Chapter 1

The blade came out of nowhere, slicing into Zekk's chest without warning, without any kind of resistance. Shock, pain, and a serene sense of inevitability settled on his face as Zekk fell to his knees, and then toppled over on his back, the pain slowly dissipating, as the Force covered his entire body. He saw Jaina standing there, screaming in pain and disbelief as she fell beside him. Her hot tears cascaded down her cheeks and landed on Zekk's face, and he wanted nothing more than to reach up and brush the tears away, and let her know that it was okay. It was his time to go, and she needed to let him go in peace. His body, however, did not respond to his desires, and as he coughed up a small amount of blood, he just looked Jaina in the eyes, hoping his emotions were somehow conveyed through his looks, through the Force.

Then, he extended his Force presence out, as far out as he could, telling the people closest to him goodbye. Jacen, Tenel Ka, Lowbacca, his closest friends. Master Skywalker, Leia…the closest thing to a family he had, and further, to anyone who had ever meant anything to him. He felt his power surge briefly, and then...and then nothingness enveloped him. He was standing in a cascading swirl of light, and as his eyes slowly adjusted to the light, he saw several people come out to greet him. Chief among them was Anakin Solo. He spoke, but the words meant little to Zekk. He was one with the Force now, and the rest would come later.

Jaina's screams started anew when Zekk's body shimmered and disappeared in her arms. This wasn't supposed to happen, it was her wedding day! Why? Why did this have to happen? Her words were incomprehensive, but as she slowly became aware of the people around her, she saw that her pain was not unnoticed. Jacen stood frozen, the lingering effects of Zekk's Force farewell still fresh on his mind. The serenity he'd felt...no, he had to focus. He needed to be with his sister. Her pain pounded into his head with the force of a small tidal wave, and he cringed, shutting down his bond with her to prevent the pain from flooding him. Kneeling down beside Jaina, he cradled her in his arms as Han and Leia rushed out of the temple, one drawn by the earsplitting screams, the other drawn by the sudden loss she'd felt in the Force.

All around them, people stopped and looked at the group as they huddled together, sharing their grief and their pain. Some were sympathetic to the pain; others just turned and walked away. For Lowbacca, he didn't know what to think. Zekk had been one of his closest friends, and he'd been a long time companion. Lowbacca was familiar with loss, having watched as Anakin Solo was brutally cut down, and as countless other Jedi died during the war, but still, none had hit closer than this. The blade had clattered to the floor when Zekk's body dissolved, and the smell of the young man's blood infiltrated Lowie's nostrils like an Imperial Storm trooper regimen, unwanted, and repulsive. Kneeling down next to his closest friends, he placed his forehead against theirs, growling and mewling as the moment finally hit him. He had lost one of his best friends, and he wasn't going to be coming back.

The man who had stabbed Zekk watched almost gleefully as the man died, and turned to run. He barely made it three steps before he faced by a myriad of lightsabers, one of them coming so close to his skin he could feel the heat. Gasping, he came up short, and looked into the eyes of the Kyp Durron, Corran Horn, Jaden Korr, Tesar Sebatyne, and Tenel Ka-Solo. Gulping, he held up his hands, the universal sign of surrender...and flicked his hands out, sending the five Jedi flying as a Force blast hit them in their chests. Turning, the masked man took off again, racing through the streets of Coruscant with reckless abandon. He didn't care that Jaina had stopped screaming and was now chasing him, hot on his heels. He knew this place better than anyone, and he would es...The lightsaber blade stopped him, and when he fell, he barely had a chance to see the dejected expression on Jacen Solo's face before his death came. However, there was no shimmer, no becoming one with the Force for this man. He just lay there, dead, and forgotten as Jaina collapsed again.

***

The funeral didn't really consist of much. Only Jedi were allowed, as well as a few close friends Zekk had made during his time as a Galactic Alliance pilot. There were no politicians, even though they'd tried very hard to be allowed to be there. Master Skywalker had made certain that only those who meant to honor Zekk's life were there. Standing to his right was Zekk's apprentice, Ralen Farr. The young man of fourteen looked at the pile of robes and the lightsaber that had been laid there. Luke didn't even want to know what the young man was thinking. He remembered how he felt with Obi-Wan and Yoda had passed, and then how he felt when Anakin was murdered. The pain was almost unbearable. Ralen walked forward, and picked up Zekk's lightsaber, holding it in his hands, and activating the blade. The coral blue blade washed over the boy's face, and Luke suddenly felt that the boy needed to have the lightsaber. Taking the blade from the boy, he faced the congregation with a heavy heart.

