Threepio thinks he's seeing the Tantive IV but has mistaken it for the Star Destroyer. It's one of those subtle moments of wit. I can only imagine R2's response is 'That's not our ship you dolt'.

It seems unlikely that Threepio would mistake a star destroyer for the Tantive IV. Even if he's not very knowledgeable about such things he would presumably know the difference. He'd also had Captain Antilles as his master for a while which means he must have been on the Tantive for some years. It seems unlikely that in all that time he'd never seen what the ship looked like from the outside. And even if he hadn't, surely just by looking at the star destroyer in ANH he'd be able to determine that it was much bigger than the Tantive. He knew that the Tantive had been captured by the SD, pulled inside and then boarded by stormtroopers. So when he looked out of the escape pod and saw a ship, he must have known it was the SD with the Tantive IV in its landing bay. Thus, I propose that he was in fact merely commenting that the attack was not as bad as he had thought while it was taking place.

In ANH did r2 make that other droid unit explode? so he could be with luke?just wondering..

There are various versions of the story:

According to the National Public Radio Dramatization of Star Wars, R2-D2 sabotaged R5-D4's motivator to ensure that it would break down. Galaxy Guide 1: A New Hope, a roleplaying game supplement, states that R5-D4 blew his own motivator so that Artoo and Threepio would not be separated. In Star Wars Tales, R5-D4 is actually a great forgotten Jedi named Skippy.

You decide.

Why does Owen dress like a Jedi?

By the same token, why does Obi-Wan dress like a moisture farmer?

At the end of ROTS Obi-Wan seemingly had nothing but the clothes he stood up in. So he must have acquired his ANH outfit later which means it’s not strictly Jedi attire. The point of Jedi robes is that they’re supposed to emulate the simple clothing worn on many worlds, including Tatooine. This is so the Jedi can blend in easier and show that they’re there for the common folk and that they do not believe in possession - so they don’t want to look as if they’re lording it up with fancy outfits.

That only came about with the PT though. Obi-Wan’s outfit in ANH was just designed to look like the sort of thing a person would wear on such a planet, which is why Owen’s outfit looks similar. Then obviously Yoda too wore simple clothes because he too was an exile with a simple life.

For TPM though there were more elaborate costumes designed for the Jedi. In the end though Lucas decided to go with the ‘classic’ Jedi look and had the Jedi dress similarly to what Obi-Wan wears in ANH to show off their ethos of simplicity and to maintain the visual continuity with the OT.

I guess it's just the same as any threat. They can still get you during the day. We see the Tuskens in ANH during the day when they attack Luke. I'm guessing it's just so they can see them before they attack. Remember the scene when there first looking for the sand people and Luke puts on the microbinoculars, he has trouble seeing where they are then, imagine how much worse it would be at night.

I wanna know the name of the actor that played Commander Igar in ROTJ! He's the Imperial officer that brings Luke to Vader on Endor.

Except such a postulation makes the line irrelevant, it becomes a pointless statement instead of a mark of a sheltered and simple droid. Remember, it's followed by "Are you sure this thing is safe?" It also doesn't make much sense. What was C3P0 expecting to see? The Tantive IV was disabled, not destroyed or broken in two - and at the point he says the line, it's well out of sight in the bay of the SD. At the time the movie was made, C3P0's 20-year tenure on the Tantive IV wasn't decided yet, so he could mistake a corvette for an SD.

It doesn't make it irrelevant. When the battle was taking place Threepio was intensely worried. He believed that the ship was going to be "destroyed for sure". When he sees the outside though he sees that it was not as bad as it had seemed at the time.

He also knew that the Tantive had been captured. So when he looks out of the escape pod, why does he not wonder where the enemy ship has gone?

I mean irrelevant to the character and the plot, it's dramatically pointless for C3P0 to make a comment that Leia's ship wasn't really that damaged. It undermines the power of that first scene and the desparation felt by the rebels. He knew it had only been disabled, his line is (approximately) "one more shot like that and we'll be destroyed for sure".

C3P0 is nervous and melodramatic about everything. It makes no sense for a character to admit that in fact they were wrong and needn't have been so anxious and then have this same character continue to make the same mistake.

I guess it's only a line, but I'm amazed at how one of the best jokes in the film has gone over some people's heads.

Where'd Luke's binders go once the Emperor removed them? I know they fell on the floor, but after that you don't see them anywhere, not even during shots of the whole room.
