Yep, just another reason why the Imperial Army needs to be featured more than the Stormtroopers. Han also seems pretty impressed by what you can apparently get for money.
More... A K-7 security droid (from Goroth: Slave of the Empire) with a barrel sticking out of its chest: ...and another badass droid (from Black Ice):
This old image just brings me such joy. The early days, when a young EnsignNick22 took the first steps towards becoming a Fleet Junkie admiral. --Adm. Nick
Also, this lovely triptych depicting popular leisure activities in the GFFA (all by Chris Trevas, from Heroes & Rogues): Making fun of vegetarian underwater creatures... Cleaning glasses... Ambushing stormtroopers... (Look at their faces... that totally is their favorite hobby, hers at least. Idealists my shebs.)
Speaking of the Imperial Army, I feel Imperial tanks never get enough love: However, I feel that is in the design of alien species that WEG is truly superior to more modern Star Wars works. Especially with non-sentient species: instead of some generic looking cats, lizards, and birds, you had animal designs that were both incredibly alien in appearance and yet very plausibly adapted to their environment and lifestyle. Basically anything from Alien Encounters and Creatures of the Galaxy is a treat, though here are a few of my favorites from the latter:
I just love this one: From the WEG books I own, I'd say Platt's Starport Guide has the best illustrations.
What is also nice about the WEG art is that thy had a sense of humor. A strange one at times, but the levity is nice in a day and age where a lot of rpg art is trying to be hardcore all the time.
Is that............................ ........... ...... ... now I've seen everything. From this moment forth, nothing I see will ever shock or surprise me again.
Jello you just waited too long. I agree it's hard for anyone right now to go out and track down WEG books. However about 10 years ago you could pick up practically any WEG book except the most rare on ebay for $5 to $10. I managed to put together nearly the entire WEG collection at $5 a book.
Is it sad or am I just naive when I say I'm not sure what's going on in that picture? Looks like an octopus stripper or something...
I can't love this topic enough... nostalgia for the win, WEG shall return... can't fans refound a company, take same name and so on?
My god, I would kill to get my hands on some WEG books. The ones about the Empire, the Rebels and the SpecForces especially.
Gorefiend, I always liked to believe that pictured showed either an ISB or an Ubiqtorate agent working in conjunction with the army. And here's my choice for a cool WEG species:
Not a WEG image, but the following image has a very strong nostalgic connection to my youth! Many an hour were spent looking at this screen and analzying the battle plan! Plus I always loved that shot of the Rebel Fleet to the left. --Adm. Nick
X-Wing was fun but I spent most of my time taking orders from this guy: I still play Tie Fighter now and then (the enhanced version).
Elliot!! (sorry, I just always thought the TIE Fighter briefing guy should be called Elliot. It fits.)
