It came pre-installed on the new pc I bought last fall. I actually called Dell to see if thy could put xp on it instead, they said their contract with Microsoft prohibits that.
All in all, Vista isn't as bad as I feared. Takes a bit getting used to, and treats you like a 5 year old too often.
I'd never put it on my old laptop, though, unless I wanted to convert it to a worthless paper-weight.

Yes unfortunately, however, whenever I buy my iMac in a few months, I won't have to worry about it.

Nope, still have an XP but I will be getting Vista with my new laptop... unless I tell my dad that I want a Mac like my sister's. Still undecided.

I have it on my laptop and it's great. I've never had a single problem with it. Far more secure, I've not once had any viruses or spyware problems, whereas this desktop which has XP is constantly getting attacked with various nasties. I'd love to get Vista on this computer but my husband (it really belongs to him, I just use it more) refuses to put it on, though it's not because of any dislike for it, his laptop has Vista, he just doesn't want the hassle of upgrading lol.

Unfortunately, yes. It's nearly killed my laptop. I had my brother partition my hard drive, so most of the time I run Linux. I use Windows XP on the family desktop.

I've been using it since it came out on my laptop and home machine. Although I had to do a few work arounds to get it's perfermance up to spec (which was fixed with SP1) I've been pretty satisfied with it. Much better compatability with newer technogies that are emerging these days. With all new Windows OS's there are things that annoy me, but all in all, I like it. But, as with any Windows OS, you've gotta wipe the factory installed OS and reinstall clean to get it to run solid. Also, Vista is a memory hog, to be sure... especially the 64 bit version, so load up on it.
