Should my "Things we Learned" thread be added under "Humor"?

So what's the point of directing all the quick questions to the "random question" thread? It's not as if this forum is so busy that it can't stand to have a few extra active threads about random things. If anything, I think it stifles discussion to direct everything to the official thread because newcomers to a forum are more likely to read/post in shorter threads than they are to try wading through a thread with hundreds (thousands?) of posts. I suspect the forum would benefit from a looser stance on that.

Besides, without quick/random questions, the only stuff left to discuss is "HAI GUYS I'VE BEEN THINKING ABOOT TEH CAVE SCENE..." wink

have you looked at what questions we redirect there? They truly fit the definition of "random" and often they have one answer and nothing really to discuss.

I've always been one to give threads a chance, but sometimes it's just clear that there isn't much to discuss.

Yeah. If it's something that at least 70-80% of us already know the answer to, and they're not posing it in a form that would generate some sort of discussion, we'll go ahead and redirect. If we left it open, someone would post the perfect answer fairly quickly and there wouldn't be much to discuss after that - which is exactly what happens in the Quick/Random questions thread. If they're new and don't want to wade through that whole thread, they can ask again, if it's been asked before. We don't mind.

It's also a good catch-all for the random stuff like "Do you think if Obi-Wan shaved his beard he would have had a better chance at beating Vader?" - you know, those types of really 'out there' questions.

I'm not sure all of them do fit that definition, though. And why would I have brought it up if I hadn't looked at at least some of the questions? wink

The thread about where did Luke sleep on Dagobah, for example... I know as a fact we've had threads on that very question in the past and it generated some decent responses. I think some of those more speculative-type questions can be interesting sometimes. And if not, well, sometimes they turn into amusing humor threads. tongue All random questions are created equal, but some are more equal than others. wink

The bottom line, I guess, is it seems to me this forum has been quiet enough it might not hurt to do a little experiment and leave a few sort of "fluffy" threads open and just see what happens with them, if people post decent responses to them or not.

Edit: And clearly, Obi-Wan shaving would have helped him against Vader because in Star Wars, facial hair = old and Obi-Wan was clearly suffering from a problem of over-oldness before his time in ANH. SO THERE!!!11!2 tongue

I'll leave this thread open for the sake of argument. What else is there to discuss in that thread?

Edit: See? They're talking about poop! laugh Point proven. tongue

Oh, come on! Don't threads like that make you nostalgic for the old days of this forum when half the threads were far-out humor topics? Next item on the agenda - turn the official Leia's bikini scene thread into a sticky! laugh

And thank you, bacon. love
