That sounds fair to me. Then everyone gets their way. We're already halfway there since the O-OT is released on dvd now. All that's missing is a better quality version.
I'm not exactly a purist myself so perhaps I shouldn't speak for them, but Lucas' changes shouldn't be a problem if the O-OT is released with the same treatments as the altered edditions.

Here's something to think about (I think I was talking to Butt about this, but I could be wrong): for those that don't want to see changes at all, would you be more open to them if you were given the O-OT on DVD in Blue Ray? That way you'd have a very crystal clear version of the originals, and since they'd be out there for all to see would that make you open to the idea of Lucas just going insane on changes if he wanted to?
Yes.

A perfect world: a house in the Hamptons with two solaria and a horse named Prickely Pete, Dr. van Nostrand as my primary care physician, the O-OT legally available on DVD in a quality worthy of its greatness and Luke the undisputed hero of Star Wars

Yes
Yes, Yes
and yes again.
I would want the OOT to get a hi-def transfer regardless of whatever further changes Lucas has in mind for the SE.

I think, IMHO, whenever the movies are released again there's no reason the OOT shouldn't be done as well. The originals on Blu-Ray/DVD in a remastered set with bonuses (like deleted scenes and whatnot) and the new versions in a Saga boxset. The six-pack would have all bells and whistles, probably include the new Clone Wars movie, plus anything else.
That way if you want one or the other bada-bing, you got it. Moreover, you don't have to pay for BOTH versions if you just want one or the other (2006 releases anyone?). Heck, they might just release each individual movie on Blu-Ray and go all out for each instead of a set. Everything remains to be seen.

I paid for both. The official word was that there would be no DVD release of the theatrical versions, so I went ahead and bought the New Special Edition right away. I'm sure LucasFilm won't pull that trick again...
I wouldn't mind seeing a few interesting changes as long as a) they don't interrupt the flow of the movies, and b) they actually look like they belong in the movie. The added Jabba scene of the SE irritated me because the FX looked bad. The Greedo scene looked bad and didn't enhance the story in any way. I guess what I'd like to see most is some restored deleted scenes. The stuff about Wormy and his space battle, the Big deleted wampa sequence from empire. Maybe they could take another crack at the big musical number in Jabba's palace -- do something not as over the top as in the SE's but not as subdued as the theatrical version. Overall, if there's some way they could refine and polish all six movies to all flow together perfectly, I would not object. But I'd still want my theatrical versions too.