"Today we come not to mourn the passing of Zekk, but to celebrate the life he led. Zekk was undeniably a great Jedi, having conquered the Dark Side where any one of us could've fallen to easily. He became the kind of Jedi legends are made of, and when the next generation sings his tale, they will remember Zekk for who he is. A brave man who died well before his time and a man who gave everything to make sure that everyone around him were safe. You will be missed, Zekk, but know that you have left an amazing legacy behind. Ralen Farr, step forward, please." Luke turned and looked at the young apprentice as he took a step forward and knelt down in front of Luke. Reaching down, Luke pulled the boy to his feet, and handed him the lightsaber.

"This is yours, now. Zekk would have wanted you to have it, but remember one thing. This is not the only way. Follow in the footsteps of your Master, and become more than you ever imagined. Learn new things, and take risks, but most of all, remember what he taught you. And now, Jaina has a few things she would like to say." Luke stepped aside as Jaina walked forward, her face still red from the tears and the suffering. She took a deep breath, and looked at the group, singling out her brother. She watched him, and no one else. Jacen returned her gaze, and from the dawning expression that slowly rose on his face, Jaina knew that Jacen had figured it out.

"As Master Skywalker said, we have lost a great Jedi, but most importantly, we've lost a great friend. The man responsible from taking Zekk away from me...from all of us, is now dead. His identity will never be revealed, but what he left behind is so much worse than anything we could've done to him. He took away a dear friend, a man of unwavering integrity, and most of all, he took away the love of my life. He left me with nothing, and I don't know how to raise my child without Zekk in my life." The shocked expressions that quickly overtook the room wasn't surprising. She hadn't told anyone but her family that she had been pregnant with Zekk's child, and now that Zekk was gone...She didn't know how to raise a child on her own.

"I guess the most important thing I can say is that I'm done being a Jedi Knight. I've lost too much to the cause, and to lose the father of my unborn child has been the final straw. As soon as I step down, I will be turning in my lightsaber and robe. I'm sorry." Jaina stepped away from the podium, taking off her robes and unclipping her lightsaber from her belt. Setting them down on the monument erected in Zekk's honor, Jaina kissed her fingers and pressed them against the cold stone. "Goodbye, my love."

Before any could think of stopping her, Jaina ran from the room, tears once again streaming down her face. Waiting several kilometers away was her personal X-Wing, and the refuge of the dead of space. She needed to get away, leave this all behind her. Taking off, Jaina pushed her X-Wing to the skies, ignoring the Force calls of Jacen and Leia as she broke atmosphere, and shutting down her comm to the pleas of her father and uncle. She'd made up her mind, and she was done being a Jedi. A Jedi experienced nothing but loss, and she couldn't take any more loss in her life. She just couldn't. She didn't know where she was going to go, but the destination didn't really matter. All that mattered now was getting away from the memories.

***

Jagged Fel watched the news, wondering where Jaina thought she could run to. She had to know that they'd come after her, and try to talk her into coming back to the Jedi. The arrogance of it was appalling to Jag, but then again, he wasn't a Jedi. He watched as the X-Wing disappeared from view and wondered if he should follow her. He knew exactly where she was going, even if she didn't. Getting up, he looked at the holovid, and clicked it off, heading for the door. Standing there was Kell Tainer, who looked like he already knew what Jag was going to ask.

"I know you want to go after her, but I'm afraid you can't right now. We've just been given a mission, top priority. It's going to be you, me, and Zyell Rel. That's as much as I can tell you right now. Be in the hangar in five, and ready to depart in half an hour. Dismissed." Kell turned and walked away, leaving the military man standing there, wondering what was so important that he couldn't go after a very near and dear friend to tell her it was going to be okay. Still, he turned and quickly got dressed and was ready in the hangar after only five minutes, and was waiting when Zyell finally joined them.

"Well, it's nice to see you all here. First off, I lead this mission, you two are here for support only, backup in case I need it. Let’s get one thing straight, I work alone, and I like it that way. The only reason you're with me is because General Sorrenson seems to think that this needs to be a three man…well, one woman, two man mission. We are infiltrating a group who we believe is behind the death of Zekk. Our mission is classified beyond top-secret, so if you have to say goodbye to someone, you better say it now. Chances are, you won't be coming back. Got it? Good, you have three minutes before we're gone." Zyell brushed passed Jag, walking onto the transport ship with a small huff and a muttered curse. Jag looked to Kell, who simply shrugged and grabbed his comm. He had to say goodbye to his wife, and to his small son.

