalls flowing through time waiting for the right moment to . . . Now. Jacen slowed down the spread of time. He winched, the world was growing dark,
where was he?
Jacen wondered,
where is, me?
He wondered again and squinted through the moving figures.
I haven’t much time.
Jacen thought feeling the end very near. But he at last found himself, slashing at the Vong that barred their way to the Voxyn Queen. He felt a moment of mirth when he realized Tenel Ka was by his side. Jacen felt death start to grab hold.
I can’t waste anymore time.
He forcefully connected himself with his former self.
There is an imposter, he will free the Voxyn Queen. KILL THE IMPOSTER, save Anakin. The Vong will kill him, they will do anything to keep you alive SAVE ANAKIN!
He mentally screamed as death at last took him.
Jacen spun and skewered a Vong warrior, and then without warning grabbed his head. Tenel Ka barely had enough time to kill another warrior trying to take advantage of the situation.
“Jacen!” she said in a worried tone, though not taking her eyes off the Warriors trying to kill them.
“Tenel Ka.” Jacen said, groaned and then stood. He was confused, he was fighting and then
. . . Imposter, sandy haired man . . .
Jacen blinked and realized he saw a sandy haired man.
KILL THE IMPOSTER!
Jacen arm drew back and he threw his lightsber, guided by the force at the sandy haired man, as the imposter raised a blaster to blow open the Voxyn Queen’s cage. The Imposter heard the Lightsaber and turned just in time to be beheaded by the blade of an infinite edge. The beheading of the imposter caused the Ooglith Mascare to go limp and fall off the body, revealing Nom Anor.
“Tenel Ka.” Jacen said with a hard edge. “Get Anakin, get Jaina and the others and escape, I’ll finish the Voxyn Queen.” Jacen said.
“Jacen-”
“Do it, they’ll keep me alive, they’ll kill the rest of us to torment me. Save Anakin, GO!” Jacen said. Tenel Ka had tears in her eyes as she looked at him before she left. Jacen turned and found his sister.
“Jaina, get them off ship! Get them home.” he said and charged unarmed into the fray.
“JACEN!” Jaina screamed and leapt after him, only to find that Lowie, seeing what Jacen was doing had grabbed onto her and dragged her away.
Jacen had no physical weapon, but he did have the force, the ground around him was of this galaxy, dirt, rock even ferrocrete brought here so that the Voxyn would not be confused by ‘blasphemous smells’. Vong charged at him. Jacen sidestepped and rolled, somehow escaped the falling amphistaves and kicking one in the gut and rolled again. He came upright and using the momentum he had close lined a taller Vong. The warrior struggled to get up but was run over by his companions, who got tangled up in the downed warrior and tripped into a massive heap. One last Vong stood in the way. Looking quickly for a weapon Jacen saw a discarded rod of metal, he grabbed it with the force and hurled it into the Vong. It impaled the warrior like a spear and left the warrior distracted. He made it before the Voxyn Queen’s cage, and her two Shaper attendants, who desperately tried to remove the fastenings on her cage. He dared a glance at his companions, they were pulling away, they would be safe. He looked at the ground again and realized what he had to do. Catching hold of the Force he ripped the ground aloft and then spun it. Twisting and swirling like a tornado it slammed into the Voxyn Queen’s cage, the particles of sand loam and clay acted like a blender and the Queen’s horrid shrill death scream gave him and his team all the proof he needed that she was dead.
Jacen had no time to celebrate his victory, an Amphistaff hooked around his ankle and jerked the surprise and the pain of falling onto the ground broke his concentration. The Vong around him yelled, some raised their Amphistaves as though to run him through.
“HOLD” A vong commander shouted. The other Vong stopped and looked at him.
“This one is for the Warmaster, he stays alive.” the commander said.
“Commander, the Voxyn Queen is dead. And the Shapers are . . . Really dead.” The Subaltern said looking at the . . . Mush left behind Jacen’s attack. The Commander glanced at the carnage and then turned his gaze back at Jacen.
“You will regret your actions Jeedai! You will soon wish I that I killed you.” he snarled and then lashed out at Jacen with his foot, and for Jacen the world went dark.
