Yeah, Rogue Planet was pretty bad. It's the worst book I can remember reading.

I can't think of my worst EU moment right now... hmm, this is going to be a tough one.

Well, for starters, the whole Cestus Deception book sucked, and this is coming from someone who enjoys The Crystal Star. The plot was terrible, the characterization was sick...and there was like a big dance thing and it was weird. For the book with Kit Fisto playing a main part (for our Kit Fisto fans) it did not live up to the coolness of Fisto.

This next part, I suppose has to be highlighted, since it deals with Callista and not many people have read that part yet:

I've just had a whole problem with how Callista "came to be" in her new physical form. She took Crix's body (gosh, it's been a while and the names all meld) after Crix sacrificed herself to save Luke, Crix's guy and I believe the universe. I can understand Luke falling for Callista's "essense" within the ship, but when it came to Callista popping out in a new body, it seemed to convienant for me. Then how she could only use the darkside if she wanted to touch the force. talk_hand I mean seriously, it has always bothered me.

That being said, I'm still up for her, Mara, Ahnaka, and Gariel to have a big battle royale over who's best for Luke!

I could probably add more, but it's early in the morning, and I'm very snarky this early. I'll probably have more later. Good question!

My vote for the worst EU book is a tie between "the Truce at Bakura" and "The Courtship of Princess Leia." It is rare that I do not finish a book that I have picked up, but both of these sent me running for the bookshelf in search of intelligent literary relief. Whata waste of paper! Oh yeah, "Jedi Trial" and "Cestus Deception" were abysmal as well.

This is just a reminder that the newest Timothy Zahn book comes on this Tuesday Outbound Flight is a hardcover (groan!), however it's Timothy Zahn and is suppose to be a great book. I also believe there is going to be an abridged book on CD release of the title as well, I'll let you all know if we get it at the library.

It serves as the backstory to the Thrawn books, and is set (I believe) prior to Episode II. Anakin and Obi-Wan are both in it, along with the real Jorus C'Baoth and most certainly a large cast of new Jedi.

I also believe in some way Survivor's Quest is a companion to it. SQ is a Post-ROTJ book, but it takes place in and around the crash of the outbound flight

I just finished The Rise of Darth Vader. WOO What a great book. I read the abridged version so it wasn't to long. I hope we can discuss this at length at the March meeting. Has anyone else read it?

New Legacy news...

The "blurb" for Bloodlines, the second book in the Legacy series by Karen Traviss was posted as well as the cover featuring my fav. bounty hunter.

Here's the blurb (highlight to read in case of spoilers)

Civil war looms as the fledgling Galactic Alliance confronts a growing number of worlds set on rebellion -- and the approaching war is tearing the Skywalker and Solo families apart. Han's Corellian roots and Luke's dedication to the Jedi order are driving a wedge between the families. Han and Leia's children, Jacen and Jaina, are soldiers in the Galactic Alliance's campaign to crush the insurgents. Luke and Mara are unable to protect their son Ben from war. The quest of an assassin draws out a dreaded name from the past: Boba Fett. And in the new galactic order, friends and enemies are no longer what they seem...

And a link to the article with the blurb and cover.

Is it May yet? praying

I really don't like the cover art for the new SW novels. First, "The Rise of Darth Vader" and now "Betreyal" and "Bloodlines". I think they're boring, unartistic, and just plain ugly. I'd take the various NJO cover art over these new covers any day -- or even better, the Japanesse cover art.

I know what you mean about the new covers. And we can't all be up to the Japanese standards. Those things are just... fantastic. I guess in the end, I don't care WHAT it looks like on the outside, I jsut care about what's inside. I did like the Dark Nest covers for some reason though. *shrugs*

I don't care about the silly covers, I just want the books to come out (and live up to my undying and always way-to-high expectations). I wonder when Outbound Flight turns into a paperback. I always forget the waiting period.

The Dark Nest covers are pretty cool. The simplicity of the new covers isn't what bothers me, it's this crappy 3D-Photorealism crap they are trying to do. It looks awful.

I can't find a release date for Outbound Flight on paperback. It's like it hasn't even been announced yet. Weird.

I don't know the turn around for Del Rey pub. but Scholastic (the Harry Potter pubs) are just now announcing Half Blood Prince in paperback release for June 25th for the US. The hardback came out almost a year before that (I went to see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory opening night then rushed over to ge the book at midnight so it had to be earily July).

It really depends on demand (how did the hardback sell? would we sell more if it was paperback) and the fesability (is this book going to stand UP to paperbacking? I don't know how thick it is but if they can turn the HP books into paperbacks why not OF) I guess.

But yeah... /business mode silly *has slept maybe 6 hours since Thursday*
