I was just reading through the posts in here, thinking this thread was made maybe a few weeks ago or something... then I read this post:
The first Godfather. I won the trilogy on DVD, and waited watching them till I had read the Puzo book, and it was AMAZING! II is a close second, but in my mind the Godfather is one of the best, most faithful book-to-screen adaptations I've ever seen. Let's hope LOTR does as well.
that's when I looked at the dates on this thread and realized how old it is... 
anyway... my vote is for the first Godfather.

The Godfather Part II is an amazing piece of film and is FFD's best movie, although the Godfather is a close follow-up.