There was a grim silence among the young Jedi aboard the once abandoned ship they found on the Yuuzhan Vong worldship. They were all gathered in the main cabin of the ship. Anakin, having been induced into a force trance, was laid out on the bench. Beside him by his head Tahiri sat, concerned and apprehensively watching him. Tekli, walked from person to person, quietly taking care of the numerous cuts and wounds they had suffered. Ganner sat on the floor, his back against a wall, quietly resting and ignoring, or trying to ignore the blue skinned Twi’Lek girl who was trying to flirt with him. Aleema eventually did stop, but only when Tenel Ka, openly crying and in obvious misery threaten to dismember her if she did not stop. Leaving with a homicidal glare Tenel Ka continued to pace, clearly a mechanism to control her rising anger and grief. In contrast Jaina was deathly silent staring at a spot on the table, she occasionally winched. Teaser and Lowie were not in the room, having left to hunt down the parasites and vermin that undoubtedly inhabited the ship. Jaina rubbed her temples. They all jerked when Tenel Ka stuck the wall of the cabin, leaving a sizable dent.
“Do you feel him too?” Jaina asked. Tenel Ka glanced at her, a look that was hardly softer than a glare.
“They are torturing him.” she growled. Zekk, standing near Jaina, watched Tenel Ka with concern. He stood and nervously approached her.
“We couldn’t get to him, it wasn‘t your fault Tenel Ka. He told you to grab Anakin and that’s what you did.” Zekk said. He winched as he realized that his comment had not gone over well, drawing glares from both Jaina and Tenel Ka. Tenel Ka lost her iron will over her anger and grabbed Zekk with the force and threw him into a wall. Zekk, dazed slowly slide down the wall and collapsed onto the floor. Tenel Ka froze, realizing what she did, knelt down and checked Zekk for injuries. Finding none, Tenel Ka stood up and walked away, clearly wanting to be alone. Ganner, seeing the tension run out of control turned to Tekli.
“How’s Anakin?” he asked. The Chandra Fan frowned briefly before speaking.
“He’s still in serious condition, but I believe he’ll be Ok when we get him to a medical facility.” Tekli said.
“Good.” Tahiri said, for the moment her usual bubbly self.
“-but none the less, we should hasten our arrival to whatever world we are going to incase Anakin . . . Well we need to
hurry to get him help.” Tekli cautioned.
“. . . Ha-Hapes . . .” Anakin suddenly groaned.
“Anakin!” Tahiri exclaimed. The others stood and gathered around the hurt boy.
“Hapes, go to Hapes.”
“Anakin, Coruscant is closer, we-”
“No! Coruscant is overrun! To Hapes!” Anakin screamed.
“He’s loopy.” Tahiri said looking at Tekli in worry. Tekli shook her head.
“He’s not delirious, merely in pain.” Takli said. Ganner drew near to the pain stricken boy.
“Anakin, we- hey!” Ganner yelped as Anakin grabbed tight of Ganner’s collar and hauled him down, face to face.
“Hapes, got to Hapes, WE MUST GO TO HAPES!” Anakin screamed using the force to infuse the urgency. Ganner, wide eyed,
struggled to free himself from the teenager.
“Anakin, let go.” he said. Anakin merely held him there, staring right in Ganner’s face. Tekli suddenly pushed Anakin down,
with Tahiri helping. Ganner finally managed to free himself. He turned to Jaina and Zekk.
“Maybe we should go to Hapes.” he said. They exchanged glances and nodded.
“Okay, Zekk, change our course, I’ll go tell Tenel Ka.” Jaina said. Zekk nodded and left for the Cockpit.
Jaina started to search for Tenel Ka. She didn’t have to search long, Tenel Ka had left a series of fist shaped dents in the walls. She followed them to an escaped pod. Grimacing Jaina put her hand to the control panel. As the door opened Jaina heard snuffling sounds and with strained sobs. Deciding quickly Jaina entered the pod and shut the hatch behind her. And turned to see something she had never seen before.
Tenel Ka, red faced and tear stricken.
“What?” Tenel Ka tried to growl, but came out as a strangled sob. Jaina forgot what she came here to talk to her about.
“We’ll get him back.” she said. Tenel Ka looked at her for a moment.
“We’re enroute to Hapes. When we get there we can rest up and plan to rescue him.” Jaina said. Her words seemed to hearten
Tenel Ka slightly. She took in a deep breath and nodded.
