Yes, Pluto should be considered a planet and the decision to demote it to a moon should be looked at with suspicion. How much was this decision based on scientifical information and how much was on the kick backs the scientists were going to get from all the money that would be made having to redo tons of textbooks, science books, television programs, etc.

Other. As much as we now know, space science of any kind is still practically in its infancy. Who knows what new information we might find that changes our current definitions? Pluto is what it is (whatever that may be tongue ) and is quite unconcerned with whatever we decide to call it. My opinion is that we still don't really understand our own solar system half as well as we think we do, and aren't particularly qualified to say what's a planet and what's not. (I personally see a whole lot more differences between Mercury and Jupiter than I do Mercury and Pluto . . . ) I'm betting that this latest change will itself be modified somehow within a few decades.

No

I lean towards not caring but in this day and age I would assume that they have greater knowledge regarding these things. And greater technology. It will be hard to forget that it is a planet, having grown up with it, but still....

I would like it to stay, purely for sentimental and historical reasons, but if the IAU comes up with a concrete and acceptable definition that didn't include Pluto then I would be happy with that.

That's no moon! It's a dwarf planet!

And see, even there they aren't being politically correct. It should be a vertically challenged planet. Don't these scientists know anything?
