Solojones, let the record show that I blame you for this.
The Gods of Irony have sent this plague upon us to curse you for your arrogance! Let us all blame Solojones! If we sacrifice her as a scapegoat the plague might be lifted!

My quick opinion - Star Wars should never be remade, it's classic. PT as well.

I definitely agree with you, Lord_Hengill, on the idea that neither should be remade, though that still depends on the definition of a remake. I'd still be all for a re-imagining, but I'd be more open to it if it were done as a novel, as mentioned before.

Let us go forth quickly and begin this sacrifice to end our suffering, but it must be very quickly. We've only got four minutes to save the world from this barbaric plague.
I'll give a cookie to anyone who gets my completely intentional pun.

Ben Hur is a remake. So is Wizard of Oz. And Scarface. And Battlestar Galactica.
Just throwing it out there.

Ah, but the remakes of the Wizard of Oz and Battlestar Galactica are re-imaginings. Tin Man is definitely not based on the musical and is somewhat relatable to the original L. Frank Baum novel, but it completely re-imagines it into a really weird fantasy world. From what I understand of the new Battlestar, it's simply based on the original failed show but is a lot different in terms of the political themes it deals with.
Just throwing that out there.

I don't think there is such a thing as a remake that literally redoes everything exactly, except Pyscho, but then thats an experimental film for that very reason. When a film is remade its an assumption that characters, themes, style and construction will be modified.

Things change, yes, but there's still a difference between that and a re-imagining. For example, Chris Nolan didn't remake Tim Burton's Batman and just change a few things around. He completely re-imagined the entire series. The same thing goes for Halloween and Casino Royale.

I'd say those are characteristic of typical remakes. Tim Burton made the term "re-imagining" en vogue when he redid Planet of the Apes, but its really no different from any other remake. Scarface is nothing like the film from the 30's, and neither is Ben Hur anything like the 1920's version. The Thing is pretty different from The Thing From Another World, and The Fly is basically only the same premise as the original. Thats what remakes are like. They always are very different. The only example I can think of other than the Pyscho experiment is Jackson's King Kong, but thats because he did the film in tribute more than anything else (heck, he even completed the deleted scene from the original film). Everything from Dawn of the Dead to Godzilla to franchise reboots like Superman and Batman are typical of remakes. The whole "re-imagining" term was just a marketing ploy invented before the super-wave of remakes that have recently emerged because people forgot that nothing ever gets literally remade.

I dont think making a remake would be wise the actors we know and loved created the souls of these characters it would be very weird. instead of a remake i rather just see them fix every shot that should be cg ya i think i just might stop liking star wars if they did a remake in my view it would be a huge sell out but the idea was koo just some movies should be left alone.