“Yes.” Tenel Ka said. She managed to control her emotions for a moment before her face screwed up and she began to cry
again. Jaina grabbed her and hugged her. Tenel Ka wasn’t the only one crying.

: Well, there are going to be a few differences.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When Jacen woke up he realized that something was very wrong. At least he assumed so, after what should someone feel when they wake up for the first time, dead? Death he had expected, an afterlife, he had always doubted, but on one level was pleased to know that it existed. Waking in the wrong time, he knew was very wrong.
And he knew this, because he recognized the world as Yavin 4, a Vong infested Yavin 4.
“What?” he asked himself.
“But I died in the future. . .” he said, very disconcerted.
“And yet your soul is in this time.” someone said. Jacen turned to see an old bearded man and a half meter high Marsh
Goblin. Jacen stared at them for a long time.
“Master Yoda? Master . . . Kenobi?” Jacen said, guessing their identities.
“Foolish and dangerous, your actions are. Selfish beyond compare.” Yoda said.
“Was it?” Jacen asked. “This isn’t my universe, the Jacen here really isn’t me.” Jacen said.
“True this is, dangerous it still is.” Yoda said.
“Upsetting the force in this manner is . . .”
“The Force is not conscious.” Jacen said.
“A will the Force has.” Yoda said.
“No more than any river has on the land.” Jacen countered. He shook his head.
“I shouldn’t even exist here. Why am I still here?” he demanded.
“Left your soul here you did. Fail to return you soul did.” Yoda said.
“So I’m doomed to be here?” Jacen asked.
“Dead you are, return to your universe you will, when your soul catches time.” Yoda said. Jacen grimaced.
“So I have to wait thirteen years before I can return to my Universe?”
“Eternity you have, lose time you will not.” Yoda commented.
“We are more concerned with your influence on this Universe.” Kenobi said.
“What I did is all I’m doing, period.” Jacen said. “ I already know how it will play out.” Jacen said.
“No you don’t.” Kenobi said. “Your influence on that one moment changed everything you knew, for better or for worse.”
“Jacen here will be tortured, enslaved and ripped from the force. He will endure and be stronger for it and he will escape
with the sacrifice of Ganner Rhysode.” Jacen said.
“Unlikely that is, Not there to protect Jacen, Vergere is.” Yoda said. Jacen frowned.
“What?” he demanded.
“Failsafe, Nom Anor Had, killed you former self did. Nom Anor and Vergere.” Yoda said.
“Vergere is dead?” Jacen asked with surprise. That wasn't supposed to happen yet, not for another year. “Oh kriff. . .”
Jacen awoke on a living ship, limb stretched painfully in all directions. Vaguely Jacen took note of a translator worm in his ear.
“ . . . the Jedi slew Nom Anor, and then . . . Slew the Voxyn Queen.” he heard a harsh Vong voice say. Another Vong raged.
“And its shaper creators! We have lost that knowledge!” a much less harsher, but none the less angry female voice shouted.
“Knowledge is given by the gods, is it not Shaper?” A voice Jacen recognized as Tsavong Lah spoke.
“Of course.” the Shaper said, apparently a placating admission. The device holding Jacen chirped, alerting the speaking Vong.
“Ah, he has awakened.” Jacen heard the Warmaster say.
“Shall we kill him now?” Jacen heard the harsh voice say. There was silence.
“Shaper, can you do anything with him?” he heard the Warmaster ask. Jacen struggled with the creature to free himself.
“Unfortunately no Warmaster. While young, he has reached skeletal maturity. The One who was shaped was younger, and pliant.
He would be a waste of time.” said the shaper.
“So kill him then.” said the harsh voice again.
“I have an idea.” said a silky voice.
“Be quick with it Intendant!” The Warmaster demanded.
“Humiliation.” the Intendant said.
“We are not here for your entertainment.” the Harsh voice said.
“No, not the prisoner, the remains of this New Republic.” he said. There was silence.
“Explain.” Tsavong Lah said.
“We beat him, every day, before villip, communicated so that their abominations can see.” The Intendant said.
“What does this matter?” the Harsh voice demanded.
“He is important, a scion of a powerful clan, comparable to the Lah or Shimmra Clans for their influence on their people.
Beating him so that their galaxy can see would humiliate them, and loosen their weak morale.” There was silence.
“I like this idea.” Jacen dreaded what he now knew was about to happen.
