"Don't talk about Episode III, damnit!"
Those observations are in no way, shape, or form spoilers and are relevent to the discussion at hand. If you haven't seen a pic of Hayden yet I'm not quite sure what you're doing talking about Star Wars anywhere around these boards. Maybe we can find you a nice Ghostbusters site...=)
I am definitlely not of the opinion that the movies should seem seamless between trilogies. Why should they be? Just for the sake of GL being able to now?
nyjet10 - Basically what you're suggesting is that OT needs to be re-created from the ground up, using (maybe) the actors and replacing as much of the effects, models, and matte paintings as possible with digital technology. This might sound extreme but that's what you're talking about doing. The 70s/80s were a very different time in OUR galaxy and the look and feel of the films reflect that. And there's nothing wrong with that.
One example - The scene when Luke is strafing the DS and gets "cooked" ("Pull up!! Pull up!!") would have to be tossed. The model of the Death Star doesn't look like anything in the PTs, so I guess they'd have to replace the model with CG, as well as using all digital explosions to cover up any of existing TIEs exploding. Where is it going to stop?
Hey Mama's Boy - Next time you enter the kitchen at least try to make your posts readable and figure out how to spell the Wookiee homeworld, otherwise it'll be too hot for you to handle everytime.

I believe most of the explosions that we see in the PT are pyrotechnics, not CG.

I just want the two trilogies to flow and if that means replacing the bad effects with new effects so be it. Though I have already said I want them to release an unedited verison of the OT as a seperate entity. This way we can all just lie to future generations and tell them that the OT was remade (HAHAHAHAHAAAAA!!!!). It wont be better or worst just different.

The explosions are digitally captured so they can be manipulated and placed wherever needed, like during the Gungan/droid battle in Ep1.
As for replacing BAD effects, there aren't any bad effects. What looks bad? Sure, there are still some matting issues, but what's inside the matte boxes is just fine and can be fixed without re-working the entire shot.
One of my favorite explosions is when Solo shoots down the last TIE after escaping the DS. That isn't an SE shot and it looks every bit as good now as it did in '77.
The PT and OT do flow well, and will do so even better after Ep3.
I guess what GL really needs to do is release a re-constuctable version of the movies - with pre-rendered backgrounds and 3D character models. That way everyone can make the movies the way they want them. Of course, it still probably wouldn't let you make Han shoot first.

I find it humorous that because these movies were released in a certain way 20 years ago...and those VERSIONS of the films were the only versions available for some time....GL, the creator himself of the films, somewhere or somehow forfeited his right to edit HIS own films how he sees fit. Despite the fact that the OT Trilogy is and has been available on VHS for years and is available on LaserDisc and on bootleg DVD's.
GL himself has gone as far as to say he does not consider the OT a true vision of his work.
I'm not saying purists should forget their love and respect for the OT - but I do think they should be realistic and admit their sour feelings stem mostly from the fact that they can't watch their beloved untouched OT on DVD - with an official Lucas Film Stamp of Approval.
So they spend their time bashing fanmade wish-lists in a "DVD/HD CHANGES" thread of all places and insulting or being sarcastic toward fans who simply dig the changes.
Maybe us "non pursists" or "fanboys" or "noobs" should visit purist type "release the OT on DVD" threads and randomly attack everyone in there and discuss how great the SSE DVD's are?
LoL...nah that would make no sense really though.
Hey I think it'd be cool if the OT had come along WITH the new DVD's as a bonus....but they didn't. Why people feel the need to take out their frustrations on their fellow fans over GL and HIS desire to NOT put the OT on DVD is beyond me though.

Aight so you hate "fanboy wishlists". Thats okay I can understand that.
But does that makes it cool to come into a thread littered specifically with Fanboy wishlists and people TRYING to discuss potential changes and type stuff like....
"From now one, I shall call you mama's-boy."
&
"By the way, get a new signature."
...c'mon man you know that's just gonna throw us all off topic and only lead to flame wars.
I like this thread, I'm into discussing changes BUT its annoying to have to keep on seeing people bash our lists and having to defend yourself.

RE: DVD changes for 2007 HD release
I have to agree with everyone who's said to change Boba's voice back. First of all, he's been hanging out with out-rim scum, and picking up their speach. Little kids who come to america from other countries tend to lose their accents if they're not exposed to it constantly at home, and sometimes even if they are. It would make since for Jango too. And besides that, Boba sounds all girly in the DVD release.
I want the scene with Biggs and Luke at Tosche station back. That would add so much weight to Biggs dying at the death star.
I don't know about all this talk of the Emperor's orders to destroy Endor, but if it's true, put it back in. That's cool.
And why the hell was it necessary to get rid of Shaw? He was vader, let him stay Vader. Obi-Wan and Yoda didn't get any younger... why should Anikin go back to the way he was? That was a bad call on Lucas's part IMO.
I'm not a O-OT purist or anything, and I think the first special edition was great save for one thing: Why in the hell does Han shoot first? It was SO much better in the original trilogy when Greedo just gets pasted.
Eh, just me two cents.
Lataz.

