Darth_Guy posted:No (see: Alan Keyes and Clarence Thomas). But then again, they might be so crazy they voted for Reagan in 2000.

Jabba-wocky posted:No, the fact that they've had their blackness revoked for self-hate means they're not black people.

So, everyone, I wanted to address the content of this post and the exchanged that followed. I had originally meant this to be one of the stock "lol, there's no such thing as black Republicans" joke. That, in itself, was ill-advised, but not nearly so much as my trying to continue the joke when specific black conservatives started being named. To be frank, I do in fact know a number of black conservatives in general, and Bush-supporters (04 & 00) in particular, many in my own family. As a matter of record, while I don't care for Clarence Thomas in particular, I am actually quite amenable to the black social conservatives who vote conservative, being of essentially the same religious stripe. Among the more notable names this group would include are Alan Keyes, gospel singer Donnie McClurkin, and former rappers Mase and (ironically, given how this whole thing started) MC Hammer. It was certainly not my intent to offend or be in bad taste. In all seriousness, these people get more than enough flack as it is, and as Suzuki points out, encouraging this sort of classification of people into monolithic, homogeneous groups does no one any good. I do sincerely apologize to all parties, and ask that each of you recognize the error of the exchange.