Anakin finally awoke in a Bacta tank. He turned his head and peered into the thick liquid vainly. The last thing he remembered was . . . Tenel Ka clubbing him on the back of his head with the butt of her light saber. On the worldship orbiting Myker. Anakin frowned he was in a Bacta Tank. Which meant . . .
Where the hell am I?
Anakin almost screamed.
“Anakin.” Anakin jerked at the voice at his ear. Tahiri Anakin frowned again.
Who uses a bubble Helmut in a Bacta Tank?
He wondered.
“Where are we?” he asked.
“We are on Hapes.” This time Anakin froze it was his mother.
“Mom? What? What is going on.” There was silence for a moment.
“Anakin.” came his uncles voice. This time Anakin became angry.
“Will someone just tell me?” he demanded. He heard his uncle sigh.
“Anakin, you were brought here, on Hapes two days ago. They had to regrow your spleen.”
“We’re on Hapes.” he said. “What about the mission.” he asked.
“The mission was successful, Jacen killed the Voxyn Queen, Nom Anor, and apparently The Vong planted a failsafe on Vergere,
which killed her when Nom Anor died.” Luke said. Anakin sighed and then continued.
“What about our loses?”
“Yourself, Teaser, Tenel Ka, Tekli, Tahiri, Jaina, Ganner, Zekk and Aleema arrived here two days ago.” Luke said. Anakin
froze.
“Wait, what about Jacen? He killed the Queen, so did he? . . .” Anakin trailed off as he realized what Luke meant.
“Anakin, The others are dead, except for Jacen, who . . . The Vong have taken prisoner.” Luke said. Anakin could hear in his uncle’s voice that those were not strictly the facts.
“How do you know?” Anakin asked, resorting to pure logic to deal with his rising grief.
“They, have sent holos of him, being beaten.” Luke said. “Two days ago, yesterday, today they force him to fight one Vong
after another until his body gave out.” Luke said with a hard edge.
“What are we doing about it?” Anakin asked.
“We can’t do anything, not right now. They want to keep Jacen alive, that’s in our favor for now.” Luke said quietly. Anakin heard his uncle sigh.
“Get some rest, you’ll be out in four hours.
Anakin was not pleased to find himself weak as a Sand Panther cub when he got out. His annoyance grew when his mother, and Tahiri, fussed over him like he was mortally wounded. Well he had been but he was fine now. Tahiri had even drawn a light saber on one of the doctors when they told her she needed to leave. Wisely they let the teenage girl sleep on the unused bed in his room.
“Depriving yourself of sleep will not help your brother.” A voice said. Had Anakin the strength he would have bolted upright. Instead he turned his gaze on the blue glowing figure in the chair in the corner. In the chair sat a stranger that was strangely familiar. Anakin blinked. He looked like his father, but taller, more heavily built and sported a long mane of hair and a thick beard.
“Who are you?” he demanded. The stranger shrugged.
“Who I am is irrelevant, in fact detrimental to you should you realize who I am.” the man said.
“Why are you here?” The stranger smirked and calmly ignored the last question.
“Suffice it to say, I am-was a fallen Jedi, and former Sith Lord.” he said. Anakin frowned and then blurted the next thing
that came to his mind.
“Why are you shirtless?” he demanded. The question seemed to take his guest aback.
“Why? Because I was shirtless when I died, that’s why.” he said. “Be glad I didn’t stroke out in the shower when I’m 64.” he
said. Anakin shuddered at the mental image.
“Why are you here?” Anakin asked.
“What do you intend to do when your are hale again?” the stranger asked.
“What?” Anakin asked.
“What are you going to do next?” the stranger repeated, although with irritation. Anakin was silent.
“Whatever it takes to rescue my brother.” Anakin said. The stranger nodded. “Its my fault he’s there.” Anakin blurted. The
man looked at him in annoyance.
“Don’t be stupid, it was his choice to come and it was his choice to sacrifice himself to save you.” the stranger admonished
Anakin. “Do not worry, your brother is safe, so to speak, for the time being. But he will need help to escape.”
“Escape? He needs rescue! There’s no way he can escape from them! They probably have him guarded night and day, and
monitored by-”
“By what exactly?” the stranger asked. Anakin blinked.
“What?” he asked stupidly.
