The opening crawl does tell us about the stolen plans. The dialogue in the scenes on Alderaan could be about something else though. There could be an added scene of a crew member on board the Tantive IV sending a holo message to Bail about the ship being hijacked. Then switch to Bail on Alderaan seeing the person shot down and then a stormtrooper stepping in front of the holoprojector. The scene would be similar to the scene in AOTC when Obi-Wan's hologram is being viewed by Palp and co. and the Destroyer starts shooting at him.It would be a nice parallel to that scene. To me it would make the scene more tense.
Seeing Palpatine dissolve the Senate would be cool also. Maybe we could even see a cameo of a disgusted Mon Mothma in that scene.
Another thought of mine was maybe inserting flying vehicles similar to the Attack Gunships in the Hoth battle. They could take out a few CG rebel snowspeeders. The empire should have some sort of modern gunship.

It might hurt the pacing, those scenes were removed for a reason. Though, I welcome them as extras.
So are these HD DVDs for sure?
Nope, I'd say regular DVD is a fairer bet.

CGI? Heh. Special Editions? Heh. A Jedi craves not these things.

The_General_Grievous, Lucas would never consider a whole new space battle. It makes the film too long. Besides, Attack of the Clones didn't have a huge space battle.
Second film of Trilogy = No Big Space Battle

I just watched ANH on a HDTV and it looked horribly fake. Everything was overfluently. Especially in the Mos Eisley entering scene. The scene features great CGI (especially with the DVD restoring) but it looked really bad on this HDTV. It seemed sped up. And that thing was priced at 11.000 Euro.

RE: DVD changes for 2007 HD release
It would be awesome if right before Aldrean was blown to pieces, when the Death Star lasar pointed down at the planet, it zoomed down to the planet and people turned at looked at the green light. Then Bail Organa turns and the light reflects against one of his eye's and then fear comes over his face.
Then when it accually explodes it pisses me off that it seems like all the matter on the planet basically disappears. So it would be cool if crap just shot out in every direction and small pieces smack against the Death Star window.
Also in either ESB or ROTJ (I forget) the part that pisses me off is when Vadar does the worst flip I've every seen. He looks so freakin stiff. It would be awesome if that could replace him for that move with CGI and have him curl up, land on one knee, and with his head down he snaps his neck back and stares at Luke. It would just make Vadar look so much cooler.

I assume you mean "jazzed" up. Not likely they will turn ANH into a porn film.

The only reason Vadar is how you put stiff in the OT is because they could not make flexible. He is thought of as stiff because in his duels he is stiff. Therefore change the duels, change the perception. The only way to make good duels is to have a flexible Vadar.