Jag grabbed his comm, but he didn't know who to call. It wasn't going to be Jaina, she was gone. So, he settled for the Solo family. They'd taken him in long ago, giving him some semblance of a normal life, so he owed them this much. After his message was recorded, he turned and headed into the vessel, closing the door behind him. Zyell sat in the passenger seat while Jag and Kell took the copilot and pilot seats, respectively. Launching the ship into the air, Jag looked down at Coruscant wondering of this was the last time he was going to see his home. He hoped not, but his attention was quickly drawn to the mission at hand. They needed his full focus, and he was going to give it his all. As the stars stretched out and the ship shot into hyperspace, Jag silently whispered his goodbyes to Jaina, and then was silent.

Very nice!

He knew exactly where she was going, even if she didn't.

Hmmm...my guess: Borleias? (maybe Dagobah...?)

Can't wait for the next post!

P.S. If you have a PM list, could you please add me to it? Thanks!

This looks like it's going to be good! I love the start, Jaina's emotions are dead on. I love how well Jag knows her, and knows just what she plans on. I'd love to be added to your pm list. I look forward to the next update!

Thank you, I was trying to capture Jaina in a light that we haven't really seen her in since Jacen was captured and Anakin had died. I wanted to convey a sense of distance, and the need to find herself before she could continue on in being a Jedi.

Chapter 2

-over one month later-

The endless dead of space was oddly soothing as Jaina looked down at Hapes below her. She did not know what made her come here, but she was one of the closest friends to the Queen of Hapes, so that afforded her a degree of diplomatic leeway that others would not normally receive. Still, as her comm unit squawked and jabbered on, she did not reply until the familiar voice of Tenel Ka Djo-Solo came over the speakers. Leaning forward, she pressed a button on her dash, opening up the line. "Thank you for seeing me, Queen Tenel Ka. I appreciate the time."

"Jaina Solo, we have known each other for more years than I care to count, you do not need to settle on such formalities? Where have you been the last month and a half? Jacen, Master Skywalker, even your mother and father are out there scouring the galaxy for you. Where did you disappear to, my friend?" Tenel Ka's voice might not have conveyed the relief and happiness of a normal person; Jaina knew that it was there. She also knew that Tenel Ka was also trying to contact her family while talking to her, letting them know where she was. Jaina did not try to put a stop to it, but she would be long gone before Han could get here on the Falcon.

"I'm afraid that will have to be a conversation saved for a more personal meeting, my friend. May I dock? We can discuss it, then." After Tenel Ka's quick consent, Jaina navigated her X-Wing into a private hangar bay normally reserved for only the most important of visitors, and allowed direct access to the Queen herself. Jaina had barely gotten out of the cockpit when Tenel Ka came in, keeping her entourage at bay with a small gesture of her hand. Walking forward, Jaina enveloped her friend in a quick hug, taking care that her now very pregnant belly was not making the Queen uncomfortable. A quick scan with the Force allowed Jaina to see the truth. "Congratulations, Tenel Ka, Jacen will make a wonderful father to your child."

"I never could hide things from you, could I, Jaina? I just found out a few days ago, myself. As you can imagine, this is just the push some of my more...inventive competitors needed to try to strip me from my thrown. Though Jacen is, by all accounts of the law, still considered royalty, he is not of Hapan royalty, so they are trying to de-thrown me for consorting with someone outside the Hapan Royal Circle." Tenel Ka said, the smile not quite reaching her eyes as she looked at her friend. Her concern for the former Jedi was palpable as they walked through the hangar, heading for the dining hall. Jaina wanted nothing more than to tell Tenel Ka that everything was going to be okay, but she would just be lying. She had lost Zekk, the love of her life, and the father of her child. That was not something she was going to get over, at all.

As the two women sat down, a small shuffle behind her brought Jaina's senses to maximum, and the twin bond she had been ignoring for so long quickly ignited again as Jacen made his way into the dining hall. Looking at his sister, Jaina did not see anger, or disappointment, but rather, relief that she was okay, and that she was back. Through the bond, Jaina also felt the love, and the desire to stay that Jacen was feeling, and she almost wept. Her time away had been hard, on everyone it seemed. Still, even without speaking, Jacen could see that his sister was not going to be back for long. A low rumble announced Lowbacca's entrance, and Jaina was quickly lifted in the air, a loud roar splitting the room as Lowbacca greeted his friend.

"The old gang is back together again. But...you are not staying. You still don't feel like you belong here, but you really do, Jaina." What hurt the most about this was the fact that Jacen didn't ask if she was staying, he already knew she wasn't. At that second, Jaina knew that Jacen, Tenel Ka, and Lowbacca would come with her, no matter how much she protested. Even if she managed to get away, Jacen had a sense of her now, he’d be able to track her anywhere, and they'd still follow her.

