Unfortunately, as long as big oil is around to make a difference, they will hoard all the resources and charge top dollar for it and won't even blink about not tossing you or I a bone.
You can make a small difference - don't fuel up at Mobil. Where Mobil's prices go, so follows the rest of the industry.
On a brighter note, Chevy is literally coming out with the first viable electric car that plugs into your home garage outlet. It's called the Chevy Volt and it's slated for a 2010 debut. You get 40 miles off the charge, then it switches to a backup power source. Can't remember what that power source is. I'm curious to see what it will sell for? (probably $35G)
(God, I hate the oil companies!!!!!  )

This grand army smashed the Confederates at Gettysburg just 14 months after the battle of Puebla, essentially ending the Civil War.
Union forces were then rushed to the Texas/Mexican border under General Phil Sheridan, who made sure that the Mexicans got all the weapons and ammunition they needed to expel the French. American soldiers were discharged with their uniforms and rifles if they promised to join the Mexican Army to fight the French. The American Legion of Honor marched in the Victory Parade in Mexico, City.
It might be a historical stretch to credit the survival of the United States to those brave 4,000 Mexicans who faced an army twice as large in 1862. But who knows?
Wow! I never knew that. 
Though I would have to be slightly picky here and say that the Army of the Potomac didn't quite exactly smash the rebs at Gettysburg. The rebs were actually giving us a good run for our money, as usual up to that point. But we got lucky on 2 fronts, 1: we had good high ground to protect ourselves on, and 2: the rebs were dumb enough to not only try to take it from us (never attack uphill), but also try to march through a 1 mile open field in one more desperate attack - open to cannon barrage and all sorts of nasty ballistics. Besides, even though the rest of the war put the rebs on the defensive the war was still quite a bloody affair and raged for another 21 months.
And that's your Civil War history lesson of the day...

Alternate fuel sorces? Gas/electric hybrids? What took the automakers so long?
By the way, the really sad thing is if you think the prices are ever going back down... Think again! The harsh reality is we are running out of oil.

Very true.
Now, take Brazil, for example. They are completely independent of oil. They don't depend on oil at all. The have cars (GM cars, mind you) that run on nothing but pure ethanol. They get it from sugar canes. We, in America, have sage grass growing all over the frickin place which is another good source of ethanol. But does anyone take advantage of it? All we have to do is grow the frickin stuff and get the auto industry to mass produce engines that run on it.

We're staying off site for Media West Con, and when we parked at the hotel at 9:50 Saturday morning, gas across the street was 3.99.
At 11:30 AM gas had JUMPED to 4.18!!!
