Which would you rather be? I was pondering this as I walked through Target yesterday. I'm currently re-reading the Harry Potter books. Both sides have their advantages and disadvantages and I'm not sure which I'd choose. Here are so pros and cons I've compiled, feel free to add any others you can think of!

JEDI

Pros:

Lightsabers
Force powers
Authority figure (to a degree)
Living in an era of advanced technology


Cons:

NO SEX
Limited choice on clothing
Certain responsibilities associated with duty


WIZARD

Pros:

Magical abilities
Fairly close-knit community
Different job opportunities
Quidditch
British accent
SEX


Cons:

"Normal" world thinks you're a freak
Owl mail = lots of owl poop
Unforgivable curses

I think the answer is pretty easy for me: I would definitely go for Wizard. Main reason? If you are a Jedi, you are supposed to be a part of a order that protects people, and you are subject to decisions made by the council, like "go over to that world and restore peace". As a Wizard (HP universe), I can be a "average person" but with awesome powers, relax in the evening with family and friends, hold down a regular job, and not worry too much that someone is going to shoot me with a blaster or stick a lightsaber through me.

Adventure and excitement is great and all, but most days I'd rather just be able to kick back and live a relatively normal life. At least as a wizard I would have the choice between grand dangerous adventures and a normal life.

I will do a slight edit to acknowledge that not all Jedi are always off on grand adventures and the like. It just seems that Wizards (in the HP world) can live much simpler lives, probably because there are a lot more of them. And though there is the Ministry of Magic and all, it's more like a democratic government than a military style council (i.e. the Ministry of Magic can decide new laws and stuff that need to be followed, but they can't point and say "you need to go there and do X").

Excellent point Tim.
My thought. I would like to be a Jedi for many reasons. One would include rescuing people and planets from evil. On the other hand a great and powerful wizard could do the same. i Guess the biggest difference in my eyes would be temptation of turning Sith Im not sure how much one would worry about joining Voldermolnt. Both worlds have there ups and downs as John stated in his post but when it came down to it, Im not sure I can answer this truthfully, I mean truthfully to myself. I would love either life.

I still don't really know which I would be. I think I like the idea of a simple wizarding life though.

Instead of specifically a Jedi, how about any character in the SW universe? Could be bounty hunter, pilot, moisture farmer....anything?

I've never been one to give two craps about what "normal" people think of me. And I don't think anyone else should ever worry about it or base any of their life decisions or choices on such things either.

So, I guess I'd have to go with Wizard. Oh, and also because as a Jedi you're not supposed to have sex; "Now, Lito-Wan...you can only look at Jennifer and appreciate her beauty, voluptuousness, and sex appeal. BUT...you CANNOT touch!"

The HELL with that!! ; )