"Might as well make it official, then. We'll take the Rock Dragon when we leave." Like Jacen, Jaina didn't bother to ask if they were coming. As the food was delivered, Jaina took a small bite of her salad, and looked at her friends, and family. She'd missed much during her near two-month trip to Borleias, Bespin, and Endor. Jacen had matured even more, his hair longer than she remembered, flowing down to his shoulders, and a small goatee adorned his face. Clipped to his belt was her old lightsaber, as well as his emerald green lightsaber he'd made during his days at the academy. Lowbacca was wearing an ammo belt across his shoulders much like Chewbacca used to wear, as well as a large utility belt that help many weapons and his lightsaber. Tenel Ka seemed to be the only one that hadn't changed all that much, save the pregnancy.

<Jaina, it warms my heart to hear you say that you will allow us to travel with you. We won't allow you to make this journey by yourself, anymore. We are your friends, your family. We deserve to be at your side in the toughest of times.> Jaina's understanding of Lowbacca's speech obviously hadn’t deteriorated while she was away, because she understood every word the Wookiee uttered. Smiling, this one finally a genuine smile, she nodded, leaning her forehead against the giant Wookiee’s.

“And it warms my heart to know that I have such amazing friends and family that they’d drop everything to help me. Will Isolder be okay taking over again while you’re gone, Tenel Ka?” Jaina asked, finishing her juice just before the servants came in to clean the table. Standing, Jaina felt a small kick as Tessa shifted in the womb. Reaching down, Jaina sent soothing thoughts through the Force, calming the agitated child. From the look on Jacen’s felt, he’d felt it too, and he had to admit it was refreshing to see that even though she’d given up being a Jedi, she hadn’t given up on the Force.

The next ten minutes were filled with meaningless talk as the group of four made their way to the Queen’s hangar. Sitting there was the Rock Dragon, a ship that the group of had been given during their time at the academy. Jaina remembered fondly the countless hours she and Lowbacca had used to tinker with the ship, making it almost as hodge-podge as the Millennium Falcon, though it didn’t quite match the older ship in speed. However, it made up for that with a better shielding system, and state-of-the-art weaponry and computer soft and hardware that made it one of the most technologically superior personal cruisers in the galaxy. As she headed up the familiar ramp and headed off towards the cockpit, she entertained the idea of leaving her friends behind, but she’d already said they could come, anyway. Better to just live with them, rather than leave them behind.

“Pre-flight is done, and we are all green on our end. Jaina, Lowbacca, take us up.” Tenel Ka said, and Jaina looked at the woman, wondering if she enjoyed giving orders a little more than she used to, but she did as she was asked. Within minutes, the Rock Dragon was breaking through the atmosphere of Hapes, and heading into the same dead of space that had been lulling Jaina only a hour earlier. Had it really only been that long? It seemed like a lifetime, and Jaina wanted to continue living it. Anything was better than the pain she still felt, to this day.

***

Jagged Fell was bone tired, and the suffering didn’t seem to be subsiding any time soon. Next to him, Zyell and Kel were trying to operate a mining laser that continually wanted to malfunction. One small misstep, and the thing would blow up in the trio’s face. Glaring at the older woman, Jag shook his head. “I’ve said it before, but I think I’ll say it again. Thanks to your big mouth, we were caught. Congratulations, we were almost done with the mission, and you had to go and mess it up for us. Thank you so much, my life is now complete.”

“Jag, placing blame at this point is not going make our situation any easier. We need to get out of here and get a message back to Alliance Command. They’ll know what to do from there.” Kell said, even though the words sounded hollow, even now. He knew better, they were on a mission so top-secret that the Galactic Alliance couldn’t even acknowledge the fact that the mission even existed. The chances of them sending rescue was slim. They were, as always, expendable, and they’d just used up their usefulness.

“Keep dreaming, Tainer. The only way the Alliance would send anyone is if we had anything that remotely resembled valuable information. We don’t, so we’re screwed. Get used to...” Zyell gasped in pain as Rosh Penin walked by the group, using the Force to break Zyell’s arm, again. Collapsing to the ground, Zyell glared up at the former Jedi-turned-Sith, as if daring him to do his worst. Rosh had to admit, this woman didn’t succumb to pain as easily as the rest, but that made the thrill so much more when she finally did break. Rosh hated the people who got tortured for a few minutes and then gave up. It didn’t allow him any chance to get creative. Zyell, however, was letting him be as creative as he wanted.