“What do the Yuuzhan Vong use to control and monitor their prisoners?” the strange man asked theatrically.
“I- I don’t know.” Anakin admitted.
“Yes you do, part of the answer sleeps in this very room.” The stranger said nodding at Tahiri, still deeply zonked out.
“Tahiri? She . . . The implants. Slave Seeds.” Anakin reasoned. The stranger nodded.
“Tell me Anakin, have you ever met a living non sentient creature that did not eventually bend to your brother’s will?” the stranger asked. Anakin took the question seriously and thought.
“Hey . . .” he said in thought.
“You yourself have used your brother’s talents before, On Yavin 4, only your attempt was amateurish, and poorly adapted
compared to a serious effort by your brother.” The stranger said. Anakin bristled slightly, but didn't object to the stranger's harsh but astute analysis.
“Now, what would you need to aid him in his escape?”
“Why do you keep telling me things in the form of guiding questions?” Anakin demanded.
“Because you are learning the reasons for the answers for yourself. Now answer.” Anakin fumed and humored the dead stranger.
“Ships, battle ships, blast boats, fighters, specially trained men. . .”
“Whom do you know that has those resources?”
“The New Republic.”
“Is on its heels and can’t spare a single ship.”
“Uh . . . Lando.”
“Has exerted himself in making war droids.” Anakin bit his lip stumped and curse the Hapan warm nights. The . . . Hapes.
“Tenel Ka!” he said in a hushed tone. The stranger smiled.
“I think you’ve found your supplier, and strongest supporter.” the man said. Anakin frowned.
“What do you mean?” he asked. The man sighed.
“That you must find out yourself. But there is one problem.”
“What?”
“The Queen is dying. Soon, either Tenel Ka will be force to take the throne, or Ta’a Chume will retake the throne. In either
case your attempt will fail before it gets off the ground.” the man said. Anakin fumed for a moment and then paused.
“Why is Tenenniel dying?” Then stranger smiled broadly.
“You’ve found your next step.” he said and then faded from view. Anakin frowned and went to sleep, knowing what he needed to
do next.
“This is a dangerous game you are playing.” Obi-Wan told Jacen. “You would be better off not interfering Jacen.” he said. Jacen snorted.
“All I did was give Anakin a nudge in the right direction.”
“Resilient you are. Resilient, is this dimmension’s Jacen Solo?” Yoda asked. Jacen blinked.
“You may have overcome captivity in your past, but that may not be so for this world’s Jacen Solo.” Obi-Wan said. Jacen had
a sinking feeling as Obi-Wan and Yoda faded to their recesses of death

RE: The Focal Point (Time Paradox AU) Post 2 Up
Thank you all for comment.
SilSolo: That is almost always the question isn't it?
Kidan:Thanks, and I'll try not to disapoint.
shahid_chestro: It will get even better that I promise.
The_Silent_one: Ok, you're on the list.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Jacen panted and grunted as he absorbed the meaty punch of his opponent. Today, the Vong pitted him against a human. Then a Rodian, then four Chandra Fans, and now a human that out massed him by a Hundred Seventy five kilos. And only half of that Jacen could attribute to fat. The only comfort Jacen took was the fact that to date, none of his opponents had any real combat training. Even so, knowing that they would die if they failed to put up a good show had driven the gladiators to heights of physical prowess they would never achieve again. Because when Jacen defeated them, the Vong killed them anyway. After the first single bout on his fourth day of captivity, Jacen tried to tell his next opponent what was going on, but his opponent sneer and accused him of trying to trick him into giving up and being killed that way. Today, the Rodian and the Chandra Fans either smelled the dead preceding opponents or sensed what was to happen and gave him no quarter, nor time to breathe. But Jacen had been trained since youth, not necessarily for deathmatch combat, but he was most certainly a more complete physical specimen than any of his opponents to date. However, even the greatest athlete would falter against 220 cm 250 Kilos.
As Jacen rolled with the impact from the Giant’s blow, he silently wondered where they found this man. He clearly suffered from a hormonal growth problem. Before this day Jacen had been aware of Gigantism and the serious medical problems it presented, oversized and underpowered heart, hypertensive arteries, vision problems and numerous joint and bone ailments. But Gigantism was easily caught, sometimes before birth and treated before any maladjustments of physiology could occur.
