RE: DVD changes for 2007 HD release
I guess this is when I say everyone's suffering from delusions of grandeur. JK, really...
It's not that I think any of you are crazy, I just don't have a "fanboy wish list", or if I do it's limited to cleaning up effects shots (that were supposedly going to be fixed in the SEs and they did a crappy job). That doesn't sound very fanboy to me, just completist.
I just can't see how "more of this" or "CGI that" is going to IMPROVE any of the movies - storywise or visually. Make BIGGER and more IN YOUR FACE - that's possible, but at the cost of the films soul. Nothing additional would really make them BETTER AT ALL. My fear is that once too much is changed it'll look more like an MTV video (Jedi Rocks, anyone?), and not like Star Wars.
If anything, in order to maintain the intergrity of what's already dedicated to film, I hope the only thing that he might change is adding the quick reaction shot of Bail on Alderaan. There have been rumors for years that imply Jimmy Smits might have filmed something like this, and if anything I was hoping it would be on these exisiting DVDs. Oh well...
Tarkin: "We will deal with your Rebel friends soon enough"
Leia: "Noooo"
Death Star: "Buzz, click, whirrr" and starts to spit out the beams past the firing control posts in the Laser Crystal Chamber, merging into the Superlaser.
THEN a quick cut - we see Bail Organa sitting, feels rumbling like an earthquake, everything takes on a green hue, he turns his head towards the sky and shouts "(something)!!!" - or better yet, doesn't even have a chance to take in a full breath before...
Cut back to Death Star POV, and the explosion. Entire shot is only about 5 seconds long.
Quick, unobtrusive, clean. Shows Leia's daddy gettin' smoked. But I still don't think it NEEDS to happen. It's "my only hope" that something this quick and no longer will be inserted.

RE: DVD changes for 2007 HD release
Ha ha ha.. what you say makes me smile. There is no Original untouched Star Wars anymore. If GL wants to add a bunch of useless things to the movies it's going to happen. If he wants to add a bunch of great changes that'll improve the story, it's gonna happen. If he wants to edit the movies, change the story, which is exactly what he's in the process of doing, it's gonna happen.
And there is nothing you or I or any fanboy with wishlists as you put it can do about it.
Long live Jambi..

RE: DVD changes for 2007 HD release
I understand what you are saying but for the sake of the saga, the saga, not the OT by itself but the whole story, improvments must be made to make the movies flow. I mean I used to think the OT was supposed to be before the PT because of the differences in technology and eye candy. If Lucas wants us to watch the movies in order he has to make the OT better looking. They need better lightsaber battles, to go from awesome ones to decent one makes the decent ones look crappy. The ships and planets look so old. He also must fill the plot holes so there is no longer a PT and OT but just a Star wars Saga. Thats why everyone wants changes.
But I also want lucas to release the unedited OT as a serarate entity, as if the PT never existed. With them not called episode IV, V, and VI but just Star Wars, ESP, and ROTJ with the original posters as covers. This way every Star Wars fan is happy.

If we ever get the O-OT, I say include them on a bonus disc as supplementals. That's all. Include them, but don't give them any real recognition.

"The first Trilogy will not be as much of an action adventure kind of thing. Maybe we'll make it have some humor, but right now it's much more humorless than this one...a little more Machiavellian - it's all plotting - more of a mystery."

Something that I picked up awhile ago (not sure where) was that GL said that Eps 1 and 2 were intentionally very bright, opulent, and shiny (Naboo comes to mind) in order to contrast the bleak, flat, gray look of the OT. And how the affect that the Empire (and Emperor) had on the galaxy has to do with the general change in atmosphere between the trilogies.
In Ep3 I'm expecting more Death Star-ish walls and corridors, and more of his "used technology" look to start looking more like OT - and even simple things like giving Anakin that Luke-in-the-70s hairstyle. How these visual cues fit into place is one of my most anticipated revelations that's gonna come out of Ep3.
EDIT: We can always hope and pray that the unmolested versions will be official someday, but I'm never letting go of my Definitive Collection laserdiscs.

Yeah I look at it the same way. I'm looking at it for the long run. 5, 10, 20 years from now when we watch these movies in order 1 - 6, it SHOULD not seem like 2 sets of movies with minor continuity issues and glaring effects differences.
For example, NOT showing atleast a cameo or reaction shot of Bail and the planet Alderaan in ANH will seem odd coming AFTER Ep.3.
Another example is NOT touching up FX such as bad looking or different colored sabres that could easily be fixed.
It should look, feel, and sound like 1 cohesive 6 part Saga DESPITE being created out of order and years apart.

Just for fun I photoshopped some quick pics related to the stuff we've been discussing....
Here's a new Jabba (created from a ROTJ Jabba pic) placed into ANH over the DVD version. (which actually isn't that bad imo though).....

Here's a pic I used of Hayden Christenson put over Shaw in the death scene...I am not for this neccesarily, but I was curious about what it MIGHT look like if GL actually did it.....

In a way the PT takes away from the OT and the OT takes away from the PT in different aspects. I just hope Lucas is able to make the OT have the same VISUAL feel as the PT. This way future generations wont know the difference because if left as is I have a hunch Star Wars wont live on as long as it can and I think Lucas has that same feeling.

RE: DVD changes for 2007 HD release
all I have to say is this, there are two kind of people. AND this is simple...
1. People who do not wan't to change to Original Trilogy in any way.
2. People who welcome the changes and want them, in order the connect the two stories better.
Although I think there needs to be a DVD set of the original Classic Star Wars trilogy, I don't freak out when Lucas changes HIS (the Keyword HIS) movies. and if you don't like these fanboy lists and you can't stand the thought of looking at new list after list, then don't bother looking in the DVD changes for 2007 Topic because guess what is gonna be talked about here?
My mother always told me if you can't handle the heat, STAY out of the Kitchen. It's that simple if a Fanboy Change Lists bother you that much, then don't bother looking in this thread, because thats the what your gonna find. You don't have to go bashing other people's opinion, respect them but you can agree to disagree. Lets treat each other with respect here people, I mean deep down inside we are all the same, we all Like to talk about Star Wars, so can't we all just get along.

Wow, muse of taken you a long time to figure that one out. And, I cannot believe that you are using your mother as a flaming defense. That is really, REALLY pathetic. From now one, I shall call you mama's-boy.
And no, we can't just get along. It's not in our nature to respect each other
By the way, get a new signature.

No! That is not pathetic! TheJediMasterMan is using common sense and I suggest you do too. There is no point in coming here if you can't stand changes to the films. All it does is add to a conflict that doesn't need to be there.
We should all get along.
And please, don't make snide remarks about other people's signatures. It's disrespectful and rude.
Star Wars is six, two and one

The most crucial thing to add, I think, is music for some of the silent scenes in ANH. The sequence where the Falcon arrives at Yavin is the one that stands out the most.
Other than that, I don't really feel that anything
needs
to be done, but I wouldn't mind it one bit if stuff like lightsabers, computer screens and some of the action scenes were upgraded.
Six episodes, two trilogies, one saga
