Come to think of it, it's disappointing how little the Ewoks show up in the EU compared with much sillier things like midichlorians and the whole Boba/Jango/Kamino thing in LotF.

I think the biggest challenge facing SW since ANH has been reconciling the reality that it was originally made for a young audience and the fact that adults took it so seriously. Most of the criticisms levelled at the subsequent films can be boiled down to that conflict...
Except midichlorinas, which are just plain silly whether you're 4 or 104.

I have always thought it seemed funny to see them destroy the rulers of the galaxy and how undergaurded the shield bunker was. Also for such an important battle, the rebels sent very few troops.

1. They went to the back door and we don't know how far the back door was from the main facility.
2. The troops that went to Endor were commandoes. There's only so much space in an imperial shuttle, so they sent the badasses instead of lots of regulars troopers.

MHO is that it was a terrible chapter in SW history. I have tried many times to find an explanation for how this could be possible, so that i can watch Rotj without having to close my eyes. But i`ll just have to make my peace with it i guess.
The problem with the whole "Rotj is made for kids" is that the most important parts of the whole saga takes place at the same time, on the DS.(Luke, Vader, Palpatine). Those scenes appeal to everyone, age 10-80+. The contrast is so great that i just cant believe that it is the same story that i`m watching.
We can see this in the PT as well. Jar Jar is a senator, responsible for giving Palpatine emergency powers. This is even worse than the Ewoks IMO.
So even though i love the star wars universe, i can barely watch any of the movies these days.
Many parts of the story is just to.... Ridiculous

Why The Ewoks Helping to Defeat the Empire Wasn't Stupid;
Because,
(Reason #1) It wasn't stupid because it's still being talked about and people are going out and renting Return Of The Jedi, buying box sets of the trilogy and watching the movie on Spike TV so they can analyze the battle and post their opinions in here, which means more and more $$$$$$$, money, dough, bread, moolah, daneiro, and last but not least, and my favorite slang term for money;.......cabbage for Uncle George, his employees and family.
(Reason #2)Ewoks vs AT-STs and Stormtroopers is the equivalent of prehistoric human little people fighting the prehistoric, flightless birds Diatryma Gigantea and prehistoric, white Giganto Pithicus.
Now, who wouldn't pay money to see a movie about that?
In fact, I think I'll work on a synopsis for that.
I'll see if I can get Warwick Davis to be in it.

Can anyone explain to me how stormtrooper armor (which is made to withstand blasterfire) can be defeated by a *** damn rock?

I can't explain that because it shouldn't have happened. Armor that is ment to repel lasers and keep the occupant safe. The ewoks should have been slaughtered with the rebels getting picked off one at a time. But then again I'd have prefered an Imperial victory

I can. Stormtrooper armor is lightweight and designed to repel blaster fire, not concussive force. A laser bolt penetrates its target with heat-energy rather than concussive force. A rock has weight and mass, and when thrown/dropped onto a lightweight 'trooper helmet, it will transfer concussive force through those lightweight materials to the flesh-and-bone person within.

Uncle George wanted the end of the trilogy to be the good guys winning. No kid would have wanted to see the Ewoks killed and defeated. He didn't want kids to leave the theaters crying and to send him hate mail. Had he made it so the Empire won, he wouldn't have been able to make very much cabbage from merchandising Ewok stuff.
There were only three movies planned and the good guys had to win. It all fits into the overall story.
You have to see the forest for the trees.
And, yes,.. I am using that analogy because the Ewoks live in a Redwood forest.