Wherever he was from he was most certainly a wonder of nature, while slightly overweight and sporting a keg, the Giant display strength that would rival a Thakwassh, or a Wookie with ease. Jacen realized that wrestling with this man would be death, as would boxing him, as he held a clear half meter reach advantage, if not more. Jacen backed up three meters and circled right. The giant froze and squinted, rapidly turning his head this way and that and even looking behind him self. In a horrific moment of pitied understanding Jacen realized. He’s almost blind, unless I’m in his central vision or very close he can’t see me. Jacen stayed still just a little too low and the Giant finally locked onto Jacen and charged. Evading was almost out of the question, the Giant holding his near three meter arm span wide as he charged. Jacen failed this time to evade and was grabbed by the shoulder and held aloft. The giant punched him, once, twice, six times in the face. Jacen felt something give and cried out in pain he never imagined before. The Giant then lifted Jacen over his head, grabbed Jacen’s legs, and tried to make his hands meet. Behind Jacen’s back. Jacen screamed anew as the Giant tried to snap his spine in a manner that shouldn’t be possible. After a moment the Giant, finding that Jacen’s spine wouldn’t break like that, hurled Jacen. He flew six meters easily and rolled another ten after the throw.
Jacen slowly got up, and finding himself, for the moment unmolested. He glance over at the giant, who once again frantically scanned his surroundings. Jacen buried what pity he felt for the moment and as silently as he could circled left until he was behind the Giant. And charged. Jacen jumped on his back, and knowing he had only one shot, grabbed the giant’s forehead with his left hand and yanked. The Giant had time to cry out in pain before Jacen brought his right hand with all the force in his body, on the exposed side of the Giant’s neck. Even on the holos could the sickening crunch be heard. The Giant caught hold of Jacen and hurled him end over end again. Jacen felt something in his left leg break. He turned toward the Giant, fearing that he would be set upon again. Only to find that he had won.
The Giant swayed, clutching his throat, chest heaving in and out. But it was all too painfully clear, that no air was reaching his lungs. His mouth opened and closed like a gasping fish, the Giant even tried to force his hand down his throat to open his airway, and failing there tried to scratch open a path through his throat. Jacen openly cried throughout the terrible drawn out death of the Giant. The Giant was beautiful in his own way, a magnificent construct of Nature. Huge, Powerful, indomitable, but without air, nothing. Somehow the Giant managed to stay on his feet to the very end, when brain starvation won out, he slowly fell, knees and head falling in two completely separate motions. For one the Vong didn’t reveal and allowed Jacen to stop for the day. Even for the Yuuzhan Vong it was a terrible and disturbing way to die.
Hours later, Jacen still was shaking from the ordeal. Greatly disturbed by his actions and the death of the Giant.
“I can’t do this.” Jacen said, at his absolute low.
“You already have.” Jacen fell off his rock shelf of a bed and backed away from the glowing figure.
“WHO THE SITH ARE YOU?” he demanded.
“Does it matter?” the stranger asked. Jacen blinked and then shook his head.
“What do you want?” Jacen demanded.
“I want you to hold on.” the stranger said.
“Why?” Jacen asked. “I can’t do that again, I couldn’t live with myself if I-”
“Shut up!” the stranger said harshly. Jacen looked at him in hurt.
“Stand up! Stand up you insect!” the stranger demanded, for some reason incensed. Jacen obeyed. The stranger glared.
“You call yourself a Jedi?” he demanded. Jacen’s eyes dropped to the floor.
“I know, I should have not fought, I’m just playing into their hands-”
“Be quiet you young fool.” the stranger said softly. Jacen looked up at him in confusion. The Stranger sighed.
“The problem is that you are still a boy.” Jacen merely stared.
“You think your father never killed a man and regretted it? You think you are the only person who has been enslaved and
endangered for entertainment? You better rethink yourself boy, because in the Galaxy and Force’s perspective you are just
one insignificant speck of life.” he said. Jacen glared at him.
“So why bothering with me? Why is a JedI I never knew even here?” he demanded. The Vong outside his prison exchanged glances. To Jacen’s extreme fortune, neither understood Basic or wore a Tizy worm.
“How does this help balance?” Jacen further asked. The stranger openly scoffed.
“Balance? The JedI have never served balance in the force, aside for counterweighing the Sith’s influence on the Dark Side.
