	Am I the only one who has trouble with the notion that Luke was able to jump into the garbage chute, compose himself, fire his weapon all in the time between when he jumped down and Han followed?

	They most likely had already tried blasting it and probably almost shot eachother so they knew that it had to be sealed magnetically.

	Leia probably knew because she had been kept captive on the Death Star for a little while now,or maybe her,chewie or Luke had already fired their blaster by then. Doesn't Luke say ''Its no use,we already tried that. Its magnetically sealed.'' or something to those lines? 	I think the real question here is,: Should George Lucas add a scene in ANH explaining how Luke knew it was magnitically sealed using CGI? -----signature----- Sir Alec Guinness of why he did Star Wars: "I thought the dialogue was pretty terrible and the charactors fairly meaningless-but there was story value. 	That scene bothers me too. Cuz luke jumps about 5 sec before han. And as you can tell by han. It took him alittle over 5 seconds to land. stand up and fire. then it took the blaster like antoher 5 seconds to stop bouncing off the walls. So WHEN did luke have time to do all that. But ignoring that. It bothers me how pissed luke gets at han. OBVIOUSLY han is gonna try to shoot the door. So if luke tried already why didn't he tell Han not to try. 	maybe Han had a little 15 extra seconds side adventure in the chute that's explained in some obscure Marvel comics I would try to explain it by saying movies are rarely in real time, but sadly it doesn't leave much out between Luke jumping and Han. But still, I don't think you can count the seconds and expect everything to be that precise. or maybe Leia told him to try to shoot the door as soon as he landed. 	Perhaps it went like this - Luke landed a little closer to the door, got up and walked over to the door and tried the handle (or switch) whatever to open it and got a "Magnetically Sealed" message or something. Or possibly he moved towards the door and saw a visual display or something indicating the door was sealed, which would take less time than for him to go all the way to the door and actually touch it. Immediately after he saw the message (or whateveer), Han lands, gripes a bit, then starts blasting away. Han did not make any effort to take a good look at the door before firing, he just stood up, aimed, and shot. If I remember correctly, there are 10 seconds or so after Han lands where the camera does not spend much time on Luke, and Luke is standing fairly close to the door when he says "No, Wait!" right before Han fires. So, while the timing is still pretty short, I believe that Luke would have had time to check the door before Han fired. After all, all Luke says is that he already tried it. He doesn't say how he tried it.

	I think the drop into the trash compactor wasn't straight down from the cell block as it may appear (otherwise Stormtroopers could just drop explosives down there or something), and a little more time elapsed than we see. 	Some comments on the posts: Yes, it was totally unfair for both Luke and Leia to yell at Han since there was really no way of knowing in the four to seven seconds (perhaps someone should time it) that Luke already learned it was magnetically sealed. Someone came up with another thought, that Luke tested the door through means other than firing upon it. Perhaps he actually did have his light saber that his father gave him and tried using it to cut the door open. I was actually amazed that they could all fall 10-20 feet into a pile of junk and nobody was hurt.

	If Luke had tried a control button on the door he would have had to land, walk over to the door, try it, relize it's magnetically sealed, then move far away from the door because Han landed between the door and Luke. Luke must have shot at it right from where he landed and dodged a few ricochets. The Han lands between the two.
