Obi,

We're going to agree to disagree. I don't particularly care which one is the ghost. I see the reasoning for Hayden and I see the reason for Shaw. But, you have to admit that Lucas' change makes sense, in the context of the saga as seen as a whole.

The legend and the most important times of Anakin's life were when he was a young man...not what he was when he killed Palpatine. He may have turned back to old Anakin at the end of the film but that's not the Anakin we identify with. We identify with the young man, who was a dreamer and who had the power to the most good in the galaxy.

That young man looked like Hayden.

The Force gave him his dignity back...

Wasn't the most important time of Anakin's life when he fullfilled the prophecy?

The Force didn't give hime his dignity back, Ben and Yoda helped him become a force ghost.

I called it ANH/PT continuity for a reason. The PT agrees with Star Wars but disagrees with Return of the Jedi.

Agreeing with Star Wars does not count as "screwing up".

But it doesn't agree with Star Wars. Listen to Kenobi's description of Luke's father and his talk of Owen not agreeing with the idealistic crusade. NONE of that was depicted in the PT. Since Anakin was already a knight prior to his turn, it doesn't jive with Vader being a pupil of his until he turned to evil either.

If Lucas is trying to make a distinction between Anakin before he became Vader and Anakin after he came back in ROTJ, then it's important to use Hayden's image now that the prequels are in place.

Otherwise one might come to the mistaken conclusion that the Force Ghost is supposed to be Anakin after he had turned.

What? Hayden IS Anakin AFTER he turned!!!

This is just another plot hole created by lucas.

Hayden should never have been added. anakin turned back to the good side of the force before he died. Hence the fact he should appear as a force ghost at the age of his return to the good side.


but thanks to lucas ignoring the blueprints and story outline for the prequels that was spelled out in the OT. As someone already mentioned anakin would have just been in his early 40's by return of the jedi. Thanks to lucas starting anakin off as a 9 yr old CHILD.

When I seen shaw and guinness I always thought to my self I can't wait to see these two when they are young and are friends and fighting in the clone wars together. They were both around the same age. good friends. master and student.

the anakin we were given in the prequels was one of two things. a 9 yr old kid who shouted stupid lines like "yippiee" in the naboo starfighter or "lets try soinning, that's a good trick" BAH. pathetic.

or you have the teen age brat who cries and whines and disrespects his master from the very first scene in attack of the clones.

I sure never seen the anakin that lucas always described in the early 80's. that great hero and noble jedi and good friend to ben kenobi who has a fall from grace. Shaw had that look and gave you that impression of anakin as a younger man. shaw was old and haggerd looking and gave the impression of an old warrior with a huge and interesting background story. Much like walking into a VFW club and listening to some old ww2 or vietnam vet with war stories.

now we get that teen age BRAT with his stupid grin.

oh well!
