They need to redo the sound mix in ANH not to drowned out the music cue as the xwings dive down to the Death Star.

There is a lot of blue screen spots and highlights still visible during the Battle For Yavin which should be removed. I'd also be happy if they'd restore the colors of Imperial's explosions and exchange the green glare the crash of Darth's TIE and the one on the right makes with a more fire like color.
Other than that bring all the Lightsabers to the same sound quality and have the dialogue and music get more focus as the sound effects are the loudest of the three on the DVDs.

Wow...so much to do.
Although I've seen the cut scenes with "The Droids" and "The Station" in ANH and "The Sandstorm" after the sailbarge sequence in ROTJ - there's one that I've never seen.....
-Does footage exist of Vader killing 2 Crimson Guards to gain access to Palpatine in ROTJ??-
I've heard or read somewhere that it was even on a shooting schedule during principal photography, but I'm not sure if they ever filmed it.
After lying to Paplatine about knowing that Luke was his son - this would have nicely played up the tension between Vader and Palpatine that never gets explored.
As far as the eventual High Def DVD releases - I hope that he doesn't change a damn thing. He does need to fix and continue to tweak some things - but no more "Jedi Rocks" or "New Ewok Victory song" or even "making Solo shoot first again". The changes that had to be made after the Special Editions were already fixed for the existing DVDs.
The BIGGEST problem that I had with the SEs (yes, even more than Greedo shooting first) was Luke screaming and whining like a baby when he falls in Bepsin. He removed the scream from the DVD. Awesome!!
What needs to be done is all about fixing stuff that they supposedly fixed for the SEs...
-You can still see the ground below the snowspeeders in a scene or two.
-lightsabers, lightsabers, lightsabers!!!
-the matte lines around the TIEs (DAMN how bad they look when the Falcon escapes the Death Star in ANH...)
-Even the battle at the end of ROTJ has some spotty moments.
I swear to whatever deity you choose to subscribe to that GLs head is going to roll if I can see matte lines around TIE Fighters on the HD release....

The picture quality needs to be enhanced for ROTJ. ANH was good, ESB was perfect and then after the Tatooine part of ROTJ the majority of the movie took a step backwards. It still had it moments (space battle above Endor, DS2, Leia & Han on Endor after the DS bloew up) but overall the picture quality looked old.

RE: DVD changes for 2007 HD release
Just found this thread and I am glad to read that most people want GL to leave the films alone or restore some of the scenes he has messed with!!
I do agree with that some of the space scenes need to be touched up.
For ANH, just put back the scene, where Han shoots Greedo first. Then leave it alone!!!
For ESB, get Ian McDiarmid to redo his scene again, after all the fuss that was made about getting to do the scene, what a waste of time. Get Ian to wake up and start to act, like we all know he can.
For ROTJ, forget about the Ewoks, CGI is not that good, just live with the fact that the Ewoks are in the film. The things I would add are, an aged Hayden so he looks like an older Anakin. Also put Kashyyyk in at the end scene, when it goes around the Empire.

I like the changes, however some were still not up to par.
Jabba in ANH:
A big improvement, but still too CGish. His eyes are the main problem. Still work needed there.
Palpatine in ESB:
A great scene. Although there is little movement in the Emperor's actions, that just adds to his creepiness.
Like everyone else I find it hard to believe that they didn't change the lightsabers, etc. That definetly needs to be done for future releases. The explosions need to be CG now, as those old stock footage explosions don't work after watching the PT. We never actually see the ships breaking apart like they do in the PT, there's just an explosion covering up the model. I'd also love to see a scene of Palpatine in ANH dissolving the Senate or visiting the Death Star, and Yoda deserves a scene in there too. Jabba's skiff guards also need to be revamped. I wanna see limbs flying!

I guess I'm alright with some changes, but this will be like the third time he's done this, therefore im not going to buy the HD OT AND PT Trilogys. I *just* got my OT boxset a month ago,I cant afford to throw out another $60 [Well probably a good $100 for the HD OT and PT] For a set of movies when I have the OT on dvd and AOTC and TPM on VHS.
The only thing good that could outcome of more changes would be faster more intese lightsaber fights in the OT. Luke looks like he's swinging a baseball bat in ROTJ...Now look at Anakin and Obi and Mace in the PT... like...come on!
Im tired of Lucas with his bluescreen effect though,It makes everything look unreal and cheesy. So I certainly dont want the OT to have anymore of that added.

Here's some of the things I would like to see added to the original trilogy:
-add more x-wings and y-wings to ANH. Do you honestly think that only 20 or 30 ships could destroy the Death Star?
-replace the Ewoks with Wookiees. There is no point to having Ewoks.
-replace Endor with Kashyyk.
-have the stormtroopers color coded to their rank. Red, green, blue, yellow, etc.
-have GL call Peter Jackson and have him extend the Star Wars movies by an average of an hour.

Ian and Temuera both need to redo their lines. They were great in the other movies but they were terrible on the OT DVDs!!!

Okay, we don't need any more authorial debates to abound (at least people have stopped arguing that Marquand counts as a director; now on to Kerschner!). Besides, when it's all put together, "Star Wars" is over TWELVE HOURS LONG, already.
Now, a question: Does anyone remember a moment from ROTJ in which a Rebel ship crashes into DS II's shield when Lando realizes that it isn't safe to attack? This is something I remember from a tape I had from HBO when I was young, but it's something that, to my memory, wasn't even present in the THX videotapes of the film. I believe the reason might have had something to do with the audience being confused-- after all, you can't actually
see
the shield react in the same way PT shields do to the explosion. I'd like to see this moment put back into the film, if possible, now that we would be able to see the shield.

Hmm...I dont recall hearing about a scene like that & I know I haven't seen it. But it may have been a cut.
From what I heard there was a bunch of stuff cut from ROTJ.

Since many people have discussed removing the Emperors "slugs" I thought this might be relevant.
I've watched the ROTJ dvd on my crappy TV a few times now and the the slugs were always there in all their glory but on my new TV I just bought they are gone!
Now I wanna watch ANH and see if those matte boxes are gone as well. Hmmmm....

No, I don't ever recall seeing that scene but that's not surprising. You might have read it in a novel or seen a storyboard of it. Something that I've noticed over the years is the pheonomena of creative, free-thinkers (like ourselves) having the capacity of imagination to create vivid images that revolve around what we know.
I was at a StarCon once and George Takei was speaking. Some guy in the crowd was convinced that he had seen footage of Sulu (in Chinatown SF circa 1984) meeting his future grandfather as a child in The Voyage Home. Takei himself said that they were going to insert a scene of that - but swears that it was never filmed (because the chinese childs' parents couldn't speak english and they were unable to convey to them what they wanted to do with their son or that he could be in a Star Trek movie), just that it was in a filming schedule or a screenplay. Even after Takei told him that the scene was never filmed the guy still insisted that he'd seen it.
Sorry to be so long winded and to compare your experience with that of a Star Trek fan ('specially the last one), but these things happen. (p.s. - High hopes for the HGTTG movie, what I've seen looks good!)
I would like to know if a scene of Vader killing two Crimson Guards to get to Palpatine from ROTJ exists...
DARTHFINGERZ - PLEASE let me know what you think of ANH when the Falcon escapes the DS on the better TV. With how pronounced the mattes are around the TIEs I can't imagine that a little higher level of resolution would clean those up...Really though, no slugs at all?

Not to be contrarian, but I haven't read any of the SW novelizations, and I've never seen a storyboard that includes anything like what I've described.
