why does Palpy say he's unarmed when he has a hidden saber in his sleeve. He proably does at least.

Technically, we don't know if he still has his lightsaber hidden any longer. In Dark Lord he mentions that the Sith, in the present, only use lightsabers to humiliate the Jedi. So, it wouldn't suprise me at all if he had discarded his lightsaber all together. ROTJ Palpatine though, to me, gives off the impression that he is above wielding a lightsaber. Though there's always the possibility.

Frank. Frank Palpatine.
Proof: "I must be Frank, your highness..."
tongue

he doesn't have one, canonically. He had a couple different names in earlier drafts and such, but he pretty much only has Palpatine and Sidious as names.

I was thinking about the anh battle and this question arose. At the point that the imperial officer tells Tarkin that they had analyzed the attack plans of the rebels and there was a real danger to the station and Tarkin dismisses his idea to evacuate, why doesn't Tarkin order all TIE fighters to launch? It's one thing to not want to evacuate, but there was no reason why he couldn't launch all the fighters to quickly annhilate the rebels just to be on the safe side. He hadn't launched them earlier because he believed the rebels to be no threat to the station, so vader launched his own personal fighters instead. Once Tarkin knew of the danger he should have launched the fighters.

His over confidence and greed to be the destroyer of the Rebels took over I would assume.

Tarkin was overconfident. He didn't think the fighters would be any real threat to the Death Star.

I was recently playing a game of the young players edition of Trivial Pursuit with my husband when this question came up: "What had the Emperor been known as before his galactic takeover, in the movie Return of the Jedi?" The answer, of course, is Senator Palpatine. This is a 1984 edition of the game, purchased more than 20 years ago. Where in Return of the Jedi do they make mention of the Emperor's previous identity?

The original Star Wars novel, published in 1976, gave the reader a prologue about the events leading up to A New Hope. In reference to Palpatine, it says, "...the ambitious Senator Palpatine caused himself to be elected President of the Republic....Once secure in his office he declared himself Emperor, shutting himself away from the populace". However, it presents Palpatine as just a politician, weak and controlled by more powerful men instead of the Sith Lord we see in Return of the Jedi.

Also, he is called Palpatine in the ROTJ novelization, IIRC.

If I recall correctly, "IIRC" stands for "Isolder's Imperial Roof Contractors".
