I just checked some of the key details (just the deathlist, really) in a couple of the threads here from people who had already read it.

I went into seclusion for a week to remain spoiler free. My mother had heard the spoilers, though, and so I had to bend to her every will to prevent her from telling me. All in good fun, though. I'm glad I was completely spoiler-free: so much better!

Spoiler-free.
Of course, I haven't read the book yet, and I'm now spoiled, so whatever.

I did none of the above as I avoided spoilers and read the book the night it came out.

Option 2. I was 99.9999999% spoiler free. It wasn't a person who spoiled me, though -- I was reading an article on the spoilers in a newspaper (Germany's "Bild", a tabloid rag if ever there was one, I should have known better ) . I started reading the article, which started out being about describing what the spoiler source looked like and speculation as to where it could have come from. Unfortunately, without warning, they just spurted out the big one
Pulsies Edit: highlighted spoiler removed by request

I'm going to have to warp option 1 around a bit: I don't care enough about Harry Potter at the moment to avoid or not avoid any spoilers...
But I still voted for #1.

I didn't hunt for spoilers, but I did read the leaked version (the JPG images of all pages).
Stayed up all night, and half the following night, to finish it... Almost fell asleep at work...

I also 'received' and read the book early. I would've waited for the hard copy, but I was deadset on avoiding spoilers this time. You see, I've got a friend who spoiled the first six Harry Potter books for me, and I didn't want that to happen with the seventh.
Suffice to say, when I finished reading, I gave him a call.