“When will you Alliance stooges realize that no matter what you do, you aren’t going to escape. The GA doesn’t even care about you. Hasn’t the last month taught you fools anything?” Rosh gloated, and that bought him a solid right from Jag, sending the Sith tumbling away. Tackling the Jedi, Jag continue to punch the man until Rosh got bored with the abuse, and flipped the man off of him, holding him against the rock wall behind him with little effort. A small vibroblade flew out, piercing Jag’s shoulder. A small groan escaped the man‘s lips, but nothing more. Rosh had to admire the man’s pain threshold, but he’d break it, eventually. Kell and Zyell stood to rush to the injured man’s defense, but a quick press of a button made them fall to the ground.

“Those pesky neural inhibitors working? Good. Then I won’t have to kill you. Rosh, quit playing with the Alliance puppets and get up here. It is time to make our move.” The mysterious, and unidentifiable voice of the female who seemed to be in charge filtered through the room, and Rosh rushed off without a sound. It’d been a month, and Kell still didn’t know who the woman was. Walking over, Kell pulled the blade from Jag’s shoulder, allowing the man to fall to the ground with a small yelp.

“Do we have to go through this every week? You aren’t going to do any good trying to beat a Sith. He just takes the pain until he gets bored. Whatever happened to him, Rosh isn’t the same Jedi that Kyle Katarn trained at the academy. He’s sadistic, and the sooner you realize that, the better.” Zyell said, but stopped when Jag held up his hand, displaying the deactivator that had been used on each of them every time Rosh pulled them out to interrogate them. Eyes widening in shock, she realized that even though she’d been watching Jag’s every move, she hadn’t seen the switch. The man was better than Zyell had thought, being able to lift something from a Sith. Then again, Jag was supposed to be one of the few pilots, or man, for that matter, who could go up against a Jedi and win. So, Zyell didn’t know why she was so surprised, but she was.

“Now, can we go, or do we have to listen to this for another day? I vote on leaving.” Jag pointed the device at the back of Kell’s neck, then Zyell’s, pressing the blue button, deactivating the neural inhibitor. The problem was, the inhibitors were linked to a central computer, so it’d log the devices going offline and alert the right people. Sure enough, a few seconds later, armored soldiers poured into the mines, but by the time they made it the prisoner section, the three had already disappeared.

“They will be found, my Lady.” Rosh said, after the captain fell dead at his feet. His Mistress did not take to failure lightly, and the fact that these fools had allowed the Alliance spies to escape was a major failure. If they got the information to the wrong people, their plans were ruined. However, when he saw her face, he paused.

“No, let them escape. Our salvation will come, much sooner than we thought. Already, the female Solo is on her way. Let the two teams find each other, then swoop in and kill them all. Save Jaina, of course. Bring her to me, she has something important growing inside of her. Go.” Rosh bowed, and took off, pulling three of the Special Forces soldiers they had stationed outside the door. This would be fun, and when it all ended, Rosh would finally get his revenge on his former trainee, Jaden Korr. The man had made it his life’s work to one-up Rosh, making him look bad, and Rosh would finally be through with it.

Luke Skywalker sat beside his son, listening to the whispers of the Force. Ben shuffled and moved, ignoring the call of the Force, more interested in the bugs crawling on the stone in front of him. Luke smiled as his two year old son reached down to poke one of the bugs, pulling his finger away quickly when it rattled it’s wings at the boy, making a sharp hissing sound that sounded quite menacing. However, the smile faltered when Luke felt a familiar presence in the Force, one that he hadn’t felt in a very long time. As he sat there, falling deeper and deeper into the Force, he was granted visions of what the future possibly held. Finally, a bright flash behind his eyes sent him sprawling to the ground, and when he opened them again, it was to see the anxious expressions of Kyle Katarn, Jaden Korr, Corran Horn, and his wife, Mara Jade. Funny, he hadn’t heard them enter. How long had he been in that vision?

“Master Skywalker, we felt a large disturbance coming from this room. Is everything alright?” Jaden asked, trying to help the Grand Master to his feet, but Luke’s legs weren’t cooperating. He stayed in the sitting position he managed to pull himself into, and looked at the group.

“No. No, nothing is going to be all right. There is a danger out there, a danger beyond anything we’ve ever faced before, and it’s heading right for Jaina Solo. If Jaina is captured...we must find her. Last known location is Hapes, Leia contacted me with that information a few hours ago. Jacen, Lowbacca, and Tenel Ka are with her, it seems, but...they don’t know what’s coming. Kyle, take Jaden and Kyp. Do everything you can to find them. Now.” They didn’t stay to ask what Luke had seen, the group rushed off, Corran joining them with Ben in his arms, leaving Luke alone with his wife.