Yeah Fett I'm adding that to my list too. It sounds pretty interesting.
I've seen the Luks & Biggs scene on T Bones site. I dunno - I'm not really feeling it. I like how Luke is introduced in AnH now as it is.
If the Biggs scene is added it will mess with the pacing and detract from the "Droids POV" idea that GL wanted to get across.
As a bonus all those deleted scenes would rock though...or perhaps if we had the option to play the movie with those scenes as "An extended cut"

Does any of you think there will even be a 2007 release? I mean Lucas is goin to want some R&R after ROTS and I think its goin to need more than a year to be finish. Not that it needs that much work but he should be methotical in his changes and make the movies the best they can be. and I no, its the 30th but I would rather Lucas wait a few years and make it final. 50 bucks is a lot to pay for the same movie every 5 years.

Personally, I'm not trying to kill anything but to interject why I believe - my opinion - that the nature of any changes shouldn't reconstruct the movies...I just have an attitude. Especially when people HERE, of all places, can't take the time to properly spell Kashyyyk or rancor.
It's funny to me when someone posts "change this" or "do that" without some valid explanation of what it would improve in the movie. The first thought through my mind is "Why?". What repercussions are this change going to make and how it will affect the overall nature of the film/s?
Example: A scene of Palpatine dissolving the Senate.
Why not do it: Because Tarkin expositioning that info is a major part of his first on-sceen appearance in the OT (plus Peter Cushing sounds REALLY COOL saying that), and actually showing that happen would take all the thunder out of Tarkin saying it.
Another: Palpatine in Ep4 at all.
How to do it properly in the context of the films if at all: He would have to be a hologram.
Why: He is The Phantom Menace, after all. This would also coicide with the new Emperor scene in ESB. He couldn't have a large part without unbalancing how briefly his ESB appearence is. If The Phantom Menace remains a phantom throughout the OT until he shows up in ROTJ then it carries the title of the first movie in the PT all the way through to the end of the OT.
Wow - I just convinced myself how cool it MIGHT BE to have something like this happen. Quickly - not a long scene with a bunch of lines - and after Tarkin speaks of the Senate. Maybe something like that COULD work, but I'd just as soon keep him out of the movie.
Oh yeah, and I think that some of them might be kinda cool - but scenes are deleted for a reason. One deleted scene shows Luke looking through his electrobinoculars while standing next to a moisture vaporator and a droid. The droid kicks it (Uncle Owen saying "Not like the last time" or "the last one" or something like that stems from this scene) and Luke then runs off to Toche Station, then next scene - which isn't all that good, either.

I agree with you that some stuff should stay deleted or be shown only as a seperate bonus EXTENDED cut or something.
As far as Palpatine being in Anh, I stated way back in the beginning of this post on my list......
"4.Do NOT show Palpatine dissolving the Senate. I used to be for this idea but now I think it would be
distracting and redundant since Tarkin mentions it."
So I agree.......No Senate dissolving scene.
But I did mention.....
"5.ADD Vader speaking to Palpatine at the end BEFORE the ceremony though. The award ceremony should remain the last scene in the film. They (Vader & Palpatine) can speak upon the events that have occured."
If The Emperor were to appear to Vader only in hologram form then I'd be more then happy with that....In fact, maybe it would be better and more appropriate for "TPM" to appear only as such for AnH.
ImO either Palpatine or Yoda (Palpatine preferably) should be in AnH somewhere, somehow.....their current complete on-screen absence is odd considering their presence and importance overall in the 6 part Saga.

RE: DVD changes for 2007 HD release
I dont think Vader should speak with the emperor at the end of ANH, but i would like to see a scene with Vader maybe landing his tie fighter in another star destroy and as he's getting out of his ship an officer comes up to him
Officer "Lord Vader our sources were able to identify the pilots who destroyed the death star"
Vader "Very well, who are they"
Officer "The correlian (sp?) ship was flown by a pilot named han solo, and the X wing that destroyed the Death Star was assigned to a pilot named Skywalker....Luke Skywalker"
Vader looks out a window looking at the stars
Vader "Skywalker?"
Now if anyone watches just the OT this still wont spoil that vader is lukes father but they would just think vader is shocked to hear the name of a man 'he betrayed and murdered'.
Anyways the lines wouldn't have to be like that, but i would just ike to see a scene where vader finds out for the first time he has a son.
After all finding out he has a son is the first step in turning back to the good side but we never do see that on screen. And if these movies are suppose to be about anakin then a scene like this would be great to see.