RE: DVD changes for 2007 HD release
These are the changes I would like to the original trilogy from the 6 movie Saga Box set in HDDVD in 2007, I’ll soon put up what I want from Episodes I & 2 later.
Star Wars: IV: A New Hope
1. All the computer graphics, such as the Death Star Plans, and the X-Wing cockpit computer as much more, are updated. White boxes around ships are gone.
2. All light sabers are fixed and look perfect. No more green or white sabers, Luke’s saber is a bright shining blue. And the Yellow FX when Vader’s saber, clashes with Obi-Wan’s are gone.
3. Vader’s helmet now has a glossy shine to it.
4. The Imperial march has been added.
5. The Millennium Falcon now does more spins and eye catching maneuvers.
6. When the C-3PO and R2D2 are picked up my the Jawas there are Trade Federation droids Federation droids in the background.
7. When Owen is buying the droids he now says “I oust to own a protocol droid, but I have no use for one now.
8. There is now a scene in Obi-Wan’s home where Obi-Wan is communicating with Qui-Gon Jinn, he discusses the matter of Luke Skywalker, Qui-Gon tells Obi-Wan that the Empire is looking for the two droids and that Luke is in some serious danger. Obi-Wan talks to Qui-Gon about when he should take Luke to see Bail and Yoda, and start his training as a Jedi. We do not see Obi-Wan’s face during this scene, so that when Obi-Wan reveals himself after saving Luke it is the first time we see him in 20 years.
9. There is now a new scene where the Emperor addresses the senate. He states that the more star systems are joining the rebellion, and that the senate is becoming more sympathetic with the rebellion. He states that there are those among us that are traitors to the Empire. He declare the end of the Senate and has it dissolved, and due to the power of the new Death Star they have constructed, anyone who is in alliance with the rebellion will be eliminated, Bail and Mon Mothma argue with the Emperor, but the Emperor quickly tells him, if they would not like to see Alderan be it’s first test subject, then they better show loyalty to the Empire. Later in this seen Bail has a brief discussion with Mon Mothma about him going back to Alderan and discussing to the leaders of Alderan about how the Rebellion plans to attack the Death Star and she comforts him about soon they will find Liea and the plans, and tells him not worry she would never tell them anything and that Vader would not kill her, she is to important, although Mothma does not know Leia is Vader’s daughter, Bail keeps this secret to himself and as he walks away he says to himself, if Vader only knew who she really was. End of scene
10. When Luke and Ob-Wan go into the bar in Mos Eisley’s space port, to find a Pilot, the various aliens are now CG and show more movement. The scene’s overall feel has changed, the bar now more busy and it feels more dangerous.
11. Before Alderan is destroyed we actually get to see Alderan. Bail is in the middle of a meeting when someone, interrupts the meeting and states that the death star is moving into range. He quickly leaves the meeting and tells one of him men that they need to send a transmission to the Empire, that they have done nothing wrong. They scene than cuts to the death star as Leia is being questioned by Tarkin, about the Rebel base. Then the scene cuts back as Bail and other leaders of Alderan head outside and look at the sky, right before we see the Death Star Shoots the laser, we see Bail Says may the force be with us. Then the laser shoots and the Explosion.
12. The Obi-Wan and Vader duel gets a complete overhaul, It is now way more fast paced in spots, but still has dramatic tension during the dialog. Vader attempts to force choke Obi-Wan during the duel, but Obi-Wan counters with a force push, Vader stumbles but flips back up, and the duel continues. There sabers clash and they are face to face, this duel is an ultimate rematch. The duel is about 2 min longer and when Vader slashes down Ob-Wan, it now looks more realistic.
13. There is a new scene after Luke and the gang escape from the Death Star, on Dagobah. Where we see Yoda, and he is in the rain. He feels the passing of Obi-Wan, and Qui-Gon appears, he tells Yoda that Obi-Wan confronted Vader and that he has now become one with the force. He tells Yoda that Luke will not be alone, that the force is letting Obi-Wan communicate with young Skywalker and that in time he will guide Luke to be trained by him. Yoda states, a said day this is, as Bail, and Ob-Wan have both passes, but Hope we still have, the will of the Force this is, and that soon Balance will be met.
14. The Climatic Space Battle, has been changed, there are a ton more ships, and all the noticeable model figures have been replaced with better FX shots, the overall battle is about 3 min longer and even more climatic. We now see overall long shots of the whole battle taking place, around the death star, with explosions happening, at several places on the Death Star and more and more Ties, there are even some older versions of the X-Wings participating.(we see the clones pilot from Episode III).
15. After the Death star is destroyed we see the Vader’s Ship fly to Corrosant. Vader goes to the very same place we see Dooku meet up with the Emperor in Episode II. We see him talk to the Emperor how the Rebellion has destroyed the Death Star, how Tarkin and the other were overconfident in the Death Star, he ask the Emperor for his forgiveness. The emperor tells Vader that this mistake must never happen again, and that they must not allow the rebellion to gain momentum from this Victory, they will now retaliate with great Force from this. The Emperor asks Vader lastly about the pilot, who destroyed the death Star, and who he was, Vader tells the Emperor he does not know, but he will find the identity of this person soon. The Emperor says” Yes Lord Vader, track him down you must, for the Force must have been strong with him to have accomplished this feat.” Vader replies “Yes my master.” You can tell see the tension between the two as if Vader is trying to hide him from the Emperor, and the Emperor feels Vader is not telling him everything.