“What did you see, Luke? What could be so bad that it eclipses the Yuuzhan Vong?” Mara asked, wiping away a small bead of sweat from her husband’s head. She hadn’t seen him like this in a long time, and she hated seeing him like this at all.

“Nothing less than the end of life as we know it.” Luke didn’t say anymore, and Mara didn’t ask. The end of life? That wasn’t something one heard every single day. Looking up to the sky, Mara silently prayed her former protégé was found, safely.

Indeed. I wanted to get it back to the big four from the Young Jedi Knights series, and really make this about them. At the same time, I have other factions going off doing their own thing, and at some point, they'll all collide. You're welcome, and I'm glad you enjoy this.

Chapter 3

The first thing Jagged Fel felt when he woke up was a sharp pain in his leg. Groaning, he rolled on his side, lifting his injured leg up just enough to cause the pain to become excruciating, and then brought it back down again. Escaping hadn't been without its sacrifice. He'd taken a blaster bolt to the leg, and until they got to Bacta, they really had to worry about infection setting in. Standing, Jag headed towards the cockpit, where Kell and Zyell were sitting. Both of them had managed to escape without a scratch. Sitting down, Jag looked at their coordinates. They were close to Iridonia, home of the Zabrak, humanoid creatures that were fiercely independent, and undeniably dominant. Jag didn't know why they were here, but for some reason, Iridonia struck him as the place to hide out. It wasn't the nicest planet in the world; in fact it's harsh climate, terrain, and ferocious predatory life, it was the last planet in the galaxy Jag really wanted to be right now.

"Iridonia, one of the harshest planets in the galaxy, and you choose this one. Why did we come here again, Jag?" Zyell asked, looking to the younger pilot with a quizzical look that also carried a degree of insult, and contempt. Jag simply shook his head, he had no idea why he'd picked Iridonia out of the hat, but he knew that it was one of the last places anyone would ever look for them, so it seemed like a logical choice. He didn't have an answer why, it just turned out like this.

"Well, if we don't want to be found, this is a good place to lay low. I've already contacted the authorities of the planet, let them know that we are Galactic Alliance, and we are coming in for landing. However, they think we are on vacation, so act like it. No yelling at each other, no discussing the mission. Understood?" Kell said, as he pushed the small freighter down towards the landing pads. Jag simply nodded, as long as they got him to a medical facility, he'd be fine.

The next ten minutes were filled with landing, going through customs, and getting thoroughly searched by the security guards. By the time Jag, Kell, and Zyell had made their way away from the landing zones, they'd already felt more uncomfortable about being on a planet than any other before. Jag silently wondered why the security was so tight on a planet that didn't offer any kind of resources to the Galactic Alliance. The first stop was a hospital, which put a Bacta patch on his leg and sent him on his way. Getting to the hotel was much more difficult, and getting a taxi in one of the only cities on the planet was insanely difficult. Three hours later, the group finally arrived at their hotel, tired, dirty, and ready to sleep.

"Welcome to the So..."

"Just give us three suites, here is the account. Thank you." Zyell said, cutting off the concierge before she could even get started. Frowning, the Zabrak female looked up the account, and smiled. There were enough credits here to buy the whole damn hotel three times over! She'd have to hustle as much business out of these three as possible.

"Yes, sir! We have three Ambassadorial suites on the top floor. There is a free breakfast every single day, and this hotel offers free Holonet connections, an on-site gym and spa, as well as the largest theatre on the planet. There are no showings tonight, but there is one tomorrow. A schedule has been left on your beds. If you will follow me, I'll escort you gentlemen to your rooms." Jag didn't have any complaints, and didn't even have time to speak before the Zabrak concierge was shuffling the men to their rooms. The elevator ride was short, even though they traveled up close to fifty stories. Stepping out, Jag saw that the hallways were immaculate, and perfectly lighted. The doors were keyed to thumb prints, something Jag wasn't exactly used to, but it did provide the men with a degree of security that wasn't offered in the rest of the hotel. Thumbing the pad, Jag waited until the doors opened, and almost died right there. The room was one of the best he'd ever seen. A large bed was seen in a room off to the side, as well as a pool on the balcony. He'd thought the woman had meant only one central pool, but he had his own pool. Walking in, he shut the door behind him, pulled off his clothes and lay down on the bed, asleep in a matter of seconds.

