Of course there are fans all over the world, in Asia, Europe, South America... But the point is, the mid-west is full of people who are willing to travel great distances for something like a Star Wars convention. That's why two have been held in Indianapolis. Indy is only the 13th largest city in the country. There are much larger cities where it could have been held, even in the midwest. The reason it was held here, twice, is because the Star Wars fanbase is huge, and the demographic is ripe with die-hard fans with loads of disposable income.
Nobody is saying the Midwest is the Star Wars capital in the world, just that it's a great location to hold a convention.
