	Greetings all, You may have read the thread in Communications detailing the new Focus Groups we're creating to deal with specific problems on the boards. One of the JC's first focus groups, led by myself and EV, will be devoted to discussing the strife between purists and completists in the movie forums and what mods and members alike can do to restore balance to the Force (.net). We can have up to 12 members in the group, and there are several spots left available for volunteers. So, if you have ideas you'd like to discuss with others in a controlled environment meant to produce specific results, please PM either EV or myself and let us know you'd like to be included. For those who don't join the group but are still interested in hearing about what we discuss and decide, regular updates will be posted here. 	As of 12:15 a.m. EST or 9:15 p.m. board time, these are the users who have agreed to this conference: For the EU Side: 1. Leto II 2. TheSecondQuest 3. Jedi Merkurian 4. Jedi_Master_Ousley 5. MeBeJedi 6. TBA For the Movie side: 1. MeBeJedi (he somehow plays both sides and can be instrumental in understanding both sides of the debate) 2. Vw Jedi 3. DarthTerrious 4. Obi-Ewan 5. TBA 6. TBA As one can see, we are keeping the sides even, so if you believe in the EU, and all spots are currently filled, then please don't request to join and take a spot from the movie side. This goes the same for anyone who believes in the movies first and wishes to take a spot from the EU side. Kickoff time has not been determined, but gameday is approaching fast, or so we want to believe. I speak myself and I believe Mara, when I say that we hope to see you at the meeting. 	I'm once again in my Halloween costume. We're not interested in defining EU and canon. The aim of this group is to figure out how to make purists and completists find more peaceful and productive ways to deal with one another in this forum. 	No, they would represent the ones who believe that Boba Fett survived ROTJ, but perished on Sernpidal. They believe that Stormies are not all clones based on EU evidence, that Han and Leia are married, the Emperor returned, and so on down the list. Meanwhile the movie fans, nicknamed "purists" (who started that name is beyond me), believe that what one sees in the movies is the only thing SW. Many will agree with the EU if it fits along with what they think happens, though they tend to diverge with Fett and the Emperor from the EU. In the end it typically comes down to this: User X: That's not true, Fett died on Sernpidal not in ROTJ. User Y: Well he dies in ROTJ, so Fett could not have died on Sernpidal. User X: It was an assumed death, which the EU makes him survive. The EU is above your speculation, as it is an offical LFL product. User Y: I think not! I believe this. . . That's where the conversation usually ends up in a flame war and the next five hundred posts are all one big circle. Please, make no comments to the examples (in specific Fett and Sernpidal, we all know the truth with that one. ). I do realize that the examples I posted do not represent the vast majority of people, but they generally represent the far "left" and the far "right" on the debate and it does get the messege across. -----signature----- BSG Costume Group. 	I will elaborate a bit on what Errant_Venture has said. The war between the completists and purists has raged on for many years. There are those of us (the completists) who believe that the Expanded Universe is, in fact, part of the Star Wars timeline, "canon," if you will. The "purists" feel that the EU should not be considered part of the same story line as the films because George Lucas himself does not write the stories for the Expanded Universe. The term "completist" comes from the idea that the the EU "completes" the Star Wars continuity, and therefore is, in fact, a part of that universe. The term "purists" comes from the idea that the movies are "purely" the Star Wars universe, while the EU is not a part of it. Because of these endless debates, the "EU Squadron" was formed by Ganner, a group to defend the EU against these "attacks" by the "purists." Back in the day, things were much worse than they were now, though that is not to say that the wars are mild now. The group was later changed to the "Expanded Universe Defen(c/s)e Force" (depending on where you are from) as we did not want to be supporting attacks on purists, but wanted to defend the Expanded Universe. Thus, here we are now, wishing to settle the bashing. But the debates still continue, no matter our efforts (or the efforts of the purists, to be fair.) Achieving peace, at this point in time, seems nearly impossible, though if this group can come up with a solution, I think that both sides would benefit immensely. As long as the goal of both sides of the arguement (both completists and purists) is to achieve peace, then a resolution might be found. I will certainly be thinking of ways that such peace could be attained, and getting ready an opening statement for the discussion. On that note, may I inquire what the status is on the date of the opening of focus group discussion? 	I contacted a "purist" that I've had some hostilities with about joining, and he seems interested (he said he PMed you about it).
