So our website went down today due to a huge power outage in Vancouver. I called the hosting company and they do not know when power will be restored. Here's the info from GlobalTV's website in Vancouver

BC Hydro said it could be several hours before power is restored to a large swath of the downtown core that lost power around 9:30 this morning.

"Probably a couple of hours, but it could be longer than that," said Hydro spokeswoman Susan Danard. "It's not a short-term problem, I'm afraid."

Vancouver police warned motorists to stay out of the downtown core if they can because the outage has affected traffic signals.

Danard said the power outage was caused by a failed circuit in the 500 block of Richards St.
She said there was some type of fire at the site, which required the area to be ventilated before crews could get in to do their work.

Once crews get to the failed circuit, said Danard, Hydro should be able to provide a better estimate of when power might be restored.

"There was a fire. We're not sure what caused the problem," said Danard. "Our No. 1 priority is public safety. At the moment we're trying to get the smoke out of the area so we can get in there and do the repairs."

Danard said BC Hydro is still trying to figure out how may customers have been affected by the outage.
Roughly speaking, said Danard, the outage has affected buildings from Nelson to Burrard Inlet, between Main and Burrard.

BC Hydro's own downtown corporate office building is one of those without power.
The Vancouver Sun's newsroom at 200 Granville is also without power.
In a news release, Vancouver police spokesman Const. Tim Fanning said "traffic is a mess" in the downtown core because of power failures to traffic signals.

The statement said police have called in Traffic Authority members to help direct traffic.
TransLink stated in a news release that Waterfront Station has been evacuated but SkyTrain and SeaBus customers are still being allowed in.

According to the release, bus service has been delayed throughout the downtown core as trolley bus service is directed away from the affected area.

At 12pm, BC Hydro's website listed 18 separate power outages currently affecting the downtown core -- up from eight just an hour earlier.

In all, according to the site, the outage is affecting about 4,400 customers.

However, some of those customers are large office towers, so the number of offices affected is likely much greater.

Hopefully it will be up soon.
