Social threads don't really hurt anything. The ratio of social threads to non-social threads is so low that you should be able to scroll right past it if you don't like the idea.
Social threads are good to help build a community in a forum.
Also, if you guys haven't seen it, there's a new sticky thread in this forum with information on how to nominate someone who you think would be a good choice for the new CT forum moderator. The thread will only be there for a day, so don't procrastinate too much.

I don't think this social thread will hurt the CT forum in the slightest. I think a new banner contest would be good for this forum along with some games for VIPship.
