I'm very puzzled about Coruscant.

WHY do the citizens of Coruscant celebrate at the end of Return of the Jedi? It makes no sense! Coruscant is the capital of the Empire. It's like Bush dying in a war overseas then the citizens of Washington DC tearing down the Lincoln monument and starting fireworks in celebration.
If anything, they should start a counterattack against the weakened Rebel Alliance. The Empire can live without one Death Star and a few SDs.

It's more like, say, France during the Second World War. Germany occupied the place for years, but the French were damn happy to see the back of them when the war was over.
The people on Coruscant will be ruled over by the Empire, but that doesn't mean they have to like the situation.

Just because it is does not mean that its people live a democractic or luxerious life.
They are still suffering as are people of other planets under Imperial control.

But as for the thread's question the general public hated the Empire, throughout history the few have held the many in these situations
Although it's usually this fact that eventually leads to "the few's" downfall as they are eventually overwhelmed by all their people turning against them when their gaurd is down

hm..I've got the feeling you guys don't want to hear the EU answer to this problem, right?
EDIT: ahm... and I mean the Expanded Universe answer to the Corsucant problem... not the European Union answer to the Bush problem
