Alright! Having finally got the server issues sorted out, Census & Games has the all-clear to start a banner open call.
So here it is. There is no deadline for this open call, so feel free to take as long as you need. The creator of a banner that is selected and uploaded will receive one week's worth of VIP colours. All banners selected will be routinely rotated in and out. I may chose to close the open call when I feel we have enough banners. I may not. 
The rules are simple.
1. Create a banner that looks great.
2. Use a theme that you think is applicable to Census & Games: i.e. community; choice; polls; voting; competing; games. Whatever!
3. Be sure to include the text "Theforce.net" and "Census & Games"
4. A style sheet is not compulsory, but it will greatly increase your chances of having it uploaded.
Be sure to check out the Official Banner Making thread in Comms for tips.
You may submit your banner in this thread as a work-in-progress for the users to give feedback on, or PM it to me for my input.
Lastly, good luck, and I hope to see some great banners in here very soon!
I love doing stylesheets, so do not worry if you don't have one. I can help out. Also, if you had wanted to PM somebody your work-in-progress, feel free to PM me, rather than Boogie. -—Tyi

If I have enough time/get around to it/can be bothered I'll try to create one. It worked once.
Although my banners are really weird. But weird's what we need here. I'll try to slide one out for such an awesome forum.

Very nice. Very, very nice. The only thing I would suggest is to make the text bigger on both banners. Maybe it's because my resolution is 1400x900, but it's a little tricky to read.
But otherwise, I'm really happy with them. Well done!

Very cool, Tyi. Different, and very interesting to look at. I love your thread titles as well.
The only problem I have is as with Zebra's: I don't really like the text. If you could make it plainer and easier to read, then I'd say it's a goer.

You actually read them?  Different was my goal. Thanks.
So... what is plainer and easier text? I don't actually see the, err, problem here. The style is purposeful, it's large enough, and it's easily readable from here.

Tyi, that's a wonderfully unique style for a banner! Well done
Dan-- Okay, I'm having a bit of trouble with the text. I can't set my screen resolution to 1400 X 900 so I can't guess what the screen looks like enough to fix the banner so it looks good with both your settings and the screen settings I originally created the banner in. Maybe if you post a screen cap of what you're seeing it will give me some perspective. Other than that.... I dunno if I can fix it the way you want

Tyi - Well perhaps I should be blunter. I'm just a fan of unadorned text. I don't really like the brown shadow or the 'splattered' nature of the text. If it were similar, but 'cleaner' then it'd be great.
Zebra - it's not so much an issue of getting the text to work in my own resolution (that would be a bit selfish, no? ) that just making it a bit bigger. My resolution means that I can see the whole banner, including all of the back image. What I'd advise is getting the text size to be somewhere between what you have, and what is currently in the Census banner.

Thankyou! Hehe, I don't spose you could try slightly smaller text now? I'd also like to see what it looks like if you just moved the text away from the edges and more into the middle. I know it seems like I'm making you jump through hoops here, but I think the banners are both excellent and really worthy of being uploaded and I just want them to be as good as they can be before we do.

Update
And now we're all jolly.
I love to say it (I do??) but I agree with Boogie, my darling Zebra. The text is a bit... in your face now. You oversized the meal, when large was all we needed.