***

Jacen Solo looked at his twin sister and couldn't help but wonder what had happened during the month and a half she had been away. She still had yet to talk about where she went, but he could tell that she looked...calmer, at least. She didn't have the weight of the galaxy on her shoulders anymore, something he envied her for. As a Jedi Knight, one of the top Jedi Knights, Jacen was called upon nearly every single day to settle disputes, provide protection, and generally make everyone's life better. Jacen had lost count of how many missions he'd been on ever since Jaina had left, but they were plenty. On top of that, Tenel Ka had gotten pregnant, a part of his life he looked forward to, in fact. He couldn't wait to be a father.

Still, something else had happened to Jaina while she was away, and while none of the others could, Jacen could see it, and sense it. Whatever it was, it had been good. As Jaina looked at him and smiled, Jacen returned the smile before his comlink beeped. It was Ralen Farr, who had passed to Jacen's tutelage when Zekk had been murdered. "Yes, Ralen, what is it?"

"Master, I'm on Ord Mantell as you requested, and I'm having a bit of a problem with the riots. They don't seem to want to calm down, and every time I intervene, they try to shoot me. I need your help." Jacen quickly got the coordinates of where his young apprentice was, and with a small, apologetic smile to Jaina, pushed the Rock Dragon towards the atmosphere of Ord Mantell. While Jaina was no longer a Jedi, that didn't stop the rest of her friends, and family from being Jedi. His apprentice needed his help, and as much as he didn't want to make her uncomfortable, he knew that it was unavoidable. Setting the ship down, Jacen, Lowbacca, his apprentice Sheena, and Tenel Ka all rushed out, leaving Jaina sitting alone.

Jaina figured she had two choices at this point. Choice one was that she could sit in the ship and wait for this mini crisis to be over and then move on or she could get up off her lazy butt, and help out. Snarling, Jaina stood, grabbing two blaster pistols as she left, chasing after Jacen and the rest. Curse words flowed freely with each step she took, and when she finally caught up with them, they started up again. Ralen hadn't been wrong in calling this a riot, though in Jaina's opinion, it looked more like a military platoon than anything. Jaina couldn’t quite figure out what the rioting was about, until she saw the holovid above. Splashed across the screen was a new tax set up by the GA. Cocking her head to the side, Jaina quickly scanned the crowd, taking count of the weapons. Everyone seemed armed with blasters, or better. Ahead, she could feel Jacen accessing the Force, trying to soothe the crowd without resorting to violence. It frustrated her to no end that he continually got better at Force techniques. Aiming her two pistols at the crowd, she made sure they were set for stun. Even though she was no longer a Jedi, she wasn't going to kill unless necessary.

“Ladies and gentleman, please remain calm. There is no need or reason to panic, or to start a fight.“ Jacen called out, but it didn’t seem to do much good. In fact, even with Jacen trying to calm them down, it seemed that the crowd was getting angrier, and more frustrated. A blaster rang out, the bolt intercepted by Tenel Ka’s blade. Taking aim, Jaina fired into the crowd without thinking, and then, all chaos erupted. The crowd surged forward, guns spitting lasers at the group of Jedi, and each other, indiscriminately. The Jedi had their hands full keeping themselves alive, so Jaina had to pick up the slack. Pumping shot after shot into the crowd, she watched as men and women fell to the ground, unconscious. As each fell, one of the Jedi pulled them up and out of the mob before they could get trampled to death. Still, it wasn’t enough, and pretty soon, the Jedi had to fall back a little bit more. Jaina could see the conflict in Jacen’s eyes, and she took the decision out of his hands. Switching to full power, Jaina started firing into the crowd. There were too many unknowns to go about this the easy way, anymore. There would be deaths regardless, and there was no way around the killing anymore.

As the first man fell under her fire, she could feel Jacen’s anger towards her, but for some reason, she didn’t care. She shut herself off from the Force, and buried the twin bond so deep that Jacen wouldn’t be able to sense anything from her, anymore. She wasn’t going to apologize for her actions, especially when she knew that they would have to happen eventually. Each time she pulled the trigger, she felt less and less connection to those around her. Each shot lanced out, and each shot hit their mark without any problems. Each death hurt less as time went on. In the back of her mind, Jaina vaguely felt like she shouldn’t be doing this, but the feeling was so small it barely registered.

