A little perspective:

Guess what?

Alec Guiness is old.

Star Wars is old.

Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher are all old.

I am old.

I wish you kids would stay away from Star Wars and leave it alone. It was never meant for your generation.

It was made in our day, for our generation, to be enjoyed by us.

It's like peanut brittle. Kids today don't want peanut brittle. They want SKITTLES! Well, guess what? There's nothing wrong with peanut brittle. It's a classic...like Star Wars.

*eats a piece of peanut brittle*

Now stay off my lawn!

I have told you once and will tell you again to cut it out, Brennan. I know that you hate the prequels. I know that you hate the 'special editions' of the classic trilogy. That in itself is fine, but this isn't the thread in which to discuss those matters. You are obviously very intelligent and therefore should know better. Stop with the smug, patronizing comments, please. Such TROLL-ish behavior is unbecoming and unnecessary, not to mention unwelcome. You are deliberately attempting to feign a stance for the purpose of inciting malevolence. I have read enough of your posts elsewhere to know of how you truly feel. Now, stop it.

As it concerns the actual topic of this thread, those who haven't seen it yet should check out Charles Crichton's great film "The Lavendar Hill Mob"(1951), which I made reference to earlier in this thread, before it became derailed. Charles Crichton was also the director of one of the funniest of contemporary comedies, "A Fish Called Wanda". "Lavendar Hill" contains not only one of Alec Guinness' best performances, but also the most amusing cinematic use of "Old MacDonald Had a Farm" that I have ever seen (not that I have seen it used often, mind you). Since Anchor Bay recently released a DVD boxed set of some of these old Ealing Studios comedies (featuring Alec Guinness) it should be easy enough to find.

The only logical explanation for Anakin's ghost to be in ROTJ is that Jedi's return in their youthful form.

I suspect you really don't care, but what the hell... I've got a few minutes to spare.

It's not the "only explanation" and in fact, when you think carefully about it, the young Anakin being present at the end of ROTJ makes much more sense than the older. Yoda states that "luminous beings are we, not this crude matter" which implies that the spirit form can take any form it wants. Probably what's most natural is the form that the person sees himself. If Anakin truly (as Obi-Wan stated) ceased to exist and became Vader, then the good spirit that was Anakin would still see itself as its younger form even if it was brought back briefly before dying. It wouldn't really know itself as Vader, as the older form. Its spirit would retain the youthful image. (What's with all these assumptions that a spirit form has to have some concrete image?)

That makes plenty of sense to me, but as I said, you're probably trying to cause trouble and likely don't care anyway. I hope I'm wrong in assuming that about you, but your posts come off that way. Maybe this will prove interesting to someone else however.

Inkswamp:

I agree with you that Sebastian Shaw should be dropped like a hot potato. Just as the more youthful Anakin should appear, so too should the youthful Obi Wan.

If you were Obi Wan, how would YOU come back: old, lonely, and weak....or young, powerful, and virile?

It's a non-issue.

REPLACE ALEC GUINESS WITH EWAN MCGREGOR, TRUE STAR WARS FANS DEMAND IT!!!

While we're at it, can we PLEASE change those crappy stop-motion chess pieces on the Millenium Falcon in "Star Wars: Episode IV: A New Hope" with some CGI?!?!? God those things look awful.

I know of someone who needs to be dropped like a hot potato, but it isn't Alec Guinness.....

I never thought of it that way inkswamp, but now that you mention it, it makes sense that the Jedi will appear as ghosts the way they see themselves.

By the way... what is Guiness' role in the original Ladykillers?

Weak???

Did you miss the first half of the film? Check out the parts where Obi-Wan gets the group effortlessly past imperial guards, scares off several sandpeople, slices off a troublemaker's arm, negotiates a tough deal with Han Solo (not exactly an easy guy to deal with), shows that he can live in a desert wasteland without being harmed, ventures into the depths of the enemy's fortress alone, and unflinchingly engages in a duel to the death with Vader, and comes back from death by virtue of his own will... all while displaying flawless and impeccable wisdom that goes well beyond even the most experienced of SW characters.

That's weak? I only wish I was so weak!

To this day, I see pictures of Guinness and associate it with unfathomable power and wisdom. His image is not an image of weakness, not in real life and not at the end of ROTJ.

Did you and I see two different films or what?

Do you realize that Guiness can be argued as one of the top five actors EVER? Replacing Shaw is one thing, and probably not best thing, but this is a can of worms that should NEVER be opened.

the way i see it is, that guiness was an incrediable actor and should, never be replaced. Due to the impact he made on the film, os one of the reasons for the sucess of star wars. Replacing shaw is also something that is wrong in my opinion. SHaw captured the essense of anakin and in my persepctive that is what i envisoned. Many may disargee and for that i cannot agrue, i just dont see way many people are discontent with shaw playing anakin.

VADERISM IS TRUTH, I think you misunderstood my post.

I was making a non-serious response to the non-serious post above mine (DBrennan3333). Please forgive my silliness.

I am actually a big fan of Sir Alec Guiness and if I really disliked the new generation of SW fans I wouldn't bother coming here.

Sure, younger fans and older fans sometimes disagree...

...but so do younger fans with younger fans and older fans with older fans.

BTW, I really did like 'The Man in the White Suit'. As a little kid I watched it with my grandmother.