In truth the JedI are, and always will be Champions of the Light side.” The stranger said disparagingly.
“How is that a bad thing?” Jacen demanded.
“Overbalance to either side lends itself to suffering. The Dark side causes Suffering on a mass scale, but so does the
Light. Insistence on morals and conduct creates intolerance and regimentation of thought. Demand in conformity always ends
in bigotry and war. Those are the sins of the Light. I am no JedI.” the Stranger spat.
“You’re a Sith?” Jacen said and backed away.
“I’m dead boy and can’t harm you. And no I’m not. I am neither JedI nor Sith. I am myself and I, am neutral in the force.”
“Well I am a JedI, and I serve the Light!” Jacen screamed at the stranger. The stranger merely stared.
“Is that so? Tell me boy, which side is selfishness on? Light or Dark?” Jacen stared as he pondered.
“Its not really dark or light, but it can become dark.” Jacen waffled. Again the stranger scoffed.
“Selfishness is the definition of the Darkside. Self Pity is as well, as is the suicidal thoughts you have been harboring.
Suicide is the ultimate expression of Self pity, Selfishness and Vanity.” The stranger said. While angry Jacen pondered that
man’s words.
“Tell me boy, do you regret anything?” the man asked. Jacen blinked and thought and found hundreds of things he had not done.
“Yes.”
“What do you regret?” the Stranger asked. Jacen found himself answering the man who somehow knew exactly how to speak to
him, hell seemed to know him better than himself.
“A lot, not doing things. I’ve never been with a woman.” Jacen found himself admitting. The Stranger rolled his eyes.
“Don’t be trite boy, that’s not what you really regret. Is it?” Jacen glared.
“I regret never behind with a specific woman, hell never even telling her that I love her.” he said. Jacen’s voice softened.
“I never told my family or friends how much they mattered to me. I regret never doing something stupid and dangerous.
Something harmless and for fun I mean.” Jacen said. The stranger smiled.
“So, are you still feeling selfish enough to end it all?” he asked. Jacen closed his eyes and shook his head.
“Then you must endure.” The stranger said. Jacen looked at him despairingly.
“But I can’t take, I can’t kill those people.” he said.
“That is why I said you are still a boy Jacen.” The stranger said. Jacen collected himself and stared at the stranger
expectantly.
“Jacen, the time has come for you to become a man. And being a man means you must do things that you will regret all your
life. It means you must do things that you will hate yourself for. But you will do these thing because you must. Because the
alternative is not an improvement.”
“But if I hadn’t fought-”
“Then you would be dead, and all but one of the others would be as well. Still seven dead and one alive. And you must keep
doing so. Because you are important.” The stranger said.
“You just said I was insignificant, and how am I any better than them?” Jacen demanded.
“You worry about yourself, that is the only thing you can and should do. You are responsible only for yourself at this
juncture. And while it is true that the Force and Nature don’t care about you, your loved ones do, and they, unlike your
opponent’s special people, have the connections to rescue you. It may take months, years, even a decade, but they will find
you and save you.”
“What about the others?” Jacen asked.
“I told you, let them worry about themselves. They hold the same hope, though theirs is faint and fragile. But even fragile
hope is better than nothing.” the stranger said. “And their greatest hope is through you, when you make your escape, their
chance will come.” the stranger said.
“But if you remain a boy and succumb to your selfishness, you will take away their only chance, and make a mockery of their
death. For they will have died for nothing.” the stranger said, choosing then to fade away.
“Wait who are you?” Jacen asked.
“Someone dead, someone, who is not important. To the Force, nature or to you.” The stranger said as all trace of him all
but disappeared.
“If we should speak again, you may call me . . . Caedus.” The stranger told him.
Anakin and Tahiri walked grimly in the halls of the Hapan Royal Palace. It had taken a week. Two days to worm his way into Hapes Net and Hapes’ Royal records and the Hapan Medical Database. Five days to analyze and decode encryptions that made even Anakin’s head hurt. Anakin’s successes thus far in the war had come from his will and his determination. But it was in computer programming and Hacking that Anakin was truly Gifted. After Seven long days of relentless computer attack, Anakin had what he had searched for. Conclusive proof that the Queen of Hapes was being poisoned. He knew now how the Queen had been poisoned, he knew who poisoned her and who controlled the Assassin, and most importantly he knew what was poisoning the Hapan Queen. And furthermore, he knew how to save the Queen.