Lowbacca was watching Jaina with vested interest, and her lack of compassion disturbed him. This wasn’t the same Jaina he’d gone to the Academy with all those years ago. She’d changed so much since Zekk’s death and not all of it was good. As she fired into the crowd, Lowbacca tried to move the target out of the way, but he was blocked by some unknown means. It was like the person wasn’t there, which was usually indicate of a Yuuzhan Vong, but all of those were still on Zonoma Sekot. So, that meant someone out there was protecting them from the Force, now. What was going on? A man got so close to Lowbacca’s chest with a vibroblade, Lowie had no choice but to remove the hand from the wrist. He hated using this type of violence on anyone, but it seemed that Jaina had the right idea. The only way this would stop would be to kill, something that Lowie wouldn’t do.

Ralen’s lightsaber bobbed and weaved with near expert precision as he fell deeper and deeper into the force, like Jacen and Zekk had taught him. Each bolt that came his way was picked off, and each vibroblade was met with a kick or punch to the body, depending on what Ralen was in the process of doing, at the moment. However, each movement he made came just a little slower than the previous, and if he wasn’t careful, he was going to tire himself out. He wasn’t like Jacen and the others; he was still relatively new to the extended use of Force. Jacen felt his student’s diminishing Force use, and quickly bolstered the boy, adding his power to the boy’s. It wouldn’t be enough, but it would have to do for now.

Jacen’s blade was a blur, seemingly everywhere at once as he actually stepped forward. With each step he took, he blocked three or four more bolts of blaster fire, redirecting them up to the sky. Like Lowie, Jacen refused to kill anyone, even now. There were better ways. Following in his footsteps, the rest of the Jedi followed suit, and stepped forward. Before too long, the gunfire quieted and finally, ended. “As I said, there is no need for violence today. I apologize for the efforts we had to take, but we could not allow you to continue on as you were. Please return to your homes. Thank you.”

Exuding a peacefulness that Jaina could only envy, Jacen turned and glared at her, the peace gone in a heartbeat. “Jaina, what the hell was that? You do NOT fire into a crowd with full power. They are civilians, and you are a Jedi!”

“Was, Jacen! I was a Jedi, of which I now see was the biggest mistake of my life. You seem to think you’ve accomplished something today, breaking up a mob? No, tomorrow they will be rioting about something else, and you won’t be here to stop them. Don’t you dare come to me and start dictating how I operate. I am not part of your little band of merry Force users, anymore, Jacen!” Jaina growled, looking at her brother with an indignant glare. She didn’t need this, not after everything that had happened. She’d thought that coming back to her friends; her family would be a good thing. Maybe she was wrong.

“Listen, there is no need to stand here and argue about the goings on of what just happened. Jacen, Jaina is no longer bound by the rules and guidelines of the Jedi Code. Even though you may not like it, she is capable of doing what she did as a member of the Galactic Alliance military. You do not have to agree with it, that much is for certain, but she does not answer to us.” Tenel Ka said, but before Jaina could adopt a morally superior look, the woman rounded on her, something Jaina hadn’t been expecting.

“As for you, who do you think you are? You disappear for a month and a half, leaving everyone to wonder if you are dead, and then come back with this new attitude and you don’t expect people to ask questions? We are worried about you, you have changed so much in the last month it scares us. We don’t know what to do; the Jaina we knew would never do something like that, ever. And, as much as you don’t want to admit it, you still are a Jedi.” Tenel Ka slid her arm in Jacen’s and with a shake of her head, turned and walked away. Not the reunion she was expecting, but it could have gone worse.

“You used to be someone we Padawans looked up, Mistress Solo. But now…you’ve become a bitter woman who will do anything to cut down those around her. Maybe you should be asking yourself if Zekk would want you to be like this.” Ralen’s word’s cut deeper than anything Tenel Ka or Jacen had said, and Jaina couldn’t answer why. As Lowbacca, Sheena, and Ralen walked away, leaving Jaina alone once again, she wondered how much she had changed, and how much the others around her had changed as well.

Poor Jaina, she's lost much that was important to her, and those who love her are spending their time as travel agents in guilt trips rather than trying to help. It'll be interesting to see how she starts putting things back together.

It'll be a little bit of a trip, and there will be plenty of twists and turns along the way. I kinda wanted to have her friends try to, but can't, understand why she did what she did, and so they resort to being angry, or frustrated.

Well, that would be ruining the big secret if I told you. But, fear not, you will find out. Thanks for the replies, and more will be coming soon.

Love it so far - can't wait for more. Please add me to your update list.

One would think that Tenel Ka, Jacen & Lowbacca would be more understanding of what Jaina is going through, with everything she has been through, to finally find happiness with Zekk and then have him killed. Did they really think that she would still be the same old Jaina? She has every right to be angry and bitter.

I do hope though that once Jaina's team and Jag's team meet up that Jag can help her through her pain (and keep her from upcoming danger).