16. Chewi now gets a Medal.
17.The movie is now about 149 minutes long.
Star Wars: V: The Empire Strikes Back
1. The Ton Tons are now completely CG and look great.
2. The computers, cockpits of the ships and displays are updated. White boxes around ships are gone.
3. The light sabers have been fixed and look perfect, no more pink Vader Saber.
4. The Battle of the Hoth has changed greatly, first off. The Walkers look so much better now and the snow speeders are CG and there are much more of them. The Empire now has and air attack, there are now ties fighting, A-Wings, and X-Wings, as the snow speeders fight the walkers. There is also a ground war, between the rebel foot soldiers and snow troopers, you see more and more troopers being deployed by shuttles and landing, some of them exploding form the rebels gun turrets before they have a chance to get out. They ground battle is similar to the one in Episode II on Geonosis. The battle is a whopping 8 min longer.
5. There is a extra scene where we see Yoda meditating, we here Qui-Gon’s voice. Qui-Gon tells Yoda, Obi-Wan has sent Luke to you Yoda, Yoda relies,” yes, sense him I do. Test him I must, he must have Patience, ready he must be to become a Jedi. Hide my true self to him I will.
For, follow his Fathers footsteps, he must not!
6. Yoda is now CGI and looks better than ever.
7. Yoda does not go nuts on R2D2, hitting him with his stick, and all, he simply just argues with the droid until Luke convinces R2 to let him have it.
8. Some of the dialog has been altered, very little, between Obi-Wan, Yoda, and Luke, given the impression that Obi-Wan was not trained by Yoda but by another Jedi who died long ago.
9. The shot where Vader deflects the laser blast, and pulls the blaster to him, has been changed, and looks better.
10. A storm trooper brings the mangled C30 to Vader and asks him what shall he do with the droid, Vader stares looks at the droid, he remembers him, they trooper than states “Sir should we dispose of him” Vader replies, NO, no, send him to the wookie’s cell to have him repaired. The trooper replies, Okay sir.
11. The Vader and Luke duel has a few extra shots mixed in. A few shots of have Luke doing a back flips and deflecting attacks from behind him Vader lundges at him more a has some extra moves up his sleeves. The duel is not that much longer, just some extra shots mixed in.
12. The whole sequence when Luke falls, has been redone, it looks way more realistic.
13. The movie is 135 minutes long
Star Wars: VI: Return of the Jedi
1. The Light sabers are fixed again, no more Pink Vader saber and the shot when Luke’s and Vader’s sabers clash in front of the Emperor is fixed.
2. Again the boxes around the ships are gone, the computer graphics, displays and such are again updated.
3. The Pig looking guards in Jabba’s palace are now CG and look better, there mouths move more realistic.
4. Jabba is a combination of CGI and puppet he now matches the Episode I and IV Jabba perfectly.
5. Jabba’s alien pet is CG also.
6. When Han is Defrosted from the carbonite freezing, this shot has been reworked, making it look cleaner, are more realistically done through CGI.
7. Yoda has extended dialog in his death scene, he tells Luke that the Emperor is extremely powerful and that he faced him once and failed. But that the power of the force is on your side and no Sith can defeat the force itself. He tells him not to worry about his death for he will become one with the force.
8. The Ewoks are now CG and have more movement with there features. There are also a lot more of them fighting in battle, more of them dieing.
9. The Space battle of Endor has been extended, and is much more epic and climatic, it now competes with the Episode III space battle. Much more ships, so much going on, and on top of that you have the feel that this is the rebellions last stand, there last shred of hope is in this battle, it’s win, or lose the rebellion forever.
10. The Emperor shots that were grainy have been redone, and the black worm on his hood also fixed. New dialog of the emperor is added as he reads Luke’s thoughts. The Emperor “So master Yoda was alive all this time, you have trained from him have you not.” Luke does not answer. Emperor says “ Funny, I thought I eliminated him long ago, never the less boy, it will not mater, soon you will be turned and the weak Jedi will be no more, you are the last of there kind, and will soon become a Sith. When Vader reads Luke mind, he says, Yoda, and Obi-wan were wise to keep her from me, now there failure is complete.
11. The final duel between father and son has some added shots, similar to how shots were added to episode V. no more cheesy Vader back flips, this has been fixed.
12. When Luke takes off Vader’s mask, he is replaced by an aged, pale, and scared Hayden. There is some extra dialog he tells Luke that you are a true Jedi master on he had always dreamed to be, and Yoda and Obi-wan trained you very well. He tells Luke to pass on what he has learned to his sister and that he is sorry for all of his pain and suffering he has caused.
13. Kakksakk is added, to the planet montage.
14. The shot of Anakin’s sprit has been re shot he, looks happier and great full that Obi-Wan and Yoda have brought him into the afterlife. Qui-Gon appears and puts a hand on Anakin’s shoulder, Anakin gives him a brief look. Yoda now puts his hand on Yoda’s shoulder at the same time as Obi-wan’s. Then Anakin looks onto his soon so proudly, all the Jedi do. You get a feel that there job is complete.
15. The movie in now 146 minutes

