The Draft Classic: The Comic Book Draft All-Star Draft
|
The Comic Book Draft is a draft like no other. The first on these boards to be a non-Star Wars Draft, and it still goes strong, this will be the seventh installment. But, this is no ordinary installment. This is the All-Star Draft. What that means, is that the GMs and Judges for this draft are participating because they were invited to participate. That means we should see the highest level of competent drafting, arguing, team constructing, and overall awesomeness.
Before we go too much further, let’s take a moment to look at the Comic Book Draft Hall of Fame:
Darth_Deception (Winner of 1st draft)
SLAVE2 (Winner of 2nd draft)
Shadow_of_Durron (Winner of 3rd draft)
BartSimpson-SithLord (Winner of 4th and 5th drafts)
Zizz (Winner of 6th draft)
Three of these Hall-of-Fame Members will participate in this draft. And the winner of this draft will receive one week of VIPship, a reserved spot in the next draft, as well as choice of drafting position, and enshrinement in to the ub3r Comic Book Draft Hall-of-Fame! The runner-up in this draft will receive 24 hours of VIPship, and everyone else who loses will be game banned for 24 hours.
This will differ from most drafts. I’m not going to explain how everything works. If you’re new to drafts, watch and take notes. Go read another thread to figure out how it works if you must. Speaking of those, here’s a lsit:
Previous draft threads:
New Game: THE COMIC BOOK CHARACTER DRAFT!
The Comic Book Draft, Episode II: Attack of the Heroes!
The Comic Book Draft Episode III: Revenge of the Villains
The Comic Book Draft Episode IV: A New Mutant
The Comic Book Draft Episode V: Excelsior!
The Comic Book Draft Episode VI: Return of the Multiverse
Now, to what’s different in this draft:
1) No Conferences. Everyone will play everyone else round robin. And then we’ll put the top four in the playoffs.
2) No Power List. You can pick whoever you want, whenever you want.
3) You’ll be drafting for sixteen rounds. You will start 12 of your selections.
4) You will get three “preps” per round.
Now, we’ve got the rules, so let’s meet the players.
First, the GMs.
1. Shadow_of_Durron
Known as “shurron” in the draft threads, he is, to put it simply, an icon. He stepped in to commish the first Comic Book Draft, repeated that for the second, before coming on board and winning the third. He’s proven to be an excellent judge, and able to argue just about anything with skill and precision. He’s a veteran in almost every draft, notching wins in the Jedi, Star Fighter, Comic Book, Video Game, and Movie/TV Drafts. Not including Shurron would have been a joke.
2. BartSimpson-SithLord
Known as “BaSSiL” in the draft threads, he is, to this point, the only two-time winner of this draft. He’s also got experience judging and commishing this draft. He’s proven well versed in Marvel and excellent researcher of DC. He’s also a veteran of the Jedi, Animated, Movie/TV, Average Joe, and Video Game Drafts, but his only wins are in this draft.
3. MandaloreYak
Quite possibly the most knowledgeable participant in Comic Book Draft History to not win one. Known for his sometimes illogical burns, and the jokes that are associated with them, yak has also been instrumental in several characters finally getting their due, such as Despero (remember when he lost to Batman). He’s also a veteran of the Jedi and Animated drafts, and runs his own off-site draft as well.
4. EmpireForever
Once known as the “Colts” of the Drafting world, both he and Peyton Manning were able to shed their reputations for having great regular seasons combined with playoff collapses when he put together a win in the Movie/TV Draft. A constant threat in the Comic Book Draft, EmpireForever always puts together a team that can compete for the championship. The question is not “if” he’ll win one of these, but rather “when”.
5. –Ace-
One of the hidden gems among the best drafters in the history of this draft. -Ace- seems to have a knack for quietly competing, but never being quite flashy enough to get the attention the others get. Still, he’s among the most talented at finding great steals, arguing his guys up, and never settling for a poor decision. He might be here mainly on potential, but it’s the potential that can win it all.
6. MarcusP2
Another draft vet, this guy has proven the ability to do it all. He’s taken over teams mid-draft and lead them deep into the playoffs, and he’s drafted teams that are able to give every other team on the board a run for their money. He’s also a previous winner of the video game draft, earning him the distinction of being the only mod to ever win a draft.
7. Axle-Starweilder
Axle-Starweilder is a throw back, paying homage to the good teams he built in the first couple of drafts. While his success might not be known to the recent draftnicks, he’s well known among the established drafting community. He’s a long time veteran of the old drafts, including Jedi and Star Fighter, and might, just might, hold the record for most drafts entered without a win.
8. Zizz
Zizz surprised a lot of folks by winning the last draft. A humble fellow, he almost didn’t accept an invite to GM this draft. But we couldn’t not have the defending champion. Able to find steals and exploit the nuances of the current judges, he’s developed skills that other GMs would love to have. Of course, Zizz is probably best known for his outlandishly long team names.
And, there you have it. Our 8-man field.
And, our judges:
1. yodaminch
Coming a long way from when he was known primarily for “minch’s Magneto manlove”, yodaminch has been a staple of the judging table for a few drafts now. Of course, he has a history of GMing as well, leading a few teams in the early drafts to top-four finishes. He’s shown a great ability to listen, be patient, and respect the views of GMs as a judge, something we all should admire.
2. Despised1
I’ve been promised that this guy will be back by the time we finish drafting. He better be! Anyways, we all know Despised, and we’ve missed him recently. But he’s been around since Comic Book Draft #1, and even before that with some Jedi Draft appearances. Another guy willing to take as many looks as is needed to get the call right. Welcome back, D1, welcome back!
3. The_Chim
The_Chim has experience in just about every draft, and has done everything, including GMing, judging, and commishing. A name we all know and love (or love to hate), he’s sure to add a unique element to the draft.
And there’s your judges. I, of course, am the commish. I’ll have the randomized order up in a bit (Zizz, I won’t give you #1 pick this time, we’ll save that for the next draft)

3) You can only do a trade involving a future pick once.
Yay for reading the rules!
Inty/Tyi does this count as a full rotation for the Comics Draft in the Draft Cycle or will there be another normal one after this? Because it is kinda exclusive as to who gets to take part in this particular one. I thought that was one of the points of putting it on a schedule in the first place, so things like that didn't happen.

Oh, Inty, you son of a gun, putting me at the top like this.
I will have a quick glance over the list, even though I am quite certain of my pick.
Pick in a sec.
All right, I've always wanted to do this.
with the #1 pick overall, Return to Mundo Fine takes Toad.
Wait, no, can I get a reSpawn on that?
Welcome back to the top, big guy.

Eh, no it's not that, it's just that I don't really like Spawn is all. He is a good pick, just not my style I suppose. I had you pegged at him or X-Man though, so no surprises.

No? Well I suppose I know who was then, no surprise in him either.
What does surprise me is you not liking Spawn but still taking him EF, you usually draft from the heart.