The guard had brought them to a secluded room in the Palace. In it stood Tenel Ka, who looked at him with dead eyes. Anakin and Tahiri were young enough to let Tenel Ka’s morose appearance distract them for a moment.
“Anakin, Tahiri, Astarta tells me you two have discovered something important.” She said, her mind clearly not on the two in the room. Anakin wordlessly handed her a Data pad. Tenel Ka idly glanced at the Data pad. Her eyes slowly sharpened as she realized what she was looking at.
“This.” she said with a dangerous edge. “Is my mother’s medical file! How did you come by this information? Even I can’t access it!” Tenel Ka hissed in understandably affronted anger.
“I hacked in.” Anakin admitted.
“Why?” Tenel Ka demanded.
“I couldn’t . . .” Anakin paused wondering whether she would question his sanity.
“I couldn’t sit in the hospital doing nothing while . . . While . . .” Anakin trailed off. Tenel Ka clearly caught his trail
of thought. Anakin was surprised to find tears edge into Tenel Ka’s eye.
“Yes.” she managed to croak out. She glanced further at the data pad and her fears were forgotten.
“Anakin!” Tenel Ka exclaimed when she realized what Anakin had found. She continued to read, growing angry and relieved at the same time. When she finished Anakin held out his hand. Tenel Ka looked at it having just read about it as the medicinal treatment for the toxin Her Grandmother had afflicted on her mother. Tenel Ka stared at Anakin for a moment. Lips trembling at the rage and relief warring within her. Quicker than either younger teen could react Tenel Ka grabbed hold of Anakin and hugged him. Anakin gasped and tried not to cry out at the force Tenel Ka’s single arm was able to exert.
“Anakin. Thank You.” Tenel Ka whispered in his ear and released him Tenel Ka stepped back.
“You two should leave.” she said. “It would be best if no one, especially my Great Aunts or your family find out who tipped
me off.” Tenel Ka said and disappeared into the corridor. Anakin blinked.
“What are you going to do?” he called after her. Tenel Ka’s footsteps stopped.
“I will save my mother, and . . . ‘Clean house’.” Tenel Ka said. Anakin and Tahiri exchange disturbed glances.
“What do you think she’s going to do?” Tahiri whispered in worry. Anakin glanced at her.
“I don’t know, but I think we should leave before it happens.” He said, leading her out of the palace.
“What about the code Tahiri asked, merely out of curiosity.
“They poisoned her mother, I don’t think what happens will have anything to do with the JedI.” Anakin said.
The following morning they were summoned by Tenel Ka. Tenel Ka sported new bruises and a few cuts but seemed to be in a good
mood.
“Hello Friends Anakin, Tahiri.” she said. The two mumbled good mornings.
“Yesterday, I and the Palace guard apprehended my grandmother and her servants. She will be under house arrest.” Tenel Ka
said.
“For how long?” Tahiri asked.
“For life.” Tenel Ka said simply. Tahiri glanced at Anakin.
“What about her servants?” Anakin asked. Tenel Ka gave a glance.
“Oh they’ve already been executed.” Tenel Ka said.
“Executed!” Anakin exclaimed. Tahiri looked at him strangely.
“Well duh, that’s high treason. All governments execute traitors.” Tahiri said. “The Vong do much worse.” She added. Anakin
glanced at the two women.
“Okay, so the Guard took care of that-”
“No. I executed the traitors.” Tenel Ka told them. This time Tahiri took a step back from Tenel Ka. She and Anakin exchanged
glances again and looked at Tenel Ka.
“So . . . What happens next?” Anakin asked. Tenel Ka stared at them and let them escape reality for now.
“Mother has already responded to treatment, for which I, and Hapes, are indebted to you.” Tenel Ka said, very seriously. She
dropped the serious mood, somewhat.
“For now, Father is in control of the Fleet and my actions have cowed our dissidents for now. Also, we are preparing for an
offensive, though we are unsure how to prepare our fleet.” she said and glanced at Anakin. Anakin, though unnerved by the
situation recognized the opening Tenel Ka was giving him.
“Tenel Ka, I think I have a way of calling in my favor and helping your fleet . . .” Anakin said. Tenel Ka’s face betrayed a
truly happy smile.
