I have a question:
VADER: Obi-Wan has taught you well.
We all know that it was really Yoda who taught Luke most of what he knew, but Vader didn't know this, so he most likely assumed that Obi-Wan had taught Luke everything. I have watched the films so many times that I just didn't think about that line very much until just recently. I haven't seen the film, yet, but I was wondering if ROTS reveals why Palpatine and Vader didn't consider that it was a possibility that Yoda might have been the one training Luke. Did they think that Yoda was dead? Did Sidious know that Yoda escaped?

Well seeing that you want to know,
Palpatine suspects that Yoda survives, they are never able to recover the body.
It is unclear if Vader is ever informed of Yoda's disapperance. It is very possible that Vader is never told--that he suspects only Obi-Wan survives.

He doesnt know that Luke even knows of Yoda's existence. He DOES know that Luke was friends with Obi Wan though, so he assumes that Obi Wan was the one who instructed Luke (which is indeed correct, at least to a point).

For me it raised the question as to whether or not Vader knew about Obi-Wan's ability to retain his identity after death.
Vader knows he killed Obi-Wan on the Death Star...before Luke was fully trained up. So why would he say that Obi-Wan taught him well?
He even fought Luke in TESB, so he knows his skills have increased since then...yet he still mentions Obi-Wan.

^ because he is unaware of any other jedi that survived. Obi-wan is the only one, therefore it must be he that trained Luke.
He's no doubt refering to Obi teaching him the basics. He likely assumes that Luke expanded on the basics and grew in power on his own, much like he feels he did.

I don't think Vader knew what the heck Obi-Wan did when he disappeared. Vader stepped on the robe like he was going to find a little mini Obi-Wan or something.

Perhaps, then, he somehow knew Obi-Wan was not truly gone. He says how it's been a good day, because of the death of Kenobi, but I think he suspects something when he disappears.

I think they did know but they just didnt care - the only thing that could stand in their way was luke, not obi wan and not yoda.

I think Vader refers to Obi-Wan because Obi-Wan was Vaders Master AND because Obi beat the hell out of him... after all, he´s stuck in that suit due to Obi-Wans fighting abilities... so it´s clear that he referrs to obi-wan.
Of course, Vader is scared when Obi disappears in ANH..but this is again referred to the obi/qui-gon thing in EP3...
and think about the "You can´t win, Darth" line... "If you defeat me, I´ll be more powerfull than you can possibly imagine"....

I think Vader assumed that Palpatine killed Yoda, and Obi-Wan was the only survivor of the Jedi Order. Palpatine hid the truth from him, because it would make him look less powerful, and Vader might be tempted to switch sides. Palpatine never trusted Vader, that is why he wondered whether his feelings about his son were clear. He always suspsected that Vader might be tempted away from the Dark Side.

Interesting theory, that Palpatine never told Vader that Yoda escaped. Just goes to support the ongoing jealous, mistrust, plotting and deceptive ways of the Sith, how they'd totally stab each other in the back, given the chance. It can be argued Vader kept Luke's identity secret from Palpatine at the end of ANH or the beginning of TESB, especially since Vader had already been plotting to unseat the Emperor. So yeah, Vader may not have known about Yoda after all.....

I just realized, Vader says this line in ROTJ, after he defeated Luke in TESB. Which implies that either:
(a) Vader suspected Luke had been trained by Obi-Wan from birth.... but given Luke's improved skill between TESB and ROTJ,
(b) Vader suspected Luke had been trained in that period of time by SOMEONE, who most likely was Obi-Wan.
Which implies that Vader had some suspicion as to where Obi-Wan was lurking after death....

After ROTS, I got thinking about this. It seems likely that Vader figured out or sensed that Obi-Wan was not truly gone. After all, Vader did become one with the force and manage to appear as a force ghost after being defeated. Is it not possible that he was aware of Obi-Wan's continued presence and influence over Luke?
Consider in ANH, Vader witnessed Obi-Wan's disappearance. Isn't it entirely possible that he figured out what truly happened to Obi-Wan? It would also explain how Anakin managed to become one with the force.
