Well since I live in New Jersey and have been in half the stores in his movies...the one i've been in most is probubly the music store in chasing amy. I've been to asbury park alot too. Clerks and Dogma are the best written ones...mallrats has a certain good feel to it Brodie man snootchie bootchies! Chasing Amy has also a good feel to it, the song she sang was pretty good considering she wrote it. I like Jay and Silent Bob strike back the least but its still funny. It's only really funny the first time I saw it, after that I got bored. I'm going with AmGod. I mean Dogma. Clerks comes next cause I always compare my mornings to Dantes'. PLUS its the best written realistic peice of art in awhile. (excluding Tarantino films and Star Wars).

Have only seen Jay and Silent Bob, so it wins by default.

it's a real toss up between chasing amy, dogma and clerks for me...clerks is the classic, but dogma and chasing amy are so intelligently written and have a deeper message to deliver....imo

I do know there was a Kevin Smith who played for the Dallas Cowboys, but surely it's not the same dude. Is it?

RE: What's your favorite Kevin Smith film?
Kevin Smith is a young film-maker from New Jersey. He is not the guy who played for the Cowboys.
He became famous after his super-low-budget black and white independent film
Clerks
was a hit at a bunch of film festivals. Telling the story of a day in the life of a convenience store clerk and his video-store buddy, the movie was had great dialogue, was funny as hell, and was incredibly vulgar.
Its success prompted Smith to write
Dogma
, a comedic critique of the Catholic Church. But it wouldn't be made into a film for years.
Smith's second film was
Mallrats
, a 20-something vulgar slapstick comedy. It had a significantly higher budget than
Clerks
, but also faced problems because of studio interference. It's an incredibly funny movie, with more great dialogue, but it is decidedly childish. Still, it's one of my favourites. It bombed in theatres. I mean
really bombed
.
After
Mallrats
, Smith took a more serious turn in his film-making with
Chasing Amy
, a comedy-drama about a man who falls in love with a lesbian. Dealing with serious issues such as social divisions, love, and best friends, it was immediately seen as his most mature film to date. Nevertheless, it was still roaringly funny, and vulgar as hell.
Finally after gaining back some credit that he'd lost with
Mallrats
, Smith could go on to make
Dogma
. It was the story of two banished angels who find a way to re-enter heaven, and the story of a jaded Catholic woman who must stop them from doing so, and regain her faith in the process. The film was insanely controversial, with hundreds of devout Catholics condemning it without even seeing it. It was a funny movie, to be sure, but unbalanced.
Smith's most recent effort was the summer comedy
Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back
. It was the first movie devoted entirely to the characters of Jay and Silent Bob (played by Smith), idiot drug dealers who have had cameos in each film. The movie was totally vulgar, totally slapstick, and made fun of Hollywood in a serious way. Totally hilarious, it had the dubious honour of being the worlds 'most-vulgar' movie, beating out the former champion,
South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut
.
Each of Kevin Smith's films to date have been set in the same common world, the 'View Askew-niverse', named after his company. They feature cross-movie cameos, references, and in jokes galore (especially in the Jersey movies). But now, Smith has resolved not to make any more movies in the View Askewniverse, and instead direct his talents towards more serious films.
That sum it up good enough? Go see his movies!

Whimper you forgot to mention the View Askew comics that are written by smith and set between the movies. for example Chasing Dogma is set between Chasing AMy and Dogma and explains how the blunt knights arrive in illanois (sp.)
Also not mentioned was the comics he has written for DC and Marvel. What can i say the guy is a genious.
Oh and one last thing, how many people knew (before i posted this) that Mallrats is set the day before Clerks?

Dogma for me, While i reckon clerks is a bloody brilliant film, i still love dogma for it's content. mallrats & j&sbsb were just funny all round, but i still love Dogma for it's content

Well since I found the official poll now...
Chasing Amy was mine. I identify with the struggles that Holden McNeil has in his romantic life, and it often reminds me of my life at times. It's very well written and very funny. In addition, this is probably Jason Lee's second best performance behind Mallrats.

Hands down, one of favorites of all time, much less Kevin Smith movies. I was introduced to it by my friend when I was in Korea and have been hooked ever since.
B&*(&, what you don't know about me you could pretty much squeeze in the Grand f#$%^^% Canyon.
I love that movie!

If you ever worked in a small store or grocery store like that, you would understand that he did not make up any of those characters. People really are that dumb and shop.