Wow, another crappy list of fanboy changes - On the last page of posts someone already posted an extremely long list of absolutely unneeded changes, you probably should have read those posts first. Oh well, here we go...
All that needs to be done is cleaning up the matte lines and lightsabers - Abos-tivoly-possi-fU@kin-lutely NOTHING else!!!
TELL YOU WHAT YOU SHOULD DO - Buy a fast computer and some video editing software and MAKE THESE CHANGES YOURSELF, if you want them all that badly, then we'll watch MY Star Wars (whatever GL releases) next to YOUR Star Wars (with CG Ewoks and a bunch pointless crap) and see which one comes out better.
Why do the movies need to be changed that much at all?? Other than minor flaws (like matte lines) they were perfect in the first place!!! But hey, what the hell, let's make our own movies. They won't be Star Wars, they'll be poorly paced, overbearing, CGI-clusterfU@ks and they'll be in your face - to the extreme!! - pointing out and drawing out everything for you, leaving no place for personal interpretation.
When GL went back to make the SEs he was just tweaking little things, here and there, not re-writing every other scene!! The things like the lightsabers and matte lines I understand but damn, your changes suck.
There is NO NEED WHATSOEVER for Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon scene. Obi-Wan is taking it upon himself to train Luke, to make up for his problems with Anakin. Why does he need some old Force-ghost telling him what to do?
There is NO NEED WHATSOEVER for us to see Palpatine dissolving the Senate, that takes all steam and meaning out of Tarkin saying that in the scene when he's introduced.
There is NO NEED WHATSOEVER to enhance any of the space battles or holographics, past cleaning up the matte lines. What should have been done was in the SEs.
There is NO NEED WHATSOEVER for Vader and Obi-Wan to have a different lightsaber fight. Oh please, can we use technology for something we don't need to use it for!!! That was sarcastic.
There is NO NEED WHATSOEVER for CG Ewoks. Or, maybe, while he's at it he can replace Chewbacca with CG as well so we don't see the holes in his mouth or Peter Mayhews' human eyes. That was sarcastic, too.
And if you think that CG Yoda looks better than Frank Oz puppet Yoda in Empire then you're smoking some hardcore chemicals that are affecting your brain.
Oh, yeah - "7. Yoda does not go nuts on R2D2, hitting him with his stick, and all, he simply just argues with the droid until Luke convinces R2 to let him have it."
Why, oh why, would you want to change one of the BEST scenes in the entire trilogy. Huh? Gimme one GOOD reason. You can't.
The only thing that's going to be added (if anything) is a shot of Bail Organa blowing up on Alderaan.
More ships!! More CG Yoda!! More Senate!! CG Ewoks!! More!! More!! More!! (sheesh...)
Oh, and p.s. - The Prequel Trilogy doesn't need any changes. At all!! Deal with it...
